As someone that’s studying for the BS 7671 exams along with other exams, i find this helpful af👌🏻along with the funny edits here and there makes the video’s class😂keep up the good work mate! Helping me out a shit ton!
Nice logical fault finding sequence. Good to see you testing all the circuits out and going into the appliance for a deeper investigation of the fault.
Yeah might aswell, was there like 40min so way under the hour slot I allow! Most would just turn it on and leave 😂
Great video, thank you. Really helpful is also the summary at the end. Neat
Yeah fault finding is definitely out he box thinking at first! You do much of it?
Nice diagnostic, very logical
Cheers matey!
Thanks for the video. Anything on fault finding is good for me.
No worries! I’ll film some other fault finding vids. Always find it within the hour!
Good video! Interesting watch
Cheers lad
Great video pal🎉 Forgot to ramp test RCD..
Cheers lad, can’t film it all 😂 trying to keep track of the job, the RUclips time line and a Tik tok timeline is hard to manage 😂
The resistance changes on the element when heated
So true so if your getting bad readings cold it’s going to get worse!!
Very interesting video and I subscribed, the background music though spoils it. Please consider omitting it in the future.
Yo man cheers!
Hey dude
Resistors in parallel explains the low “cumulative” IR
1/RT=1/R1+1/R2….
Nicely done
Like it lad 👌 slightly different to fault finding using a clamp meter. Never get when people say the last electrician couldn’t find it as it wasn’t tripping at the time they came 😂
Perfect example of the process of RCD fault finding fluke MFT bro 🤘
Yes my guy! Haha great testers 😀 don’t think there’s any other ways, please let me know if you know!
We had a new oven that kept tripping the RCD. I found about 7 out of 9 elements had poor insulation I rang the importer direct. To my surprise they were very relaxed about it and sent me complete set. I fitted them and it gave about 15 years service
Hi ,man am Enoch from Ghana I really watch your videos. Am Electrician too
Biblical name, like it. Thank you for commenting and liking the vids. Really helps grow the channel. What videos would you like to see Enoch?
Great video. Thanks 😊
Cheers ash! Love to help people ❤️
I also have an intermittent fault that trips the RCD..I suspect it's the shower ( doesn't heat the water, just mixes). I will wait to get a basic insulation tester, I only have ordinary DMM.. Would that also give me an indication?
Thinking ahead, would a consumer unit with RCBOs be better?
Btw what area do you cover in the UK? I am in Reading area.
Yeah that a good 3 hours for us, could charge you a good £500 to cover but best to get a local firm in for like £150-200. Basically do what I did in the video, if it’s the shower, get the same make and mode and replace it. Check the out of the isolator with it off to check it’s the shower not the cabling
Most useful, thanks. I have EXACTLY the same problem (cooker tripping the RCD when in use). I am going to get the cooker checked by an approved appliance engineer. You have done a (middleman) electrician out of a job somewhere...😃
Haha 😂 well I always give free advice over the phone for fault finding if it’s user end fault finding. Always do my self out of work or a £160+vat emergency call out. Always good to help. ❤️
Ive had a couple of times a suspect rcd that wouldn't trip even with the test button. It turned out to be a neutral to earth fault on the 6mm feeding the hob.
Unusual because as we all know, that that kind of fault WOULD trip the rcd !!!
Great name 😂
Yes mate, I’ve been black to a few where previous electrician changed over the RCD but it didn’t resolve the issue. You need to disconnect the neutral and line of the outgoing and then do an RCD test. Defiantly had that before with the test button not working with a neutral to earth fault. Was a socket screw, screwed into the neutral.
What happened to rin tin tin the turd? Haha 😂
@@finneyelectrical You tube changes it as far as I'm aware to 2 differnt old accounts!!
Not sure why !!
@@finneyelectrical i can only assume that the earth was at the same potential as the neutral!! I.e. a very poor earth. !!
Good findings but take away the annoying music and speak slower 😂
Ahh about the chill vibes 😂 do I need elocution lessons?
Hey mate in this situation, before taking the oven apart, would it be worthwhile testing earth leakage on each circuit protected by the rcd? Possibly other circuits could have too many milli amps of earth leakage combined from appliances to cause intermittent tripping? great vid!
Heya Samuel! Cheers for the watch, what videos would you like to see?
So we tested everything and it was all clear but the oven. We knew the oven was the problem but then gave the customer a bit more bang for bucking pulling the oven apart.
How would 0.8M Ohm I.R. trip an RCD ? 230/800,000 = 0.0003mA. Watching to end, you advise that expansion during oven heating may lower the IR, plus good point about parallel paths 1/R1 + 1/Rn = 1/ Rtotal.
Basically that, there may not be an isdue currently but that less than one Meg points towards that as being the issue
Poxy ovens...👺👺. The usual suspect..good Vid bud. 💥💥
Yes! That and outside lights! You a sparky yourself?
Guilty as charged...#Electrical/Telecom Engineer
Ha like it, hope your not one that strings his telecom on an angle across a grid ceiling in 2 min flat 😂
👌
Would you do anything different?
Within the first minute, my money was on either the cooker or boiler.
Yeah or outside light 💡
How do you take the neutral out. Do you mean the main neutral lead to the isolator or each circuit individually
RCD off disconnects the neutral, main switch disconnects the neutral and taking each circuits neutral removes that link between neutral to earth, meaning disconnects the TN of a tncs or tns or a link between neaitral to earth in a TT
It’s at the 3 minute mark I don’t get as I don’t think I see you actually take the neutral out for each one. So I’m not sure what was going on mate.
@Jim804 yeah took the neutral for testing that circuit so when you test you should get >200Mohm or at least over 1Mohm. Anything under that shows there’s an issue in that circuit. Then do line to cpc and check that. Obviously just turning off the mcb disconnects any links to other circuits.
👍❤👌
Heya man! Cheers for liking and commenting, can’t wait to see the channel grow! Loads coming, watch this space. What stuff do you want to see on the channel?
