Amazing! 🔥🔥🔥 Who keeps coming back to this in 2023?
2024!!
Im here again 2024
Larnell and matt greiner my favorite oh and ash soan and Thomas Pridgen
Can’t get enough of this
I wanted to be Omar Hakim when I was growing up! I’m 49 years old and still wanna be him growing up!...👏🏾👏🏾
Yeah that sting documentary was when I got hooked and still riding his bells and I'm 54 him and Harvey Mason just damn
buddiec41 absolutely bro, I agree 100%. There are some amazing young drummers today but not sure they will have the same impact as an Omar or Harvey, these guys are legends.
Ahh -- so it wasn't "just me" huh?
same, 52
The name of the first tune if you know dude.
This. This is the greatest musical series on RUclips. A huge thank you to Zildjian
agreed
Check out Fic first live jam session,it also great!
Fuck yes it is
I think so.
Both Meinl and Zildjian.
Omar Hakim is one of these very underrated drummers, however one of the best ever to me.
Who underrates him? He is well renowned in the music community, especially in the drummers community.
no. he is not underrated.
??? He's not underrated at all, dude. Omar's been hovering around the top of the drumming foodchain for well over three decades and any pro knows this all too well.
He is not underrated 😂
Please don't sleep on that guitar solo freaking beautiful
Omar's going to be blowing people's minds well into his 80s.
Amazing energy
The guy is a Machine. Amazing drummer.
Yes yes yes!!!! I agree!!!
Just like Gadd is doing and soon Dennis too
😊😊
Omar Hakim is one of my all time favorite drummers!
What a great drummer and humble person. A true legend!🙏🏼🙌🏼
What an absolute JOY it is to watch the wide spectrum of emotions Omar goes through while composing this piece. It's so incredible that Zildjian and Vic are providing amazing content like this to us at no cost. A huge thank you to everybody involved with these videos.
Dude, are you related to the other Baumgartner who restore damaged paintings?
ricche ryend I’m not but I have been asked that before! That and Felix Baumgartner are the two big ones people ask me about 😝
Why would people PAY to see an ad?
Amen.
I want to give your comment another thumbs up but I’m only allowed one. 👍
When you listen to Omar play drums you automatically feel good. That's how i'd describe his playing.
I’ve got all these performances on my favourites and I’m not even a drummer it’s just great music
I own drums and I occasionally hit them.. these guys are the real players 👍
When everyone plays in the style of gospel chops, i mean drumming, these old folk, who is a genius musician sounds like fresh air.
Omar hakim is a living legend!!!!
Love Omar. First heard him on Dream Of The Blue Turtles by Sting back in the 80's. Stellar player.
Omar hakim never fails to impress with his all out jamming style of fluidity, speed, and fearlessness!!
Best drum face expressions ever!!! 😂😂
I’m taking in that Sput brought over the Snarky format to this series, which is so awesome to see
I first heard Omar Hakim on Sting’s first solo album, “The Dream of the Blue Turtles.” I played my cassette over and over and over again. Sting put together an awesome band for that album: Omar Hakim-drums, Kenny Kirkland-keys, Daryl Jones-bass, Branford Marsalis-saxophones, Janice Pendarvis & Dolette McDonald-background vocals.
Omar’s use of the ride cymbal and the hi-hats were so innovative and creative. It was sooo unlike the stuff I had been listening to. There was just an absolute pocket in every song. That album was just a sample of what Hakim could do. Sting released a double-live album from the Blue Turtles tour with the same band that featured songs from his first album and songs from The Police!! But those songs were revamped in such a way that made them so fresh. That album is called “Bring On The Night” and if you’re even remotely interested in Sting, The Police, or Omar Hakim, then I highly suggest that you get it. You will not regret it. Omar is so tight yet so loose I don’t even know how to describe it. He has a lot of help from that incredible band, particularly Kenny Kirkland on keys and Branford Marsalis on tenor and soprano saxes.
