Gordy, watching your video I found a solution to solve the problem of the brush guard from moving while welding. Measure your tractor Frame where your brush guard bolts to your tractor frame. With that measurement cut a 4x4 a little longer then the frame measurement and put it in grill guard screwing it tight. When you weld you won’t distort the brush guard and it will go back on the tractor very easily. Wayne from Wisconsin.
Enjoying all your tractor posts! I am a first time tractor owner, just purchased a Kubota L4701, and have been spending the last few weeks on RUclips, watching how to videos, as I need all the help I can get, learning to operate the tractor, and attachments. Also enjoy your music, as I am the jazz piano professor at Clemson University in SC. Merry Christmas!
Thanks and welcome to the channel HB! I like a little jazz too but I have found out that it is an acquired taste so to speak, so I don't use it too often. Thanks for tuning in. I hope some of the videos are helpful for you. Congrats on the new tractor and all the best!
Great job on the grill and what a good friend to have. I sort of feel sorry for that poor Sheppard walking into the shop while his Dad is welding though.
i am so glad to see how nice of a job you did. as a fabricator its nice to see someone do a quality upgrade done right instead of taking a gorgeous machine like yours and butchering it with a horrible job. looks good.
Good evening Kalvin. I really appreciate your comment and will share it with my neighbour Guy, tomorrow. He is very meticulous about everything, and I am very grateful for his help and his work. And I think your comment will make him smile a lot, for sure. Thanks for your kind comment. Cheers!
I’m inspired that you went from 1k subs to 26k in two years. I’m creeping up on my first 1k now. You’ve done a great job. Thanks for all the great content! -Ed
GP, thanks for walking us through this entire process. I've had some close calls myself and hadn't reinforced my front guard as you have done. My grill is a bit different but ......"if there's a will.......there's a way". Really nice video. Enjoy the warm months.
Hey Houndsman, I will> Lots of work to get done in a few short months. Thanks for the comments. I have had a couple of close calls with big branches so I feel much better having the expansion metal on the grill now. Be great ! And have a great week!
Thanks ODD! Pretty lucky Guy is really great in the workshop and helped me out. And just in time too. About 2 weeks after is when I got that big bend in it that you see now on the videos. Talk again soon.
Looks like OEM! Say hello to Guy for us! Now you will be safe for hard work in the woods. Again, congratulations for 1k subs. The next step is 10k! Thanks for sharing!
Hi GP, Steve Bradley way down south Newnan Ga. Glad I found your channel, enjoying it a lot. I have a Kubota L3301 and I will be installing a screen on my guard like yours. I also have a grapple and it can do anything. I will catch up on all your videos, thanks so much for taking the time to produce them.
Hey welcome Steve from Georgia!! Thanks - glad you enjoy them. Good call on putting the mesh on the grill. I knew I should do it, but of course I didn't until I had a near miss with a big branch that drove through and jammed in between the bottom of the hood and the frame. Whew! All good though cause I have the protection now. Cheers and have a great week!! Thanks for watching!
Good looking an great idea! Just got the B2601 today. Moved some stuff with forks and did some organizing with it. Think I am going to love this machine.
Gord stuff JD! Great to hear. I can't remember but is this your first tractor? And did you get weight to put on the back? Box blade or ballast box or something? So important. Cheers!
@@GPOutdoors Had a bx kubota then went to a 1025r and decided it was just not quite enough for our 6 acres. Now back to kubota and glad went with the B2601. Have a ballast box, grapple, tiller, rear blade, pallet forks, and an older 4 foot rotary mower for the woods. Really looking forward to using grapple and some spring maintenance!
LOL Gregg! Yup, I am pretty fortunate to have Guy as a neighbour - I would be pooched if I had to try to do it on my own. Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Cheers!
Hi GP... Great Idea for the preventing damage to the grill... There is a lot of $$ parts behind that grill... Enjoyed the video and I see that your flying friends like you camera lens... Lol... Chief {NYS/ADK}
Nice looking addition. You may want to check out Paul and Kathy Short’s channel. Paul has done lots of Mods for his BX24. One that comes to mind that might be good for you is light guards to protect them from bumps very easy to happen working in the woods.
