@@miguelvina7188 I really don’t like the way they wrote John in RDR2. In RDR1, John was not always the brightest person, but he was wise and had a sarcastic sense of humor. He always had something witty to say and was undeniably tough and ruthless. None of those attributes carried over into RDR2 and the writers watered down his street smarts and vocabulary. He was a very well spoken man in RDR1 and he credits that with Dutch teaching him how to read. "The leader of the gang taught me how to read, taught me how to see all that was good in the world. He was a great man in a way." "The leader of the gang I was in. A fella called Dutch. He taught us all how to read, taught us there was a different way to live. He had a vision of the west becoming some kind of savage utopia, turning bad men into doers of good deeds, and for a while, we all believed him." I also noticed that RDR2 had another discrepancy in John’s backstory. In RDR1, he tells people that he was raised in an orphanage before joining the gang much later on. However, that’s never brought up or alluded to in RDR2. "My father died when I was eight-years-old. His eyes were…well, let’s just say he was blinded in a bar fight south of Chicago. My mother died during childbirth. She was a prostitute and he was her…well, I don’t know what he was. So, I was sent off to an orphanage, ran away and fell in with a gang." "I never had a name, mister. I was raised in an orphanage." "Not as far as I know. I was raised in an orphanage. My father was Scottish." This means that John also had prior education from living in an orphanage before Dutch expanded on his scope of learning. So, he should be more than willing to speak in more long and coherent sentences like in RDR1. Yet, RDR2 decides to make him some dolt with a few loose screws that constantly needs to be saved by his friends. None of RDR2 lines up at all with what RDR1 told us about John. It’s also implied that John was Dutch’s protégé and the two were very close before Dutch and the gang betrayed him. Bill even alludes to this in his first conversation with John in RDR1. John: Bill, please. They want to kill us all, I can help you. Bill: Well, you never tried to save me before. You only seemed…to save yourself. John: Bill, I implore you think about this. Bill: You implore me? You implore me? You always were one for fancy words. Well, things are different now, John. Now, I’m in charge! No more Dutch! And no more you. And when you listen to Bill’s voice lines from the game files, he says, "thought you were Dutch’s little protégé, didn’t ya?"
I do too. I look at Arthur like John’s older brother, and when you look at it he really is his adoptive brother. John is so much different, he’s ruthless and cold to the core, crude, brutal, but he cares about his family. It’s all he has. Great character and development, one of the best characters I’ve ever seen.
@@tylore944 I agree. Arthur’s insults were more witty and meant to challenge the other persons intelligence. John on the other hand either threatens to kill the person brutally or straight up rips them a new one with his ruthless insults
When I played RDR, I didn't really care for John. Idk why I didn't click with him. RDR2, as werid as it sounds, made me click with him. This is why I hated John in RDR2. He lost pretty much all of his sarcasm, and his rants and jokes are fucking cringy as hell compared to Arthurs and the first game.
Emperor Ducky Yeah they really flanderized John’s character in RDR2. It pisses me off that Rockstar would downgrade their own character to make the newer one look better. It’s sad because RDR2 is a newer game that more people have played, so not many know just how badass and quick witted John was in RDR1.
"What's up with that John Marston fellow, he's been standin in that field, shoutin, all day." "Yeah, ever since he lost his wife he just ain't been the same. I wish they had put these in RDR2 for John. Because the actual dialogues they've had for John are just lame. It makes it NOT convincing for me to believe that it is the Younger John, more like a 75 year old version of John because of the way he stutters, and slowly talks and shit.
Uncharted-Redemption You should make a video that includes all the quotes said by Javier Escuella, either that or Capitan Vincente de Santa or Agustin Allende.
