  • In this video I will show you how easy it is to upgrade your dashboard/tweeter speakers on 2019 + Toyota Rav4. I will be installing Infinity Reference 3022cfx 3 1/2 inch 75W. These speakers deliver clear sound with great bass and looks great. This installation was easy, all plug and play with right connectors from Red wolf.

I have to warn owners of a late 2022 and the 2023 RAV4, non-JBL equipped models. In the new models an upgraded speaker unit is featured. Although maybe not the same quality of the JBL replacement speaker but it is an improvement nonetheless and the sound is very acceptible now. The factory speakers now have a separate tweeter. And, and this makes the replacement JBL speakers unsuitable, these new speakers have a second plug for the tweeter. So the Red Wolf wire harness is incompatible. So before ordering speakers and wire harnesses, check what kind of speakers are under the windshield!! Bye, Willem, The Netherlands.

What option does a JBL 2023 RAV4 prime have if they want to update the dash speaker?

    • @leyland9999
      @leyland9999 Год назад +5

@@tfsilvia I don’t know that. Easy to find out though, simply remove the speaker grille using a plastic (!) tool and unscrew the two bolts. See what type of connection is used. And keep in mind that you will need a wiring harness. If your car has a speaker unit with a tweeter, which I think it has, forget about the upgrade. The new speaker is quite good and an upgrade might not be worth the trouble.

@@verynick That was 3 weeks ago. Since then I returned Kappa 62is and bought 4 Rockford Fosgate P1675 for the doors. Metra 8109 is correct harness but polarity needs to be reversed. No big deal. I used very tiny screwdriver which I flattened with the file to remove those prongs and reverse them. Also P1675 have larger prongs so I had to cut the ends of the 8109 and crimp my own connectors. Also, no big deal. The sound clarity improved tremendously. Now I just got a new Rockford Fosgate P3SD4-8 Punch and am going to try to hook it up tomorrow. If it works I would have to make my own adapter to mount it. My biggest fear is that the amp will not be able to push it. If not I might have to buy a small amp. The funny part is that even without factory sub it sounds about the same but a little less bass. All distortions are gone and the dull sound is gone too.

Stop paying attention to power handling, it tells you NOTHING, looking for TRUE power handling pay attention to RMS. 25 watts RMS divided by 2 gives you 12.5 watts rms each. 2.5watts RMS over stock. Also, you are removing a TWEETER not a speaker.

You're comparing the magnet of the midrange driver of a two way coaxial speaker to a tweeter. Comparing a stamped 20W rating, granted you don't know if that's RMS or Peak, to 75W Peak power isn't a valid comparison.

I went to my local car radio place to check out the polarity. Reverse polarity does not impede music for the most part and my ears couldn't really tell apart the difference. But I think your music will sound better if you don't mix up the positive and negative wires. For my 2019 LE Rav4 gas, the shop found the wiring diagram the denotes positive and negative. *** please note this is based on 2019 RAV4 LE gas model. I have no idea if wiring changes from model to model or year to year for the Rav4. There are plenty of car radio places to double check if you're not sure. usually they don't charge very much for this work if you unscrew everything for them to inspect *****
Driver side front dash 3.5 speakers:
    -Lavender/Black wire is positive +
    -Lavender/Red wire is negative -
Passenger side front dash 3.5 speakers:
    -Lavender/Light Green is positive+
    -Lavender/Blue is negative -
The fix for reverse polarity is quite simple. Just criss-cross the 2 wires from the red wolf wiring harness.
    1. Take the RED WOLF wire harness
    2. There should be a Red and Silver wire. Red is positive and Silver is negative.
    3. Use pair of scissors or wire cutter to cut the Red and Silver wire on the wiring harness. (DO NOT CUT THE WIRING COMING OUT OF THE VEHICLE. MUCH EASIER TO CUT THE WIRING HARNESS FROM RED WOLF)
    4. strip back the insulation to reveal metal strands
    5. Connect red wire to silver wire. and vice versa to connect silver wire to red wire. you can twist the wires together from and tape it up using electrical tape. Or you can use wire quick connectors to connect.
    6. Done! you can double check your work by tracing the new 3.5 speaker's positive side to the positive side wire coming from the car. New speakers usually have a larger connector (positive) and a smaller connector (negative).
*** PS. another way you can check if you have reverse polarity (hooking up positive to negative and vice versa) is to take a look at your red wolf wiring harness (the large plastic end). And to take a look at the OEM speaker connection end. They both have a 4 pin connector set up. The red wolf wiring harness has Positive red wires on the end without plastic clip and negative black wires on the end with plastic clip. (The end with plastic clip is the part of the connector that has the little opening that secures the connector. you have to push this end to release the connection.) Now look at the OEM cheap plastic Toyota speakers you've removed, It also has that 4 pin connector identical to red wolf harness. The positive end is most likely the side with capacitor on the plastic clip opening side. If this is the positive side on the OEM, then the red wolf harness has red positive wires on the other end, thus causing reverse polarity. So not exactly plug and play anymore. ****
Let me know if anyone has questions.

@@nazarettos6987 It will work even if the wires have reversed polarity. This is why all the RUclips tutorials don't mention reverse polarity I suspect. My untrained ears couldn't tell the difference. But it's probably not ideal to mix up positive and negative wiring in a speaker. My local pro car radio technician looked up the wiring diagram for my rav4 and swapped the positive and negative in the wire harness.

in EU, on lower trims, you'll find that on the right side original speak is actually 2 speakers (or a tweeter is there) and has 2 connections there. 1 connection is for the speaker and the 2nd for the tweeter is for the SoS emergency button connected to the button on the "roof dashboard". You can still swap with new speakers like shown on the video, but you won't be able to re-connect the SoS emergency button back on (for me it's fine, don't need it anyways).

I'm on top of the world tonight, and it's all because of this video. I recently purchased a 2024 Rav4 Prime SE and was very disappointed by the car speakers - I have the six speaker non JBL. My music sounded flat. After watching the video a few times, I settled on the JBL brand, figuring it was low risk. I called Crutchfield and they recommended the JBL Club34F speakers for the front dash (75W peak, 25W RMS. They also sent the Metra Turbo cables, part 72-8110, no charge. Whatever you order, I found them excellent to deal with. It all worked, and took less than half an hour, mostly finding the right tools to pull off the speaker grills (a dull kitchen knife worked great) and loosen screws (not much room to work with). I am far from an installation genius, but this is quite do-able for an average person. The wiring was not at all complex. This video explains everything. I could not believe how pathetic the OEM speakers looked - almost like a toy.
What a difference -- the music now sounds much better, and for today, plenty good enough. Not sure if I want to take on changing out the rear door speakers, or even if it's necessary. That seems more daunting!

Yes it would work, but people say that it takes away from the overall base of the speakers if the polarity is off. After your entire upgrade processs did you notice a decrease in overall base? My understanding is that these small dash speakers can't handle the lower bass signal, hence the in-line capacitor. You might damage that newly installed speaker, especially if you really push the volume, or added an Amp to your system. I'm gonna use the Capacitor, I'm looking to keep the vehicle long-term and want this install to last.

WARNING: I have an RAV4 2023 and when I opened one of these 2 dash panels, under it there are squeezed together (near each other) on the same metal frame TWO speakers (one tweeter and one slightly bigger). I did not check if 2 pears of wires go into them (because I did not bother unscrewing them to see what is beneath them). But you should check exactly this BEFORE BUYING. Because, if you have 2 pairs of wires, then it will not work well replacing the double speakers with single speakers...
