My poor mans fix was to buy 15" rubber bungie cords and run them across the bush guard leaving about 1" between them. These are strong enough to stop any tree branches from going through the grill guard and damaging the tractor when using the grapple. My grill is still intact and the $20.00 fix works just fine! Takes me a whole 3 minutes to remove them when I put the grapple away for the winter. If it wasn't for your video I wouldn't have even thought of protecting my new expensive purchased B-2601......Many Thanks.
I was laughing out loud watching this video. I love your dry sense of humor. "Siri…" Thanks much for all the work that goes into creating these videos. You are making the world a much better place.
Hi Ed! You did a fantastic job on the brush guard! The moment you took that guard off and I saw it spring in a bit, I thought “I hope Ed noticed that and used a block of wood to hold it open.” And sure enough, you did. Yes, I use that same Hobart nozzle gel. Thanks for sharing!

I always have piles of cardboard for making templates for projects like this. Less room for error versus cutting in place before the bend. Looks good and should work well.
I started with the same damage you did. I used expanded metal, placed it on the front instead of the back of the guard. I bolted the material on instead of welding. I put the metal on the front so limbs did not get caught between the screen and the frame, and tended to slide past the guard. I bolted the screen as I figured it would eventually get damaged, and bolting would make replacement easier. You did a great job, and very nice looking

Great video, I have a Kubota L3901, three things I wonder why Kubota didn't do on my tractor: 1) Have a better brush guard, I damaged my front while hauling brush with my grapple. 2) Install lights (or light bar) on top of the ROPS. 3) Make a better PTO switch on the L3901
Like it! Just ordered a piece of that perforated steel to do the same. Whenever I use my grapple I'm always looking out for something sticking through and damaging my radiator. With this I can breathe a little easier. Thanks!

If you put the mesh on the front face of the Kubota guard, it would allow branch ends to slide off, instead of getting caught. I am going to have to do something like this on my New Holland tractor.
Nice job, Ed! Upon your recommendation, I have ordered the same steel you used, and contacted a friend who agreed to weld it on for me, so my B2601 thanks you for posting this! The perforated does look much better than the expanded steel. Great tip about the wood block too. I would not have thought of that! Cheers!
I’ll probably end up doing that to my new tractor ….can’t see spending $300 or more on a fancy brush guard insert! Then tricky part will be finding the right material..😅 Nice video …looks great
Great great video. Cannot believe it has on 63K views, but art is art. But HEY E. Man, always wear a mask when spraying primer or paint, even when you hold your breath and are upwind, it still will clog your brain. I personally didn't always wear a mask, on my channel, like during my Camaro rebuild video that's coming out, it will cause brain clarity... And one more thing E, wait for the primer to dry before adding the final top color coat. Sometimes you could get a chemical reaction from the primer when its not completely dries (read the label) Un dried paint will release gases and will bubble underneath the top coat, (if you don't allow it to dry at least 30 minutes) but I see that both the primer and the orange color, are the same manufacturer, so that helps too. You are an awesome teacher. Thank you for your hard work.
Cool stuff. I'm going to fab up a front hitch mount inside my brush guard this week. It's for a hitch mounted winch that can be attached/removed easily as needed for snow blowing on deep snow days. Your wood block idea to keep the mounts the correct distance apart will help big time!
I'm jealous Ed. You now have a Kubota camera and I don't. Perhaps on my next DIY project for my Kubota L2501 I will get my Kubota orange camera. It's all good. Always so much fun doing these projects.
Great video! I bought the same welder last year from TSC, they at that time had one heck of a sale on it. I use Dewalt tools had pretty good luck with them. The cordless jig saw I bought was an 18 volt and with adapter now uses 20 volt battery

Wow, that looks killer. Well done! I just checked my LS MT225E and it has metal mesh in the grill already, but I think I'm going to do this mod anyway. It looks great and if I bend one the metal mesh inserts or bust a headlight with a tree branch I'm sure the cost to replace either with OEM parts would easily exceed what the metal costs to do this mod. Well done video, and thanks for the wood block tip. Liked & subbed!