I could go on but I think I’ve said plenty, and that’s just his work with Sting. I remember going out and buying Sting’s second solo album, “...Nothing Like The Sun” and being a little bummed out because Omar wasn’t on it. Instead it was a guy by the name of Manu Katche. I ended up loving that album just as much as the first one.
Cheers.
Well said
Manu is also an animal.
@@Erotified When I think of Manu I think of the word "finesse." He can slam in the pocket but I like what he does on songs like Englishman In New York and so many others on "...Nothing Like The Sun."
@@drewper73 I was using animal as just a general term for being very good.
Neil Gotcha.
This is the man who sealed the deal for me when I was 10 years old. “I’m playing the drums.” One of my all time favorites.
This Omar Hakim guy seems quite good, I’m sure he could make a living out of drumming.
Olof Nylén I'm sure you could make a living out of telling shitty jokes
Thomasgipsy 😂🤣
@@Hhhlll7778 onfn calm down😂
LOL
@@Hhhlll7778 lol and they both do
Respect to you Omar still firing but with musicality and knowing when to stay in the pocket 💯
Hes my fav drummer. I started drumming cuz of him when I saw his old videos on VHS. Thank you Omar
I'm a bass player, but Omar and Manu Katche were the first drummers that really caught my ear (other than maybe Mitch Mitchell).
it's so refreshing to see and hear Omar. Lately, young drummers would be forgiven for assuming that the gospel chop/church inspired style was all there was out there!! Plus, this dude is one of the most recorded session artists of our times. This dude doesn't just play on sessions, this guy plays on hits!
I get what you saying but alot of drummers come out of church. And I'm pretty sure he did as well
@@morrispurnell9956 It is the old school feel I miss with all lot of those guys. What they can do is astonishing at times, but it is more like drumming as field sports or martial arts, not music. Omar just sounds like he has played a lot of music. He played on that Daft Punk hit from a few summers ago for example and all he does on that is a disco beat..bam, the tune becomes a smash hit. That's what I mean.
@@takedshineov3366 His drumming on daft punk's song "Contact" is fantastic
What do you guys mean by gospel chops?
@@kbxcomix2 Eric Moore
The king of rhythm and soul music OMAR HAKIM. Keep it going brother.
The first drummer I really got into back in the 80s when I started playing andcstill one of my absolute favourites. The most versatile of them all and a true musician who happens to play the drums. Those who try to turn drumming into an Olympic sport, please take note. Thank you Omar.
Matt Bennett Well put Matt. It’s not about all the acrobatics. However, drummers like Weckl, Colaiuta, Chambers, and Larnell Lewis are some of my all-time favorites. It’s about knowing when to do a triple somersault off the balance beam and when not to.
Truly a Legend in the drumming community! Kudos to you sir Omar Hakim! Not to mentiion Jonathan Mones' awesone sax solo!!!
The sax solo is really unbelievable
That drum kit sounds like the best angels from heaven assembled it !!
Well Omar does take hours and hours to fine tune his kits…very important to him.
Omar H.
Isn't he a legend now !?
Omar hakim is 1 of my favorite drummers. Definitely legendary 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
That introduction was so 70's announcer's style. Love Omar Hakim's style, pocket, attitude, since 1991 at the Guitar Center drum Dept. playing his Zildjian VHS tapes I was captivated. 🤙
One of the Greatest of All Time! Omar! You are amazing!
Best part is his speech at the end. The humility of this man!
I’ve been looking at this series on RUclips and one thing stands out. Ghost-Note is TIGHT!
We as drummers have a lot to learn from Omar and his attitude towards music.I am big fun since the 90s.
Long time has been passing, but Omar is still Omar. What incredible groove, taste, feel, ideas and touch. He's been my favorite drummer since 1982 when I first saw him in Weather Report.
Omar Hakim it's amazing drummer and musician! Thank you @zildjianlive for inviting him!!!!
Saw Omar at a drum clinic years ago, nicest guy in the world and the man does NOT age! One of the best right here.
