Old jars for the screws with the lids screwed to the bottom of the wood shelves are very helpful. It will also free up more shelf space! Also, our garage gets packed with many things we don't want to look at, ugh!!
Yes. Mason Jars… perfect… put board on Wall… screw lids to board underneath.. screw glass jar in… unscrew to use… saves space off table and big shelf…… small board will hold them and easy for you to see… permanently marker in black to write size screw nails. Etc. A few More LARGE BRIGHER LIGHTS NEEDED as you may start working in there more!??? Winter. Etc. 😀😀👏👏👏. FREE HELP from Trade Schools & Universities… room an board… weekly an they explore on weekends…. BUNK BEDS 2 in NOT GARAGE!! It’s done all time. Netherlands, Italy, Germany, research it! Americans do this too. Blow up mattresses, good luck! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Just have a good agreement with rules regulations for agreement. Students will learn so much as you both an boys too… suggest 2 young men first time you do this… the physical strength needed so much now. Everyone LEARNS. Tara, that was a really fine harvest of potatoes, yay! Crusoe helping to gather them by size and counting was so precious! He's a very smart boy! Loved the clip of you guys enjoying the river, and the boys looked so thrilled to be there. John, I hope your shoulder mends well and quickly. Take it easy on it for a little bit. The "not-garage" is an invaluable space, and once you get it organized, you guys will not dread walking in there. Rome wasn't built in a day, I always say. Great video, guys! Hello your gardens and property looks so different from when you moved in you guys are doing such a great job 😊 you're not garage is such a wonderful spot! Tools and garden stuff. As soon as you get your shop organized put a bench or table at the door for drop offs. I am very organized and build a lot of but after a busy day building something I use that table to drop off whatever I have in my hands and then put it away when I have time. So I do understand the need for organization but I understand myself too and it doesn't always get put back on the wall right away😊

What I really admire about your vlogs is that you don't exploit your children for views like so many other family vloggers do. They are in your videos but you value their privacy and don't reveal personal details about their lives. I have stopped watching vlogs like that as it feels invasive. Your main focus is the work you do on your property and the children are there in the background. A perfect balance. An example is that you didn't share the time with your visiting family, that was your private time. I love your vlogs, make me feel calm and serene. Thank you.

Crusoe melts my heart. John is truly remarkable with his skills and goodness you're so green fingered. I've tried and tried growing very to no avail.
The wonderful creativity you do is often born out of chaos or messes, so take heart, you’ve made such amazing progress in such a short time, in so many areas, with much creativity & ingenuity, truly staggering! So well done, and somehow please take a little break, now and then, however short, as you mustn’t burn out. I know this is silly advice as you’re doing so much AND RAISING 2 precious little boys at the same time! Loved the potato harvest, did the same thing once upon a time, mostly got purple spuds! so satisfying. Dreaming of mashed potatoes & sausages! Crusoe is delightful, learning so much being with you, & gorgeous baby who’ll soon be into everything! Little by little, step by step, would one episode a week be enough to exist on? I am OCD and cannot function without my surroundings being organised. Though, i drive myself insane let alone the family!
However, I am extremely good at it.
In April, my sister flew me to UK to help her declutter, sort, and devise storage solutions for her as they were selling up after 25 years in the same house.
Not only did I do her house, but over the weekends sorted out my brothers garage, garden and arranged his Conservatory in the new house he had recently bought😊
My hands have itched prior re your not garage, but this episode got my heart rate pumping wishing I was there to help!
Ps I also label everything and couldn't live without my label machine!
Good luck! It's a long, slow, thankless and expensive process to do it properly.
But as we say in South Africa, slowly, slowly you catch the monkey!

I’m with Jon. When cooking something involved and difficult, the dishes and implements pile up in the sink and on the counters, but if I have lots of time and I’m cooking something not involved, I wash the dishes as I go.

You could if you wanted screw jar tops to the underneath of the shelves, fill the jars with all sorts of little bits like screws etc and turn them into the tops. This makes it very easy to see what you have as well as giving you space. Let me know what you think if you have the time of course.
My dad did that but with see-through plastic jars.

I love you showed Joel a bit in this episode. I think it’s important for his generation especially to learn these skills as they seem to be lost here in the USA . Agriculture is rarely talked about in the school systems too. It’s crucial we all get back to this type of self sustainability. Seeing him more would perhaps inspire viewers to want to learn these skills. I know I am sending my daughter and her friends to your page simply because I think you’re building a life for your children worthy of being emulated.
Just a suggestion, you can steam the baby potatoes, then sautee some finely diced onion in butter. When the onion is soft, add about 2-3 teaspoons of whole mustard seeds, and a little salt, and keep stirring over heat for about a minute. Throw the cooked baby potatoes into the onion and mustard, give it a stir, and serve. 😋

I've been waiting for the Not Garage explore, I saw a really cool wash basin on a stand that would be nice in the flower garden as a bird bath!! I totally understand how John gets into build mode, I'm sure he knows where everything is, well almost!! 🐘🦒🐘🦒💦🦏🐣
You’re making all kinds of progress! Little Crusoe makes my day, the watermelon baby, lifting potatoes, counting, eating raw beans, all of it. Your boys will be grown up in the blink of an eye so treasure these days.

If you have some dried beans you might heat them, dry, and pour them into a cloth bag and apply the bag to John's shoulder. It makes a wonderful heating pad for being "off the grid".

