I think viewers are interested in this partly because of curiosity, but also because we actually care about your wellbeing. The wound _looked_ a lot less scary than I expected, but it sure doesn't seem like any fun to have to deal with. I hope it is resolved soon, and that you get good news on your doctor's appointment.
I have seen MRSA skin infections more often than I would have liked to. In most cases If it was MRSA and had been from the surgery revision session it would have progressed much faster than 3 weeks. Since the body has a hard time fighting MRSA it moves quickly. Also the area would be far more painful from swelling caused by the fluid build-up as a body tries to counteract the damage from poisons that bacteria produce from their life processes. It would be much warmer to the touch and a mid to dark pink color. It could be a non-MRSA staph infection. Staph is on our skin regularly and especially bothersome without the chance to wash your hair and scalp. Sometimes it gets within the hair follicle and trapped and then the body sends the white blood cells and fluid to the area to fight and flush it. Oral antibiotics first need to get from digestion to the blood stream and then to the area of infection. The wound culture will give the proper typing of the bacteria within a day or two. If you are already being treated with a combination of 2 broad- spectrum antibiotics covering both gram+ and gram- bacteria then you are as far along as you can be before they know the exact bacteria leading to the drainage. Once they type the bacteria they can determine if the antibiotic you already have been taking is a match or if they need to stop the original ones and start a different one. Though MRSA is scary most cases are resistant to only a few of the collection of antibiotics that are available. In the cases I have knowledge of there were 15 possible antibiotic options and the bacteria were only resistant to 2-3 of the options. The infections responded to 1 of the lesser strength options. That left around 7 further tiers / options that could escalate in strength if the first course had not been successful. Part of the good news is that it is draining. In some cases the bacteria gets trapped under the skin or inside an area as an abscess. Those cases are more serious since the material has nowhere to go and the building pressure can force the fluid into places it should not be. It sounds like you are already being careful to not allow the drainage to spread infected fluid to other areas. I wish you the best for the appointment and treatment. It is good to hear that the migraines have ceased.
god d--- though, how on Earth do you take an antibiotic in this day and age and f---in relax. I'll admit when she said they gave her more antibiotics my head kind of sank; I would prefer for Alanah to *not* die from a resistant strain, and I can't speak to her quality of care but I can vouch from experience that most American medicine is pretty terrible, let alone the financial burdens unduly placed on Pts. medicine in this country, especially primary care, is more about efficiency and number of visits than it is the quality of the visit... if you have a "doctor" as a primary care physician, it's likely you don't ever see them. My "doctor" for the past 15 years has been my actual doctor's Nurse Practitioner... I think I met the actual guy once.
First off, get well soon Alanah. Secondly, my wife had surgery several years ago on her broken ankle/leg. She ended up with a 2 year ordeal of constant infection, hospitalized several times at the begining of covid, a total of six surgeries in and a fused ankle by the end. Hospitals are nowhere near as safe as we expect them to be. Take care and get well.
"Human bodies are weird and gross and complicated, I'm alright with it." is definitely the quote of the month. I really hope the docs can give you good news at the appointment and that this whole thing clears up soon. Thanks for the update.
I had a bad experience with a surgery I had in 2019. I had my gallbladder removed but ended up having to have open abdominal surgery due to complications. From the open surgery, I got a bad lung infection which lengthened recovery. Then when I did recover, I got a hernia at the site of the surgery scar, which I had to have repaired in January 2021. Now in July 2022, the hernia looks to have reoccurred but because of work commitments, I won’t have time to get it sorted until 2023. So I share your frustrations!
@@seamsungg The line doctors always give is that every procedure comes with a risk. For instance, the gallbladder removal come with a 10% risk that they could damage my liver. Thankfully that didn’t happen. But I’m left questioning if my original gallbladder issues were really worth the trouble of what will be 4 surgeries in 4 years when I get the second hernia repaired.
@@mattjcont It is my unqualified but honest opinion and belief that many such complications stem from the surgeon not doing the proper job than actual unavoidable complications itself.
"Human bodies are weird and gross and complicated. I'm alright with it." I'm usually NOT alright with it, god can I not handle the weirdness of human bodies. But you have a way of putting me at ease, you have a good attitude about this, as always. I admire that level head of yours, migraine free now too!