What's the brightest head lamp bulb you recommend to replace the factory bulbs that came with the Kabota 2601 tractor? Thank you. Btw, your videos are very helpful.
Hi Jim. If you have a front end loader, a brighter headlight won’t help much because the FEL blocks it. You can replace them with LED’s but the best solution is to add some ROPS mounted lights. Thanks for watching! -Ed

I've watched a few of your videos but this one is the one that pushed me over the top to subscribe! My dealer is holding my new LX2610 HSDC for me until my wooded 2000' driveway firms up from the frost. I am chomping at the bit to get my hands on it and the new grapple I'm getting. Now I'm thinking I can get my fix by swinging by the dealer and grabbing the brush guard to fabricate this upgrade before i even get my tractor! I might just do that. Thanks for the video and instructions... would you mind posting the link to the metal once more? I snooped around below but was not successful in finding it (?). Thanks again!!
Thanks so much! The link can be found in the video description, but give this a shot bit.ly/3qPxWQq. I ordered a 24x24 piece. I'm sure you're going to love the LX! Please drop by again and let me know how it's going. Much appreciated. -Ed

Yep. Punched a hole in my L3901 Grill first time out with the Grapple (which I love by the way). I didn't see your source of supply for the perforated metal - you said on line shopping?

Question: that is the second video from you I watched, and I wonder if you have ever use a "zip cut" (a thin cuting disc) on your mini grinder. It would be a lot easier to cut the steel you don't need. I use it all the time. Just saying...
@@MyClutteredGarage It looks better but not as strong. A big limb can break those welds and go straight into your grill. That being said. I'm going to use the same perforated metal on the front of my brand new MX6000 that I put a hole in the lower part of the grill yesterday. The added bonus is I won't see the hole so easily with the guard covering it. Thanks for the great idea. It looks much better than the expanded steel I was planning to use.
Hi Chuck. Great question. Because of the distance from the tractor grill, I’d say there’s zero reduction in air flow. If you were to place this perforated steel in a piece of ductwork, for instance, the 48% reduction would apply. Thanks for watching, and for your well thought question. -Ed
Do you think it might be just as well to put the perforated piece on the front side of the guard so if a limb hit it, the cross pieces of the guard would help hold its shape? I've been thinking about doing the same thing with my John Deere. I like the perforated look better than the expanded metal too. Do you know if the perforated stuff comes in half sheets or maybe quarter sheets? My brush guard looks like it's about the same size as yours.
That may be. I think placing inside is sufficient for my needs. Plus, I think it’s more aesthetic since all the welds are hidden. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Shame about the damage to the grill and bodywork although the alteration looks great. Well done. How is the welding holding out? Have you had to add further welds or is it all holding together?
Good idea with the perforated, branches easily get thru the expanded

