  • The first BEV from the Genesis brand is the GV60, sharing a platform with the Ioniq 5 and EV6. It's more luxurious but more expensive, so the guys question its place in the market, how it drives, the new tech, and if you should consider owning one. But most of all, is it any fun?

We bought an Ioniq5 and loved it but wanted more luxury so we got this, thinking we would sell the Ioniq. But we can’t seem to let it go. I am a car lover, born and raised near Detroit Michigan with lots of relatives involved in auto design and manufacturing. Once I drove an EV my mind completely flipped. I had a C7 corvette, but the GV60 is way more fun to drive. ICE cars seem prehistoric to me now. I grant you that The charging infrastructure for these isn’t ready but it is only a matter of time. If I didn’t have a level 2 plug at home I wouldn’t be in EVs yet. I think this year we have saved $2800 by charging at night over what we would have spent on our old Audi Q5 and Mini Cooper Countryman. Last thing - I rented a Tesla for a road trip and this car is WAY better. It isn’t close.

@@frok7744 The GV60 is WAY more luxurious inside. I could make a list a mile long, when you sit in it you will see and feel the difference. The drive is more comfortable, and can vary according to drive mode which the Tesla can’t (except for model s/x). I think Tesla’s software is slipping (the map, for example, is quite dated compared to GV60). And tesla suffers for lack fo carplay. The complete absence of buttons and dials in the tesla for me puts the GV60 clearly ahead. The paddle controlled regen is far preferrable for me. In almost every category the GV60 is better IMHO. The only categories it isn’t are range and charger network.

You sound like me 8 years ago after I test drove and then got the Model S. It was like stepping into the future, OMFG how come no one thought about this earlier. So glad Big Oil's EV FUD campaign of the past decade is slowly but surely coming to an end, let's hope they don't make WW3 to preserve their dominance.

@@kippck3137 Thank you, was hoping to hear from someone with a consumer perspective. I'm really loving the look & performance of the GV60 & I'm considering one - but four things stand in my way:
      (1) Range. I live in an apt building & would have to charge it a few blocks away.
      (2) Price. The guys in the video above are right, what you're paying for is way more than you're getting, but that's EVs in general.
      (3) Handling. I heard the GV60 doesn't handle very well. I know the power is there, but coming up from a Subaru WRX, I've been spoiled with superb handling if nothing else.
      (4) Availability. Canadian market is predicted to be sold out til 2026. I'm not crossing a border to buy an EV. I want the car but I'm not a sucker. Plus, EVs are improving every couple of years, so what's going to be available in '26 might be WAY better.
All that said, I still want one & NOW!

@@NunchucksHabit I don’t know if I would go non-tesla yet if I couldn’t charge at home and had to rely on public chargers - the range wont be an issue when there are more charging networks, it will just be like a car with a smaller gas tank, but that is a year or two (or more) away. And the car was expensive, but pound for pound about the same as a tesla Y performance with much more luxury so I considered it a wash, and I really like the luxury so I went with the GV60. I was also concerned about the surprisingly high number of people still complaing about build quality issues with tesla (I just cannot stand rattles and squeaks). Go sit in one if you can, take it for a drive. You will know. Maybe it wont matter much for you, but it did for me. Also, people that say the handling isnt as good just haven’t put the car into sport mode where the dampers and steering tighten up. You can configure it to tighten them in regular confort mode also, but I guess most people don’t realize it.

I purchased the GV60 Advanced in August, really enjoy the car. I think the Advanced at $9k less is the better buy - still plenty fast (as I tell people, I can still make the passenger nauseous if I want) and loaded with options most people want. I have a level 2 charger at home (after incentives, very little net cost), so is extremely convenient. As somewhat of a comparison, I rented a Tesla 3 about a month ago while on a business trip. It made me appreciate my GV60, could not get used to everything on the middle screen (felt like my eyes kept leaving the road), luxury/fit/finish on GV60 is better, etc. The Tesla S is a likely different comparison, but if comparing to the 3/Y models, I would take GV60 all day.

