I lived in Dresden when I was younger and learned Hochdeutsch from my teachers, but my friends taught me Sächsisch! So once I came back to the States and went to college to start my German degree, I noticed how different I sounded from my professor from Bayern. I’ll always have my Sächsisch accent/dialect!
Bavaria is big. In some small part around "Ludscht" (Ludwigstadt), Bavarians speak a Saxonian dialect. This is because lots of miners and diggers from Saxonia came in that area. It is also the only Bavarian community north of the so called "Rennsteig", which devides the creeks to Elbe from that running to Main, but also the sound of Franconia from Thuringa, where the latter is closer to Saxonian dialect. On the other hand there are some villages in Thuringa and Saxonia, where people speak a Franconian dialect.

It is not the same as Lower Saxon (Niedersägsisch)which is the form of low German (Plattdeutsch)descended from the language of the Saxons who stayed behind in northern Germany and southern Denmark and did not cross the North Sea to Britain with Angles friesians and Jutes It is a very different language and in a very different region than what you are hearing in this video. So, these parallels that you are hearing are just regular German parallels. They don’t really indicate any close connection with English or English’s forebears.
Ich lebte 6 Jahre in Leipzig und Dresden. Das war echt eine schöne Zeit. Mit dem sächsischen Dialekt habe ich kaum Schwierigkeiten gehabt. Seit ca. 3 Jahren lebe ich in Schleswig-Holstein. Dialekte machen jede Sprache schwieriger aber auch reicher.
@@jandamskier6510 To be fair though, Standard German is based on dialect of Martin Luther (the man who first translated the Bible into German). He translated into his own dialect which was one of the Upper Saxony dialects, which the Dresden dialect falls under.
@@sophiacarney7258 Dublin accent is more like older Middle English than Gaelic accent wise, if you look up recreations. It's very 'Germanic', which is why this observation is so great. (for more Gaelic accent look up the traditional/strong Kerry, Cork and Mayo accents)
As a German having done military service in Sachsen, this video triggered PTSD = Post Traumatic Sachsen Disorder because I could barely understand the commands of my supervisors for the first week. Especially the way times are mentioned: "Fünf vor Dreiviertel Zwölf" = five to quarter to twelve = 11:40

Wow! That was very interesting. I didn't realize that Saxony had a different dialect. When I visited Dresden a couple of years ago I didn't experience that but that's probably because the people I spoke with could tell I was a foreigner.
"Halt do mal die Gusche" sounds similar to my local dialect (Geordie spoken in Newcastle, England). We say "had ye gob" (basically, hold your mouth/shut up). We have some Frisian and old norse vocabulary :)

Mega geiles Video! Ich finde es schade, dass nicht so viele Leute, insbesondere junge Leute, noch Dialekt sprechen können. Ich studiere jetzt in Leipzig, und habe einige Leute, die aus Dresden oder so in der Nähe kommen, kennengelernt. Sie meinen, dass Sächsisch für sie peinlich, oder mindestens lustig klingt, deswegen gefällt ihnen der Dialekt nicht, aber ich bin der Meinung, dass jeder Dialekt eine Besonderheit und Eigenart hat.
Klar, Dialekt sprechen zu können ist super, schwierig wird es, wenn man kein Hochdeutsch kann. Ich habe beispielsweise einen Bekannten aus Sachsen, dieser kann überhaupt kein Hochdeutsch, das geht so weit, dass man ihn vor allem am Telefon kaum verstehen kann. Wenn man in ein anderes Bundesland zieht, um dort zu studieren oder zu arbeiten, kann das unter Umständen zu Problemen führen. Abgesehen davon polarisiert gerade sächsisch sehr. Durch die dortige politische Landschaft liegt über Sachsen ein (zu Teilen begründetes) Stigma, mit dem sich viele junge Menschen nicht identifizieren können. Natürlich hat der Dialekt an sich nichts damit zutun. Aber bei Menschen aus Bayern, Österreich und der Schweiz gibt es dieses Stigma nicht in dieser Ausprägung.
Auf Spanisch wir sagen: "se juntaron el hambre y las ganas de comer". Das bedeutet, that *hunger* and the *wish to be eating* got together. 😊 My two favourite German ladies got together, und das ist super! Danke!

This is awesome. According to my grandad, when my great grandads brothers used to come over and drink beer they would slip into platzdeutsch. Great grandma only spoke hochdeutsch and wouldn't understand a word they said. Drove her crazy. LOL This would be 1915 or so in Minnesota. They immigrated in the 1890s from Germany.
I feel like people who speak this dialect is friendlier and more welcoming. The Saxon dialect also sounds like people have passion and love living life. My mother language is Spanish, and with Saxon I heard heartwarming words. Well, it's just my opinion I know Spanish and German are from two language families (don't start the hate) I just feel that that passion is what this accent has with Spanish (Mexican) in common. Going back to my German class with a couple of the words a caught from this video.

Ich bin zwar Ukrainer, lebe aber schon seit langem in Sachsen weswegen mir meine Freunde auch Sächsisch beigebracht haben. Und ich habe gefühlt alle Anjas Sätze verstanden. Aber manchmal rede ich sächsisch (z.B. wenn ich anstatt von überall einfach ieberrall sage)
Saxon is the brother of danish,dutch and frisian and english. Many sounds,words,fonetics are familiar to me. Reminds me other brothers germanic idioms.
Should be aware that what's being called the "Saxon" dialect here is probably not the Saxon you're thinking of. The real Saxon language is called "Low German" or "Plattdeutsch" in German, and also "Low Saxon" or "Niedersächsisch". There was some historical politics shenanigans and the name Saxony got moved over to a different ethnic group in Germany, it would be like if Massachusetts were suddenly renamed to Texas and people started thinking Boston English is the true Texan dialect.

When you listen closely to low German and Frisian you can clearly here where the English accents come from. It’s all so interesting.

I feel like people who speak this dialect is friendlier and more welcoming. The Saxon dialect also sounds like people have passion and love living life.
My mother language is Spanish, and with Saxon I heard heartwarming words. Well, it's just my opinion
I know Spanish and German are from two language families (don't start the hate) I just feel that that passion is what this accent has with Spanish (Mexican) in common.

Ich bin zwar Ukrainer, lebe aber schon seit langem in Sachsen weswegen mir meine Freunde auch Sächsisch beigebracht haben. Und ich habe gefühlt alle Anjas Sätze verstanden. Aber manchmal rede ich sächsisch (z.B. wenn ich anstatt von überall einfach ieberrall sage)

Saxon is the brother of danish,dutch and frisian and english. Many sounds,words,fonetics are familiar to me. Reminds me other brothers germanic idioms.
Should be aware that what's being called the "Saxon" dialect here is probably not the Saxon you're thinking of. The real Saxon language is called "Low German" or "Plattdeutsch" in German, and also "Low Saxon" or "Niedersächsisch". There was some historical politics shenanigans and the name Saxony got moved over to a different ethnic group in Germany, it would be like if Massachusetts were suddenly renamed to Texas and people started thinking Boston English is the true Texan dialect.
