Hey, a correction: Any N64 can output any video mode. You CAN load PAL roms on an NTSC console, and NTSC ROMs on a PAL console. I'm using the Super64 myself with a PAL N64 and play NTSC ROMs on it just fine. Your specific TV might not be able to handle a PAL signal, but that doesn't mean it's not possible.
In the end it comes if your display device can support both NTSC and PAL, as the console itself has no issues (aside of putting the cart in the correct mode for a USA/JPN console in NTSC or EUR console in PAL to start booting the games), so far only 1 game I was interesting doesn't work for me (Puyo Puyo Sun) but is not a big loss compared to what I can actually play that I couldn't back in the day or nowdays because of the stupid prices they ask for some of the games.

I have a question, has anyone successfully tried a clone backup on the SD? I tried to clone copy the original to make a backup, and even tried a fresh install with ED64 firmware and dumping the roms. The Super 64 cartridge only recognises the original SD and doesn't like SanDisk even though my PC can view both SD cards.
Did you format the replacement card? It needs to be FAT/FAT32. Once it’s formatted correctly, just copying the contents from the old drive to the new drive should be all you need to do.
I got the ED64 black cartridge with microsd from aliexpress and so far works with everything I have tested. They probably do not play at right speed due to the 50hz, but otherwise they work fine.

I think something to know is that the voltage is a higher pull on everything other than the official Everdrive, that added voltage can in the long term damage your system. However it's not going to break in in a day, probably not a year, possibly never. But it is a bit of a risk and will shorten your N64s overall life cycle. Though again I have never had an N64 just die on me and these things are pretty sturdy.
A bit of a misnomer in the world of flash carts. The danger is a 3.3V flash cart (which they all are) running on a system designed for 5V operation. The problem is that extra power left over from the cart only needing 3.3V while a regular cart needs 5V is going somewhere, most likely dissipated as heat via a voltage regulator. The N64 and GBA for example, run on 3.3V and the flash carts use slightly MORE power than that. In this instance, on of two things would happen. The system would blow a fuse from over drawing current, like any other standard electronic would OR the system would simply consume more power than normal. It doesn't hurt a GBA at all, just hampers battery life. With the N64, since they run hard wired to an outlet in your home, the systems most normal response would be a blown fuse from current overdraw. I do suppose aging components in your N64 power supply might cause a bit of an issue with a flash cart drawing slightly more power than a normal cart... but I bet at worst the flash cart just wouldn't work properly or at all. A standard game would work just fine. This isn't a fault of the flash cart though. It's a fault of an N64 power supply that was needing repaired anyways. Again, it's not like the flash cart only needed 3.3V and the system expected it to draw 5V and had to send that extra power off somewhere to be lost to thermal dissipation... I can see that being a bigger problem.

Hi .. Quick question , Does it really work with PAL system N64 console? i heard rumors that it doesn't work/boot up on the N64 PAL consoles even if its physically region switched through the cartridge itself
I guess I cant really answer that question, I don't own a PAL n64 to experiment with. I feel like it should work fine, but I really have no idea. If I were you I'd check around youtube or google to see what the consensus is. My advice is stay away from reddit opinions tho, I mentioned it in this video, but the n64 subreddit is not objective when it comes to anything that isnt the krikzz everdrive. Sorry I couldn't help more!
Also the full n64 catalogue is way bigger the 16 gig if you want every game you need 32gig if you want room for your save files the full collection includes Europe and Japan Roms and also if you get the ever drive pack with all the home brew and hacks you have to get 32 gig card
so does it require the memory pack to save to the memory pack on those games? reason im asking is my current memory pack oem nintendo only does like 5-8 games before full. if its saving to that pack is there a way to get a aftermarket pack that uses like 2gb or something vs the mbs on the oem ?
Glad to see the Super 64 has a regular SD interface. I just got my ED64+ from the post office and getting the micro SD card to latch is a bit frustrating, though it's not as flimsy as I thought. If I'm to get another flashcart, it'll be this one with its firmware switched out for Alt64 since it's basically a knockoff ED64+.
@@johndee759 Krikzz openly stated his earliest carts didn't have proper grounding -- by the time Voultar posted his testings, Krikzz was no longer selling those particular versions, and the newer ones Voultar had stated were iffy, have never seen console damage in any way. Krikzz has said buddy's theory was good, but physically Krikzz has used the same consoles in testing his products for more than 10 years now with not a single console frying (only one was his Famicom, and that was a power cord shorting on the pcb/unrelated). It's worth it to follow the EverDrive forums to get the whole story.
hey where would people need to go to download n64 ROMs onto their self purchased flash drive to insert into the krikzz 3.0 flash drive cart? How do you know what's the best place to download the ROMs from to play via krikzz?
Just coming back to saving files, I have to press the reset button before turning off the N64. But I do not understand which memory card I have to place in my N64 controller. I never had a memory card in a controller, only my rumble pack. Can you explain this to me? Thanks, Roel
Yeah just google n64 memory pak, most games for the n64 dont require it, but a lot of 3rd party games do. If the original cartridge required a memory pak in the controller than the super64 rom also requires it.
@@heyguysitsshea ok thanks. I didn’t realise that. I always thought the gameplay was saved in the cartridge itself or the expansion pack in the N64 console (e.g. DK 64).

