  • This is a quick video of our port call in Sitka, Alaska. The City and Borough of Sitka (Tlingit: Sheetʼká, Russian: Ситка), formerly Novo-Arkhangelsk, or New Archangel under Russian rule, is a unified city-borough on Baranof Island and the south half of Chichagof Island. The Russians settled Old Sitka in 1799, calling it Fort Saint Michael.
In terms of land area, it is the largest city-borough in the U.S., with a land area of 2,870.3 square miles (7,434 square kilometres) and a total area (including water area) of 4,811.4 square miles (12,461 square kilometres).
It rained the whole time we were there. We walked to the Sitka National Historic Park. It has a lot of tall totem poles. We saw several Bald Eagles but not much other wildlife.

Thanks for the great video! I was stationed at the Coast Guard Air Station there in '95. I lived a block up from the harbor and used to take my Husky along the harbor and in Totem Pole Park all the time. Planning on doing a cruise in Aug of 2022... Thanks again!

When you're standing near the science center BEFORE you point out the eagle, you very clearly hear one on your video. There are so many more beautiful things to see in Sitka...miss it every day.

I enjoyed seeing Sitka from your perspective! We've been once before but did a ship tour, which was good. But this time we want to go on our own and you've provided some great tips of how to do that!

When we were in Alaska in may 2018 we had only one day of rain. We were very lucky

We went twice in 2019. In the Southern ports like Ketchican, Sitka and Juneau, it was raining. In the Northern ports like Anchorage, Seward and Valdez, it was sunny. Thank you for your comments and thank you for subscribing.

Thank you for the video presentation of Sitka, I am impressed with the quality of your video & pictures. I enjoyed your tour and your knowledge is very much spot on, Sitka is my old hometown and it have been a while since I been away from visiting but it reminds me how it was in the old days. I am very much surprised of the rainy weather you are having it's usually very nice in June.

Yeah, officially it's the largest city by land area, but it's stupid because I typed Sitka on Google Maps, and it showed me the city boundaries, and more than 95% of it is wilderness. Same with Juneau. IDK why Alaskans incorporate so much wilderness into their city limits.
You didn't visit the Russian Bishop's House? That's only, the most important thing,.
