Aston Martin's new DBS Superleggera might not actually be 'Superlegerra,' or super-light, at 4,000 lbs. But with a carbon body, it is lighter than the DB11 on which it is based. More importantly is the massage work that goes into the twin-turbo V12 engine, which now makes 715 HP and so much torque that the ECU refuses to deliver it to you whole until you reach fourth gear and nearly 100 mph. It can easily spin the tires at 80 mph if you disable traction control, which is exactly our definition of "elegant." The leather work is sublime, the Mercedes infotainment mean that stuff works, and the ride quality, for a 700-HP, front-engined car, is best in class. You just gotta stomach the $340,000 sticker price to get one.
Aston Martin provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of gas for this review.
That is absolutely one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Doesn't matter how fast it is, doesn't matter what it weighs. It is insanely gorgeous, my god.
aston market demand just tank....
Absolutely agreed dude
Couldn't agree more. It's been my pc wallpaper for months now
Now take a look at the Vanquish.
Exactly. It could of handled like garbage, and I’d still want one.
That car is stunningly beautiful. Hats off to aston’s designers.
So beautiful! I would love to get one! We filmed an awesome R8 that was bagged, had a liberty walk widebody kit and such. I would love to modify a DB, but what they have done is so tasteful!
I do like the simpler DB 11 more
@Shawn Albert thats fucked
WTF???
i dont mean to be offtopic but does anyone know a tool to get back into an instagram account?
I somehow lost my login password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
Man everytime someone gets an even slightly above average picture of this car, I'm just left staring every time. Insane how good it looks
I've seen a couple in person, yes they're that stunning
it's insane how good looking this car is.
WTF???
The only thing I dislike is the design of the interior, really inferior in comparison to the Bentley.
Apart from that it's gorgeous, elegant and sporty at the same time.
I think a Bentleys interior is too glitzy for a sports gt
Yeah, intereior console is just too dated.
Jesus, that 360-degree shot was GORGEOUS!!!
Aston makes stunningly beautiful cars...not always the quickest or best handling, but one of the most attractive cars on the road.
@Jamal BBCLife lmfao thats a dumb statement. Aston is much more snobby than Ferrari, and you get less for the price.
SMURF!!!!
I don't care how many people may dislike this car, I want one. Just the looks alone already make it stand out from the rest of the super-GT crowd. Plus that noise, and the fact that you could easily daily one. I need to win a lottery ticket..
This also must be said, I'm a huge Ferrari fanatic, and the 812 Superfast is one of my favourite super-GT's of recent. I think I'd need to have both this and an 812..
I'll take this over the superfast. Because this looks Supergreat. Yes looks matter.... always.
Yeah im in the dame boat. Im quite annoyed they are moving to electric cars :(
1-2K mile V12 2018 DB11's are about 100K off as low as about 150K with some negotiating, you can have a AMR tune done for a few thousand by a Aston Dealer.
AMR tune is $1k for 30 hp , transmission tuning and louder exhaust. It’s the best deal.
Love how classy yet fun Aston's are. What a beauty.
classy? the sneaker design treatment is just not classy about it...it going jame bond to jame Corden...
@@campkira we're not talking about Lambos
TURD!!!!
Matt be sounding like Joey Diaz
My favorite car...period. Makes me feel like we are living in the future. What a beauty. Life goal!!
Definitely would love to achieve a goal like that! My personal favourite definitely goes to the new model R8s though!
4000 lbs a "bit of a porker"? That a whole bacon factory.
Augusto O.R should have saved a few pounds and deleted that rear “seat”. No one will ever sit in the back.
Thats with all modern cars though... even e92 m3 is close to that (~3700lbs).
@@stefanfreestylez Yeah 3700's arent light at all, but its definitely easier to hide 3700 than 4000+. Bear in mind my E90 has seating for 5 and a trunk large enough to carry two wheels with tires. Its not a Flagship two seater supercar for one of the most prestigious racing brands in the world.
@@augustortiz Aston Martin makes grand tourers, not hardcore race cars.
@@tyvekhomewrap9164 oh really? I wonder what the AMR One, DBR9, BO9/60, Vulcan, Valkyrie, Vanquish, Vantage GTE are. Oh and how could I have forgotten about their F1 team..
