I, somehow, was under the impression that the Remove tool only worked on pixel based layers, akin to the Patch tool. I am happy to see that it can be used on a new layer.
Your videos are so great- thank you. Thanks for time you take to make them and all that goes into each one. You've saved my butt many times with your tutorials, and I've been using PS for over a decade. There is ALWAYS stuff to learn, and thanks for making it fun!
Hello again and thank you so much for these tips on the new features. I think the new gradients function has a lot of potential and I am very glad it is now no longer just in the Beta version but also now in the full one. It's worth noting that the contextual task bar pinning option isn't 'sticky' so one would have to set it again when a new session of Photoshop usage occurs. It only remains in place whilst PS is open at the time.
This is great Colin, Adobe Photoshop are introducing so many new features that most people promoting the the latest and greatest features fail to mention the fact that you need to have your drivers updated and a graphics card that can handle it. Yep, it looks like I have to buy a new laptop to use it!!
You know what I'd like to see in future updates is an update to the lens flare filter. As it's been for years, you have to position the flare based on a tiny preview window which is super hit and miss to get the flare to originate exactly where you want it. I have to often re do trial and error a half dozen times to pinpoint where I want it. If there is a better way to do this, I'd love to see a video on that (I use a lot of lighting effects in my comps).
It would be nice if the contextual tool bar stayed where I pinned it by default every time I open Photoshop. I tend to pin it in the blank space to the upper right area just outside my image. Each time I open PS I have to drag and pin it to that same location. It's only a small thing but I pop in and out of PS via Lightroom quite a lot during an editing session.
I was going to say that. On Beta it was one of the features that I like but (well we are never satisfied) if pin on that position made the bar stay there it would be nice.
Colin the new Adjustment panel was proving to be very unpopular on the Adobe forums because of its tiny icons, but I have just noticed that they have fixed that in the 24.7 beta version. The icons are back to their original size, plus they are fluid and adapt to different panel sizes. I have also realized that, in list view, we only need hover above the panel and spin down with the mouse wheel, and the presets options are scrolled up out of sight tidying up your custom workspaces.
A wee reminder that if you use custom toolbars, then the Remove tool is not automatically added to the main toolbar, and has to be dragged back from the Edit Toolbar panel.
10:19 I wished I could pin it permanently. Prob is, the following image you open, or when you re-open this image, it has to be re-pinned again. It always moves to exactly where you don't want it, and gets in the way of your workflow 90% of the time. Super frustrating quirk of what is a super helpful tool. A 'permanent Pin' feature would be great.
Totally different technology. Lightroom presets remember where the sliders are, they are always on, at some value, even if it's zero. Adjustment layers aren't on, until you add them, but there is so much more
@@photoshopcafe Thanks Colin. That's got me thinking. I'll have to try them again, especially the new Photoshop adjustment layers, to appreciate their differences and uses
Colin, I haven't had a chance to work with PS in awhile, but I have a monthly subscription. Will this give me all the new tools (and AI) or do I have to order the box 2024 edition?
Great tut. I liked all. I am in flexographics and I work with shops that don't like the black channel. So I would normally calculate, change profile or I would cut the channel, paste as layer and multiply it, adjust and then flatten. Is there any other hack to remove a channel and reduce the time while remaining accurate and yet maintain original look of the image?
Colin, You're so gd at figuring out hacks...How can we pin the Contextual Taskbar to a permanent (well, at least for as long as wanted) location & make it 'sticky' from one launch of Ps to another? It's frustrating to have to re-pin it each time we relaunch Ps! My Ps (24.6) didn’t even let me make an action for it.. Thx!
That wouldn’t be actionable because you can’t record screen locations in actions. Sticky pin Sounds like a good feature request though. I’ll pass it through to Adobe
Is your background real or AI? It's pretty cool whatever it is. Do you have Photoshop Main or Photoshop Beta as the software that opens all the files (PSD, JPG etc)? The gradient tool was my fave. Thanks!
The background is a composite I made of several different photos, all old school, masks etc. I use regular version of Ps mostly. I use beta when I need generative fill.
As long as we're wishing...I wish PS could be setup for true left-handed use. IE.-easily move all the tools and panels to the left and have the image window occupy the entire right side so I don't have to continuously reach across my Cintiq to work with layers and adjustments
Hi Colin, if you drag the group out of the ibrary and hit the alt/option button, you can directly place this group editable in your document. So it is nor necessary to get a new document from wich you drag the group to the desired document.
2 weird issues I'm having; my contextual task bar disappears after use, even though I have it pinned and it's still checked in the windows menu. I also don't have all the options you're showing in yours. I am using Photoshop 24.6. Any ideas what the problem might be?
Thanks Colin. When I come back to Layers after using the Pen tool, an annoying and large help panel pops up. Do you know what I mean and can I get rid of it permanently?
I think I've just learned how to remove the annoying contextual bar, you said it wasn't A.i. but it seems to have an uncanny way of getting exactly in the way. I know you can temporarily pin it, but wish you could lock it to the top right and it stay there all the time.
@@photoshopcafe For starters, does it work with HDR at all? Or is it still an ACR only feature? In Krita, for example, you can paint in HDR (also save in HDR and load too)
Important to mention that for mac users is mandatory to have at least OS version 12 or higher in order to use the new Remove Tool, not sure the requirements for Windows users.
Remove blew my mind. Gradient update was 15 years over due. Pinning the contextual bar does not persist across sessions, which makes it annoying and tends to get in the way. Overall a good update. On that note. Anyone noticing the hand tool getting stuck when used with space bar and only clicking will release it? So, if the brush tool is active, you will paint onto the image which has to be undone. So it seems that Adobe is throwing a lot of money towards AI, but hires incompetent UI designers…
I know on the Beta version that Contextual Tool Bar "Pin" feature never worked. You would Pin It and after performing one task it would go back to floating around the screen. I pray they have fixed it in the official release because it was one of the most annoying features (in a long line of annoying Adobe features thu-out the years) ever!
I can't believe that anyone thought the floating task bar was a good idea. It's a UX nightmare. Overall weak features and hardly anything to be excited about.

