Hey Alanah. I don't have a question. Just wanted to say thanks for Idiots and A Broad. It was the highlight of most of my months this year (and last) and I was pretty sad to hear its ending. Going back now and rewatching from episode 1 and its still so good. Thanks!
Super glad about the migraines being gone, hoping everything else clears up fast! Really liked the vibe of this video with the dyeing happening throughout.
Hey Alanah! On the recent podcast with SkillUp, Jake, and YongYea, you admitted you did not know Powerwash Simulator had a toggle on button to spray the water. I also did not know until hearing this, and now my hands don’t cramp up after cleaning a level for 3 hours. Thank you so much 😂
thank you for sharing about your surgery, and making vulnerability / sincerity 'normal'. glad to hear your path to healing seems a bit clearer. Good luck, and best wishes for an uninterrupted course for the remainder
Great news. The problem is being corrected. Good call on the staph infection. Amazing what progress occurs when the right treatment is applied. So glad you are improving and still no migraines. YAY. Hey, everybody needs a sexy scar, right? And I greatly approve and appreciate this new content. That is one interesting process.
So, I just read The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas. That's gonna live in my head now. I'm still considering the themes and meaning. It's super well written and worth reading for sure. Thanks, Alanah.
I love the Omelas short story, so glad you brought it up! And speaking of Ursula K. Le Guin, her Earthsea series is one of my favorites, I've bought A Wizard of Earthsea for so many friends since it's an excellent classic fantasy book without being a gargantuan doorstopper.
I was excited to hear you express appreciation for The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas. That then begs the question: would you walk away from Omelas? Ursala K. LeGuin is fantastic and I absolutely recommend The Dispossessed. Your main channel is wonderful and I'm really enjoying this new channel. Thanks!
I am glad you have been recovering from your surgery . I have migranes from light sensivity but not as severe as the ones you had before surgery. I have prescription lenses that block the blue light that helps a lot. I have watched you since IGN and I only wish you the best on your career.
i'm so glad you got a second opinion and found out the truth about what was going on. i'd be terrified about having a staph infection on my head and that close to my brain and to my eye and just. . . all the important things.
loving these new videos. glad you're still healing. i almost lost a finger to an infection from a splinter years ago and absolutely hate The thought of people dealing with them now. keep in keeping on gurrllll!
Hey I recommend you listen to Normandie. Their songs are post-hardcore (or at least that’s how Spotify classifies them) and they’re my fav band atm! Hope everything goes well with your recovery 👍🏻
I'm very happy to hear that your wound is healing up. As far as a scar. Don't worry about it. It will get smaller in time. Also, I hope you don't mind me saying this, but in my opinion, you are a very pretty woman, and a small scar will not take away from that. Your headaches are gone, and that's what's most important. Good luck, and God bless. 🙏🙏
As someone who read “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas” based on the last time you recommended it and was also really impacted by it, I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts on it and how it specifically has affected your life
Well shit It was a staph infection, but it seems like you've already went through the worst of it. Glad you're recovering well, hopefully this is truly the last of the surgery saga. I'm happy that its worked out (so far) and that hopefully for the rest of your life you will never get another migraine. If I am understanding the video format correctly I should ask my question now. Question: I've been following you since your early IGN days and I know you're a very hard worker. However, how often do you take out time to do some heavy gameplay sessions? I'm talkin' 6-10 hours of non-stop gaming with some of your favorite titles/new releases that you're into?
Thanks for the update. Hope everything goes smoothly with your head from now on. I had no idea hair could get so oily it would need to be bleached. I’m pretty new to your content and enjoy it very much. Keep up the great work!
I'm relieved you're getting better finally! When I searched "Post Hardcore", the only band I'd actually listened to was Helmet. I'll DL a couple playlists now (looong drive!) Thank you!
amazing. the last time i bleached my regrowth... was a disaster... and you're just casually doing it like a pro whilst answering questions. glad the head is doing better. yay!
The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas pops into my mind all the time still too, had to read it in a class over 15 years ago and it left a lasting impression.
Alanah glad to hear your doing better. Can you tell us more about why you decided to foster and how it’s going for you, positives and challenges that come with it. Thanks for the great content.
Hey, sending good vibes your way! More doggo the better! Glad to see you on the up and up from your surgery. My question is: What would be your favorite N64 (or relative era) game? Also, more squeaky dog toy sounds = awesome
Acetic acid, the active ingredient in vinegar has potent antibacterial/antifungal/antiprotozal activity. It was used alot decades ago, from concentrations of 2% for external ear infections down to 1/4 % for washing wounds and vaginal douches.
I'm sorry that things ended the way that did with "Idiots & A Broad". You three are very entertaining together and I look forward to seeing whatever you choose to put out together.