Oh Yes give the Alto some !!!!! I cried So beautiful Thanks to all!! I'm uplifted
Omar is one bad drummer he’s been around for a long time and he still sounds so so fresh today as he did 30 years! You all are listening to so much history when you listen to him.
Blessings to you Omar
one of my favourite drummers....
what he did/the energy he had with weather report was unbelievable....
I totally forgot how tasteful this man is...what a musical genius...he pushes, pulls, attacks, retracts, swings and relaxes....I'm so glad I listened to this on a pair of well tuned YAMAHA HS80s in a treated room....the tuning of those drums....and then there's the arrangement-the underlying movements ..... TOTAL OVERLOAD 🇹🇹🔥...Twas like a journey in time....brought to mind some of my early cont jazz listening....Yellowjackets, Rippingtons, Koinonia...sigh...soooo muchhhh in here. Came back to add...then there's the way he brings in each section
There is no greater freedom than in this music….bravo Hakim!
Omar Hakim is one of those drummer you watch and say, I hope I can continue to enjoy playing at that age like he does!!
Absolutely astounding and amazing! Does the brand ZILDJIAN JUSTICE BABY! A true player! And K as well and any other ZILDJIAN
Found Omar on RUclips.
Incredible talent!
Here's a PRIME example of successfully riding the RUclips Tidal 🌊 wave surf!!! The 🥁 drumsticks literally disappear right before your 👀, are you kidding me? Shades of Billy Cobham, Buddy Miles, Buddy Rich, Sonny Emory, Adam Deitch; the ability to perform 128th rolling riffs is possessed by only the exospheric elite of drummers, Spectacular Countdown Conclusion in a SMOOTH JAZZ 🎵 Funk ending 👏👏👏🏆🏆🏆!!!!
Toms so glassy and smooth, they are like the brownstone stoop on a cool late summer's evening where everyone is welcome and there's nothing but smiles.
That's poetry 👍
S/O to Omar Hakim, been a fan for years, and Mono Neon, dope bassist, and the rest of these talented artists.
Thank you Omar Hakim. OG!!!
What an honourable and genuine man not to even mention a supreme talent.
I just discovered this drummer today, amazing
You discovered his name, but you have been listening to him for years without knowing it! Daft Punk's Get Lucky...that's Omar. All those early Madonna hits, Omar again. The man has played on countless songs. He's played on more hits than I have had hot dinners!
This is my favorite drummer of all drummers
Omar, Robert Searight, and Mononeon are my top influences for years. Their music is somewhere in the universe.
Fell in love with this brother 30 some years ago when I discovered the Sunday Night Jazz Show. Who doesn't Love Omar?
Our Hakim is so amazing. I loved him on David Sanborn's show back in the 80s. He is amazing!
Yo! I love this song from Omar! I heard him as a kid play this song at a clinic. And I never got the name of it! Nostalgia from it!
Wow Mono Neon and Omar Hakim!!!
A perfect fit!
Oh Man!!!!! I just saw Omar at South Restaurant & Jazz Club in Philadelphia w/Omar, Gerald Vesely & Rachel Zee (and a unknown sax player-forgive me) and they were playing a Tribute to Weather Report.
Omar Hakim was Incredible, humble, loving and signed autographs for me.
God Bless & keep him is my Prayer 🙏🏼
Omar hakim came from outer space !! Genius .. how musical he is ..
you will never see such a well true pro drummer as him in all gen music / he studies every day and still says we all still learn every day . well done love to see him play every time great pocket drummer groove , he has got the lot
Omar Hakim was huge inspiration to me as a young player. Great to witness him in this context with a level of documented detail that allows us to appreciate his artistry and active engagement in the music. Still killin after 50 years! Congrats!!! Kudos to the players and the production crew. Thank you.
Omar continues to be "The Truth"!! I had the pleasure of meeting him and him playing my humble kit and sparking it to greatness! God lives
in you!
Marvin McQuitty would definitely be on here. RIH sir Marv
Oh man, that would’ve been a treat!!!