I love the presentation these guys put out. They're prepared, they're pleasant, well spoken, VERY informative & they don't pelt us with nonsense & music videos. This is a compliment, btw - while these guys might be funny as hell in person, they know how funny they are not on video, and they move along. The very little goofing around they do is totally within the parameters of what you're watching this video for. There are so many channels with performative people bringing the cringe. Not these guys. Every question I would ask about a car, they do it.
I too was first attracted to this car because of the interior. My parents had a 2000 Lexus LS400 with the light brown interior & I've been enduring black interiors since. You can't get a nice light brown leather or leather-like interior on anything less than $80k these days....
I've also been saying that this is the best sub-$100k EV on the market. I was about to buy a Tesla Y Performance, but Elon happened, so I started looking around a bit & this one just destroys every EV I've seen so far. Interiors like this are SO DAMNED OVERDUE. I'll go on for a half hr lambasting the hideous interiors of Tesla & easily 90% of cars on the market. I thought I was just a cranky old bastard, turns out I wasn't JUST a cranky old bastard. I've been waiting for car companies to catch up to Mercedes with some interior innovation.
Without the complexities of ICE and transmissions, I certainly hope we're finally looking at getting the reliability we deserve.

But if I had too own one I would pick this, or most other EVs over any Tesla, infact Tesla would not be on my list. This looks way better than any Tesla and I'm not a fan of these jumbo sized screens that are being put in any car these days not just Tesla. But what is an absolute deal breaker for me and the main reason of many why I won't even consider a Tesla is that everything is done through a screen, even the most simplest task which takes a lot longer to do because you have to go through menus to get to it instead of having a dedicated button to turn on or off. It's absolutely frustrating and absurd and I thought things should be intuitive, and focus on driving.

It depends on your situation - where you live, your house wiring, home charger, a garage, & job distance. There are some EVs that do better than others. If so, it’s way easier than wasting time finding a gas station.

    • @Mark-de4hj
      @Mark-de4hj Год назад +2

@@jpnw3272 The fact that you start your sentence by saying, "depends"...and then rattle off a list of "inconveniences" is exactly the problem. When you get to that gas station you quickly jump out refill and you are on your way instead of plotting your trip in advance only to show up and charger is out of service and or/waiting to become a victim of crime while waiting around. EVs are just not for everyone. And that's OK.

Tesla’s infrastructure sets them miles ahead of the closest competitor. The reliability of knowing there are reliable charging stations in more places than the competition is a huge selling point. People overlook the other issues( panel gaps, old tech, no apple car play) when you know you can almost charge anywhere. Range and HP numbers are still competitive as well….

The Tesla charging network in most places is just near the interstate...I'd have to drive about 10 miles to charge it from home. Only people in California really benefit from it... That's why we are all driving gas cars amongst many other reasons...

I would not want to be sitting four hours on the freeway burning up the limited battery. The bs about seat heaters is foolish when its single digits or colder like its outside my house right now.

I generally love your content, but you have done this car and the EGMP platform a disservice. You make it sound like it’s just a commuter car while only discussing Level 2 240V charging and ignoring its incredible DC Fast Charging capability. This platform is among the fastest charging on the planet with a claimed and independently verified 10-80% charge in 18 minutes. At those speeds the car is likely ready to go before you get back from going to the restroom and grabbing a snack. They are phenomenal road trippers.
If you want a light, playful, good handling EV that really is just a commuter car, then check out the MINI Cooper SE. I’ve had mine for 2.5 years and 18k super enjoyable miles already and it’s a riot both in commute traffic as well as throwing it around canyon roads. Bonus, with only a 32 kWh battery it charges at home in a couple hours.

Currently, working DC fast chargers are not common. There aren’t any fast chargers in our area even though we have a large percentage of electric car owners. All manufacturers discuss how fast their cars can charge in ideal conditions, but many considering EVs don’t realize that the infrastructure isn’t common yet. Thanks for watching.