@@MyClutteredGarage lol it looks great, I was just curious
Came out great! New subscriber!
Thanks, Ty. That's very much appreciated. Welcome!
Awesome job👍🏻🇺🇸
Thanks very much!
Good day Ed 🌞 Hey you have 500 sub's ( Many Congrat's Sir ! )😊 You are so funny Sir ( Land Pride Grapple ! ) x 5 🤣 Yes it is smart idea about using wood to retain the steel in place 👍😊Nice motocycle 👍 Nice Hobart Mig Welding, Yes in deed I do use that nose gel ( Lincoln Electric ) 🧐 Great welding and very well done Sir 👍Yes that is very nice Sexy Tractor Sir and have a great week Cheers !!!
RCAFpolarexpress - thanks very much Dave. That nozzle gel seems to work! Thanks for watching!
@@MyClutteredGarage Yes it working pretty Good and keep up the good work !!! Cheers !!!
Excellent ! A job well done. I am more concerned with eliminating the side to side shake in mine. Does the insert block the lights much ?, I think I might make cut outs for the lights on mine.
I would guess it probably blocks the lights 50%. But the front end loader blocks them 100% so it didn't matter to me. Thanks for watching! -Ed
-Ed
Great video. Love the "perforated metal" vs. "expanded metal". Look. What brand and color paint matches the Kubota? This brush guard is next on my B2601. Thanks for the inspiration.
Bob & Kim McDonald - thanks very much. I’m sorry I didn’t mention specifics about the paint in the video. It’s Rustoleum Farm & Implement paint in Kubota orange. I bought it from my local Tractor Supply. Good luck with the project! Thanks much. -Ed
thats a really nice mod on the grill. I like that metal you used with round holes. how well did the paint match? looks like rustoleum paint?
daveknowshow - thanks very much, Dave. I’m really happy with the way it turned out. The paint is Rustoleum implement paint in Kubota Orange. So it matches really well. Bought at my local Tractor Supply. Thanks for watching. I enjoy your videos too.
-Ed
@@MyClutteredGarage DUP! I didn't even expand the description! Thank you sir.
Did you get any overspray on that nice white garage door?
Just the camera! 😂🙄
I'm curious about your background: You wouldn't happen to be a pastor would you? You sound like a lot of the pastors I've known over the past 6 decades. You have that calm reassuring voice like Mr Rogers. Nice video.
Thank you for your kind comments. I’m not a pastor, but always consider a Mr. Rogers reference among the highest of compliments. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Yep. Punched a hole in my L3901 Grill first time out with the Grapple (which I love by the way). I didn't see your source of supply for the perforated metal - you said on line shopping?
Never mind, I looked further in your description and found your link. Thanks for you great videos - I'm a new time tractor owner and can use all the help I can find!

Does the added screen affect your head lights at night?
Yes, I would add extra lighting. If you have a front end loader, the factory headlight position is useless anyway.
Looks good. Any reason to making it on the backside of the guard vs front side?
Burt Tucky - thanks much. Primarily to hide my ugly welds 😉
@@MyClutteredGarage Ahh totally get it
I think the front is more supportive, doesn't depend on the welds as much and much better for larger debris.
Question: that is the second video from you I watched, and I wonder if you have ever use a "zip cut" (a thin cuting disc) on your mini grinder. It would be a lot easier to cut the steel you don't need. I use it all the time. Just saying...
Thanks Frank. Yes, I’ve started using them and they are amazing. 👍
Why not put the added steel protection on the other side of the brush guard? It seems to me that it would be better protection.
I actually thought of that. I just thought it looked better behind. Thanks for watching and commenting. Much appreciated.
@@jackrothaus2816 bummer. The first ding is the hardest. Thanks for watching! -Ed
Did it cut down your air flow too much? I looked at your link and it stated 48% air reduction. Thanks
Hi Chuck. Great question. Because of the distance from the tractor grill, I’d say there’s zero reduction in air flow. If you were to place this perforated steel in a piece of ductwork, for instance, the 48% reduction would apply. Thanks for watching, and for your well thought question. -Ed
Great video. I subscribed. I'm a tractor nut.
Thank you and welcome to the channel... and to the club! :)
Why not put the metal sheet on the outside of the grill guard?
But then you could see my ugly welds :)
Seriously though, that would work too. It was just an aesthetic choice. Thanks for watching! -Ed
Do you know if the brush guard is the same size on the Kubota L3901?
Hi Terry. I’m sorry but I don’t know the dimensions of the grill guard on the L3901.
I'm checking out the bees thumbs up my friends
Thanks very much!
The cup on your mig welder should cover your nozzle tip, it will give you better gas coverage.
He's using flux core wire, no gas required.
Shame about the damage to the grill and bodywork although the alteration looks great. Well done.
How is the welding holding out? Have you had to add further welds or is it all holding together?
Thanks! It’s all holding up well!
Where did you purchase the perforated steel from? Enjoyed the video.
Hi Rod. There’s a link in the description. Thanks for watching. -Ed