This is now my first official mod to our B2301. While moving some brush today my heart stopped as I saw a 2" branch shoot over the bucket heading for the grille of the tractor. Luck was with me and it angled over the hood. I won't tempt fate and will get on this project pronto!
Good morning J! Good stuff. I had a few close calls too which put this one up on the priority list. About 2 weeks after i got it on, the dent in the top that you see now in the videos happened. True. If I had waited longer, that dent would have been right through my front hood. Super happy Guy helped me get it done. If it's helpful, that expanded still only cost me about $18.00 CDN and Guy knows how to weld, so it was very inexpensive. I got the Kubota paint from the dealer. Good luck with yours! Cheers!
After I do this mod my second is to paint all spring clips etc. bright orange. Lost another one today in the ground debris. If someone with a metal detector came to scan my forest they could make a fortune in recovered clips and other small parts.
I'm going to do this. Unfortunately, at less than 10 hours, I had a 3-inch log go through my grapple, between the loader and the hood, and bent my grill "guard". Luckily, it was easy to bend back into shape and only minor scuffs on the hood. Let's just call it a Christening of the B2601 :)
LOL Ed! Good call. I had several close calls until I got the mesh welded in. And honestly, less than 1-2 weeks after I got the mesh installed, is when I bent the mesh guard with some debris. Super happy I installed it and saved the errant branches from going through the front grill of the hood. So lucky and happy I spent the $20.00 and the time to get it done. Good luck and enjoy!
Great video Gordon, amazing having a fine friend like Guy to help you out with this design. My friend who could help me weld and build a similar shield lives in Montreal’s south shore where I grew up. Have to go to a welding fabricator I guess. Cheers as always.
Good morning Sunjay! yes, I am very lucky. Guy is very knowledgeable and has a lot of skills. If you do decide to do it, don't forget to have it welded on the inside of the grill - not the outside or it will interfere with you FEL. Cheers and best of luck!
Bullitt, thanks a bunch. I have learned so much from your videos over the last year and I thought it was only appropriate and respectful to let folks know that I learned it from you. I like the new name, and keep up the great videos. Cheers and have a great week my friend.
I am glad my videos have helped you. Again congrats on 1k. I have literally been think for months about a new name. I wanted to change it last year and I could not come up with anything. Have a good week.
Hey Bullitt, they have helped me a lot. You always take the time to explain things very clearly and it is always a learning experience for me. Thanks again and be well "Tractor Tech"! ( ok, you'll always be Bullitt to me, :)) Cheers!
To damn funny that I see this today as last week I spent $158. For the left headlamp assembly after running a stick between the tines of my grapple a week after I got it lol, keep up the good work
Sorry to hear Whiskies. Murphy's law I guess. Surprisingly I had been putting it off for a while and about 2 weeks after I got it done, is when I bent it. Hope you get her all fixed up! Cheers!
I like the way that looks... might have to beg to get to try that, but I think it might be worthwhile to do so, as we’re planning on getting a grapple.. congrats on 1k! Wishing you all the best from MN! Take care.
Hey Jackson! Thanks so much - pretty humbled on the 1K, but I have some great subs like you and I appreciate you helping me out since almost the beginning. Good luck on the Grapple and talk to you soon. Cheers!
Hey John, thanks so much for the support. I have been watching your channel and man, you really know how to finesse that Backhoe! Love watching your vids. Have a great week and thanks again!

@Xander Javier Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Hey Outdoorsman, hopefully you found a couple good pointers from this one and can use them when you build yours. Thanks for watching ! Cheers and thanks !!
