      I dont think it will fix it, they would have to rethink the base game traits, and also, a return of the attributes points system from the sims 1 and 2. Remember things that matter in life that everyone is related to, more or less and that define a person, on how you see that person and how you are interested in them or not. I am thinking about, the point system where you would make your sims either more active or more lazy, more outgoing or more shy, more neat or more dirty, ect... there are the first thing you will notice in real life when you speak to a person or see them going... and probably the most important things also to choose the loved one, or friends... so that would make a big change in the game, but for it they would have to rethink the entire trait system, that in my opinion, should only act as a defined personnality or lifestyle like this, which make sense, but not as a whole personnality structure.

    • @SimsCommunity
      @SimsCommunity  3 года назад +46

      The way I showcased lifestyles in this video is a lot more...dramatic? than things actually are in the game. It feels a lot more fluent and natural when you're playing at a normal pace, at least for me. If you aspire for your Sim to have a certain lifestyle and they get it after a few days you certainly won't decide to go against all the rules of it and break the pattern just to get negative buffs like I did lol. I'm hoping to get more hands-on with this when I get early access so I can do more extensive research about if it feels natural or not

    • @jk8451
      @jk8451 3 года назад +26

      Also, it's my understanding that lifestyles can change over time. Whereas, traits can only be changed by a re-trait-ing potion (or through a cheat). And, I've been wanting to be able to have more than 3 traits per sim since the game came out, so I don't mind if lifestyles are similar to traits; it still adds more character to each sim.

    • @aprt23
      @aprt23 3 года назад +9

      I should’ve explained my comment a little better. When I say constant negative buffs I just mean is the game going to want you to constantly be doing things to fulfill the lifestyle to not have your sim constantly be in a bad mood. How often do you have to be doing things that contribute to the lifestyle in order for it to not have a negative effect on the sims moods. Are we going to constantly get buffs that our sims want to be outside even if they’ve already been outdoors for a significant amount of time with the outdoorsy lifestyle? Or with the coffee one, if we want to work toward that lifestyle, will our sims be spending more time drinking coffee than doing anything else in order to keep it?

    I'm trying to have an open mind but what I just saw don't fix the main issue with emotions, which is: sim gets excited, happy, sad, etc and... nothing REALLY changes. They basically keep doing the same activities and the only change is a notification about the emotion and how much time it will take for him to get "normal" again.
    I'd love to see a change on the behavior. Example: sim gets sad, goes to bed to cry, and gets there for a while, avoid speak with other sims, have a meltdown during work or school, anyway... other behavior than just crying between normal activities and walk sad. I was hoping this somehow could change with lifestyles but is just new repetitive actions related to the same core of main emotions. Sad.

    • @peppermintbutler8205
      @peppermintbutler8205 3 года назад +11

      Yeah same with the Sentiments, so far it looks like it will just give you sim some emotion if triggered (i.e. anger when someone your sim don't like is around them) but the problem is negative emotion tends to get overpowered by positive emotions, just like what they've shown in the livestream. Postive emotions needs to be nerf or negative emotions need to buff.

    I hoped so much that the lifestyles would make my sims AI more interesting and improved but it does not. It's like having a moodlet added to the other moddlets but with more information. My sims don't behave differently and I wished so much, that the lifestyles would enable some sort of Autopilot for the game. Like if the Sim is outdoorsy, why doesn't he make his garden on his own? Why doesn't he go fishing on his own? Why does he not wander around his neighborhood? Why isn't the lifestyle LIVED by the sims after you unlocked it? The lifestyles had been the only reason for me to buy snowy escape but it is a disapointment because it seemed more game-changing and interesting but it's not. Shame EA shame. My 40 bucks wasted on the dream of having improved AI.

    So they made traits from Sims 3 into slower starting lifestyles? Some people may like it in this lifestyle setting. I just really wish we were given more traits that seemed to matter. It would make sense to have been in a pack such as Get Together or Parenthood or to just be an update for everyone like you said. But nevertheless I’m super happy they are including more elements for personality as TS4 is lacking in a diverse range of traits/aspirations to really differentiate different Sims and families in gameplay.

      There maybe reasons for that, especially in regards to not be insensitive towards the culture they're basing this pack on. People can tend to take certain things the wrong way even if it's an accurate portrail of their culture or lifestyle. They probably stuck with what they knew wasn't going to be problematic and while disappointing, it's understandable. (I mean alot of cultural stuff was missing from sims 3 adventures that would have been awesome to add and they chose to avoid them for the same reasons. Egypt and China have deep and long surviving cultures but there is alot that isn't suited to a sims game and better put into something like a total war version of historical context ect... .) they've already taken enough heat on lack of representation despite them trying to fix it so I doubt they'd want to offend more people.