We have one too! It’s our shed. It is amazing how much stuff one can pack into a 10 x 10 shed.
Wow what a harvest...........💢Oh my yes we all have a shed like that its a big job but once its done you will be so proud of yourself. It will be so organised you will be able to see in an instant what you need. . Hurrah.....
John is so caring and understanding of Tara’s emotions. He understands her and was willing to forego the non-garage for the potato project where Tara’s mind was. It was a good compromise; potatoes were picked & sorted and the non-garage was sorted partially.
I got to say, again, the joy that it is to see your interactions with Cruseo. Lovely! ❤
Must admit, that each time I saw the non-garage, I wanted to be there to sort it out and organize it for you. It was difficult to find anything in there!

John, you are a creative and sometimes (often) it is hard for a creative to keep things tidy. That is just not how your mind works. I admire your efforts to bring organization to the Not Garage as it will make your lives so much easier in the long run. Smart move to bring someone in to help.
You also might find that there are people in your lives who LOVE LOVE LOVE to organize and who would truly enjoy helping you guys out. I know those people exist because I am one of them. Tackling a project like your Not Garage would bring a joyful smile to my face similar to the one Tara had on her face when she thought the focus for the day was to lift potatoes. I bet you have other people like me who would love to get stuck in and give you a hand.

Really looking forward to the recipes & cooking. In Australia in our potato growing season it went horrible as well. We had such a shortage that frozen potato products were not being made.

Just a suggestion, that leaf blower and other long items you could have them hanging on the wall so that they don't become tripping obstacles. I think it's a good call that you get help with the rest. You are doing a great job with your entire property. It's amazing!

John you are in good company. My husbands workbench/tools is ALWAYS a mess. I organize and he messes 🤷♀️. Job well done.
My late husband was so organized and since his sudden passing I have been so grateful to be able to easily find whatever I need to repair things around the house. I used to laugh inside about how much time he spent in the garage and basement mini workshop just organizing his stuff. Now I’m so glad he did.❤️ We actually waste time and money when we aren’t organized, I wish you luck LOL!

well, i sell socks, amd still manage to not have enough socks for myself and my husband, not joking actually in Portugal have 4 pairs and in Uk i have 6 pairs, and missing ones, next to the ammount of 1300 pairs for selling.. so don't worry about being a bit disorganized... our brains are a beautiful mistery guys. We all have one of those spaces that's chaotic, and the music you added as you entetered the "not garage" was so funny! It's always a good feeling cleaning up and organizing. I'm just not great at keeping it that way😂 Nice potato haul!

Crusoe you are very clever to count to 5 and telling mommy and daddy that you have lots of potato's (tato's) and I know you are going to enjoy them because you love yummy things. I am so glad John's sister came to see him (did not know he was a twin) and had time out, absolutely necessary. I do not mind if you guys chatter or build a lot on your videos, they are delightful and full of variation. In fact I just like hanging around with you guys. The potatoe harvest is looking great for your first plantation. Everybody has a " not garage" situation, in a store room area or a garden shed but it's so satisfying to spring clean and discover items you thought you lost. Crusoe's socks are one treasure you uncovered.😂🧦🥔

John's 'Can do Attitude' mind set reminds me so much of my Dad, seeing the job finished as he planned and then him thinking how to do it as he went along.
Dear friends, in every challenge, impossible, is NOT existant. Reference to your well known NOT garage becoming, the GOTO, YES, GOTO garage, you found missing things socks, screws, and others things you will need in NOT too long. Tara do NOT get rid of those baby bathtubs, they will come useful again. Was nice to know John has a twin sister and Crusoe and Sawyer will NOT miss their cousins. What NOT to enjoy Crusoe with his friend, the NOT melon, and picking up TATOES with Mommy and Daddy. Sad John hurt his shoulder, will keep him and all you in our prayers, NOT to worry he is a strong man, thank the Lord for that. You are our GOTO family on Sundays and we always enjoy seeing your NOT ordinary life in Portugal, the potatoes will have a good place in your refurbished GOTO new garage. You might check with the local farmers about using the small potatoes as seed. In the USA the small potatoes produce small potatoes genetically.

Don’t forget - your not garage was a mess when you moved there. Once you clean up the whole area - and it’s become only your own belongings - it ll he easier to keep up with even if you let it go during projects. You’ll have small nails, bolts, screws etc in individual bins. You’ll have designated areas for things. Room to move around. It will be so much easier to keep on top off. We all have places like that. Mine is a large outdoor shed. I empty it entirely once a year in late fall. Trash or give away what I no longer want or need. Sweep down lofts, walls, and wall shelves. Wash down standing shelves and anything else that needs it. Sweep floor good. Put what’s left back in a neat and orderly fashion. By mid summer I m knee deep in misplaced stuff! I now use am empty kitty litter bucket with a handle to house all my garden tools, scissors, lengths of twine, ties to tie up tomatoe plants to stakes, bug spray, anything I need to do garden work. This way I carry it all around the yard with me and put things back as I m finished and place inside shed right near the door. This is a tiny thing but has helped a lot!
I don't know if you have a wheelbarrow. But it might be easier to bring up your farm produce and isn't Crusoe strong carrying that huge tray of potatoes 😳😃🤗🌻🐈
My dears love from Pakistan. Just an idea you might like. If you rake all the potatoes in a big pile then you all can sit down and sort them instead of bending over and hurting your backs? You have such a beautiful harvest. Love all your videos.
I hate cleaning my not garage/shed, like you the spiders 🕷 creep me out, but the worst part is putting everything back. I’ve still got things sitting on my patio because I lost all enthusiasm 😊.
