  • In order to remove a generator stator and armature you will need a puller, socket set, WD40, steel rod, hack saw, tap and a bolt. Every generator is different so do what makes sense for you and the machine you are working on. You can damage your engine, stator or rotor when performing this procedure so do not rush.

    *100% best **Generater.Systems** I have used. A test for hurricane prep here in Louisiana: three AC units, 5000, 5000 & 8000, 3 fridges, 2 device power setups, 4 flat screens....AND I had 40% of the power meter to spare.*

    The thumbnail overlay showed 'EASIEST WAY TO REMOVE AN ARMATURE' and I agree implicitly; i.e., have you do it. Good vid.

    Absolutely perfect! My issue was a good five horse side shaft motor and a fried generator. I had everything I needed except the rod. The motor is on the curb now with a price tag on it. Thanks!!!

    Good job! On my generator to get the housing off I just tapped gently with a hammer on the side and it came off with no puller necessary. When you actually did pull the armature off there is a threaded plug you can buy to put in the spark plug hole to keep the piston from moving so you can tighten down on the bolt without the flywheel turning.

    Put water down the hole instead of a rod to get rotor off. Then the bolt . It works .. fill hole completely with water then put bolt in . As you tighten the bolt the rotor pops off. Think it sounds crazy? So did I until I did it. Ive done 10 or more like that and it works every time . Obviously you have to stand the generator on its end to do it. Try it sometime.

    We have used the ruclips.net/user/postUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

    Thanks. I hadn't done that one before and needed a hint. Taking apart the coleman 5K generator a friend gave us with bad engine, it had threads in the end already and the first bolt I tried on it from the spare bolt drawer fit perfect. That was interesting luck.

      TnMtnRdr having threads is good luck never mind finding the right bolt on the first try.

    At least when the engine is junk you don't have to worry about damaging the threads on the end of the tapered crankshaft. Different story for a working engine.

    • @jcondon1
      @jcondon1  4 года назад

      Correct. I use water to remove them when I think damage may occur to the crank threads.

    Sorry, should have noted that. Do not have that info now. All I did was remove the bolt from the rotor, measure the diameter with a caliper went online to find the recommended tap size. The original tap I used ended up being too tight so quickly changed the size.

      Garry Seloske I removed the spark plug, rotated the cylinder to bottom dead center and filled with rope to lock up the engine. You can see me doing that here ruclips.net/video/tX1sSLhNSio/видео.html

    Ever try a slide hammer? Gonna diagnose mine one more time, if rotor tests ok be great, have another identical alt I know works. Predators only last a yr no matter what, either engine goes or now alt. With it being 100 out all week might just buy a real one since I'm off grid

    James, love your videos, VERY educational! I've been a tactical generator technician, (military trained) for over 30 years, your examples are outstanding! My question to you is are you experiencing any carburetor quality issues when purchasing replacement OE types from Amazon? I get the impression there is a tremendous uptick in downsized main jet issues since many of my repairs, when using Amazon sourced carbs, begin to experience speed reductions when load is applied to the generator. The governor responds properly when manipulated however even with low load, a reduction of speed is noticed. I've even considered honing the main jet to a larger size which it generally improves performance but not the correct corrective action... but one that works. Your thoughts?

    • @jcondon1
      @jcondon1  Год назад +3

      Honda clone carbs work well. Have tried Subaru, Briggs and Tecumseh clones and had a lot of issues with the jetting being off. Oddly most have been too rich.

      What do you mean? The rod? If the rotor is still on, I use a magnet to remove it when needed. Otherwise you would have to tip the generator to get it out.