My only qualm about the Super 64 was the ability to enable Gameshark codes but thats it (unless I haven't figured it out), otherwise I think Super 64 is definetly the better option in terms of price and availability/accessibility.
Yeah Pilot Wings 64 wouldnt load for me. I replaced the rom and it worked fine after that. If any of your games dont load it's most likely just a rom issue
@@dgjg218 you just plug the SD card into your computer and replace the rom file with one that works. There are plenty of sites to download roms, just give it a google.

It's kinda funny but region lock between Japan and USA in the N64 is a piece of plastic inside the cartridge slot and japanese and american cartridges are slightly different in the bottom. This flash cartridge will fit in any N64 without any issue.
Yeah you should look into something called the N64 Passport. They work in the same way the gameshark does where you plug your pal cartridge in top of the passport cart and stick it in your system. You can find them online for like $30
I have a NES everdrive from Ali-express and it works just fine for me, but some ROMS won't work, for the most part are either hacks (very few of them but some are a big lose like Rockman 4 Minus Infinity) or Bootlegs (like World Heroes 2 or the awful Action 52... the later has a workaround to play the crappy games, nowdays hard to find the splitted ROMS, I could help in that regard as I was lucky to get the ROMS before it was deleted from the page I got them). And I can also say that the SD2SNES Pro (FXPAK) from Ali-express also works like a charm, except for the auto region patch for PAL games (I haven't give a shot to NTSC-J games yet, only NTSC USA) without having those patched to bypass the region lock.
Thank you so much for this video. I own 39 original carts and love them, but it would feel nice to have every game on original hardware as well. Super64 it is!
Hi no i must correct you, the ED64+ and Super 64 have not the same flashboard, the black ED64+ is older and have green/yellow or black PCB board with ALTERA Cyclone 2 chip and the red Super 64 is newer and have a black PCB board with the newer ALTERA Cyclone 4 chip, any way good video
Maybe I just missed it in the video but how do you exit a game? Do you simply reset or shut off your console? I'm probably just dumb and missed the explanation.
When FPGAs getting more cable and a smaler chip can do more an omni FPGA like the size of a GBA cart or whatever is the smallest that coule be placed into adapters would likely be the best way to stretch out hardware and reduce cost.
Actually I recently bought an Everdrive 64 X7, I have the option to download their licensed PIKO ROM's on the purchase of an Everdrive + their custom firmware, then you have to buy an SD card added to your order, however I know a friend who gives SD cards (for example a 32 GB SD card costs like $15 bucks at Stone Age Gamer while at my local electronic shop it's well around under $5 bucks) that's why I don't order SD cards from them so they don't pre-install their licensed ROM's and firmware, it's a rip off! Still that's the only place where I bought my Everdrive, the reason why I ordered the x7 model it's because I sold my previous x5 (v2.x) it's because a friend really wanted an Everdrive 64 for himself since he loves the N64 so much, and I sold it with SD card included, so he's way content their heart than me haha... Well Can't wait to play some Dobutsu no Mori now that has RTC and I'm curious to see how's the N64 DD games look as well :)
I have all the games I want to play on my 64, mario 64, zelda, smash, pokemon but I don't think £400 Is worth It If I want to play rom hacks or US/JP exclusives or even get a better framerate
DK 64 yes it needs an expansion pack, pokemon stadium doesn't, just like with the original n64 carts of these games, flashcarts like the super 64 don't change this prerequisite of some games requiring the expansion pack, why would they, what the expansion pack does is it doubles the physical RAM of the N64 console, from 4 MB to 8 MB, that isn't something that can be virtualised by any cart or software on said cart because it's a physical RAM upgrade of the very console itself. I don't have an expansion pack but have my n64 and pokemon stadium 1 & 2 for well over a decade and these games work fine without the expansion pack, thinking of getting a flashcart myself but need to then also get an expansion pack if I want to play games that need it like DK 64.
An interesting video. I didn't know anything at all about the Super64. I have just one question: if I try to play a PAL game with Super64 in an NTSC system, what would happen? Would it crash, or run the game with messed up video/audio or something?
Yeah most will play, but they'll be in black and white and the audio is pretty scratchy. There's probably a way to get it to work, but I was never interested enough to try
@@heyguysitsshea that's right, it's the same way with Krikzz's EverDrive 64. However, since my TV doesn't handle PAL, I thought the greyscale video was due to that. Perhaps with a modern TV...