I really like Astons I miss mine. Don't ever get married!
Lmfao
Was she just as beautiful might have been worth it 😂
Is aston freedom?
How does marriage make you lose your Aston? I still have my sports car and I've been married 6 years.
Ivan Levko you know how, don’t act stupid.
Owning one and driving it I have to say, I like the fact it is heavier. It just feels solid and planted on the road. Steering is quick and precise. To overcome the long 3rd gear, you use the ample carbon ceramic brakes. It takes some practice, but once you learn the trick, the gears are in just the right place.
This is t a wanna be track car like most Ferraris, it’s a true Grand Touring car. A very enjoyable one at that.
In my head, I’m contemplating the use of the “Superleggera” badge and whether it’s justified... Then I see that power-operated sliding armrest and swaths of leather... 🤦♂️ Looks damn good though!
Serious question. Are there ever cops up there in the canyons? You seem pretty confident you won’t get pulled up there
I once lived in the area. You rarely see any patrolling. There arent many homes, so there isn't a reason for them to get into the hills. If you do see one, rest assured they'll target a supercar doing triple digits.
Like Joey said, pretty rare and the patrol area is really big. These sort of places in California rarely have speed traps unless they get too active. So the odds of getting popped are pretty low, especially if you know where the small towns other places where that one officer in that area might be hanging out are. And even if someone calls you in, nearest officer available might be 20 or 30 minutes away.
I always tell people if you want to go really fast there are plenty of canyons, back-roads and deserts in CA that are far away from attention... just remember they are also far away from rescue. There are some highways in East Oregon that are flat straight and you might be lucky to see more than 2 cars in an hour., even if your pushing 150+.
Odds of running into cops are especially low if uou take the side Canyon roads in the LA mountains, and Matt knows the layout and occasional speed trap locations pretty well
Zack was stopped by cops ones.
You guys are missing the point. He is doing 3 times the posted speed limit which is fine except he is recording all this on video, right past the 25 mph speed limit signs, then posting on youtube. NOT a good idea.
I dont get why people would choose this instead while Ferrari has a 6.5 liter 800hp all motor GT on the offer
Really amazed how Aston Martin can continue making cars that sort of look the same and are unmistakably Astons but keep looking fresh and new. Such a beautiful car.
Looks like a copy of Lexus LC500
@@chadhaire1711 Or since Aston have been making cars with these styling cues for decades, maybe that Lexus looks like an Aston.
@@EvilSSP There is NOTHING about this DBS that looks like a previous Aston....lots about this ASTON that looks like the LC500. i suggest you take another look at the LC500.
@@chadhaire1711 Anyone who's ever seen an Aston Martin would know that this is an Aston Martin if the car had no badges on it at all. If you can't see a styling cue, then this conversation is over.
@@EvilSSP The styling cue is Lexus LC500 with a change in front grille and tail lights. NOTHING original here. It will be a dog seller just like the new Acura NSX
I drove the DBS at Milbrook where we also drove the new Vantage & DB11. The DBS looks gorgeous and to drive it feels lovely in comparison to the DB11, the DB11 felt very pendulumy and sloppy. The DBS felt like you sat lower in it and it felt like it wrapped around you more. Generally just drove like it meant business. My foibles with the car are the satnav screen not folding downaway. That annoys me, cheapens the car imo. The ZF gearbox doesn't feel special / unique enough even though it's quick, the fart up changes it feels a little Gold R or [insert similarly farty sounding hot hatches / M240i etc]. A DCT no matter what anyone says, imo, provides an edge of specialness/sportiness/intent that the ZF doesn't provide. The exhaust, it sounds lovely but once you've heard it side by side with an old Vanquish you realise how much it's been muted by the turbo's and particulate filters. Someone needs to do something about that to get back a little more edge/bite to the exhaust sound. I noticed with the new Vantage, it sounds great outside, loud, rumbly etc but inside you couldn't hear the engine at all really. Certainly not in comparison to the older Vantages. Not much you can do about that unless you want to remove some sound proofing but it's a shame really, these are still meant to be great British sports cars & GT cars not limo's. In comparison to the F12, the DBS is for going to the business meetings / doing a more GT gentleman drive / maybe road trip to some lovely hotels and Christmas markets in Europe etc. The F12 is for running down to Le Mans with your mates, or road tripping to Nurburgring for the 24 hour race. I think they both have enough looks to be parked in Casino Square in Monaco though and although the Ferrari may instigate the more immediate photographs I think the Aston exudes a different kind of style, especially when you can get the Volante and put the roof down on the French Riviera..... sorry now I'm just dreaming :(
For super GT cars it a 2 car race between the 812SF and this. Man they are great cars.