I go through so many ups and downs with treatments, even 6 years after cancer (where I was given two weeks to live). And it’s never easy, but I’m around and making the most of it. I hope things get better for you soon Alanah. Always love these open and honest videos 💜
Hope it’s not MRSA or if it is that’s it’s not the hospital acquired variety which is most resistant. Good luck and keep us posted! You can also say MRSA as “Mersa”
I've suffered from migraines since I was 9. This month has been awful, I had one for 6 days from new years eve, and I've just got over a continuous one for 8 days. It's the longest one I've ever had. I'm on the waiting list for botox at the moment which is a migraine treatment option, I'm glad you've managed to find relief from the pain.
Hi Alanah! So sorry to hear you are having a bad time with the recovery from surgery! I wish you a speedy and safe recovery! Take care and stay safe! 👍😎
Rooting for your skin and hair to get through this sooner rather than later. :) On a more serious note, I hope your doctor(s) can quickly come up with a confirmed diagnosis and course of action. In these cases of unexpected complications, the mental side can often be as much of a burden on ones health as the physical side, as your worries about MRSA clearly show. Very recognizable honestly. Get well soon!
Speaking from experience, the antiobiotics may possibly be making you sick. I've had to take antibiotics numerous times and have often been made very sick by the antibiotics. That said, I think your concern over staph infection is also quite valid and worth asking your doctor about. Staph infections can be extremely serious and life threatening, they are never to be dismissed lightly.
If the antibiotics are making you sick then typically means you are on a strong dose. Anti-biotics won't cause a cough or fever though typically it will cause you stomach issues.

Well, like another commenter said, it's possible that the feeling sick is because of the body fighting off whatever is going on in the wound, the local infection, rather than a systemic infection. I wouldn't know, I'm not a medical professional, but we can always hope for the best case scenario.

Really glad you're managing to stay upbeat about everything. I know how hard it can be when it's one thing after another after another. Your hair looks amazing by the way.
That's a hell of a thing, getting something like this, and I can commiserate. I was born needing a pacemaker, and ended up getting a super slow infection during surgery in high school. It didn't break the surface for 3 YEARS, and I almost didn't make it. But it worked out, and here I am nearly a decade later. So here's to you Alanah, because if I can make it through that, you're gonna crush this, even if it might take a bit of time. It feels weird liking a bad update. Sorry it’s been such a rocky recovery. Hopefully once it’s all sorted it will be worth it. I find it interesting you said you’re doing things differently now. For the majority of my life I’ve said “I can’t do X because it will cause muscle cramps or migraines.” I went from being a very physical person when I was younger to always being at home. For me the worst part isn’t even the pain/disorienting effects. It’s the anxiety of not knowing when they’ll hit next.
I am glad to hear the surgery helped with the migraines. As someone who's had to deal with occasional migraines, nowhere near as severe as you described, but still debilitating, I feel can empathize to some extent with your situation. I'm sorry to hear about the complications, but maintain hope that with appropriate aftercare you will be able to overcome them and come out the other side better than going in. Personally, I appreciate these updates because, like others have said, I care about your wellbeing. Your professionalism, work ethic and drive have been an inspiration and a source of motivation to work towards improving my own situation. The content you have created has been not only entertaining, but educational and inspirational. I am looking forward to seeing, reading and/or playing your future work, and maybe even to reading some of your writing in the future if you choose to publish. Stay safe and stay strong.
The title had me worried that you'd gotten a migraine but I"m glad that isn't the case. It's great to see your excitement for not having to hold back and plan around the them anymore. Still sorry to hear the recovery isn't the smoothest. Whatever it turns out to be, I hope you get (and take) the time to rest. Watching these videos has shown the balancing act you've got going between returning to work, putting out content, and recovering from the surgery. Thank you for the updates but please don't do anything you don't have to. Get well soon.
As a fellow migraine sufferer the success of the actual surgery is so fucking good to hear (the ridiculous healing process notwithstanding). I'm thinking of looking into it here in Aus if it's offered but I'm so happy for you! EDIT: Left this comment at the very start of the video without listening to how fucked the complications have been. Wishing you the absolute best but it sounds scary
Really hope Alanah gets better soon! I caught onto her work through IGN and have stuck with her since. She's an excellent gaming journalist! Also when she makes videos that aren't gaming related the mood is always chill and relaxing and we all need some of that rn with the way the world is trending
I've had a somewhat similar experience where my surgery wound (different part of the body) had almost completely healed except this one tiny area that would not close up and kept seeping when I applied pressure. My doctor told me on every checkup to keep the area extremely clean, which I did a pretty good job of, but I really had to double down for that last little bit to heal (wearing bandages with betadine but also applying rubbing alcohol a couple of times per day) and it took almost three months. Long story short folliculitis seems pretty plausible as even the slightest infection in the area could provoke this response, I hope it goes well and looking forward to updates.
