Phosphorous is the component of general purpose fertilizer that produces blossoms. So in a standard all purpose fertilizer 10-10-10 indicates 10 parts Nitrogen 10 parts Phosphorous and 10 parts Potassium. My suggestion is that you need to add phosphorus as a supplement to your fertilizer regimen. Also, adding flowers in the area to attract pollinators is never a bad idea. Typical additions to the tomato patch are alyssum and marigolds. Of course any flowers you plant will add to your pollinator population, so go ahead, make the garden prettier. Wow, garden is really producing. With the large carrots I would make carrot cake. My grandmother made the best. This is close to her recipe. One note, leave the peels on, just wash them well. 2 cups flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 1 tsp cinnamon 1 1/2 cups brown sugar 3/4 cups vegetable oil 4 cups shredded carrots 4 eggs at room temperature Cream Cheese Frosting 1 cream cheese softened 1/4 cup butter softened 1/2 cup icing sugar 1 tsp lemon juice
Grease a 9”x13” glass pan. Preheat the oven to 365F. Shred carrots. In a medium sized bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Using a stand mixer or electric mixer, beat eggs for 2-3 minutes. Add brown sugar and mix until sugar is fully dissolved. Slowly pour oil into the egg and sugar mixture. Continue mixing for a few minutes until ingredients are well blended and a creamy texture forms. Add dry ingredients to the mixture and mix at a slow speed. Lastly, add shredded carrots (and any other optional ingredients such as raisins or chopped walnuts) to batter and stir with a wooden spoon just until blended. Bake at 365F for 30-40 minutes. Check that the cake is fully cooked by inserting a toothpick into the center, if the toothpick comes out clean, the cake is done. Leave the cake to cool completely before adding the cream cheese frosting. Cream Cheese Frosting Combine cream cheese, butter and icicng sugar in a mixing bowl using an electric mixer on low to medium speed. Add the lemon juice and mix again until blended and icing appears smooth and creamy. Spread the frosting using a silicone spatula on to the cooled carrot cake and enjoy!

I just love spending this time with your family!! I love your exploration, discovery and creativity, all the while wonderfully parenting your delightful boys!! John's creative woodworking is simply amazing! Experimenting with pesto can bring good rewards as I do think pesto can be made with so many greens, but I find carrot tops rather bitter. I like using garlic scapes along with whatever else is available in the garden at the time those are ready...usually a combination of sage, lemon balm, parsley works well. It's a more savory pesto with sage than when using basil, but quite enjoyable. And I quite like using walnuts since pine nuts are so pricey. Anyway, love to you all!
Hi Susan. We love spending time with you too. Thanks so much for your lovely words about our family. I have not tried walnuts in my pesto but might do that next time. Thanks so much for watching friend, see you on Sunday 🥕😃❤️🙏🏼🏡🇵🇹

Tomatoes need to be pruned at the bottom and the suckers taken off to produce good fruit. Additionally, they need extra calcium. You can boil egg shells down and drain the water, dilute the water and use the water for the tomatoes.
Get such a rush (and longing) watching you in your garden and the excitement you get from being there. Also, such joy from watching John in "creative mode". Truly wonderful, keep enjoying your farm.
Hey, John, this is Anna, you know. I wishes switch in my channels and I happen to catch one of the old shows that I used to watch. It's called this old house, you would love that program. It's all about building houses, fixing houses, copping tree woods. What you doing right now? When you backyard, I didn't kitchen Google it please. And if you like it, just give me a thumbs up, get it thumbs up, ha ha.❤ PSI know you'll love it.😂
Tomato tip. When you get the flowers buy a very cheap electric tooth brush and hold it at the base of each flower for a second. This makes the flower produce fruit. I know I didn’t believe it, but it actually works. All the very best to you all
I live in the US and mine have not done well either, but if you think it's due to lack of pollinators . Tomatoes can be pollinated by hand with a small fine paint brush. been doing this for years and it works great. This year though my health has prevented me from getting out much. Love all you all are doing!🤩
It is wonderful that you grow your own healthy vegetable and have chicken to lay fresh eggs 🥚 . In this day and age is even more important than ever. 😊❤💕🌻
Tara, if you GENTLY shake (you can also use the back side of the vibrating toothbrush) the tomato branches with flowers, you will pollinate them. You need to do it every day, but it is a small price to pay for plants loaded with tomatoes (I did it this year, and my crop is amazing). John, you really are creative - cannot wait for the summer kitchen to be completed (chop, chop) 🔪
When Crusoe said “it’s not ready yet” about the peppers, it gave me a giggle, cause usually it’s the other way around; his little hands needing to be restrained from picking too soon 🤪
I pollinate my tomatoes by just flicking the flowers. I believe they are self pollinators. I have a pretty good crop this year despite the intense heat. 😊
John you never cease to amaze us with your vision. You can obviously see (picture it in your mind) the end result. It is❤ always such a professional finish. It's going to be a beautiful outdoor kitchen. Your family and friends will spend many wonderful hours enjoying it.