Love the 9-2X absolutely mobbing at 13:10
All that bloody interior addingto the weight
It would be cool for Aston to build a bare bones(Porsche RS style)DBS or Vantage that is very light weight. I understand their niche is GT cars, but a lighter weight track focused car would probably sell extremely well for AM.
Is it just me or is there something weird about the engine sound in the slower parts of the video, especially while behind the ford?
It sounds like it's being turned on and off but they wouldn't pump fake engine sound through the speakers in such a car, right?
probably valves in the exhaust system that open automatically at a certain rpm
It's probably the cylinder deactivation system. When you're just crousing it shuts down one bank to save fuel.
sounds like fake BMW sound
Tristan Nelson
The sound is definitely pumped in, but I think the pumped in sound corresponds with the exhaust valves
@@M67v Does this car have that? I'm not too familiar with the DBS but I've never heard that it has fake/amplified engine sound in the cabin.
I can't decide if this car looks better than the car it replaces. It looks good, but the vanquish was, in my opinion, the best looking Aston ever made.
I don't understand why so many people hate the interior. It's beautiful! I can't name many big car brands that make a nicer interior.
Audi interiors are definitely a favourite of mine! I still think this interior is absolutely insane and I love it!
The center console looks a little outdated as always for Aston Martin, but otherwise I agree.
The real question is how this compares to the 812 screaming NA V12.
Having had a Ferrari and before I had the same question. The 812 is a great engine but you don’t hear it unless you rev it out - which you hardly ever do in normal life. The DBS sounds better at normal revs and has more torque so it feels faster. It was close, but I ended up buying the DBS.
The 2-3 gearing gap is audibly evident. I'd think there to be satisfaction in the resultant uninterrupted, long pull experience from a beautiful, TT V-12, grand touring wonder. Should FU money ever enter my life, this Aston is at the top of the list.
My God that car is BEAUTIFUL !!!!
So beautiful! I would love to get one! We filmed an awesome R8 that was bagged, had a liberty walk widebody kit and such. I would love to modify a DB, but what they have done is so tasteful!
Based on looks, I'd take this over an F12 any day. There would have to be a pretty damn huge gap in performance/usability/fun factor/etc for me to choose an F12 over this beautiful thing.
So glad you mention armrest positioning ,that’s a pet peeve of mine!
So many cars have armrest issues! If only they took some more time on it haha!
I drove past a couple of these outside my local Aston dealership (Wilmslow UK) today. Stunning looking car. The sort of looks that make you drive back round just for another look.
I love the wheels - reminds of a larger, wider, Nissan Maxima wheel
Eric B not sure if I’d want to be reminded of a maxima when paying 340k
Someone at Aston Martin just committed suicide
Its beautiful..and actually it's about right in weight for a luxury supercar with a twin turbo v12...4000lbs is somehow still lighter then a challenger hellcat and this has slightly better power to weight
Wish they wouldn't force people to spend 100K extra to get the V12 in the Convertible vs a V12 DB11 Volante. The DB9 GT Volante was around 215-250K with options last gen.
Thank you that was awesome road awesome footage, few do it properly you nailed it perfectly with that road *(, the engine sound is addictive, I felt like I was behind the wheel,, with all this lockdown even here in Australia I would appreciate more epic runs on that road , verynprofesssional and positive vlog
I’m not digging the stitched pattern on the leather
Betaops252 it's a cool design but I think they used too much of it
Agree, hideous. These patterns are just dumb. Plain is better.
If I had the money for a DBS Superleggera or Ferrari 812SF - I would have the DBS any day, Quality and torque in a stunning body is ideal. Its engine tone is fantastic too! Deep, throaty and stunning!