I'm so sorry, I am also susceptible to staph infections and have suffered through many. My cousin and I went through many surgeries when we were younger and he carried staph in his sternum after open heart surgery. I would catch a staph cist in an arm pit or wrist every time I went over to see him as we were growing up. A staph blood infection eventually took his life. I am very scarred of the same happening to me. I'm not going to let you fall off my prayer list until I hear you say you are doing much better. Keep up the positive attitude and proactive action, both work wonders.
Thanks for this. I have a friend considering a surgery, and I think it's good for people to know about all the possibilities that surround a surgery that the doctors don't really talk about before the surgery. Thanks.
Thats so gnarly. But I am glad you feel confident enough to share with us. I hope you feel better soon. Glad to hear your migraines have calmed down. 3 months and you'l be 100% back to normal i reckon. This is just a blip. Keep us updated.
Took me a full day to watch this video because Alanah made sure to cover this video with ample content warnings! lol But I'm glad you're migraine-free so far, Alanah, that's huge! I'll be the optimist and say resolutely (but with zero evidence) that it's no big deal and that, in time, this will just be remembered as a particularly "charming" side effect of recovery from this surgery. I do hope everything is going well, I hope you feel better soon, and I hope that - one way or another - you can stop manually draining pus from a glue bag on your head ASAP! 😁
I had the same problem after a surgery in a very delicate area like yours whats causing the pus is actually the stitches and it was the reason my wound wasnt healing properly. Once you take the stitches out and clean around it the pus and blood will stop. Hope u feel better soon we are all here for you :)
For whatever it's worth: When you showed it, it look much better than what I was imagining with your description alone. I guess it sounds worse than it actually is. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Hopefully your feeling of sickness is just your body fighting off the infection. Take care!
I'm so sorry this is a continuously traumatic experience despite the absence of your migraines. I'm very glad to hear you're seeing the doctor again! My sister had MRSA after getting her birth control arm implant last month, but it was quickly knocked out by IV antibiotics and fluids. I hope, even if you do encounter a MRSA diagnosis, that you quickly begin to get relief and start healing in a less hellish manner. If your same doctor is not helpful, please don't be nervous to advocate for yourself and question how they're so sure all is fine. Trust your gut! Fingers crossed you getting feeling well soon
Oh, Alanah, I'm sorry to hear your recovery is such an ordeal to date! We're all hoping you get some definitive answers and decisive treatment. I'm a fellow asthmatic who is paranoid AF about pneumonia for exactly the reasons you described. Please, take good care!
When you talk about pneumonia I understand you on that. I have asthma and caught COVID last September. The pneumonia almost killed me. Stay safe out there
Oh fuck! And here I was so happy that the 2nd surgery seemed to be healing well. I'm glad that you're not having any more episodes, but man... you can't catch a break with that cut. Hopefully you'll be back up to 100% in another week or so. Please keep us updated! We care about your health and well being. Get well soon.
Keep up the good work, Alanah. I've had 2 cranial surgeries this year and am really on a good run after reconstructive cranioplasty. They did an unbelievable job and it really has made a huge emotional difference having the reconstruction as the left frontal portion of my skull looked like Mt. Saint Helens, post eruption. I had 1 very slight infection after 1st surgery, but was dealt with antibiotics. Well, enough about me. I am intrigued and enjoy following your updates so hopefully that process has some beneficial return for you. Thanks and Good Luck!
Thank you so much for sharing these videos, my partner is seriously considering asking about this surgery so this is all very helpful. I hope all these issues settle down so you get to enjoy the lack of migraines without stressing about a hundred other things! X
Damn, I'm sorry about the surgery Alanah. I have a couple of friends struggling with chronic migraines and it is truly horrible. I'm really happy the surgery managed to, hopefully, fully fix it, but the unwanted results are definitely scary and hurtful. I hope they can find a solution soon. Ingrown hair can be truly awful.
Wishing you the best Alanah💗 Hang in there, as a person who went through serious sickness recovery (for 4 damn years..) I totally understand the anxiety associated with it. Hope you are able to take your mind off of it (for me swimming daily was the key)🙏
Your so beautiful. I sure hate it that your having so much trouble getting healed up. I do have to say your really a brave lady. You know it takes alot of courage to share your life with people. I'm pulling for you hun. Stay strong and keep moving forward. I'll most definitely check in and see how things are going. Wishing you all the best 👍🙏🙏.