Tara and John you have inspired me I have always wanted to grow my own vegetable garden that I once did as a child growing up. I just started seeing my cucumbers, dill pickles, cherrie tomatoes, pea sugar snap that are sweet along my cilantro and mango i’m super excited some will be canned and some will be use for an incredible dinner or lunch. I used to have a huge farm with cows, goats, horses , chickens in Puerto Rico that my father used to have and fixed so many projects like I have seen with John and I’m sure your boys one day will appreciate what you guys have done for them it will make them one day do the same things you are doing for them with beautiful memories and great sacrifices ❤ Thanks to Tara, John and the cute little boys Sawyer and Crusoe.

Wow what a crop Tara. Luca and Sara's last video showed them visiting their friend and that his tomatoes are well behind due to the weird weather we are having. John the seating and table look amazing x
When I was a kid, 70 years or so ago, we cut off the carrot greens and the then top of the carrot. The orange carrot top was put in a small bowl with water, maybe to the or less of the "carrot" It would sprout and grow. Check you tube videos for more information on this.
Sometimes, I have to look away for a few to process the beauty you two have and continue to create. Does that make sense? Many blessings my faraway friends.
Hej Tara - another use for carrot tops, replant a top with 2cm left of the root, and reduce the top to a stubble, they will regrow and give you a wonderful flower for the bees & seeds for you to plant ! 😊
I really enjoyed watching and listening to John think out loud about how he was going to tackle the bench seat and table. An insight to the inner workings of his thought process!!

Take one of the barrel rings, hang it outside your door with a metal stick and turn it into a way for Tara to call you or the kids to come back to the house when you hit the ring with the stick. (Like in old Western movies) Garlic in the pesto! Are any of your peppers spicy? Add a bit of that too. Not much, just a bit.
I love that idea of the ring and stick Abigail haha I might see if we can do something like that. Yes some of the peppers are spicy, they're not ready just yet but would be a nice addition to the pesto. Thanks so much for watching friend 🥕🫑👨👩👦👦❤️🙏🏼🏡🇵🇹
Moroccan carrot salad, very easy, ideal summer food. Gently boil carrot rounds until barely soft. Make dressing with extra virgin olive oil, ground cumin, grated garlic, orange and/ or lemon juice, coriander leaves chopped. Salt, pepper. Pour over drained warm carrots, let steep in fridge for hour.
I Love what you see building the seating and table. My father had a artistic mind. He created in wood. Like you. GOD BLESS YOU ALL. Your Excellent parents. GREAT TEACHER'S. Thank you for sharing with your hearts. FROM SE MICHIGAN U.S.A.🍉🐦✨🌻🌻🍑🍒🍅👍👍🏡🎉
Tomatoes are self pollinators! They have both male and female parts in their flowers and pollinate themselves when a bit of wind jiggles the flowers. One way you can help them out is to go around and tap each bunch of flowers a couple times every day so that the pollen falls onto the female part of the flower! I did this method this year and my tomatoes were super productive here in Arizona :)
I think, although I don't know anything about growing in Portugal, is that you could sow more carrots in August, then let them grow through the winter until spring. After a frost, the carrots get much sweeter. But again, not sue if this will work in Portugal. I like mine roasted with olive oil, fresh ground pepper, coarse grain salt and cracked coriander seeds. Or, use the Middle Eastern spice mix, Za'tar.

Combine cream cheese, butter and icicng sugar in a mixing bowl using an electric mixer on low to medium speed.
Add the lemon juice and mix again until blended and icing appears smooth and creamy.
Spread the frosting using a silicone spatula on to the cooled carrot cake and enjoy!
Great content and a fantastic choice of music to accompany it all. I love watching you as a family grow too. Stay strong and keep going. :)
Sometimes you need bone meal for tomatoes. We used an electric toothbrush to pollinate tomatoes. Learned that from an online gardener.
It's amazing watching John's mind work
You're an amazing woman❤
Crusoe is quite the little farmer.
Melons can crack open when it gets too hot.. One way to help is by adding straw mulch and adding shade covers during hot periods.. Happy gardening 😀😀
When you pull carrots, first push them down and then pull up, then you don't need water and they won't break.
Wow
Caruso is a Master Gardner in training. I adore seeing your family.
Enjoyed this week's video.
