    Awesome tip that really works!
Spent about 3 hours today fruitlessly trying to figure out how to remove a Briggs and Stratton engine from its induction generator rotor.
Tried your tip and all done in just 15 minutes and no damage, thank you so much, your a star!

Hadn't thought to thread the end of the shaft. Great idea! SAved me from buying 'another' puller to add to my collection and possibly ruin something in the process. THANKS!

I just loosen up the long bolt, then slam the end of the generator onto a big wood block. It has worked for me so far, but each generator design is different.
Good puller idea, I will definately keep it in mind!!!

Thanks man, I need to change the engine oil seal on a Vanguard 7.5 Briggs and Stratton Pro 4000 portable genset. I've been struggling with this exact dilemma and you've shown me what I need to do to remove that armature. Thanks donyboy.

Tried your method the other day and worked perfectly. Thanks for the great instructional vid. One thing I changed is I used A hardened rod (to lessen the chance of it mushrooming and getting stuck) and used A impact wrench instead of roping the cylinder.

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 2 года назад

One could dry putting lube into hole and grease nipple. If its tight enough grease pressure should be enough to pop it out with out danger of mushrooming rod, though bit messy and bit grease gets wasted there, though if there is connection hole outside it will leak from there if its not extremely stiff grease. How much force grease system has is telling from guys who have managed to crack cast iron parts when there has not been way for grease to exit and that some tracked vehicles use grease in cylinder to tension the tracks.

Great video. Same technique is used on Polaris ATV to remove the primary clutch from the engine, but polaris already has the threads in the clutch for the large screw in bolt. I have removed the bad armature from my older Generac L4001, I only wish I could come up with a sutiable replacement on this apparent no longer available replacement part. Complete engine awaiting repair if I ever manage to find an armature. Thanks again for the clear, concise video.

A friend sent me this video as I was having trouble removing the armature on my Lifan generator after the rod on the 190FD engine failed. I has resorted to banging on the armature with no success. Luckily the shaft had threads and after trial & error I got the armature off using my DeWalt impact wrench. Great video, thanks!! Andy

Great tip on the puller. I wouldn't have known that the armature was on a taper. Is there usually a shaft key involved or just the bare taper? If it is the taper alone that is transmitting the power to the rotor shaft, then I would be a bit leery of putting any lubricant other than light machine oil to prevent corrosion. The taper is meant to lock together.

love this channel, and others like Taryl and Mustie1 , with North America going crazy buying generators , the more generator videos you do the more views ... i guess we all want to know how to keep them running for as long as possible .... a push mower not so much but they are getting way more expensive than say 5 yrs ago .... thanks to you guys a dirty carb on my champion is no longer something i worry about , i do wish somebody would tear down and cross reference carbs and other parts on the newer line of Chinese Inverter suitcase generators , about 3-4 different lines of the same generators, Buffalo tools that sells the Sportsman line told me they will be stocking parts in the future, they at least have parts lists and schematics. the line I bought doesnt at all ...... Thanks for doing these videos

    Hi Guys
First, thread the inside end of your rotor tube with the appropriate size tap and find a suitable bolt with a good amount of thread. Stand the Generator vertically with the rotor at the top. Wrap a good amount of pipe tape on all the threads of the bolt you found. Fill the rotor shaft hole with water. Start the bolt into the end of the rotor shaft and using your favorite electric impact tool, run the bolt in fairly quickly and the hydraulic pressure will pop the rotor off the end of the crankshaft. Works every time. If its leaking around the threads allot, put more pipe tape on your bolt.
    Cheers
    Willy

Just found your channel. Wanted to say thanks for this great tip. Worked for me just like you described. My armature didn't quite do the same thing as yours but the result was the same. I tightened the bolt but dropped the wrench I was using and when I went to pick the wrench up the armature popped from just having some pressure on it. Ordering a new engine this week. Again THANKS for the informative videos. Take Care...

Dang. I wish I'd seen this last week. I tried everything I could think of, prying, pullers, mallet. I ended up buying a harbor freight tap n die set and doing the same exact thing (except no rope in the cylinder). As stuck as it seemed, I kinda thought it would just strip the threads right out, but it worked exactly like yours, popped right off and fell on the bench.

I just pulled apart a Companion 5250 (same as many of the Devillbis/ Porter Cable units). The bolt ended up snapping off when trying to tighten it up on the end of the rotor, but I hit the rotor with a hammer, and that in combination with the broken bolt putting pressure inside did the trick anyway. Luckily, this rotor and stator were completely burned up, so I was only saving the engine!

If I just remove the fan would strapping a box fan to the chassis dissipate the heat enough to make this a usable product again or am I screwed? Are there any work-arounds, 3d printed parts, aftermarket, etc??