I'm sorry to hear this, for wounds that won't heal, on sensitive areas, please investigate a substance called Gentian violet. It is quite messy and purple in colour but antiviral. It is used in veterinary, and sometimes breast infections, depending on severity. Please research. Thankyou for sharing your experience.
Thanks for the update, hope it gets better. I've had pneumonia a few times, gets worse each time, last time I was in hospital for 2 weeks, don't wish that on anyone.
Sorry to hear you keep having issues with the recovery. I hope it all works out well in the end. Hopefully it isn't a staff infection, and it turns out your current illness is just an unrelated summer cold.
omg Alanah, what a circus! I do hope the appointment goes as planned and it works out. Please keep us updated as it seems the results of the original intent has worked out great. wave bye bye to migraines .. awesome!
Thanks for the update, I really hope that everything goes well for you and you get better soon and get it all sorted out! You are absolutely amazing! Hopefully it's all good news when you get the results and find out what the go is. 😊
I hope you get well! I hope it's not too bad. Sometimes the body just gets worse healing then gets healed completely. My mother made the medical books when she had her diverticulitis surgery. Surgery went well, but she had ruptured her intestines and it leaked puss through her body for over 6 weeks (hence how she made the medical history books). Fortunately the scar tissue blocked alot of it, but she had to basically get cleaned out completely, and the revision was done a little early due to the rupture. The worse part of all of it was the fact that she complained about pain and 4 different doctors/hospitals said she was ok.
I had a similar experience with my Laparoscopic surgery, surgical glue, and pus coming from wounds in my sternum area. It's not pleasant and I was paranoid about it, but it did eventually get better. I wish you the best with yours as well and hope you don't have a really bad infection.
Firstly really sorry to hear about this :( hopefully you get well soon and can seek help if theres any concern about sepsis As a comment on the videos of your health issues itself, I do love how well knowledgeable and well spoken you are about this despite you not being from a medical background - its really helpful for the viewers and educational about these aspects of healthcare
Thank you for sharing the updates. I'm glad that for all this stuff you're going through with the surgery it seems that it was successful at least. I've never had migraines like that but my mother has. It's debilitating for sure. I hope you heal up quick. Take care.

Stay safe and stay strong.
I wish you to get well soon Alannah. Hug from France. 🙏
HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER ALANAH!
I'm so sorry :( I hope you start feeling better and that it heals up quickly
As a fellow migraine sufferer the success of the actual surgery is so fucking good to hear (the ridiculous healing process notwithstanding). I'm thinking of looking into it here in Aus if it's offered but I'm so happy for you!
EDIT: Left this comment at the very start of the video without listening to how fucked the complications have been. Wishing you the absolute best but it sounds scary
Prayers for your continued recovery. Hope you get better soon!
Really hope Alanah gets better soon! I caught onto her work through IGN and have stuck with her since. She's an excellent gaming journalist! Also when she makes videos that aren't gaming related the mood is always chill and relaxing and we all need some of that rn with the way the world is trending
Here's to a speedy recovery! Thanks for the update...
Sending you good energies and best of wishes for your speedy recovery
Sorry to hear this Alanah. I hope you start feeling better and get back to 100%
I've had a somewhat similar experience where my surgery wound (different part of the body) had almost completely healed except this one tiny area that would not close up and kept seeping when I applied pressure.
Jebuz Alanah you can't catch a break. Hoping you get this sorted fully and without any more grief!
Sorry to hear this hope you find some relief soon. Keep us updated
Thanks for this. I have a friend considering a surgery, and I think it's good for people to know about all the possibilities that surround a surgery that the doctors don't really talk about before the surgery. Thanks.
Sorry you're going through this. Would definitely make me scared and anxious as well. I'm sure the doctors will give you some good news today!
Thats so gnarly. But I am glad you feel confident enough to share with us. I hope you feel better soon. Glad to hear your migraines have calmed down. 3 months and you'l be 100% back to normal i reckon. This is just a blip. Keep us updated.
Took me a full day to watch this video because Alanah made sure to cover this video with ample content warnings! lol
But I'm glad you're migraine-free so far, Alanah, that's huge! 😁
I'm so, so sorry to hear all this. I hope your work is giving you plenty of time to rest!!
Thank you for the updates, I find them super interesting and engaging. Hoping you are well!
I am SO sorry to hear that you have more complications! But happy to hear that you still haven't had any migraines! Good luck!
Hey Alanah. Sorry to hear you had to go through all this trouble with your surgery. Hope you're better now.