Hey it looks great you guys did an awesome job on putting it together it should help keep something from going through the grill of the hood I have to make brush guard for my Kioti I want to make like a toolbox combination grill guard to go on the front but yes it can help save the hood my friend had a helper helping him last fall and they picked up a tree log with the loader and it went right into the grill of his big McCormick loader tractor which is only about 2 years old so that will not be cheap to fix have a safe and great week take care !! Kioti Curt 😀👍🚜
Hey Curt, thanks for the comment. I owe it all to my neighbour Guy, he is really good at work with welding and other things. But I feel much better now that it is done. Thanks for watching and all the best to you !
Morning Teddy Bear! So nice to hear from you. Thanks - very nice to have hit the 1k. Yup. Its black fly season here - it came late of course but oh yeah, they are pretty heavy here now. Lots of bug spray! LOL! Cheers and have a great week!
Happy I finally got it done Mech! Feeling a little more confident now. I have had a few big branches push through and happy I have some protection now. Cheers my friend!
I want to build something that is more all encompassing. Even with something similar I have managed to put two holes in the plastic hood grille with errant branches while clearing brush. Both came through the area where the factory grille guard "necks down".
Hi Andy. Sorry to hear that! Hopefully the damage wasn't too bad overall. Tough when you are working with forest and errant loads but you try your best and perhaps sometimes it causes a bit of a challenge. Keep smiling and all the best to to you!
Just got a new tractor with a grapple, as bad as I want to go to the woods with it I will not until the brush guard has this treatment. Just not worth it. Looks good.
Hey congrats on the new tractor Dan! Just be very watchful as you use the grapple. A guard is great and I still haven't put a guard on my new LX2610 but all good - just be mindful as you dig into that pile. You'll do great! All the best!
Been meaning to ask the general public, and this film reminded me... Do dogs get flash blinded, or suffer long term damage from looking on as a welder works? I always shut my dog out of the garage... Thoughts?
LOL Andy!! You have a great sense of humour! Yes, I still have some left but the driveway is definitely getting bigger lately. :)) Cheers and have a wonderful week!
Good morning Scott. I am pretty sure it will but I always have something on the loader so the headlights are always blocked by something. I do work after dark more often in the winter (cause it gets dark so quickly) but that is why I put the work lights on the top of the ROPS (video # 9 I think). They are great little units I found. 1260 Lumens and the middle bulbs of the lights are spot lights and the outside bulbs are flood light pattern so it lights up the front and back of the work area perfect. Thanks for watching and for commenting. I always enjoy reading them! Cheers and have a great week!
Nice job! Might just have to do this on my L3301! Question, why do you like to run the guard forward as opposed to locked back? Can't seem to work that one out...is there an advantage of doing so?
Hey Greg, The only reason is because it gives you 12 inches of extra space for opening the hood latch and access into the engine compartment. Putting it into the second position doesn't make it terrible to open and access under the hood, but leaving it in the wider position just leaves lots more room to access under the hood. I guess it is more os a personal preference thing. Thanks for watching and for commenting, I really appreciate it. Have a great week!
Do you have anything protecting the bottom? I have an L 3901 and while using the grapple, a limb with a fork in it came under the machine and took out all the blades on the radiator fan. I was lucky the radiator wasn't affected.
Good morning Keevan. So sorry to hear about that but no, I have not done anything to protect the bottom. I appreciate you sharing that with me as I honestly never thought of it being an issue. Cheers and hope it was not too expensive to fix.
Looks like it was made at the factory. I have wondered why they don't make them that way in the first place. The grill guard serves very little purpose stock. They appear to me to be more for looks than function. Gary from Iowa
Good morning Gary. Yes I think the same. After a few close calls with limbs coming through I kind of thought it would make sense to sell them with mesh already in them. Cheers!
Greetings from a fellow Ontarian! I didn't see anything bracing the hydraulic cylinders on the loader arms when you were working under it. Many guys use a length of angle iron or something similar to prevent them from falling (on you) if you lose hydraulic pressure. Many larger machines include them (they're painted red on Caterpillars). Did you have it secured some other way that wasn't shown on camera?
