A Bharatanatyam presentation choreographed and performed by Aarthy Sundar, Vivek Ramanan, Swathi Jaisankar, Surya Ravi, Mangala Janahan and Bala Janahan on EDM Thillana, created by Mahesh Raghvan and team at the 2016 IndianRaga Fellowship. This is a composition of Thanjavur Shankar Iyer, set to ragam Ananda Bhairavi and thalam Kanda Chaapu.

After Bhangra, Bharatnatyam is my favourite Indian dance form. Bit biased toward Bhangra because I'm Punjabi.
I'm Sri Lankan and i'm a bit more biased amongst Bharathanatyam but my friends and I absolutely LOVE Bhangra!

This is a Thillaana, which isn't particularly known for its lyrics, but for its rhythm, so you'll hear a lot of repeating rhythmic syllables in the music, which aren't actual words. There tend to be a few devotional lines mixed in, though. This one was about Lord Shiva. In a traditional Bharathanatyam dance show, they place a Thillaana towards the end because it is meant to be rhythmic, with a lot of footwork, and pauses where eye/neck movements or poses are placed. Hope that helped. 😊

EDM is short for electronic dance music No worries about not knowing - it's a term that's probably only gaining momentum in Indian dance/music over the past decade 😊

Melissa D this is not a song. It's a music piece used in bharatnatyam pure dance performances, and is called thillana. U can find many thillanas searching on Google.