Back in the 80's I had a poster of Omar with a gorgeous bright blue Pearl kit. It was my absolute dream kit. That color was exceptional. Omar has played on so many albums and hit songs that so many ppl don't know about. Unless you're a drummer I guess. Thank you Omar for so many amazing years.
It's a privilege to see this footage of Omar Hakim! Absolute legend - a musician, technician and the emotion!!
That was off the hook!!!!! Outstanding
amazing groove and phrase
legend.
Awesome job
Sir Omar and Zildjian!
Let’s also appreciate Michael League and Snarky Puppy for bringing this trend of live performances back into the scene...after watching all the VF jams and Zildjian Live And seeing people like Ghost Note and Sput also doing his thing... i think it’s good to acknowledge Mike and his works too.
Of course Mike wasn’t the first , there are other great musicians like Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour that had such live studio performances in front of live audiences. But Mike and SP brought it back very strongly to this generation.
Thanks Michael.
Love Snarky Puppy and their crew!!:-)
My goodness!!! Omar Hakim is a human metronome. I enjoyed listening to this! The chemistry between Omar and the rest of the band is simply awesome. I love that base guitar player. Thank you Zildjian!
They bought a legend in thanks zildjian. Happy 50th mr hakim.
Greetings from over the pond in the UK.These events are just phenomenal,I have watched all of them over and over and am in awe of the incredible musicianship on display here. Please keep em coming and a huge thank you to the Zildjian Company.
I've always enjoyed Omar's Command of the beat! HE will let the groove know where the 1 is!
A true legend and sooo humble! The best usually are.
Eeehhh what a melody 😮 And I look at Mr Omar who follows the chorus of the saxophone with precision. 🎉 Looks like they're summoning angels from heaven 😇. Thanks zildjian🙏
Pure Bliss, Ghost note guys, you rock!!!!!
Zildjian Live! concerts are the best thing to ever hit RUclips.
Thanks Zildjian live and thanks Mr Omar Hakim.
Living legend. Loved this performance!
The content on Zildjian LIVE! is INCREDIBLE. I can listen to it all day long.
Fantastic every time I watch it. Those are some bright and shiny cymbals!
An legend, amazing human being, humble gentleman and monstrous drummer.
Wow, he made that look so easy!!! I would love to play music with you guys. All of you are AWSOME musicians.
👍🙂👍
LOVE listening to and watching Mr. Omar Hakim!!!!
Love Omar! One of my all time drum heroes
Excellent job by the performer, engineers and Zildjian on that cymbal sound! Wowzers! Squeaky clean and dynamic! Incredible
wow, this is my favorite of this great serie
how can someone not like this. this is great
its not, the mix is bad .the piece of music goes no where, i much prefer his other normal performances
The housebound doesn’t get enough credit. Those musicians are extraordinary. Their own solos are on par with the performance of the guests. I’m glad I found this channel
Great playing and production!
I was smiling so much the whole time. What a great player and performance
It's simply joy, joy, joy to watch and hear Omar playing.
darnnn ! this legend still rocks !
Without question the best of the best!! And like the BEST usually does, they make it look easy.. thank you to everyone responsible here especially Zildjian ...
The best of the best of the best, Sir!
Such amazing an skilled musicians! An inspiration to watch and listen to! Thanks to Zildjian! 🤘🤘
le vecchie generazioni che suonavano moltissimo dal vivo hanno una marcia in più delle nuove che fanno musica da box
One of my all time favorite drummers. Major influence for me.
So good, I had to rewatch it once more
this dude is so humble
I had the opportunity to meet him when I was working at MANNY'S MUSIC on w.48th (NYC) in the 80's , I did stock work so I had to get him 2 types of cymbals that he uses and when I did come to the counter with them I mistakenly stepped on his foot ( for the bass drum) and man he gave me a look like he was going to kick my ass til' I quickly apologized then he smiled at me and gave me an autograph ! TRUE story! ☝️😎