If you buy the newest version of the krikzz everdrive then it saves automatically, but for the super64 you're going to have to hit the reset button when you want to save
You won't regret it (in my case I got it 2 years ago as ED64Plus), it works like a charm and almost all games boot just fine, and you can play some rom hacks like Smash Remix or Randomized games like the 2 Zeldas and Super Mario 64... just make sure you have an expansion pack, as most hacks needs it to work, the same for prototypes like Mortal Kombat Trilogy (the prototype features unmasked Sub-Zero instead of Cage for example).

I am 4 year late, but just a thank you for showing a few things about this card, which i just got for my pal N64, as the card was picking NTSC by default and not running games, but thanks to this video i found the option to switch it to pal, as i am in the UK, and now all the games work great.....so think you.
Does this play NES games just by copying the roms onto the SD? Can SNES be played with this? Can it be used to run other emulators?
The music on Mario Kart 64 doesn't play on this super 64 for me. Anyone know what could be the problem?
I'm so glad I came across this video as I was just about to buy an ED 64 plus glad to I won't be paying extra for the same product
I have a PAL system and the super 64 cart and can confirm it works on my system just fine.
@@jerrysnowland9398 can you add games(pal) to that drive ?
@Derek Thompson The PAL is a real one.
it works with pal and you can play all regions on pal devices as the voltage is no issue for pal devices
Also the full n64 catalogue is way bigger the 16 gig if you want every game you need 32gig if you want room for your save files the full collection includes Europe and Japan Roms and also if you get the ever drive pack with all the home brew and hacks you have to get 32 gig card
Thanks! I really appreciate the honesty and willingness to be objective.
Which N64 everdrive is best and how much is a good price point for them?
It emulates SNES games?! What is the maximum capacity of the microSD that this device supports? What is the microSD supoorted format type?
so does it require the memory pack to save to the memory pack on those games? reason im asking is my current memory pack oem nintendo only does like 5-8 games before full. if its saving to that pack is there a way to get a aftermarket pack that uses like 2gb or something vs the mbs on the oem ?
Glad to see the Super 64 has a regular SD interface. I just got my ED64+ from the post office and getting the micro SD card to latch is a bit frustrating, though it's not as flimsy as I thought. If I'm to get another flashcart, it'll be this one with its firmware switched out for Alt64 since it's basically a knockoff ED64+.
Do i need the expansion pack on the console for the games that require it?
The comment about saving is gold. Thanks!
Will these hurt your console in the long term?
@johndee759 yes, the vast majority of these fake EverDrives will absolutely kill your console over time.
@@armstrong1990 even krikkz’s did back then until voultar demonstrated what they do to consoles.
@@armstrong1990 that’s awesome. I don’t think Krikkz has any intention of damaging anyone’s console.
Is the red cart beveled?
So it’s impossible to play games not from Europe when you are using a PAL N64? That’s a bummer.
hey where would people need to go to download n64 ROMs onto their self purchased flash drive to insert into the krikzz 3.0 flash drive cart?
DK 64).
Is the sd card in it just for saves ? I've seen a lot for the cartridge but it doesn't show a card in the side slot.
The SD card is what holds all your roms. Newer versions of this cartridge use micro SD cards, but they all still use them
@@heyguysitsshea ahh. Alright cool I appreciate the help.
Have a question. Do I still need ram expansion for dk64 and majoras mask? Also do those title play with no lag?
Hi! Yeah you will still need the ram expansion for games that need them, and the games won't have anymore lag than actual carts of the game
It makes perfect sense why it's so expensive
You may not have the original cart but any good game used online is well over 50 bucks each for an aftermarket cart
Literally was looking on ebay and a brand new never opened conkers bad fur day is 700...that's why it's so much bc he knows the true value of his product and how much money in the long run people will save by using n64 hardware to somewhat emulate roms
does it play rogue squadron and shadows of the empire well?
How is Super64 for home brew development?
2:36 couldnt have said it better!
Is there something like this for ps1?
My only qualm about the Super 64 was the ability to enable Gameshark codes but thats it (unless I haven't figured it out), otherwise I think Super 64 is definetly the better option in terms of price and availability/accessibility.
Ciao Need anyway the Memory expansion pack for example for Donkey Kong 64? Or not?
I think it is needed
So this thing already has the games on it?
Anyone know how to access your favourites once you’ve added games to it?
He covers that in the video
Did you have any trouble loading any games in particular? I’m having issues with WWF No Mercy
Yeah Pilot Wings 64 wouldnt load for me. I replaced the rom and it worked fine after that. If any of your games dont load it's most likely just a rom issue
Stupid question, how do I replace the rom?
@@dgjg218 you just plug the SD card into your computer and replace the rom file with one that works. There are plenty of sites to download roms, just give it a google.
@@dgjg218 Did you get that issue fixed? I'm thinking of getting this mainly for No Mercy because I have the bugged copy and hoping this EverDrive can play a clean version on NM.
No Mercy is why I bought this as well. I still haven’t tried to fix it, but the downloads I’ve seen say that it is the debugged version.
Does the Everdrive 64 have smash remix and mario kart 64 rom hacks?
Not pre-downloaded, but you can add them easily enough
My super 64 (the red one) didn't work at any point, did I do something wrong, or did I get ripped off?
I bought a Japanese n64 I know region locks exist will the super 64 cartridge be compatible?
It's kinda funny but region lock between Japan and USA in the N64 is a piece of plastic inside the cartridge slot and japanese and american cartridges are slightly different in the bottom. This flash cartridge will fit in any N64 without any issue.
There´s a new one in 2024: Summer Cart 64. I bought it and is simply wonderful.
Hi I am waiting on ed64 plus. But I wonder if there is some way to play my actual pal cartridges on my ntsc n64?
Yeah you should look into something called the N64 Passport. They work in the same way the gameshark does where you plug your pal cartridge in top of the passport cart and stick it in your system. You can find them online for like $30
Can you do this for the NES everdrive clones on ali express ?
At the end of the day will that matter though? That's my main question
@@TheDeathOfLucifer if the red super 64 uses the altera 4 thats really good for heat management
Does the super 64 have animal Forrest on it and can I put new games that aren't on it on it and how easy is it to add roms
Animal Forrest isn't included, but you can add it pretty easy. Just put the SD card in a computer and download the ROM
Maybe I just missed it in the video but how do you exit a game? Do you simply reset or shut off your console? I'm probably just dumb and missed the explanation.
You have to reset the console if you want to change games, I didnt mention that in my video lol
If you have a pal console, can you use a n64 passport with super64 and swith to ntsc?
@@Lunchboxdempsey I don't think that would work tbh, the hardware is pretty different from a regular cart, it might hurt your passport cart
@@heyguysitsshea thanks for the heads up
If I have a n64 memory drive can I default to saving to that instead of the flash drive or cart?
Yep, games that use the memory pak will defaut to the memory pak
@@heyguysitsshea thanks for responding.
Is there a way to exit out of a game and choose another one without resetting?
Hello my friend. Please let me know if Super 64 supports gameshark codes, if can I save instant and if I can use custom ROMS. Thanks a lot ;)