    I would have loved to see a "wannabe health nut" lifestyle. Like your sim would always want to start a diet and start eating healthy but they find sugar and unhealthy food tempting. They could have made it to where the Sim starts a streak for how long they've been eating healthy. And when they break their "streak" of eating healthy it would create a disappointed moodlet. That would have been pretty realistic and interesting to see in the sims lifestyles.

    Could the buff of No loading time might be a hint towards no loading screens in the future of the game? Or is it way too much to ask for in a computer game of 2020. :D

    I have a world with two sims (Aniya and Sylvia) Sylvia is a teacher, so she works week days and is off on weekends, and Aniya is a Mixologist, so she works every day except for Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. They both became workaholics and because it made them both VERY tense I sent them to lifestyle coaching to get rid of that lifestyle. It worked for Aniya, but for some reason it’s still saying that Sylvia is tense from panicky work withdrawals even though it said the coaching got rid of that lifestyle. It’s really putting an affect on her life because it’s preventing her from getting her skills up for work which is preventing her from get promotions and it’s really stressing me out. Idk of this is some kind of glitch or it takes longer for some sims for that specific lifestyle to go away. If you had/have the same problem as me it’d be great if you could tell me how to fix this problem!! 😅

    In my opinion they should have completely redone the personality system... we should be able to choose our lifestyles in CAS.... also the Sims 2 basically has lifestyles in base game lol.

    • @organicstorm

      Most likely around Tuesday .. judging from previous updates before packs they tend to leave a couple of days between release and BG update in case something really messes up (like in June when we needed emergency patch just a few days after the original patch.. o.O)

      They won't add it to base game.. just like they haven't and won't ever add clubs and fame system to BG, they are core features of the respective Expansion Pack they came with, after all.

    I just got Snowy Escape and I'm probably gonna disable the lifestyles for the current household anyway. I have 8 people in the household with careers and aspirations and wants and it's a lot already without trying to keep track of lifestyles. Pretty much all of them developed lifestyles from their current activities already, but it could be a problem in the long run. Like the Sims that are currently enrolled in a uni and need to study a lot developed the indoors sedetary lifestyles and I don't want to deal with them complaining when they finish uni and go back to their more natural lifestyles they had before which included a lot more travel and outdoorsy activities. Another one of my Sims developed the workoholic lifestyle pretty much immedediately and then he had 2 days off in his normal schedule and started to complain.
    I think for smaller household it might be a really good feature, especially if one plays with generations, which I don't, since I turned off aging for my main household. I will probably use it in other saves where I plan for that Sim to pursue something specific, but for the chaotic and everchanging main household I have, it would probably just make things harder. They're uncomfortable for various reasons all the time already, I don't need lifestyles to contribute to that 😂.
    I do think it's a really cool feature. And it's good you can turn it off, because it probably isn't a good fit for some types of play.

  • @freshZK

    In sims 2 your sim needed to be in a good mood to get reward points. Also, if they were in a bad mood it would sometimes have terrible consequenses in their life, there was a higher chance they'd fail at social interactions or they could even lose a job if you did something risky in a bad mood. In sims 4 the mood doesnt change the gameplay significantly and it's been proven that you can still meet a new sim and high-five them into marrying you even if your sim is sad or tired. So question is, why would you bother putting your sim in a certain mood if it doesnt have any effect neither on short-term goals nor the long-term goals?? It all would make just a little bit more sense if with happy mood and other positive moods we'd be getting reward points over time for example.

  • @Turtlezgomoo

    here’s how i see it: without lifestyles, besides snowboarding there isn’t much gameplay with Snowy Escape (SE), so if it was a base game update, it would make SE less impactful and more like a Gamepack, like bowling night, and seeing as they put soo much work into this pack (platforms, sentiments, lifestyles, the simmers collab etc.) it wouldn’t make sense financially to be a gamepack, and the world probably wouldn’t have been as big, probably being Vampires and Realm of Magic sized.
    I can see them adding more lifestyles in future packs, like how there’s apartments in City Life AND Eco Lifestyle, making them less exclusive, but still not a base game feature.

    Very nice coverage of this feature - thank you! I do wish this was a basegame addition like the sentiments will be as it would be nice to see it added to over time. Maybe the sims team will add extra types of lifestyles in future packs or maybe this will be enough, I guess time will tell. I am excited to have a few more layers that will (hopefully) add some diversity to my sims and maybe even give them preferences when it comes to picking partners. I so want some sort of chemistry system - I like my sims to dictate that a little. I am hopeful that this pack is a step in the right direction.

    I really like that all have up and downsides and not just create moodlets. That is one of the problems I have with the traits they are often only positive or negative and don't really affect anything except the moods which are often overpowered by the nice decor.