Hey good day Aaron and thanks for watching. I did not have it braced separately but under the right hand side of the seat there is a Hydraulic "Lock" for locking the loader in its current position. Always need to be safe cause I have a wife and kids expecting me to be around for a while (:))) but I figured that lock would be enough. Let me know if you think I should have done something else as well. Thanks for commenting - I always appreciate advice and comments. Cheers and have a great week!
I'm not an expert by any means (I don't even own a tractor [yet]) but I'm learning and watching videos like yours; I wasn't aware of the lock leaver you speak of. I just did a little searching and I think it locks the leaver/valve from moving accidentally -- which is good, but I think there could be a scenario where a fitting or hose broke and lost pressure and it would still fall on you which is why guys use a chunk of metal or some machines have a physical piece that you can insert when the FEL is at full extension.
Thanks Aaron. I'm not an expert either yet so I appreciate your thoughts. I have seen where guys will put a 2x4 or something under it so I will check it further in the manual/dealer. Always important to be safe for sure cause there is a lot of weight and torque/power. Thanks again for taking the time to reach out. And thanks for watching. Hope you get a tractor soon. It changes things a lot I can tell you. I wish I had got it years ago. Have a great long weekend!
Thanks! Hoping a B2650 with a cab is in my future maybe next year. Here's a couple links that may be helpful and better explain/show what I'm talking about with regards to the FEL lock: www.tractorbynet.com/forums/owning-operating/348050-fel-hydraulic-cylinder-lock.html ruclips.net/video/8Vj-faEnzwA/видео.html Cheers!
A good choice I think Aaron assuming it meets the size and needs of your property. Thanks for the discussion on this. I read the conversation at the link and I pulled out my manual. You are correct. The 'Valve Lock' (I mentioned under the seat) will assist with accidental actuation/temp hold but does not prevent "Leak Down" of the valves. Good catch and thanks. Very helpful. And possibly saved my noodle. :)) Have a great weekend and thanks for watching and the helpful comments. Keep an eye out for the 'Orange Leaf Events' at Kubota. Good promotional pricing and offers so probably a great time to purchase when they run that promotion. Cheers!
There needs to be a Shark Tank for tractor people, for guys like your neighbor . They would give him $300,000.00 U.S. for 33% of his grill guard upgrade buisness. Then turn around and sell the whole buisness plan to a giant manufacturer for $4000,000.00.
congrats on 1st milestone can only get bigger now have you ever watched you-tuber named PAUL SHORT if not check him out he has over 40 modifications he has made & now selling the parts oh yeah he is also in Canada
@@GPOutdoors yeah I am very forgetful, so I did different things to help me with that. I made a automatic watering bucket from a old toilette valve. I also made a feeder that holds a 50lb bag of feed, asid from Collecting eggs every other day they dont require much.
Hey Dave, thats a great point. The grill guard will definitely limit the light but it was limited already with the front attachments so I had put in switched work lights on the ROPS ( I did a video on the installation- #12 I think) with 1260 lumens lights which I always rely on. I haven't ever relied on the front head lights because I always have an attachment on the front which always blocks the headlights. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and for commenting. Cheers and all the best!
Morning RC. Thought about primer but not too fussed on rust on that part. But generally, yes, should have primed first. Thanks for watching and for commenting. Cheers!
I'm gonna do that to my L2501 guard. Guy did a bang-up job on it. One thing tho, I didn't see you wearing hearing protection using the angle grinder. Bad idea. Always wear your PPE when operating power tools. I managed to make it thru 2 years in Viet Nam in the Army without hearing impairment and I use hearing and eye protection all the time. You only have one set of each, so take care of 'em. Another great video. I also found out that Messicks can get the HLA grapples. I imaging the shipping would suck to Calif. Moving on to video #39. Cheers!
Gordy, watching your video I found a solution to solve the problem of the brush guard from moving while welding. Measure your tractor Frame where your brush guard bolts to your tractor frame. Congrats! Great video
Hey thanks O&D. And nice to hear from you. Hope you enjoy your long weekend coming up. Cheers!
I was thinking of doing the same thing. Nice job. Congrats on the 1000.
