Being someone who grew up with John Conlee, George Jones, Dolly Parton, & tons more country singers on the radio, tv, listening to their albums at home with my Dad, etc... You get to know by heart their tones of voices, notes, & styles of how they sing all of their songs. Michael's voice blends in very well with John's. They make a great duo. One thing to remember though when singing with any of those legends of that generation is, don't sing so quickly. They're A generation of singers, songwriters & entertainers that could both sing & believed in singing a song in a way that would definitely bring out a reaction of some kind in anyone who ever listens to them. They had a style of voice that was very meditative, & could make a crying child stop crying & put them to sleep instantly; suppress anyone who's severely depressed, & instantly, make them smile when nothing else could, etc... My Dad & I listened to him a lot throughout my childhood. I love all of John's songs but, if I could only pick 1 as hard as that would be to do, I'd have to say, this one. It's a song that I noticed growing up that made me press the repeat button many times over & over. It would be my jukebox choice of his songbook hands down. 😂, not really. Ray has a very old fashioned country sounding voice and it’s really powerful. But he did not sound just like Connelly. I think Ray favors Rand Travis more than Connelly. But there is a hint of Connelly in his voice.
First time my family saw John Conlee, Little Nashville , Indiana . He was covering for a no-show Ricky Scaggs . Done an awesome show, and I have been a fan ever since!
