Roubo-style Workbench Introduction

- This workbench is based on a design by the 18th century French carpenter and author André Jacob Roubo. Guido Henn, the German master cabinetmaker, built it for Fine-Tools.com. Henn has 20 + years of experience as a woodworker, teacher, and has written for a number of woodworking publications. A modern adaptation with high-quality accessories first became possible because of the hardware developed and produced by the American manufacturer Benchcrafted. As Henn built the prototype bench, we also drew up a detailed set of plans and made explanatory videos so that any reasonably experienced woodworker could build their own Roubo-style workbench.

I'll admit, I've been lusting over various work benches for a long time. I've always heard about Roubo split-top workbenches being the holy grail of work benches. I've seen them in various magazines, short video clips etc. But I've have never seen someone go through all the options for the split top or the insert. Brilliant. I'm sold. I have to make one of these now.

This has got to be one of the best work benches I have seen. But after looking at the price to build one here in the UK, With importing the hardware from the USA you would have to be extremely rich. I think i will look at a more economical work bench. Why do firms try to stitch people up? The hardware is a basic screw tread with a heavy flywheel!
Thats like 10k between the tools and the table... beautiful work, I can only dream of having a workbench and tools that nice. Stellar documentation on the plans by the way! It makes all the difference when people know how to use a camera as well as their tools. Thanks for sharing,

It's a good idea to let beginners like myself watching the whole processes in one clip. Great work! I like the way you use different colour of woods to make the workbench more interesting.