Always enjoy your garden tours Tara with you and Crusoe. It's wonderful how much produce you are picking despite the heat.
All your hard work is paying off.
Lovely to see progress being made on the outside kitchen with John's creativity and imagination.
Cheers until Sunday.
We are so happy to hear that Sandra. The produce we are getting is amazing, I am so excited about it all. Thanks for all your support, we will see you on Sunday 🥕😃❤️🙏🏼🏡🇵🇹
Your garden is doing so well Tara, it's a joy seeing how much produce it's giving! Did you manage to sell your beans, we never heard? And what happened to Crusoe's melon in the end, did it rot or did you eat his friend?😆
See you Sunday my friends. X
Thanks so much Claire! I am SO happy with all the produce, it is definitely a dream come true. We have not yet eaten Crusoe's melon friend haha it is still whole and continues to be his bedmate. Thanks so much for watching friend, see you on Sunday 🥕🫑👨👩👦👦❤️🙏🏼🏡🇵🇹
Tara the garden is Amazing so many 🥕 🥕🥕🥕your beans have got to be atleast 9 feet tall if not taller, you should be proud
Another delightful visit with the Newbys💖👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍👍🤗🤗
Yay, we are so glad you enjoyed today's episode friend 🥕😃❤️🙏🏼🏡🇵🇹
I have always thought the dirtier my kids were at the end of the day proved how much fun they had. Love from za.
I can't believe all those carrots! Amazing! The deck is looking so beautiful and unique, can't wait to see what you do next. You guys sure work hard, including your little Crusoe :)
John’s work is so “artistic”. I’m so enjoying watching him work out issues and design the build! And good work in the garden Tara!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You do have a beautiful crop of watermelon coming up along with so many lovey green peppers & veggies. So happy for your kitchen table. It looks like Crusoe will be a master gardener in your future! John, your enthusiasm and positive outlook will make all the difference in the detail of your outdoor kitchen. Just keep at it! I can't wait to see the completed project! 🤩🙏🏼
Thanks so much for all your support Kathryn. We can't wait to see the completed project either. Your support means so much to us 🥕😃❤️🙏🏼🏡🇵🇹
Plant 🌱 grow 🪴 harvest! Huge carrots. We used to soak our eggplant 🍆 in apple juice to take the bitterness out then grill. The boys look very happy. It’s fun seeing John create. You should not underestimate your skills John. You got this!
I had an old electric toothbrush (with a battery) lying around at the house and thought to pollinate my tomatoes in the greenhouse in Ireland, worked miracles and its fun to see how much pollen is escaping each flower
The more often you do it the better fruits and veggies.
Crusoe you are doing so good and patient with your parents..please continue showing us your enthusiasm. a gorgeous family
Love watching John's plans unfold with the outdoor kitchen. That is going to be one awesome kitchen. And surely you will enjoy it. Sawyer and Crusoe is so cute and I can't wait to see them walking around and playing on you beautiful lawn. ❤
We can't wait for it to be finished Magda. Thanks so much for watching friend ❤️🙏🏼😃🏡🇵🇹

So glad we could surprise you today Dana! Thanks so much for watching friend 🥕😃❤️🙏🏼🏡🇵🇹
What a dream come true, to go shopping in the garden. You look as though you are going to have a melon glut, yum Love the way Crusoe is so knowledgeable about the chickens, and respectful of the plants. Sawyer has such an infectious giggle, and obviously has a lovely little personality. John really makes me smile when he has an idea … he sees a picture of what he wants to create and is on a mission. I hope you enjoyed the pesto, you are amazing Tara. Take care xx
It is indeed a dream come true friend! We are so happy with our harvest. Thank you for all the compliments, you know how to make us all smile. Thanks so much for watching friend, see you on Sunday 🥕🫑👨👩👦👦❤️🙏🏼🏡🇵🇹
Tomatoes need to be pruned at the bottom and the suckers taken off to produce good fruit. Additionally, they need extra calcium. You can boil egg shells down and drain the water, dilute the water and use the water for the tomatoes.
Oh - a cliff hanger 😮… how does the carrot top pesto taste ? Does John figure out the curves ?!!!
Crusoe is becoming quite the little gardener!! ❤❤
Stay tuned to find out Holly 😂 I love having Crusoe's help in the garden. Thanks so much for watching friend, we will see you on Sunday 🥕😃❤️🙏🏼🏡🇵🇹
I had a thought. Perhaps John would build you and the boys a "bug hotel" thus providing a place for solitary bees and ladybirds to make a home?