Hey Alanah, gaming channel subscriber here and a future game writer, hopefully. You'd be surprised how many gaming channel followers also watch your IRL channel. You usually make content because you have something to say, not just for the sake of content. And although it's not exactly quantifiable (sorry for sounding corporate) you always bring value to the conversation, whatever it may be. You have a very healthy outlook on life i general and I believe you serve as an inspiration to many people out there (male, female or other) whether you intended to or not. So just keep being yourself. Hopefully, one day not too far in the future, we will be colleagues in the video games industry. 🤞
I don't read much but I did read the ones who walk away from omelas from your recommendation on a PWL episode and loved it, definitely recommend it to everyone else. also, big shame about Idiots and a broad, still hurts. Glad everything is better with your surgery tho!
I'm very interested in this inner monologue stuff, it sounds like such a dramatic difference in some of the ways people think. My impression was that most people DO have one. I don't, I think in concepts like you, only hear a voice if I'm rehearsing or if I'm replaying music or a conversation in my head. I'm on the autism spectrum too, but I know for certain that many people on the autism spectrum do have an inner monologue. Still, I wonder if there's any connection at all. I re-wrote this comment because it got auto-deleted when I tried adding a link to my comment which I thought people would find interesting. A Reddit thread discussing this, overwhelming majority found the lack of an inner monologue to be very odd, even unsettling. Guess you'll have to take my word for it.
I was unaware you had to apply to things like Forbes 30 under 30, I just kind of assumed they had people that were keeping track of individuals who might qualify. (Though actually thinking about it, that would be difficult to do) Seems like your manager is doing some good work for you. And congratulations on making it, it's a pretty cool accomplishment.
I really like the cutt you gave to your bangs. I graduated HS in 2003 and Thrice has always been one of my fav bands and I've been revisiting all that genre lately. Lots of good memories. Wishing you all the best health. I had a bit of a scare upon a visit with my Dr. Found two blood clots in my left leg. It's getting taken care of. I'm actually getting a hair cut today and might dye my hair platinum with the fo hawk I'm rocking. Have a great day and see you in the next vid 😀
Have you ever had the Chance to see ADTR live? They are one of my wife’s favorite bands, and we saw them live not too long ago, and it was AMAZING. Definitely super high energy and crazy.
This was interesting, both from answering the questions and watching the hair dye process (as a dad who has had to dye my daughters' hair multiple times)
Hey Alanah! I'm glad your recovery seems to be getting better and better now... especially since migraines are a thing of the past now! Gotta say though, never seen anyone look so good pos surgery, bleaching their hair! Hahaha! Congrats! 😂🥰
The duality of my reaction to this video is making me chuckle - I paused to go off and read 'The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas' (great read, I sat in my thoughts for a while) but then ended the vid being melodramatically KO'd that there was no finished hair reveal. It is like one of those dating shows where you don't get an update on the couple at the end.
I am glad you are doing better. Definitely trust your instincts with your own health. Last month an Irish youtuber DBG nearly died. He had swelling after Achilles surgery. He asked to be checked for a blood clot which is a risk after that surgery. His doctor refused and told him he was just being too active. Fast forward to he had to go to the emergency room and almost died from a blood clot. He was lucky to survive at that point for something that could have been treated sooner.
I thought it was neat that the author of The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas came up with the name Omelas when seeing a sign for Salem, Oregon in their car rearview mirror. Also, the Outsider from the Dishonored game series is inspired by this story.
As young as you are that scare will simply be a memory baby girl I'm thinking 1or 2 years tops!!! I'm just looking at you and becoming extremely jealous of your cute little girl face!!! Glad to hear you're doing better!! We need more pretty girls in this world!!!!
Ooo didn't know you were into the screamy music. Years ago my Aussie mate introduced me to Ocean Grove, an Aussie post-hardcore/nu-metal/weird band who've been one of my faves since. Their entire Rhapsody Tapes album is great, but Intimate Alien and These Boys Light Fires are two of my faves. Anyway, glad your face is healing and the migraines are still gone.
Whoa, another DGD fan! I know so few, and easily by favourite band. So disappointing that the currently lineup is probably over with Tillian needing to stepping away.
@@AlanahIRL And their bassist passed away earlier this year. New Album was already done before all this happened, (came out on this Friday icymi) and it's a banger.
Once the wound closes you should use vitamin e oil on it to lessen the appearance of any scar tissue that builds up. It will soften it and make it smaller.
About oily hair: I know this doesn't work for everyone, but washing it less helps. Also less/no shampoo. Idk what science says on the topic, I can just say from my personal experience that it helped my hair. Slightly less than once a week is ideal for me.
You should try arrowroot powder in your hair to stop the oiliness, that's what I do, I have super oily Italian hair and used to have to wash it daily, now I can go up to an entire week without shampooing it, it was a lifesaver. It's also non-hazardous to breathe in unless talcum/ baby powder. It would be even better for you since you have light blonde hair, I have dark brown hair.