I really appreciate these camera angles. The camera on the face is trash on old. Watching on a 70inch TV is phenomenal. 👏👏👏👏👍
That side shot looks like a current generation Camaro. I honestly first thought why does that Camaro have those sweet wheels? ...then realized it was an Aston.
The thumbnail totally made me think Camaro or mustang
The Camaro is a bit more stubby and Falls off at the front and back but I can see what you mean
Best looking of the new AM DB's. Stunning blue color!
It looks absolutely stunning doesn't it! I hope to film a DB one day!
God, that car is astonishingly beautiful
Now THAT is a good looking car.
Am I the only one who can't tell the difference between any of the astons anymore?
Yes
Yes? Lol
Definitely
The ordinary'ish dash is especially disappointing compared to that utterly gorgeous exterior...
But what an incredible-looking thing, damn!
Saw a white convertible on the freeway the other day. That thing was sex on wheels. Best looking new car in my opinion.
V12 means dinosaur in 2020
And I love T Rex
This thing is a damn masterpiece... sheesh
That is such a clean, beautiful design. Exudes class.
Great vid and the speed shots are on point
They're pretty great shots, aren't they! We are trying to create great content like this too, hoping to get to this point of content!
Love the 3rd to 4th shift on the ZF 8 Speed. Works so well on these high power cars. Its definitely my favorite traditional Auto box.
This cars shift burp/farts are insane! Like a GTI's but even better.
$340k car with an infotainment from a $40k car.
HBY aston is a joke
BurnedSpace and about to be broke. Sadly.
@Victor Hugo Having an intuitive media interface that is competitive is not the same as autonomous driving. We are not talking about rear wheel steering, level2+ autonomous driving, or lane keep assist - etc. You might want to understand the difference between "infotainment" and technology that affects driving.
I never win anything, but I did put 2k chances in for that Audi. lol
Let me take it for a spin if you win it
I gave it a shot myself. You only live one right?
Reviews the Supeleggerara
Complaints about the heavy weight.
C'mon Aston!
The want is strong with this one
Amazing car. Love all of your videos Matt but Perhaps consider investing in a collar clip-on microphone? I seriously missed some of your excellent commentary due to that damn Aston humming! This one was particularly difficult but some videos are fine. I can't believe how loud that car is in the cabin!
What a stunning car. That side profile is absolutely beautiful.
Pleasant experience and classy look. Thx for the ride along
I do not care about 0 to 60 or whether a Ferrari corners faster, i want one, pounding down the Italian A Roads this is the machine.. Doug Score 100
What a gorgeous car
Jokes on you buddy...the R8 doesn’t have a trunk for the 20k
Now THAT'S a spec! Gorgeous.
A copy of Lexus LC500..Big deal
3:30 just about to watch an epic launch...Turbo Tax Ad: "file your..." NO turbo Tax, can't you see I'm trying to avoid paying taxes...need to get me one of these!
Beautiful. And that colour, wow.
Sound check, definitely
Big love for these.
So much love.
What about a DB11 V8 since you can actually use it.
My dream Bond car is still the Vanquish, the last one with a NA V12. The twin turbos muted the sound on the inside IMO. Aside from the gaping grille that I'm not a fan of, the rest of the body is insanely gorgeous.
Beautiful Gran Turismo V12, the fastest 25mph ever so far , lovely 😊
Man even the wipers are nice 🥵🥵🥵
That armrest is so cool/unnecessary
And in a British car, it's guaranteed to break within 3 months.
SMURF!!!!
Superlegera but weighs over 4000lb ...
For the displacement AND forced induction seems like a bit too much engine for the car. I reckon a larger displacement NA engine would be lighter plus need way less claptrap to reject heat. Also the fact that they're dumping torque/power in the first three gears sounds like they're compromised on the transmission. They've put way too much engine in the car kinda like those sandwiches with a pound of turkey between two slices of wonder bread.
It is gorgeous though.
Wish you were giving this away, it is beautiful
Aston Martin is to me the Nintendo of the car world: distinctive, but always under-powered compared to the competition!
