my father worked in Amman for close to three years in the late 1980's. everybody in the family got to go there except me. I got to see him when he worked later in Oman. always wished I could have made the trip to Jordan, however, I was in college at the time and couldn't meet the schedule and had to stay in school. maybe some day... my dad liked to see as many wadis as he could.

Looked like he was using a guard for some of his cuts where he could. He’s probably very aware, but good on you for pointing it out in case he’s not. But based on the quality of his shop tools, and his woodworking skills I’m guessing he may have a condition where touching the stock irritates, or just gives him an unpleasant feeling (some neurological conditions make it painful to feel certain textures) but man that looks like it’s gonna be one hell of a table, bench or whatever he’s making. Just beautiful.

Yes, pure Tung oil and Minwax tung oil finish which is harder than tung oil alone, I think it is a mixture of tung oil and some kind of lacquer. You can use poly or lacquer alone! Just give the workbench some sort of protection.

@@TheWoodCrafter1 Ahhhhhh. I was just trying to find out how you were acquiring these presumably costly wood species. I didn't know if it was due to close proximity, or if you were just purchasing the wood and having it shipped at a premium. We're I am, if I just want to go out to the woods and find wood to turn my bowls, vases, etc, it's going to be oak 95% of the time. Also some dogwood, walnut and pecan here and there. I'd love to be able to purchase blanks of some of the wonderful exotics from Central and South America and Africa, but they are quite costly.

@@anthonybeasley7076 I see!! Actually we have Oak in Jordan, but you don’t need to touch that 🙂 it is not allowed to cut these trees, but you can buy lumber from the lumber yard, it is still relatively expensive but affordable, and maybe because Jordan is approximately close to Europe you can find beechwood cheaper than other wood species, I prefer walnut, cherry and maple but they are not cheap, so I keep them for smaller projects. 🤝