This might be a gaming question and also kinda a personal question but since GOW:R is announced what does that mean for you as a writer? Like what happens when a game is done? You have another game you started writing or is it like a limbo period waiting for the next thing to come up like DLC? You have more free time?
Yeeeees, Dance Gavin Dance actually just released a new album and it's got some bangers! Also really sad about Idiots and a broad being cancelled it was an incredibly funny podcast. One of my favorites
Hi, in case the surgeon forgot to mention, most scars can be got rid of using a good quality 0.5mm dermaroller. Over time, and careful application, they can disappear. Of course, the weather conditions these days make a timely heal very hard. Thankyou for sharing your experience.
Unfortunately the issue is more that the surgeries removed my hair follicles so my hairline is warped - I'm sure the actual scar will disappear just fine.
I 100% still listen to my fave high school bands. I love all kinds of genres. All the bands you named are great. I more recently (past couple years) got into Motionless in White and Ice Nine Kills. Idk how I didn't get into them earlier, cause they're amazing 💜⚡️
honest to god had a moment where I was thinking "how the hell am I going to find something called 'those who walk away from omelets' and not get a bunch of weird breakfast blogs?" Thankfully, 'those who walk away from Omelas' is the first hit, practically no matter how you spell it. Good story, can see why it has stuck with you. I haven't read any other UKLG, but I might have to check out some more after that.
Thank you whoever asked the hair question! I have always thought Alanah has perfect hair so I've been wanting to know so bad how she upkeeps it. Of course all hair types are different and not one thing is gonna work for everyone but I've been trying to grow my hair out and the ends are badly damaged because they keep knotting and breaking and bending, like folding even. I was suggested to try a Brazilian blowout by someone which heats a keratin based solution into the hair which will help smooth and straighten it? Idk.
@@AlanahIRL ah man I was afraid you were gonna say that cuz I've been growing it out since COVID had everything shut down during the quarantine period. After things were opening back up I just continued to not go to the beauty salon and instead bought some hair promoting gummies (Olly) and keratin shampoo but my ends just love twisting and tangling that I can't run my fingers through it without getting stuck lol. I've also been thinking of a really good question to ask you as well and I'm hoping maybe you could answer it in the next Alanah IRL? The question is, "'what made you want to become a writer?' I remember you telling your audience several times in the past that you rose to popularity during your time at IGN but you had to leave them because they did not enable your writing skills to it's fullest potentials and maybe perhaps squandered your talents as a journalist".
I think you need to not go to that doctor again. I feel like they messed up a lot on your post surgery care 🤦🏻♀️ I’m glad it’s starting to heal for you now! 💕
Getting that second opinion was smart! At worst you lose a little time (and maybe $) by seeking it. At worst by not seeking it - well, who knows where that could have been. Even just for the peace of mind, it's worth it. And I got to see how hair bleaching works in the progress. I feel educated.
Glad to hear you are getting better! To be entirely honest, I am glad the surgery worked when it comes to your migraines. But the surgeon, looking at the entire story, looks like a total disaster and I would stay away from him as much as possible. He created the first infection in the first place, had to take very invasive measures on it and managed to leave you with another infection later, which he later totally misdiagnosed. He is either incompetent or dishonest, as someone trying to cover up his mess by minimizing it at the expenses of timely, proper treatment for you.
I suspect I was lied to to prevent investigation. The Urgent Care nurse said this isn’t super uncommon, because if a surgeon confirms they have someone staph they have to shut shit down to clean everything, thus losing money.
Head to keeps.com/alanahpearce to get 50% off your first order of hair loss treatment.
Trust me, most of us on the gaming channel would have stuck through this weird shit, hahahaha. Goodluck with the Staf!!!!
glad you're feeling better!

the short story she mentions is "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas" by Ursula K Le Guin -- it's influenced a *lot* of other stories
It also influenced a recent Star Trek episode, even though it didn't do it justice
A quick google search will bring it up pretty easily, for anyone interested.
It's a pretty powerful read. Thanks for mentioning it, Alanah.

Cool video talk tech alanah
honest to god had a moment where I was thinking "how the hell am I going to find something called 'those who walk away from omelets' and not get a bunch of weird breakfast blogs?" Thankfully, 'those who walk away from Omelas' is the first hit, practically no matter how you spell it. Good story, can see why it has stuck with you. I haven't read any other UKLG, but I might have to check out some more after that.
Love them all from the post hard-core genre. My roommate once from awhile back put me on to them.
Idk.
Definitely just cut it
@@AlanahIRL ah man I was afraid you were gonna say that cuz I've been growing it out since COVID had everything shut down during the quarantine period.
