Love racing in the rain. Did a 10 hour endurance race last weekend in the rain. We were quickest on track, at times by more than 2 seconds a lap. The most fun was the few hours on slicks in the wet, before we changed to wets.

Loosen up your crash bars helps get some torsional twist to generate energy into the tires

I grew up racing karts when the only allowed set of tyres was a set of Dunlop's that had very little grip. You had to be really gentle with the kart otherwise it would just spin out. After about 3 years, the tyres got changed to a set of really sticky Bridgestone tyres, that were difficult to even slide around on. It made karting too easy and people who got into the sport had only raced on those didn't know what to do in the wet. Whenever I would race in the wet, all the other kids didn't know how to even turn the kart around a corner because there was such little grip, but it just felt exactly like the old Dunlop's to me. Rain racing has always been my favourite because of this, and I don't think I ever finished third or below in a wet race because of it. Even here in Australia, "rain is the great equaliser" is such an truthful statement. There were plenty of kids who had millionaire dads, three or four engines sitting in their kart trailers, all with the largest bore and best tuning to have the most amount of power. Even 3-4 HP down, if you have the skills, experience and knowledge on how to deal with low grip, you will always be at an advantage to your competitors.

Taking outside of the curve is also to avoid tire track at the apex, tire track become very slippy on the rain

I know one thing it's more fun to race in the rain rather than flagging ! Pulling off the spin and win is a great feeling ! A guy in Rotax went with dry tires on wet track . He spun on warm up lap and spun on lap 1 . At the flag he was 2nd and was beside the winner ! The start of 16th year coming up soon !

@@kierantr5 Thankfully pretty good in the rain ! Until the day I broke my never go 1st in practice rule ! Ended up with a mud bath and stranded ☹️ Got high fives when made it back to pits !! I screwed up real good . Was a explosion of mud grass and water 🤣😂🏁. Ended up 4th in final . A good bit of video is Flying Go Kart Overtake . Was at end of fence when kart hit the ground . Done it myself in 2010 and remember it like yesterday . Was not bad until gravity took over !! My 2nd year flagging seen a kart do cartwheels . Driver ejected and his kart ended up upside down balanced steering wheel to steering wheel of another kart 🤯 .
