  • I've had quite a few emails about putting together an updated vehicle walk around on my little Diesel Jeep. Traditional walk around videos don't do much for me because they end up being a parts list. While the parts and pieces are important, I'm trying something new with my walk around videos. I want to include some detailed information about the builds but much of my focus is about the owners. I want to show the relationship between the owner and the project. I want people to hear the stories of what it takes to put together a build like this and I want to humanize the relationship we have with our 4x4s! Doing a video about your own relationship with your Jeep is strange and feels self indulgent but I know a lot of you guys wanted to see this video get made! I want to thank my wife for interviewing me and helping out with this one. And a special thanks goes out to my buddy Jacob and my brother Matt for helping me film! Here its is guys! My Diesel TJ Wrangler walk around!

    The amazing part about a jeep is the level of customization you can get up to. He rightly said " the jeep is never done". There is always something you can do to it. He is a true jeep fan and so am I. One day my jeep will be up on RUclips for millions of people to see and the amazing discussions we all can have 🙂

    I can relate. Never selling our '99 XJ. In '07, found it on ebay, local seller, $3200 w/ 139k miles. Now - '19, 225k miles, still running like a champ. Put together a 4.5" lift with used parts from jy, craigslist, forums. Wheeled in the Everglades for years.
    Since I'm no expert fabricator, I recently installed....
    Cavfab Alpha 4 link.
    OME F/R shocks and springs.
    Ironman4x4fab shackle relocation bracket, adjustable shackles, 1 ton steering, steering brace, track bar.
    I'm determined to learn how to weld. Picked up a Hobart 210 mvp. Should be decent after going through 10# spool :) (ok, maybe more) Need to weld frame stiffeners, bumpers, sliders, axle reinforcement, replacement panels (has plenty of rusty areas)....ect.. Never ending...

      I run expired jet fuel (for helicopters) at a very remote place. Old mate has the habit of pouring some 2 stroke/mineral motor oil in them, saying jet fuel are dry and might damage pumps. I never ran them in commonrails. They work just fine in older diesel.

  • @SWBCrawler
    @SWBCrawler 4 года назад +1

    Wait.. You have a D44 front? I feel like ive been lied to or betrayed or something.. I always assumed with those 40's you had something heavier in the front! That's old school! I remember when everyone was doing that. Smaller axle in the front, bigger in the rear. Now everyone wants d60's ore bigger all around. Or so it feels. Nice rig, you're an inspiration man. I wish I still had my YJ from when I was 20! Man, the state it'd be in by now if i'd just kept it.. Ha! Well, hopefully I can say the same about this LJ in 20 years.

    • @DirtLifestyle
      @DirtLifestyle  4 года назад

      Yep the good ole dana 44! Everybody says it's not possible but this axle is a tank IF you can keep your rig light weight. This same build on a JKU wouldn't be as strong but my jeep is covered in aluminum parts and the engine is only 300 lbs. It's a good recipe for high clearance and nibble performance 👍

If you don't know it is from a UK comedy show Only Fools and Horse, Trigger is a street cleaner and says he has had his broom 20 years, but in that time it has had 5 new brush heads and 10 new handles. So, when you say you have had your Jeep for 14 years, how much of it is still the Jeep you got 14 years ago?

    Great video awsome editing. I have one issue though how do you consider an "upgrade" from a k5 those are amazing rigs one of the coolest I've ever owned actually I still own it it's an 89 k5 same year I was born had it since my paps gave it to me at 15 I'll never sell it lol. I can only image it was either trashed or you just meant upgraded to the TJ cause it will out wheel the k5 in any tight spots it's so reliable and fun to drive and is a couple thousand less pounds on any trail?

    • @DirtLifestyle
      @DirtLifestyle  4 года назад

      Thanks! I loved my K5 but only because of nostalgia. My stepdad had one when I was growing up and I thought it was soooo bad ass. When I bought one I quickly realized that vehicles from 1979 weren't that great lol. All the lights went out, then the tranny went out, then the rear driveshaft shot out of it on the freeway, eventually the transfercase went out. I started having issues with the front axle but not before I had to take apart the top end of the motor to reseal the intake. The frame cracked around the steering box like all K5 blazers and of course the carb needed a rebuild because it was old too. Even the body bolts would fall out when I would go wheeling lol. It was my third and last chevy. I grew up in a chevy family and still like Chevy but all the chevys I owned from 17-20 were a nightmare. They taught me alot about cars and trucks but it was because i was having to work on them non stop just to get myself to work! Then i bought a much more modern car. A 2002 jeep wrangler and everything stayed working. I would go wheeling in the same places as I did with the s10 blazer and k5 blazer but the jeep never broke. It never stalled in water, never lost a body bolt. The alternator never went out, the starter never went out. It was even more comfortable and felt more powerful! This Jeep was an upgrade in every measurable way. It even got twice the mpg! Lol very important at 20 years old. I still want to get a k5 blazer one day. But this time it will be a ground up build getting rid of many weaknesses found in that blazer. 4 link front and rear with a 12valve Cummins 🤘

    I have a OM617 sitting in my garage that i want to swap over in my TJ. Looked in to Coty built VW’s kit.... but $12,000 for there full kit its a bit much. Did you do the build from scratch? Or use a kit? What VW engine did you use? ALH? BEW? Id be curious to know! Awesome build tho!

    • @DirtLifestyle
      @DirtLifestyle  4 года назад +1

      I have many parts of the cotybuilt "kit". They sell you a kit and don't tell you that its missing a bunch of stuff. But yeah I have the truss member, adapter, and intercooler. My engine is a BRM. It's the best engine for swaps in my opinion. It's common rail so it has a smoother idle and is quieter than the alh. Not to mention a better flowing intake/exhaust manifolds and a stronger bottom end. 👊

    • @DirtLifestyle
      @DirtLifestyle  4 года назад +1

      Thanks man! It's a fuel system from a company called Airdog. This system separates air and fuel so if your sloshing around offroad you don't take in a bunch of air. It's a kit made for a duramax which has the same pressure requirements as my tdi (8-10 psi).
