I love how like wasted effort or product there is when you see a professional work. If that was me the bricks would be all over the place and there'd more mix on the floor than between the bricks. Whenever I see work done with care like this, I think the person had a good teacher and also enjoyed their apprenticeship.
I hope your pre-op appointment happened and you soon get a date for getting your hip sorted. Lovely video guys, you're both always a pleasure to watch.

Hi Steve &Alex. The wall didn’t look good. Now you two are on it. It’s going 1000:times better. Made good progress on day one. I say it all the the time you two make it look so easy. Have a good week 👍
I've just had my first op after yrs of suffering with canal stenosis, having had 3 fused discs separated with new washers and some titanium springy things hopefully for a bit of mobility eventually,I worked in agony for best part of 10yrs before having to admit defeat,I'm a joiner by trade but I really do feel your pain steve... Best of luck with your op and a speedy recovery........Take care
I'm glad that they are finally getting on with giving you a date for your hip Steve, you could tell by your face you are in pain. Its good to see Alex back with you. your son is a godsend take care, my best regards as always Ken

I hope you’ll get some relieve from your hip soon steve .. it’s no joke fighting through the day while you actually should be resting Job looking good as usual . Take care guys
nice to see Alex today while i was relaxing after a crazy 2 days i watched homes under the hammer and the bloke had built a so called wall I think he needed to knock it down, but the one you are building is going to last and last ,thanks for the video
Hope youve had your preop done and got date for hip op. Cant imagine the agony of turning and twisting in your job. Take care my friend.x Hilary & Brian
Jeez, that internal block skin is rough. Must have thrown the blocks from next door to get them that bad!🤣 Of course your excellent brick and blockwork makes it look even worse. Good job it’s being hidden!
Hopefully by now you've had your hip done😢, like you said, self-employed is a bummer in such situations, Alex is well capable now and you mustn't rush your recovery 🧱👍
Well, was a Union Bricklayer for 15 years and my own Masonry Construction company. Doing Brick, block, papers concert slabs, driveways all faze of Masonry construction. Just turned 60 I'm done. Have needed my hip done for almost 10 years, getting my other one in 6 months. Jobs like this were a bitch and I feel for you. The last 5 years I was in so much pain.
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Good for you Steve, when I see you walk I feel your pain. Hard to keep your mind on your work when in such pain. Going for the other hip in February. This past season its the first season I have not worked as a Union Bricklayer or my own Masonry company in over 40 years and the last 10 in pain. The funny thing is I miss it. The one hip is almost healed. Good luck Steve, just feel into your channel and going to go back and catch up some of your old videos. Keep up and see how your doing, when it's all done your going to be glad and wonder why you waited so long, stubborn, like me. Good luck Steve
Why did the customer want a 400 mm cavity ? If they had chosen less you could have tied the walls together, which looking at the block wall, would have offered good support.
I'm not criticising here but if that was my house I would want to take down the crappy block wall too and create a normal width cavity with wall ties. I know it's more money but if I buy houses I normally have to live in them. Looking forward to the next episode. Oh and Steve good luck with your surgery. 👍
I know what you mean about being self employed and carrying on, I slipped at work and broke mine, snapping part of the ball off and losing 40mm in height on my lefthand side. I broke it at 2.30 in the afternoon and not knowing what I'd done carried on till 7 at night then had an hours drive home from Southport to wigan and when I turned the van engine off the adrenaline which had kept me going stopped and boy was I in pain.
@@SteveAndAlexBuild not as grim as 10 months off work with no wages coming in and back then 2012 bang up to date with my tax and insurance and being self employed I was entitled to nothing from the state

You seem too young for a new hip, I can see you struggling in pain the last dozen or so videos. I guess a hip can be replaced. Not so much my back. But at 68 years old and 48 years in construction I am not in as much pain as I expected two decades ago or as much pain as you seem to be. What is your expected recovery time before you get back to work? Did you schedule it around what would be vacation time?
Blimey I could build better than that wall. Good job lads. I'm looking at the Ridge and are curious Alex if dad has dumped his old wallet for the Ridge ? Cheers
Did you put in some expanded metal mesh to bond the pillar together? I see old habits dieing hard doing finish pointing on the return you expected to be rendered. I know that time is money for the self employed, but please do give your hip time to heal before you go back to work and even then ease yourself in very carefully.
