@@tommyf6576 Given his analyses of older stuff like Rush and Deep Purple, there's a distinct possibility he may love Yob. Aeons is one of those tracks that sounds like it came out of a completely different era than 2003.
Yah! Bravo! More! How about Borderlines? I really love how Gold and Gray breaks from the color wheel album naming scheme a little. Both album art and music are more subtle, like an audio sepia tone that is also reflected in the album cover. Geebz if you read this, know that John Baisley is multi-talented and also does the cover art not just for his own band, but many other bands as well.
The Purple album of theirs is my favorite album of all time. Baroness has made so many bad days tolerable. the album was written after they had a terrible bus crash in europe. some members had to quit, and the lead guy, John, broke his upper arm in half. weeks in a hospital and months of rehab, brought us this deep, personal album. a classic.
I love this band. That said, one of my favourite songs of theirs is still their first ever song ‘Rays On Pinion’. Solid build up to everything that follows...........
I fell in love with the song Isak the first time I heard it... After that I checked out Red album. Mind was blown 🤯... He could really pick most of the songs off of Red album and react.
You listen this song/band with your soul. This band rules on so many levels every member puts himself to it and you can feel it. This song helps me to release so much tension while listening it is unbelievable. Works like therapy.
yep hes gotta hear some red, blue, and yellow and green too. then discover the machine that is Gina Gleason! Baroness is amazing and I'm glad I exist in the time that they do!
This song was the first song to be released from this record, which was the first record since having a horrific accident here in England Just a few miles from where I live- their tour bus went front first into river off a bridge at a downhill crossroads... the rhythm section left the band left after this. Singer/guitarist/songwriter John dyer baizley couldn’t play guitar for a long time, his arm atrophied, he had to re learn- this song is one of the songs about his recovery
These guys are great. Lot of cool material. You should do a "why this song melts your face" for Opeth - Blackwater Park. Guaranteed to melt a face on first listen. So heavy and epic!🤘
Hey Dude! When I saw you had done a Baroness video, I got happy and excited like a dog whose master just arrived home from a long day of work. Got goosebumps and a small tear of joy in my eye when watching. Also figured out why I really like your videos. Watching them is like the feeling you get when you show your friend your favourite songs and they super dig it :) Thank you so much for this, and I'll just throw up the idea to make one video for every one of their "color" albums :P
Great video! John Baizley, the singer and guitarist of this band, is an AMAZING artist and painter. He has done album artwork for alot of bands and Baroness as well. You should really check out his art.
Oh man! I'm so glad you did this one! Not sure if it was me spamming it in the comments or other people but loved the breakdown and glad you found things to appreciate in the sounds and composition as well as the energy of the song. So cool to see all the Baroness love in the comments too! A fine fine band.
Hey Geebz, some context for this song if you're curious - it's a part of the "Purple" album which was released after the band got into a serious bus accident. Serious enough in fact that two people left the band, and it's also why the singer/guitarist John wears that black sleeve on his arm, it helps him with mobility. The album is already great on its own, but knowing what went into it takes it to another level. I know you're not a lyrics guy but it really shines on this song in particular, in my opinion.
The end of the verse into the lead part names me emotional every single time I hear this song. It's so perfectly timed and structured. Check out "March to the Sea" by them also. Phenomenal.
GEEBZY!!! 🤘🤘🤘 Baroness is one of my absolute favorite bands. Lots of good stuff. I don't think I've ever seen a Baroness reaction. Well done once again!
There's quite a few musical nods throughout Purple to classic rock/classic metal bands. In If I Have To Wake Up (Would You Stop The Rain?) one of the lyrics is "Aces high!" right before a Maiden riff, and another song uses some Pink Floyd phrasing before incorporating the lyric "uncomfortably numb". These guys are one of the most special groups in all of rock and metal music to me, every album offers something different and every show I've gone to has been an absolute blast. If anyone is looking for context about the lyrics to this song and some of the others they've written, read John's account of the van accident they were in while touring in the UK. Their original drummer lived and breathed the instrument but unfortunately took on life-altering injuries and couldn't continue playing. John was almost in the same situation but had successful surgeries on his arm.
BARONESS!!!! Awesome Geebz. You are 100% correct about them being very deliberate with their sound. The Singer owns a pedal company and from interviews i've seen, geeks out over his tone and different pedals. I love these guys so much, easy one of my top bands in the last 5 years or so. I'd love to see you do a deeper dive on Baroness, will also give a shout for Mastodon, as well as more Opeth and Mars Volta.
Absolutely love Baroness! Their sound changes pretty significantly from album to album. I would recommend checking out Cocanium next, not necessarily my favorite but fits my current mood.
It's great to see your analysis to Baroness. They have so many great songs. I saw them live 3 times and these concert were totally amazing. The second guitarist, Pete Adams, has left the band and it was replaced by Gina Gleason. She is an awesome guitarist. If you read this comment, please try the japanese rock band named BAND-MAID. They are one of my favorite band in the world right now. But if you're in search of a more technical japanese rock band, Sokoninaru should be right up in your alley ;)
Absolutely incredible band who put on a hell of a live show. They don't have a bad album and to boot they're really cool people, I met the front-man after a show of theirs I saw in 2019. Def recommend more of them and echoing some Mastodon as well.