Love that idea Geraldine! Thanks for sharing, will see what we can do ❤️🙏🏼😃🏡🇵🇹
Get such a rush (and longing) watching you in your garden and the excitement you get from being there. Also, such joy from watching John in "creative mode". Truly wonderful, keep enjoying your farm.
We are so happy to hear that friend! Thanks for watching and enjoying our farm with us ❤️🙏🏼😃🏡🇵🇹
Hey, John, this is Anna, you know. I wishes switch in my channels and I happen to catch one of the old shows that I used to watch. It's called this old house, you would love that program. It's all about building houses, fixing houses, copping tree woods. What you doing right now? When you backyard, I didn't kitchen Google it please. And if you like it, just give me a thumbs up, get it thumbs up, ha ha.❤ PSI know you'll love it.😂
Crusoe loves ☝️helping 😮and on the go all day 😜
Loved seeing both your boys out helping in your garden, lol won’t be long before Sawyers picking fruit behind your back too.
You get so much exercise just by doing your day! Lovely, lovely. 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕
I love roasted aubergine peeled and marinated in oil and vinegar, they can be kept marinating in jars in the fridge.
What a perfect plan you have John 😎
Tara, you`re work makes you Queen of the farm! You go girl!
Love the spontaneous seating area!
Creio que as galinhas irão gostar das folhas das cenouras! Que delícia de episódio, obrigada!
Grate the big carrots and make carrot cake and put cream cheese frosting on it. So good!
Love your garden tours😊
"what you picking mama?" so sweet
Just feels so relaxing watching youre videos ❤
We are so happy to hear that Samuel. Thanks so much for watching friend 🥕🫑👨👩👦👦❤️🙏🏼🏡🇵🇹
I ❤️ watching your sweet family. I also had my coffee with you.
Crusoe is just the most delightful little boy ❤
When Crusoe said “it’s not ready yet” about the peppers, it gave me a giggle, cause usually it’s the other way around; his little hands needing to be restrained from picking too soon 🤪
Carrot 🥕 Chips would be great! I love seeing the little one eat straight from the garden.
That sounds delicious friend! Yum yum 🥕😃❤️🙏🏼🏡🇵🇹
Artistic carpenter at work! Superhuman mum making Pesto! Love it!
Congratulations to Cruseo for pulling up carrots 🥕 👏
Carrots, wow so big, boys will be able to see in the dark now for ever. Love your garden and the deck is going to be out of this world.
It's all looking wonderful, congratulations. The vegetables and the deck😊
Hi friend, we are so happy to hear that! Well done you! That is amazing. Thanks so much for watching, we all send you lots of love and hugs ❤️🙏🏼😃🏡🇵🇹
Hi Newbys…… cor blimey I feel as exhausted as you looked Tara! Multitasking is not easy is it…… carrots galore, you should be so proud at your achievements. John doing a great job…. Crusoe and sawyer little stars….. see ya Sunday…..love and hugs xxxx❤️❤️❤️❤️🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕🍆🍆🫑🫑🍎🍎🥒🥒
Wow what a crop Tara. Luca and Sara's last video showed them visiting their friend and that his tomatoes are well behind due to the weird weather we are having. John the seating and table look amazing x
Be cute to see a childrens book w your boys exploring the garden...or building with dad😉
So. Many. Carrots. Very nice, Tara. In fact your garden looks so amazing! And John’s designs are so impressive. You are an awesome family!
Chickens will love those carrot tops.
I just absolutely love love love your little song and graphics at the end. Really lifts the mood and brightens my day. Thanks guys!😊
Oh Mr. Phoenix the rooster is so impressive ❤😍 He is so big! 🤗 He is so cute ❤I love it. ❤
Hej Tara - another use for carrot tops, replant a top with 2cm left of the root, and reduce the top to a stubble, they will regrow and give you a wonderful flower for the bees & seeds for you to plant ! 😊
Love watching ur boys warms my heart
Well done Tara trying to make use of everything from the garden. Sometimes win, sometimes lose 🤷♀️
I really enjoyed watching and listening to John think out loud about how he was going to tackle the bench seat and table. An insight to the inner workings of his thought process!!
So glad to hear that Uncle Felix, thanks for the feedback. I also love getting insight into John's mind and brain, such an interesting place! Can't wait to see you all soon. Thanks so much for watching 🥕😃❤️🙏🏼🏡🇵🇹
Take one of the barrel rings, hang it outside your door with a metal stick and turn it into a way for Tara to call you or the kids to come back to the house when you hit the ring with the stick. (Like in old Western movies)
Garlic in the pesto!
I love hearing about your plans and struggles ! You may call it waffling but it speaks about life and experiences to me!
I could hardly wait to shed my shoes in the summer as a child. I still prefer being it at 72.😊
