  • This JCS inspired crime documentary will uncover the questioning of a former police officer who has been brought in on claims of domestic abuse.
This interrogation should set a good example of how important it is to invoke your rights.
As always, we'll also find a bit about the psychology behind the interrogation and what is most likely happening in the mind of the suspect.

Problem is, most people don't have the ABILITY to remain silent.
"Anything you say WILL BE USED AGAINST YOU."
NOTHING you say will be used FOR YOU.
"You have the right to have an attorney present with you during questioning."
USE IT! Even if you say you want an attorney and then you start yapping, that CAN be used as long as it wasn't in response to a question. If they start talking (and they probably will), they will try to get you to respond to their story about what happened. If you start talking without being asked a question, it is considered spontaneous speech (or something like that) and it can be used against you.
Ask for a lawyer. If they continue talking to you, become a child by putting your fingers in your ears and loudly saying "LA LA LA LA LA, I CAN'T HEAR YOU, LA LA LA LA..."
Then don't talk to anyone except your lawyer. No phone calls (they are recorded). No family (they could testify against you). Not your cell mate (they could be a plant). ONLY YOUR LAWYER!

Many videos of cops getting arrested where they act aggressive and get the full gamut of deescalation techniques… whereas a normal citizen would have been taken down and tased the second they showed even a fraction of aggressiveness the cops did.

He caught his girlfriend cheating, of course, he's going to be mad, who wouldn't be in that situation. They were arguing, and he lost his temper and hit her, The cab driver has no reason to lie to the police in his statement, he did not know the couple and therefore, had no reason to lie.
He should just hold up his hands and say, look, I caught her cheating and I lost it. He won't elaborate on some parts of his story, will only talk about what he wants to talk about. He cannot remember he says, he can remember he just does not want to dig a hole for himself. But this interview and how he is coming across, tells me he is guilty of assault.

LMFAO, they gave him chance after chance to remain silent.
When I was read the miranda rights, the officer immediately added at the end "if you decide to talk to me, you can't ask for a lawyer later on."
That's really illegal, and the station chief was in the room during the interrogation. I turned to him and asked him what I was charged with. He refused to tell me until I told him if I would talk to him or request a lawyer. I asked him again what my charges were, he refused to tell me again. I said "Welp, sounds like a need a lawyer then" and the chief was shaking her head in a 'thank god he said that'....because she could tell I knew that was wrong...and while my lawyer said at most it would get the testimony thrown out, but because I remained silent, it doesn't matter. The officer did ask me 'You're requesting a lawyer' to clarify, because "sounds like i need.." isn't a flat request. I said "Yes. How long am I going to jail for?" and then they released me.
IMO, it does matter, but I did end up walking on those charges. Controlled stop, and they let me walk because it was my car and they were after my passenger...though they did press multiple charges and threatened me with more if I didn't cooperate. I just remained silent aside from requesting a lawyer.

Every time I watch these, I can imagine each person being interrogated, sitting in their cell afterward, pacing and smacking themselves on the forehead, "why didn't I ask for an attorney?!? Why did I say anything!?!" Over and over again... 🙄

I had to pause this while I’m working to laugh at the compliment to the interrogator on his analogy at 35:19 🤭… I initially thought it was the suspect because I was listening, not watching .. but now I see that it’s the other interrogator. Lol

The screenshot i just got of the captions saying "you call her mommy but her name is superman" may be the greatest photo in my phone.

Watching your videos have helped me beat 3 domestic violence cases. Thank god I got rid of her and won’t ever have to deal with that again!