Thanks Geebz!!! for checking out one of my all-time favorite bands, Baroness are true originals (J.D.B. especially, of course). If you read the lyrics afterwards, did you catch the awesome Pink Floyd reference with "un-comfortably numb"???
Baroness is one of my go-to bands when I need some musical therapy and this song is very dear to my heart and soul. As a bonus, they are from the Peach State, and I have to say they are phenomenal live. Thank you once again for doing what you do sir. My hats off to you. Although the band's line-up has changed over the years with Gina Gleason replacing Peter Adams on lead guitar and backing vocals, and Sebastian Thomson replacing Allen Blickle on drums... which both musicians have done a phenomenal job and continue to do so, John Baizley has managed to keep the creative juices and writing flowing for over 17 years now... despite a horrific bus crash in England back in 2012 that left him and the other band members with various injuries, which is likely one of the reasons Blickle decided to hang up his sticks at least from touring and playing with the band due to the effects of the injuries he sustained... as well as bassist Matt Maggioni. You can see the scars on John's left arm when he sports a short-sleeve shirt if he doesn't have on a "support" sleeve. A number of people in the 200 plus comments have already suggested other songs by this Savannah, GA quartet, but in addition to this sonic gem off 2015's 'Purple', I'd also recommend "Morning Star" and "Shock Me." For a dive into their earlier discography, I would recommend "Rays of Pinion" off 2007's 'Red' album, "A Horse Called Golgotha" from 2009's 'Blue Album'... and anything off the 'Blue' album you really cannot go wrong with along with "March to the Sea" and "Take My Bones Away" from 2012's 'Yellow & Green'. Off the same album "Chlorine & Wine" is off of, Baroness' most recent LP, 'Gold and Grey', I'd pick "Tourniquet" and "Seasons." edit: sorry for the grammar and typos... not feeling way today and cannot type on my phone, lol. Think I fixed most of them.
I’m so glad you touched on Baroness and especially this song. It’s always been a special song for me that always lifts me up and brightens my mood whenever I’m feeling out of it and just not motivated in life.
I have not been as excited to see anything on the internet as I am when I see you checking out songs I have quietly adored and wish I could gush on with someone who understands. Keep it up. This is a big slice of positivity added to my day. Thank you so much!
Hell yeah, great to see you covering Baroness; you've really been going for some great deep cuts as of late. Loving it! If you're looking for more Baroness, check out "If I Have To Wake Up (Would You Stop The Rain?) / Fugue [LIVE]". Great live recording & lovely performance :).
It’s amazing how on-point you are with your analysis with respect to their songwriting and methods. In a recent interview, many months after your analysis, the lead guitarist and vocalist John Baizley had described that he wrote lead guitar melodies rather than riffs because how much more catchy they are, and that they easier to recite and hum to yourself. You’re also right that they’re a regional band, so they have travel to get together and record when they can.
Been following for months, but just saw this Baroness reaction. They have a totally unique sound and vibe. I love their Yellow & Green album, especially Take My Bones Away, March to the Sea, and The Line Between.
Gave this a thumbs up as soon as I clicked on the video! Happy to see you enjoyed this tune by Baroness. This album (purple), and this song in particular, were some of my favorites released in 2015. Hope you have the opportunity to delve deeper into their discography, and keep it up man!
Baroness is one of my favorite bands, and I had the pleasure of watching them live twice in the Before Times. Their last two albums have been outstanding, and I'd love to see a reaction to something more recent.
Yes.. i love Baroness ! I remember the first time I heard the red album and blue record..blew my mind ! Cant believe it's been over 11 years since red album was released, the evolution of the songwriting and sound is great to see on yellow green and purple... Haven't yet really got into gold & grey. John baizley does all of the artwork and has done album art for many many bands..
I love this band so much. In fact, I saw them with 2 other bands that we're all begging you to check out - Mastodon and Between The Buried And Me. Thanks for another awesome video!
How cool that you do Baroness. This is one of a few bands that I've kept beside me through all the years and still listen to frequently. Tool, Mastodon, Baroness and Isis are really the soundtrack of my life. And I almost love their cover art just as much as their awesome music. They were a lot heavier and agressive on their earlier stuff and have developed their style massively but still remain awesome, which is rarely the case when bands go throuh huge changes in their compositions and sound. I hope you do more of them in the future.
Baroness is wonderful, I've had a blast going through the whole chromatic series and seeing the evolution of their sound, especially after the accident! This gives me hope you'll get into Mastodon soon!
So good to see you're giving Baroness a chance. Here in Arkansas, most rock stations won't play them here. If I hadn't of seen them with Mastodon, I'd never had heard of them.
Yes, more BARONESS! These guys are just great. Cut from the same cloth as MASTODON. their latest release has some beautiful compositions. Keep em comin’!