Thanks David! I've had a few close calls lately so figured I shouldn't put it off any longer. Feels better now that it is done. Cheers!
great videos
Thanks Douglas! Cheers!
Nice job! You bet me to it. Have a good week/weekend. Latter
Happy I finally got it done Mech! Feeling a little more confident now. I have had a few big branches push through and happy I have some protection now. Cheers my friend!
I was half a sleep when I watched this CONGRATULATIONS ON 1000 SUB'S!!! You deserve it.
LOL! Thanks Mech. Have a great week!
@@GPOutdoors Thx! I admit to not being an expert yet...just got to 50 hrs.
Nice mod!
Thoughts?
Hi RR- I think they may - we usually do the same with him, but were remiss on this occasion. Thanks!
U do have hair! U always have a hat on so I didnt know. I am bald so I always have a hat on lol.
LOL Andy!! You have a great sense of humour! Yes, I still have some left but the driveway is definitely getting bigger lately. :)) Cheers and have a wonderful week!
Did you put angle iron in the loader cylinders while working under it. If not you need to do that to protect your self.
Thanks Tom! Excellent advice I have learned since back then. Thanks though for the great advice. Cheers!
What size metal was that?20 GA (.036) 1/4 hex holes on 3/8 centers????
Good morning Tom. I can't remember now and I no longer have the tractor. Sorry I couldn't help more.
What kind of trailer is that? Specs? I have been thinking about purchasing a trailer to haul my B2650 with cab . . .
Good morning Daniel. That was the dealer's trailer so I don't have any info on it. He used it to drop the tractor off for me. Enjoy the weekend!
@@GPOutdoors Thank you sir
If you would have oriented the expanded metal perpendicular to the way you did it’d start to look like an Allis Chalmers model B!
LOL Joe. I just googled it and yup, it would have. I just learned a little about the Model B. Cheers and thanks!
Good morning GP, I enjoy your channel. The grille guard looks great. Did if affect your highlight any or do you use your tractor much after dark ?
LOL! That's classic. Thanks Jean!
congrats on 1st milestone can only get bigger now
have you ever watched you-tuber named PAUL SHORT if not check him out he has over 40 modifications he has made & now selling the parts oh yeah he is also in Canada
Good day Mean Joe! Thanks - I have and watch his videos. Thanks for watching and for the support! Have a great weekend - all the best!!
You need some chickens... they really knock down the bug problems during the summer!!!
LOL. I would love to have chickens but I am pretty sure They wouldn't want me looking after them. Thanks! LOL.
@@GPOutdoors yeah I am very forgetful, so I did different things to help me with that. I made a automatic watering bucket from a old toilette valve. I also made a feeder that holds a 50lb bag of feed, asid from Collecting eggs every other day they dont require much.
Thanks PB! Maybe as I get more confident with the property and things, I might give it a try. Cheers and have a really great week!
@@GPOutdoors Thanks and you do the same!!
I put bright LED headlights in. I think the grill guard will limit that light. Have you tried it? Do you plan on adding a light bar?
Hey Dave, thats a great point. The grill guard will definitely limit the light but it was limited already with the front attachments so I had put in switched work lights on the ROPS ( I did a video on the installation- #12 I think) with 1260 lumens lights which I always rely on. I haven't ever relied on the front head lights because I always have an attachment on the front which always blocks the headlights. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and for commenting. Cheers and all the best!
is this a 24"x24" piece of expanded metal mesh ? I see those for sale at my local store.... will that size be big enough ?
Good evening Anthony. I believe that should be big enough. Good luck with your build!
nice videos how about putting the price on items thanks eric australia
Thanks Eric! And thanks for the suggestion too. Have a great week and all the best!
Paint a light coloured primer first and then the orange
Cheers!
Good morning Tim! Yes, I am very fortunate to have such a great neighbour. Good point on the PPE. Noted good sir. Be well!
And most importantly, Tim, thank you very much for your service. GP
I just turn my volume down
Patent it and sell the idea to Kubota!