If you close your eyes, it sounds like the new BMW M340i. Why on Earth does Aston's V12 sound like a family sedan? It's full of power but it just doesn't sound like a V12 at all (I know they're derivatives of one another). The V8 in the DB12/Vantage sounds great thanks to MB, but the V12 just doesn't cut it for me. Gorgeous car overall, but they failed in the sound department imo. And for the money that my local AM dealership was asking for - I'd rather an 812 Superfast.
You’re not kidding at all. Doesn’t kinda sound like a new bimmer 3 series
Shout out to the Saabaru 9-2X mobbing at 13:12.
I think this is one of the most beautiful cars available, it’s unfortunate that it has so many flaws for the dollars.
1:41 Pause it and marvel at that car! Wow James Bond better have this in the next film.
I guy i sort of know who owns a DB11, says that it doesn't have fake engine noises in the cabin. This one sounds like it has Playstation engine noises too. I get annoyed listening to how this car sounds on the inside. Sure it would be a nice car to own, if it sounds better irl, and boy.. That blue suits it SO well. Amazing looking car, even including the cut-outs behind the front wheels that i don't like.
God I hope they put that engine into their SUV. Now they have a 4x4 system, maybe they will install it into a DBS-V12 SL to cut under that 3 second barrier.
6:45 Circuit Paul Ricard was not designed by Tilke and it's actually not that flat either.
Its like a Fuji circuit
"flat" implying smooth, not level.
I won't give up Matt's secrets but I know that road! Made a short film with a buddy of mine who wanted to use my '66 Mustang in it. It's a lot of fun to drive if you can find it.
What a beautiful spec!
So beautiful! I would love to get one! We filmed an awesome R8 that was bagged, had a liberty walk widebody kit and such. I would love to modify a DB, but what they have done is so tasteful!
I can’t agree with your comments about tge DB11, it’s a fantastic car in all uses. Ferrari/ want to spend your days on a breakdown truck then?
Would you take this over a 812 superfast?
Gus Wollaeger Hard No. 812 Superfast has one of the greatest engines of all time, no turbos, much better gearbox, better infotainment, better chassis, lighter, and better pedigree.
Yes, just more practical, classy and God would I love an Aston
Yes... Superfast ugly, this Superbeauty. Would be better suited for worldly driving. Dont care about the track.
@Victor Hugo could be all these supercars are option to taste which can make superfast close 600k if your super silly.
I drove both and bought the Aston. 😊
@9:40 and @9:47 What the hell is up with the sound? Is that some kind of bug with the artificial sound thats being pumped in or what? Sounds horrible!
Anyone else like me prefer the DBS over the Ferrari 812 ?
Yes, I drove both and bought the Aston. 👍
Every version of the zf 8 speed has that weird gear ratio. Compared to a manual, it is way harder to change the ratios between gear because of the planetary gear sets having to fit in a specific size area of the gearbox case. Which is why no one bothers.
Jesus christ Astons are so fucking stunning
from the side it looks like a very refined camero
Oh noooo! There definitely are some nice similar features between them, but they still look great!
entire car shape is a copy of Lexus LC500--get serious
This car looks hot! Also I don't see a link in the description...
9:14 Do I dislike people who answer their own questions? Yes, yes I do..
I have always loves the Aston Martin variants as they all look pretty sexy with a bulging wide buttock as its ID, really really awesome. Till today, i still own the 2012 DBS hihi.. thanks bro..😬💪
I’d rather have the dbs from 2009
me too, best aston after 0ne-77 for me
@t c Yh agreed that merc interior bits only looks good with the merc interior as it flow within the lines of the dashboard. Aston should have gone more towards a minimalist Audi style or middle Bentley size system.
I think they're running out of ideas
Me too. 510hp, not much slower than this to be honest. 0-60 was like 3.9 sec and top speed was close to 200
@t c Still prefer the DB9 interior...clean, simple, classier. This one is a bit too Lambo for me.
A great way to start 2020!
Wow that color
Totally stunning! My favourite production car on sale today
looks no different from the Lexus LC500
CEREBRAL PARES!!!!!
The picture of the AM in the thumbnail actually looks a bit like a lexus lc500 from the side
good job man good job keep on the hard work very processionnal
Not a fan of the leather design or the leather design in the last gen vanquish.
Better in Satin Black. I have the Porsche 911 turbo S 2021 in Agate gray.
