Baroness is one of the best bands on earth. start at Red, then go to Blue, then yellow and Green, then Purple, then Gold and Grey. those are all albums btw. you should check out this video if you can. captures the emotion of the song. this whole album "Purple" was written after their band was in a terrible bus accident in Europe and the lead guy, John Baizley was in the hospital for weeks.
This band is from Philly. I've been fortunate to see them live four times. The most recent was this past Monday at Kung Fu Neck Tie in Philly where they wrapped up their tour with 3 home shows in a tiny ass dive bar. I was five feet from the stage. My face was melted off. This song seems to unite everyone in the crowd as if were going into battle together and John ( the lead singer) naturally leads the charge. If you want another great tune from Baroness check out "March to the Sea". You are 100% on your critique.
I was lucky enough to see Mastodon and Baroness together twice. Was immediately blown away with how polished these guys were live, and how strong Baizley's vocals are. Baizley's not just a great musician but an incredible visual artist. Big fan. Blue record is probably my favourite album, just because the guitar tones and harmonies on it are incredible I reckon you would really enjoy the band Ulver. From 90s black metal to electronic ambient stuff to pop these days, it's all there and it's all fantastic. Maybe start with something from 'shadows of the sun' or 'the assassination of julius caesar'. Excellent records
It's awesome to see new people appreciate a band you love! If you're interested, I'd recommend you listen "A Horse Called Golgotha", out of the Blue Record, it's truly a mesmerizing track!
Baroness were a relatively recent discovery for me, they are an amazing band, recommend the song Tourniquet or If I have to wake up (would you stop the rain). Also more Karnivool and COG
I love this band! This is one of my top four metal bands. I recommend "Kerosene" from their Purple album, it's a bit faster with a climactic ending. My personal favorite Baroness song! I also highly recommend to "Twinkler" from their Yellow & Green album. Calm, serene, atmospheric, meditative. "If I Have to Wake Up" also from their Purple album, is another of my personal favorites. Melancholic melodic and just straight emotional.
I've dug Baroness for a good while. They are just one of those tasty bands with interesting stories in the songs. They are a nice southern band. ;) Hope you and your family are doing well and keeping sane. Peace...
Salut Jim, big greetz from Sweden! Good to see that you get closer to The Mars Volta and Baroness! By the way...there a lot of better songs of Baroness. It would be pleasure to see what you think about the songs of the blue record
Whilst you are working, chilling whatever, put Cosmograf on spotify. Press shuffle and see if you can find a bad song. Then have a listen to IQ album Resistance and finish off with Big Big train Grimspound.
If you're liking Baroness, you should react to Pijn & Conjurer - High Spirits. It's two bands that collaborated on a short album called "Curse These Metal Hands” (Peepshow Super Hans reference *wink). It's not a split, both bands play the songs together, as far as I understand. Anyway, the song High Spirits has some definite early-Baroness inspiration going on. Check out the lyric video: ruclips.net/video/ZbPC7UgaTa0/видео.html It'd be a great reaction video to watch. Keep up the great videos/listening!
Baroness is the other big act of the Georgia prog sludge metal scene... as Mastodon is the most famous. Don’t you really know sludge metal? Have you ever hear about Melvins, Eyehategod, Crowbar, (early) Neurosis or Acid Bath, among many others?
Nope! Sorry, I just searched it and it was another British dude with a Pink Floyd shirt who I was thinking of… good job nevertheless! Do some reactions from their latest, Gold & Grey.
Wow! I did not expect you to react to Baroness! I’d suggest March To the Sea
I flippin’ love their track Rays on Pinion. The whole of that Red album really....
Hi Olly, I'll be sure to listen to that too!
Cool...but after you’ve checked out Trilok Gurtu - Cherry Town of course.....🤪👌🤞

Think Blue still remains my favourite album of all cover to cover. It really is all killer no filler. One of my favourite albums of all time.
@@aestusmaris amen!
Baroness - "Eula" is a must!
Great band and great song. Caught them live last summer.
I really like your often but still subtle editing it shows you're always paying attention and remembering great moments.

I am new here, but you seem to review most of my favorite bands. I really enjoy your reactions to great music. Also they sound just as good live :)
Jim's returned!! I've not heard their music. Happy to be diving in with your company.
Hope you're well! 💟
Jim's here, never fear! All good here thanks, and with you?
Baroness and Mastodon FTW!!! haha
Thank you for these videos. It reminded me to take my time listening to an album instead of having "background" experiences...
Thanks for listening
They are consistent in having a live and soulful sound, you’d love the rest
This song is my favorite so far
Oh baby you gotta hear 'the gnashing' as well
Hi Jim...this ones new to me also...looking forward to this.
Hope you enjoyed it!

fun fact the singer does all the artwork which is what the video was
Purple album is all sooo good!!
Check out Villagers of Ioannina City - Age of Aquarius (Greek band)
I have one of the women from the cover of the purple album tatted on my leg. It's the one with the nails in her head and the blue rats.
Nice 👌

You need to check out Spidergawd. "Ritual Supernatural" and "Green Eyes" from their latest album "V" are great jumping off points.

Apparently I've always been listening to the wrong Baroness songs. They never quite made a lasting impression on me, but this one is phenomenal.
Well, to be fair this is the only Baroness song I've heard so I can't really comment on the rest of their catalogue....
Purple is definitely their best album, although yellow and green has lots of bangers
Jim, please listen the Flying Colors - Cosmic Symphony (studio version)
I've dug Baroness for a good while. They are just one of those tasty bands with interesting stories in the songs. They are a nice southern band. ;)
Hope you and your family are doing well and keeping sane.
Peace...
All good here my friend - hope you're ok? Cheers
@@JimNewstead We're hanging in there and coping while watching the craziness go on.

"The Iron Bell" is a great track by Baroness.
Okay, I'll stop binge watching/listening now - promised. I DO have a social life 😉
More Gojira reactions please!

It’s about time you get around to Baroness. They get pigeon holed all the time as “metal”, but there far more to it, especially the later albums.
Better late than never!
yeah man and then the old fans complain they aren't metal anymore... jesus. I like what they do
react to jesu - comforter
Did you say d-jent? ;-)
Yup.... its an in-joke with a friend - sorry!
This was good, not my favorite but a good song

I could have sworn you already reacted to this over a year ago…?
Nope! Sorry, I just searched it and it was another British dude with a Pink Floyd shirt who I was thinking of… good job nevertheless! Do some reactions from their latest, Gold & Grey.
Nope, wasn’t me!
Rays On Pinion is such an incredible song. This song is not one if their better ones, i'm afraid...
Baroness died after blue album to me.
Try Aussie prog legends Cog - Anarchy OK.