The new gradient tool is more useable than ever - thanks as always for a clear uncluttered tutorial!
Thanks!
Thanks so much!
The new Gradient features - that's my favorite here and I'd lap up any advanced level tutorials on this from you, thanks a lot Colin!
informative video on new features in photoshop.
New gradients are my favourite! It was before so much behind Illustrator and even InDesign. Now is what it should be. So useful.
The gradients feature was really valuable to me, thank you.
Super helpful tips Colin!
I love the new gradient tool. Thank you for this tutorial!! 👍
Brilliant Colin !! a new subscriber here!!
Gradient walk through was VERY good - thanks ;-)
Thank You very much, Colin!
Thanks for the hot Tip, really ,really helpfull
The new gradient feature is very welcome!
WOW love it
Thank you. For me being able to add light and to have the control that PS gives is simply brilliant.
Gradient manipulation is great and I like to learn more about it.
I would like to see more tutorials about the gradient tool.
This is great👍
Great video again Colin and my favourite is the Remove Tool, followed by the Contextual Tool Bar, which is super versatile.
awesome

I have actually done tutorials on lens flares here and offer tips for positioning. But it would be nice to get some new ones in PS
I completely agree with you.
The adjustment presets seem like a great way to quickly enhance images.
Its a nice addition

I saw someone drug it to the toolbar on the top but I haven’t tried it yet
Couldn't agree more - it drives me nuts that it unpins itself!
Thanks again Colin for this nice video. It's good to realize that there's much more to Photoshop than generative fill.
lots more :)
do you have a video of how to get that painted look of the model in this video?
Great video as always, thanks for the run down of the updates Colin 🙂
Anytime
The contextual bar floating is annoying and would be great if you could dock it to the top menu bar or bottom menu bar permanently or in preferences
good to kn ow
I was praying to have something like this "pin bar position"!
Excellent! Thank you 🙏♥️😀🎉
You’re welcome!

I am used to take photos with my Kase filters, it will much easier to handle the photos with PS.
I think the remove tool is my new favorite one.
I love it too
Remove Tool is even better than Generative Fill! 🎉🎉🎉
My last vid was a comparison between the 2. In many cases it is
Would love a tutorial on the remove tool.

A lot of people are asking for that
Hi Colin.... I think they should lock the tookbar to the top of the page...(if possible). Thank you Colin Devon UK.... PS Love your video's...👍

Thanks Colin. So what's the difference between these new Adjustment Layers in Photoshop - and the Presets on the left hand side of Lightroom?

Yes, you can update to the latest, it's all included in your subscription. The sub also gives you access to the beta where the gen fill is.
@@photoshopcafe Thank you,Colin.
Can you tell me if the generative fill option is still in Photoshop beta or is it available in Photoshop 24.6?

If the channel name is the same just use a PS action.

New gradient tool for my choice. But I agree with other folks who want the ability to keep the contextual task bar pinned.

I didn't see any changes from the shipped version versus the beta?
Beta Has generative Fill
the line for adjusting the gradient tool, ( 5.20) is absent from my PS even tho its up to date, Am I missing something ?
Amazing features lunched by adobe.
indeed!

Hi Colin, if you drag the group out of the ibrary and hit the alt/option button, you can directly place this group editable in your document. So it is nor necessary to get a new document from wich you drag the group to the desired document.
Yeah, but you have to change the blend mode to Pass Through, so its about the same amount of work

The remove tool is not in my photoshop. I've tried restoring the defaults and hitting update. But the only way I can get it is go to the beta version.
Go into the toolbar preferences and add it. the dots at the bottom of the tool bar
Thanks Colin. When I come back to Layers after using the Pen tool, an annoying and large help panel pops up. Do you know what I mean and can I get rid of it permanently?

Why wouldn't they allow you to save your own presets....other than them simply creating ANOTHER hobbist-oriented quick feature instead?
Usually they add features as they go, so I wouldn't be surprised if its not in the cards