Oh yeah, for sure. 🤟🏻 Saw them live with Entombed & Breach years ago, they were mesmerising. From almost silence to planet-splitting in one set, superb. ✌🏻🤟🏻
Someone else mentioned it in the comments, but Yob is a very interesting band. My favorite tracks: Adrift in the Ocean, Aeons, Exorcism of the Host, The Great Cessation (title track)
I am absolutely loving all of your videos. I've heard almost every song you've covered, but you give me a new found appreciation for every single one of them. You have absolutely transformed how I listen to music and I can't thank you enough. I don't know where to begin as far as music recommendation goes because you have covered so many greats, but, having seen your appreciation for drummer videos, I think you would enjoy "Chris Turner - 40 Roll". He's one of the best drummers coming out of the hardcore scene and he absolutely tears it up. Mahalo!
Man the journey this band has gone through. They wrote this record right after coming out of rehab from a bad bus accident. Vocalist/guitarist almost lost his arm. This song is about that experience.
I think you'd Absolutely adore Baroness - Eula, but literally almost anything from Red, Blue, and Purple is just incredible. Hell, they're all so individually perfect.
After the release of Baroness’s Yellow and Green double album, they were touring in the UK when their bus crashed, falling of the side of a small cliff. Most of the band were injured and the bus driver was killed. John Baizley, the singer, nearly had to amputate his arm, but he wouldn’t let them so he could continue to create and play music. That’s why he wears the compression sleeve over his left elbow. He says his arm is extremely painful to this day.
Thank you for some Baroness! I second the Mastodon picks. I'd also suggest some Clutch. Noticed you described Barroness as pure rock fury and that happens to be a Clutch song name.
Yes! Baroness are wonderful, it's fun to hear you wanted to sound like John the lead singer. Usually his voice is the toughest part for people to get used to. Be sure to check out Eula, Tourniquet or If i have to wake up (would you stop the rain?)
I feel like I'm commenting on every video but you keep giving me my favorite bands, so of course I'm hooked. Baroness is interesting. John's vocals aren't for everyone, and some of their albums feel a little "samey", but there are so many intracacies in each song and I love all of them. I recommend giving something from their Red Album (maybe Isak though the Rays on Pinion intro is 🔥 too) a shot and then a song from subsequent albums to see how they've evolved.
I first heard the song, "Rays on Pinion" from Baroness over ten years ago from the Red Album. Just from the first listen from that opening track I knew these guys would create much more immersive and awesome hard rock tunes, through the rest of there years they've been making music 🎸🎶
I'm over the moon you're breaking down Baroness. None of these other jabroni channels will touch them so thanks for this! Love your channel!
Yeah they’re amazing. He should do Pallbearer too while he’s at it. Or Yob

Oh yeah, for sure. 🤟🏻 Saw them live with Entombed & Breach years ago, they were mesmerising. From almost silence to planet-splitting in one set, superb. ✌🏻🤟🏻
Should really listen to one of their older tracks like Isak off the Red Album
Love this song
Someone else mentioned it in the comments, but Yob is a very interesting band. My favorite tracks: Adrift in the Ocean, Aeons, Exorcism of the Host, The Great Cessation (title track)
I love this song so much. It is just pure emotion, start to finish. Great breakdown!
Mahalo!
Getting to see them live after their accident, and not know if they would tour again, was one of the best shows I've been to.
One of my favorite bands of all time. They've had some serious hardships over the years and it's just a joy to see and hear new music from them.
Man the journey this band has gone through. They wrote this record right after coming out of rehab from a bad bus accident. Vocalist/guitarist almost lost his arm. This song is about that experience.
Definitely feeling some Savannah, GA pride for these lads! I picked up their Blue album about 7 years ago, and it’s still among my favorites now.
I think you'd Absolutely adore Baroness - Eula, but literally almost anything from Red, Blue, and Purple is just incredible. Hell, they're all so individually perfect.
This is fantastic- I'd never listened to Baroness before. This is not what I expected- loved it!
Wishbone Ash in the dual guitar melodies.
What a song! Gives me goosebumps.
Thank you for some Baroness! I second the Mastodon picks. I'd also suggest some Clutch. Noticed you described Barroness as pure rock fury and that happens to be a Clutch song name.
Sup Geebz. Hope the surf is excellent. Can't wait for some more Meshuggah and Enslaved
Yes! Baroness are wonderful, it's fun to hear you wanted to sound like John the lead singer. Usually his voice is the toughest part for people to get used to. Be sure to check out Eula, Tourniquet or If i have to wake up (would you stop the rain?)
Yes ! Do tourniquet. The skezzix dilemma part 1 ! Or ark of suffering
@@jeremydyck1213 i meant baroness song called tourniquet lol, i dont know the band tourniquet
Seen them once live and If festivals are running this summer, I will see them second time in same festival where I saw them first time. 🤘🏻🎸🎶🎵🍻
I first heard the song, "Rays on Pinion" from Baroness over ten years ago from the Red Album. Just from the first listen from that opening track I knew these guys would create much more immersive and awesome hard rock tunes, through the rest of there years they've been making music 🎸🎶
Love this community 😍 there's other great channels out there but some how they just don't get the band selection to my tastes this often!
