      Seems like not enough bulk is being assigned to stuff like power, cooling, structure - all the ordinary tedious junk which (along with cost) imposes limits on our own engineering.
      But I suppose a dozen centuries of technological progress (and access to off-Earth unobtainium) could miniaturize stuff more than our engineers would ever believe possible.

    The Eagle was my first ship ever bought, and ultimately was the biggest teacher I ever had. With more maneuverability and learning the restrictions of cargo space and jump range, I started to understand how to tinker with ships a bit more. Fiddling until hard points were properly set up was especially a big one, and learning the importance of core internal upgrades.

    Marvelous! Well, done, my good Sir! :D
    Especially since the Eagle is still my favorite ship (altough I am not using it very often; mostly for joy-riding).
    Never noticed how big those Crew Quarters are - I assume even bigger then in the Hauler, and I have a feeling the Hauler is half Crew Quarters, considering how little space is there for Cargo, despite being almost as big as a Viper or Adder (which outperform the Hauler optional internal-wise, even with having larger Core-Modules).
    I would like to see the Imperial Eagle in contrast, and how the bigger PowerPlant and Size 2 Weapon would fit in.
    Again, thanks for the Video - really enjoyed it! :D

    • @JohnUs300
      @JohnUs300  6 лет назад +1

      I have both Hauler and Adder layouts ready - both were pretty interesting and challenging to figure out. Especially since Adder has asymmetric interior layout.
      Regarding imperial eagle - I don't have the layout yet, but from the looks of it - the M Hardpoint should fit quite easily, contrary to the bigger power plant.. which makes me a bit concerned it may 'break' the modular system.

    • @thespectator1243
      @thespectator1243 6 лет назад +1

      Hmm, as far as I can tell the Eagle's internal design is already asymmetrically, the 2 x Class 1 Internals and the FSD are on opposite sides; as for the PowerPlant, I think on the Cobra it is on the far right (?) side, for instance, so it can become even more asymmetrical then in an Eagle. ;)
      About the iEagle's PowerPlant: hmm, maybe there is room for it when the Thermal Core is made smaller (or to be extended in the area where currently the luxuirous Crew-Quarters are? ;)
      Btw., I can not tell if you have taken into account that the Thrusters (Class 3) actually consist of the Acceleration-Thrusters, the Retro-Thrusters and the Maneuverering-Thrusters - so all of those should represent the same volume combined as a single Size 3 Compartment.
      Maybe you have, but it kinda looks like the two Acceleration-Thrusters use up the same amount of space twoa Size 2 Compartment would. Maybe it''s the angle... .
      (I wonder why Frontier desided that the Thrusters are all one Item, also they clearly are muliple ones - at least two Main-Thrusters, two Retro-Thrusteras and various Maneuvering-Thrusters - which would have made engineering them also more interesting.)
      Slightly off-topic, regarding both Eagles:
      I think the iEagle should not have been made so much less maneuverable then the original Eagle.
      Yes, it's faster, yes it has a larger PowerPlant and one S1 Hardpoint now is a Size 2.
      Then again the lack of maneuverability not only kind of negates the advantages of the largers PP and Weapons, but actually over-compensates, methinks.
      I'd rather have had a slightly less efficient Thermal Core on top of a minor maneuverability-loss, in contrast to the rather severe maneuverability-loss we are stuck with now.
      P.S.: Hauler and Adder... YES ! Don't actually fly them anymore, but I still have fond memories of them! :D

    • @JohnUs300
      @JohnUs300  6 лет назад +2

      Regarding iEagle - I like your idea - the FSD and power plant could sit on each side of the cargo hatch, but slightly more to the front, so that Optional O1s can sit behind them, one per side, so that they still have access to the cargo bay. This could all probably fit like that. The only downside would be that there would be no direct access corridor between front and back of the ship, other then through the middle of O3... which would not work very well if the contents of O3 do not leave any space for people to go through. On the other hand - this being a strictly combat oriented design - probably would be acceptable.
      Regarding thrusters volume - are you able to point me to the source of this information? From what I seen so far, the ship hull designs do not seem follow this reasoning.

    Fantastic job.
    Only one thing, i would imagine that life support and sensors would be swapped out?
    I mean, surely it'd make more sense for sensors to be in the front, and life support in the back: Sensors in the front means they can see better, life support in the back because up there in the nose seems like an awfully exposed position for something you really don't want to get shot.

    • @AnotherOne-Retro-Paladin
      @AnotherOne-Retro-Paladin 2 года назад +1

      This is a sensor module - computing, processing etc. Sensor module is not a radar. Any external antenna, or even the body of the ship are used as the radar unit. (I remember Eagle from the Elite Frontier which have a dish outside of ship, that was fun to see as well as wheeled landing gear)
      Meanwhile it's really important to have the life support near the pilot - it should protect against any hazardous environment like air loss, cosmic radiation or sudden projectile.

    The Eagle is a fighter, what's with the large crew compartment and so many cargo space? Elite Dangerous too focus on space trading could be the reason. In reality, it would utilizes more space for fuel tank, engines, hydraulic actuators, directional thrusters with the power link to fuel rail. At most, it could have just 1 small cargo space. Not to mention the required large long range sensors, communication equipment & avionics.

    • @AnotherOne-Retro-Paladin
      @AnotherOne-Retro-Paladin 2 года назад +1

      It's a ship, at first. So it should provide some basic, at least, comfort to pilot - place to rest, eat and release unneeded matter from the body. Also, there're possible activities like collecting cargo or escape pods, so the cargo hatch is necessary.

      @@AnotherOne-Retro-Paladin ask anyone with aerospace engineering background, they'll tell you the same thing as what I mentioned earlier, you don't get that much room in a real spacecraft, look at US space shuttle Columbia, imagine if it has to carry extra fuel and fitted with larger main engines, it would not have space for cargo.

    • @AnotherOne-Retro-Paladin

      @@jayjay53313 shuttles or rockets etc are used for transporting astronauts from one point to another. They're not designed for living. @@AnotherOne-Retro-Paladin check the US bombers B-52 (160ft), B-1B (136ft) & Russian bomber Tu-160 (177ft) long, how much space spent on structural frame, fuel tank, avionic, engines and weapons bay. If we had technology to build spacecraft with interplanetary & interstellar travel, the eagle will have bed bunks for crew, not luxurious bedroom & lounge coz there won't be much space left after fitting all the necessities. There might be android companion & minimal medical bay, bathroom, toilets for fighter the size of eagle, sidewinder, cobra, viper. Only larger transport & corvette class have additional space but still it won't be luxurious nor that big.

      Context helps here. It’s not a SLF. It has an FSD that can get you across the galaxy. These ships are already insanely cramped for things you’re supposed to be living out of. It’s clear that CMDRs in game/lore are meant to own one ship at a time, taking everything with them on their journey. It also has a cargo bay that massive in comparison to the ship as a whole, but we understand and accept why. It’s no different with the living space.

    My only problem with this is there are only 2 landing gear. What keeps the front from nosing down during a landing. All it would take would be 1 more landing gear toward the front on the centerline to correct this. Other than that, this looks to be about in line of FD's design vision. They want to build more than just a cockpit simulator. Otherwise there wouldn't be doors when you look around or get out of your seat and turn around when using VR.

      @@JohnUs300 The front landing gear of a lot of ships does double duty as the entry ramp. But they always have landing pads on them. Even the Eagle does, I believe. My question remains, if the landing gear is extended and the ramp is not, what keeps the ship from nosing down. I'm talking about on the Eagle. The entry ramp should have a landing pad and should automatically extend when the gear is lowered.