When FPGAs getting more cable and a smaler chip can do more an omni FPGA like the size of a GBA cart or whatever is the smallest that coule be placed into adapters would likely be the best way to stretch out hardware and reduce cost.

Can I put Krikzz firmware on the SD card to have Gameshark Codes?
Yep, you sure can

Hey so I have a super 64 and some of the games on it don’t load. The screen just goes to black. Any ideas on how to get them started?
Some of the roms that it comes with might not work, the easiest thing to do is just download new roms

@@RipleyVs... yeah of course! Works just like a regular SD card, put it in your computer and you can delete/move/add the files you want
@@heyguysitsshea awesome, thank you! do you have a link to where I can get the games from at all?
“The best on the market” is not the Everdrive 64 v3.0. It’s the 64Drive HW2.
Also, I’ve been using Doctor V64 and V64jr512 since back in the day. ;)
I have all the games I want to play on my 64, mario 64, zelda, smash, pokemon
but I don't think £400 Is worth It If I want to play rom hacks or US/JP exclusives or even get a better framerate
Got mine but where do I get the roms
Love the shirt! Cool video as well
can anyone send me the default firmware that comes with the super 64 drive? plzzzzz i cannot load it in a new sd card :(
Just buy a new one.
Quick question... do you need an a red expansion pak to play pokemon stadium or donkey kong 64 with this super 64
Any game that requires the expansion pak will still need one
If I purchased a super64 would I be able to delete the roms on the sd card and load my own roms?
Yeah for sure, it works just like a regular SD card
@@heyguysitsshea awesome, thanks for the quick reply!
Is this capable of running a Controller benchmark rom? Im fixing n64 joysticks That are very used and dont want to boot up Mario 64 everytime to Test Input.
Yep, I'm pretty sure it comes preinstalled too
Do any of them save without having to push buttons
If you buy the newest version of the krikzz everdrive then it saves automatically, but for the super64 you're going to have to hit the reset button when you want to save
and what about the games that need the expansion pak, they work without it?
Nope, games that require the expansion pak or a memory pak will still need those accessories
great video, was thinking of picking up an Everdrive but needed to save up so will go for the super64. Thanksss
Glad I could help!