I had the same problem after a surgery in a very delicate area like yours whats causing the pus is actually the stitches and it was the reason my wound wasnt healing properly. Once you take the stitches out and clean around it the pus and blood will stop. Hope u feel better soon we are all here for you :)
This sucks. I hope that you get better really soon Alanah. My best wishes and prayers for you.
Your very strong and have gone through allot. Respect for you staying positive and going on.
For whatever it's worth: When you showed it, it look much better than what I was imagining with your description alone.
I guess it sounds worse than it actually is.
Wishing you a speedy recovery! Hopefully your feeling of sickness is just your body fighting off the infection. Take care!
My description was just ‘this is glue and sunscreen’ - I definitely didn’t mean to make it sound bad! I don’t think it looks bad.
Odd that this is the video that drew me to your channel. Get well soon, and I hope it's a minor issue, not a major problem.
I'm sorry to hear that get well soon Alanah. :)
I am so happy your migraines appear to be fixed. I wish you well an hope you never have another. Hope you can now make a full recovery
Hang in there Alanah! Hope you get well soon and are finally past all of these complications. 🙏
Crazy to hear all this has happened, really love all the great content and hope for a speedy recovery!
Geez. :( Hoping for a swift recovery, Alanah.
When you talk about pneumonia I understand you on that. I have asthma and caught COVID last September. The pneumonia almost killed me. Stay safe out there
Good luck with the doctor and the rest of the healing process!
Sending prayers and best wishes! Stay positive I am certain you will get through these unforseen complications. Much Love!
I hope everything clears up and you feel better soon!
Wish you the best Alanah, get better, get the surgery wound attended and that cough looked at also. Great to hear you have not had any migraines btw.
Thinking of you, Alanah. Hope to hear an update soon and that you can start to put this situation behind you.
I hope and pray your medical problems are soon overcome. Sad to see you suffering so much. Get well soon, Alanah.
Thanks for the update Alanha! Stay well girl!
Feel better. Prayers that all this gets better.
You're amazingly strong. I would be completely internalizing in order to deal with it, likely shutting everyone out. I sincerely hope things improve
Oh mate sorry to hear this. I hope you can get better soon.
Hope you recover and heal up soon
Thanks for the update, hope it gets better. I've had pneumonia a few times, gets worse each time, last time I was in hospital for 2 weeks, don't wish that on anyone.
I’m so sorry you’re going thru this I really hope you get better
Sorry to hear you keep having issues with the recovery. I hope it all works out well in the end.
Hopefully it isn't a staff infection, and it turns out your current illness is just an unrelated summer cold.
omg Alanah, what a circus! I do hope the appointment goes as planned and it works out. Please keep us updated as it seems the results of the original intent has worked out great. wave bye bye to migraines .. awesome!
That absolutely sucks dude sorry to hear that, get well soon. ❤️
Wishing ya a speedy recovery when it's all said and done 🙏🏿
Thanks for the update, I really hope that everything goes well for you and you get better soon and get it all sorted out!
You are absolutely amazing! Hopefully it's all good news when you get the results and find out what the go is. 😊
Hi Alanah. Here's to wishing you a speedy recovery no matter what it is. Good luck tomorrow! Take care, be well, and stay safe. --Marc
I'm sorry to hear about all this unfortunate unpleasant stuff. I hope the medical folks rectify this ASAP and get you better too!
I have commend you on keeping composure and being able to talk about this. I'd probably be less resolved. Cheers and get well soon!
Ouch, hope things clear up soon. Hope the doctor appointment goes well.
Happy you brought up the reality of getting sick isn’t just a psychical battle it’s also a mental battle
I hope its all coincidental and you heal well soon!! Good luck!
Sending you energy to get healthy ASAP. You're surgery scar looks pretty the last of us inspired. Pretty cool stuff
I had a similar experience with my Laparoscopic surgery, surgical glue, and pus coming from wounds in my sternum area. It's not pleasant and I was paranoid about it, but it did eventually get better. I wish you the best with yours as well and hope you don't have a really bad infection.
Hoping for the best, Alanah. Can't wait for all of this to be over for you.
Firstly really sorry to hear about this :( hopefully you get well soon and can seek help if theres any concern about sepsis
As a comment on the videos of your health issues itself, I do love how well knowledgeable and well spoken you are about this despite you not being from a medical background - its really helpful for the viewers and educational about these aspects of healthcare
Thank you for sharing the updates. I'm glad that for all this stuff you're going through with the surgery it seems that it was successful at least. I've never had migraines like that but my mother has. It's debilitating for sure. I hope you heal up quick. Take care.
