I preferred the look of the refina from day one but got the speedskims to support British manufacturing and wide availability. In purely quality of finish I’d say the refina are better.
would be interesting on a update on this subject and your thoughts still about it.. if you still using it or stuck with ox? and what is the difference between the plastic blade one and the stainless steel blade, when and where to use them
These plastic things are only used to flatten and not finish. They also need material so avoid the temptation of farting around with the first coat. Get it on , flatten , wait , finish
That looks nice. I don't know why there saying it's new. Refina sent me 1 similar 4/5 yrs ago. Exactly the same handle, Frame. They gave me the fitting to attach to their pool. Got that as well. I think they called it rollgrip spatula. And the pole attachment is called rollgrip attachment. Exactly the same design
why does every company that sells these types of tools always put sharp angles on the ends..? makes no sense since its not like you will use these to perfect crisp edges
The sharp corners are a side effect of cutting the sheet material used for the blade. To soften the corners repeatedly consistently in a production line is really difficult - esp as they don’t want people to start saying “mine wasn’t as nice as my mates” …
Got the speed skim- now seen the Regina spats. Looks quite big. I’m small and struggle with the speed skim, so worry it might be too big to manage for me.
im confused to why so many spreads are putting on and flatting and not just throwing both coats on with the same gear? that means mixing up 4 times in a day if doing 2 gauges. makes absolutely no sense to me unless your slow as fuck
What do you think of the Skimflex Superspat? Seems a fair bit cheaper than the Ox or Refina, with similar handle to the Refina. Also, what lengths of spat would you recommend for beginners?
Been using refina spats for years this looks like a slightly updated version. Best you can get

I literally bought the Speed skim because watched your other video, got it yesterday going use it this weekend and BOOM this appears on my feed! :#
You know those free ox cookies you have been getting every week I think ox have definitely put them on hold for a while 😂
Had for couple 3yrs the old type 40inch 1 grey 1 0ff Amazon £45 just can’t replace blade etc but still good & sturdy 👍🏻

My mate just got the dewalt spatula he’s used all of them and the dewalt best by a long shot
Which one has he got? I wouldn’t mind trying dewalt I fancy something different to my speedskim st
@@dannykl6883 he has the 40 inch
@@dannykl6883 there very pricey
Ur right about the ox ergonomically it’s slightly flawed so the raf does seem better that said the ox has played a blinder for me in the past
Got the neila black. Why do you prefer plastic over the steel ones? Just asking?
Great! I’ve literally just walked through the door with a new Speedskim!😢

I've watched half a dozen of your videos can't remember when you used the refina plastic trowel?
Seen Alex Morley using a refina speed skim . Been debating on getting one and now I will
why does every company that sells these types of tools always put sharp angles on the ends..? makes no sense since its not like you will use these to perfect crisp edges
Totally
Because they're not plasterers.
I guess because they are mass produced items, and can't individually be hand finished to work like a seasoned tool.
The sharp corners are a side effect of cutting the sheet material used for the blade. To soften the corners repeatedly consistently in a production line is really difficult - esp as they don’t want people to start saying “mine wasn’t as nice as my mates” …
Just round the edges off like i do on my Marshall town trowel using a stone then no lines
They’re obviously popular cos I can’t find a 900mm in stock anywhere, even Refina don’t have them!
Good review _ looking forwards to trying the refina

So happy you have a splat on your head 😊
I thought I was the only one who gets covered in plaster :-)
Great video! Really enjoyed watching it.
What are your thoughts 6 months on? Did you have to round off the corners or did it just wear in ?
I’ve got the black Refina spat , awesome and I need an upgrade 😎
I've had the refina spat for years. Only thing I can see is they have put X skim on it.
Can you use this after sponge floating to take out the sponge marks or would a steel blade be better suited?
If your using a sponge mate steel blade 100 percent
This Refina speed skim has been around a while mate
Been using refina spats for a while now. Much better than the speedskims 100%
What grit would you use to sand it down?
Uk still doesn't seem to understand that on gib board you just have to skim the join.
Square edge board for skimming, tapered edge for tape and jointing. Skim a much better finish.
Can you trim edges like you did on the speedskim? Or even sand it? Great review mate
I hope so…I’ve not tried it yet ha!
yea i not like the grooves on the ox so might switch to 1 of these👍
I have the steal blades bend very easily
good work blaine !
Refina superskim have you seen them ones look good 👍👍
What size speed skim do you recommend for a 1st timer?
900mm is a god all rounder 👍
Вы гипсовой штукатуркой шпаклюете или шпаклевкой?
Gypsum
What's thr deal with plastic, wouldnt steel work better?.....you still have to trowel so I suppose just getting it flat is priority
It’s the man behind the tool.. not the tool in front of the man!
im confused to why so many spreads are putting on and flatting and not just throwing both coats on with the same gear? that means mixing up 4 times in a day if doing 2 gauges. makes absolutely no sense to me unless your slow as fuck
The quality of finish is undeniably better using a different mix to lay on with
Looks great. I would still fuck it up though 🤣
😂😂
So basically its the same as the old one but replaceable blade
👍👍

Try it on uneven walls and ceilings. I think that’s where the speed skim may win, it’s very forgiving
Have you tried the nela black
Never used a speed skim ever. You don't need one.
Of course, everyone should have wavy walls!
pointless
I use PLAZIFLEX same good
Better from ox speed
