Hard to believe such a small overflow will handle a tank of around 1500lts! But look great and I love how you get excited by each little part of the build.
Also the two black pieces you have is to remove the vier from the overflow box.. I was also wondering but if yuh notice there is a drive where you place the two black pieces on each side to remove..
Good choice, that’s exactly what I am currently using in my 46 gallons I know it’s a way over kill and that’s V1 and now will be using the V2 on my new 180 gallons build.. Look forward to seeing the new build.. definitely following along.. 👍👏👏🙌🙌
Hey Sam, are you still happy with this overflow this far down the track? Would you get one again or is there a different product you think you'd try instead?
Hey Adam. I sure am! However I would potentially plumb it differently. The bean animal is great when working but I prefer a Durso I think. The overflow itself has been great though
@@ParkersReef Is there enough space in the Shadow to install a proper durso with secondary / tertiary emergency drains etc? The box looks very shallow...
Hey Enrico, the overflow comes with some piping, but I had to adapt it to the plumbing I wanted to use, check it out in this video: ruclips.net/video/4KrAA8UumDA/видео.html
Hi Sam, do you have a rough estimate as to when the new tank will be delivered. I’m sure every sub, not forgetting yourself, are exited. It’ll be an exiting series of videos on its install to fully operational. Can’t wait. 👍🏴
Hey John, no delivery date just yet. I am expecting it to be wet and running before the end of the year, sounds like a long time but lots to do before then
I love my V1 Shadow overflow, and was tihnking to get another for my new tank build. But, the answer i got from their "customer service" is the biggest disappointment As most of us know, besides Synergy Reef it seems, standard diameters mm vs inches varies depending on there you are located, and because of this being able to switch out the original 3 bulkheads was a big plus. Anyways, here is my question and the answer i got from Synergy Reef: Q: Hello, Is there any way to get the original overflow box? The one with the bulkheads in the bottom? Thanks. Best Stian Andreassen And here is the answer i got from their customer service: A: Why would we build them when we have a better product now? The 3 bulkheads are just another point of failure. This is the whole reason we designed the shadow 4 years ago for injection molding. WE (sic) have not hand built the 16" in over 5 years (no signature) I this answer shows a total ignorance towards an intentional customer base, and I will absolutely not do any business with this company again. Which is a shame really, because their original product was really good.
@@ParkersReef i found it really hard to get a gate valve. I end up getting one off ebay. Had to come from America. I think reece wanted $79.00 for one and it was to small. Just letting you know
Love it, i just think they have a pretty high profit margin on this, i mean, it would most likely cost then no more 7-10$ to get made in China, its just a plastic box (simplified a bit but nothing special goes into it) so i dont see where the 199$ comes from, maybe just very expensive lollipops :). I have a freshwater tank now, but would love to make my own 1500L+ saltwater from scratch some day, only thing stopping me in the insane profit margin on >everything< saltwater aquarium related, sure it looks neat in the box and bezel and stuff, but for me its hard to look at something like this, knowing how little it cost to manufacture, to justify myself buying it.. Same with the protein skimmer, i mean its just plastic bottle (again simplified only a bit) and a small pump, why does it have to cost 700-1000$? Lighting, for my freshwater decent LED light cost 100$... for saltwater tank suttenly we talk 1000$+, both LED, both with day/night control.. Before you look you spend 10-25.000$ on tank, plastic pieces, light, sump ect... and not even put in fish, you can put downpayment for a small house for that :D (i know, who wants a house anyways), but its still nice to put the aquarium somewhere :) I just think the intire saltwater business is waaay overpriced (and people warn me alot.. "stay freshwater, saltwater will cost you your house"), but who knows, maybe some day :) Maybe i will just for fun make my freshwater with overflow and a sump, just to try out and pretend its a saltwater :)
yeah for sure, saltwater aint cheap and the profit margins must be insane. But you are missing a few key points that make all the difference. Yes, you can make your own overflow, but it might take a few iterations to get it flowing correctly and quietly. Each time taking you more materials and more importantly, time, to create and install. Then you best hope that it doesn't fail like a DIY one I saw the other day that flooded a house. At that point, you'll think $199 is the best deal on the planet :P Same with lighting, if you just want to light the tank up to be able to see the fish - you can do it with a $5 light. If you want to put energy at the right spectrum and strength into the tank for corals to not only survive, but grow and thrive - you're going to want something a little more special. That takes research and development, quality equipment and yes, crazy profit margins! Long story short, totally agree, there are some decent profit margins in salt water, but it isn't for no reason :)
The low profile of the overflow is smart.
no use wasting display space with overflow!!!
With the gaskets actually one goes inside the tank and the other inside the external box 👍
I reckon one will go inside the tank, but the other will go before the external box. The box will end up acting as a big washer
@@ParkersReef usually you want them holding water in not holding water out. 🤷♂️

Yeah I can’t see why not, there’s enough room for a bean animal… somehow 😅
Nice addition. I've always wanted one of these myself.
You and me both!

What is the size of the hole we need to drill into the tank to mount these?
It’s in the template, I think it is 57mm?

Love the shadow overflow, only grip would be the weir's need cleaned alittle more regularly then a fixed overflow, due to size of the intake chamber.
yeah ok, fair call - will see how this one holds up
@@ParkersReef they hold up great lol
You will love it and wish you had it sooner 😂
I have the exact one. Very slimline.
Sweeeeeet
Amazing un boxing. What is the flowrate of this and what return pump or pumps are you planning to use
It can flow up to 2500 gallons per hour, or about 9500 litres per hour. More than enough, Im not a huge fan of super quick sump turnover :)
now its in your hands... is it worth 500 odd bucks?
Yeah fair question. To be totally honest, no, they must make a killing on them 😅😂
But it will do a solid job I am sure
@@ParkersReef Kind of looks like if one of the pipes you connect to it got a good nudge, it could crack, do you think that's possible?
