So cool to hear the isolated drums from Never Meant
Drummers are the nicest people ever. That man is such a legend. I love how they are putting a spotlight on drummers.
Woah, I never knew he drummed traditional style. That’s awesome
This channel needs more subscribers
Flannel game strong
theyre playing never meant at the end
they're playing never meant at the intro
I mean, duh.
that's why I came tbh
Obvious, no need to point it out.
this drum part looks really intricate and hard to remember
when you write a song with your buddies, you memorize it gradually, creating piece by piece.
in the end, you'll remember it until the day you die, that's how deep it'll be in your brain.
A drummer for the ages.
I can't believe Steve has left American Football.
The band losses their engine.
Great news for you, brother
@@s.c.e.w yes, he's back! That's great news, indeed.
It'd be better news if they made it to Mexico City.
I was born in 98 and what he said about listening to the stuff from when you were born is so true
98 here too and i agree
98 here hahahaha
This drumbeat lives rent free in my head. The Mathiest 4/4 beat ever.
It's actually a 6/4 time, then 4/4 in the middle, and moves to a 6/4 again
@@dylanwesley3964 oh I see, thanks man
i always thought it was in 6/2
@@kril_29456/4, you could count it in 6/2 but it’d be slooow.
Its 6/4
Going back to this video is so sad, thanks for everything Steve ❤️
he's not dead
@@oxlip to me, hes dead
@@adhiandhika4936 lmaooo fair
@@adhiandhika4936this comment did not age well. Just saw American football perform in Indy last month and Steve was alive and well and sounding awesome as ever!
20k views, a year later and no dislikes WYAT
The troll in me wants to dislike the video now that you have pointed that out to me. However, the respect I have for American Football is far more than enough to cancel that shitty urge out.
Still no dislike this vid, wow
@@fransiskusrobisanjaya No longer the case. Always some ignorant asshole out there waiting to pounce.
Real Friends got me into American Football with their song "Home For The Fall". It was about 2016 and because I love that band I was interested to find out who this American Football group was. I found their debut album online and have been a fan on their music ever since!
I remember hearing that song and thinking they were referring to listening to football games on the radio or something lol.
surely he meant last.fm lol
last.fm was sick, used to download all those free songs lmao. And that's when i realize there are better music than in radios.
Everything's better with American Football
Steve grooves so hard
For real. He gets a great sound even with his snare so low. I don’t know how he does it.
0:36 he flips us off
He was talking about his wife lol
Should have explored the Math Rock aspect of the band. That takes drumming to a whole new level!
It was cool for him to mention "kids who were born the year it came out" cause I was born literally one day before LP1 was released
2:28 he almost dropped his stick
Such an amazing story- its like life happened for 16 years while they were sitting on this slice of genius
2:30 watch their kicks slowly creeping towards each other with each throbNice video, thanks.
There are numerous drum charts and videos claiming this beat is 4/4 6/4 3/4 12//8 so this is something of a fail isn’t it, No explanation of the beat!
It's not American Football, it's Americ
Anfootball
Such an innovative modern drummer.
synced the ending up to the song... started off good but gets a little confusing pretty quick haha
Caught DMS in Kalamazoo one time. Great!
Wow I had no idea that album was released in 98'. Doe's that mean American Football invented the "midwest indie" genre?
Why did he flick off his wife?
He is my teacher for writing on music!!
saw this on Facebook, love the idea, and i love american football. Thanks for this!
All the best drummers are into Can
4 minutes?
0:37 Steve Lamos just flipped me off.
man its so iconic n recognisable 😂
This is really cool. Love American Football, beautiful.
Did he flick us off and disguise it as a nose pick?
So
Fucking
Sick
Got to see their album release show for their second album back in Chicago at the Vic Theater in 2016. I was born in the early 90s, not the late 90s, but I had to stumble upon American Football just the same, as it's not like this was what my older sisters where listening to in high school.
Had to pay like $80 for parking because it was when the Cubs were in the World Series, and the nasty security guard made me pick between buying merch and meeting Steve Lamos. I chose the latter, and he's such an incredibly warm, genuine human being.
It's to this day one of the best concerts I've ever been to, and it was a totally random blessing considering I live across the country but was working in Southeast Iowa for a couple months at the time.
1999 is the year I was born and I definitely have been inspired by the album American Football and especially Steve's drumming on it and the EP. Thank you Steve!!
Future Days is fuckin' rad!
lol he seems obsessive compulsive. i wouldnt have expected otherwise. I'm right there with him.
Why couldn't this be fucking longer? This was so cool.
Just heard the song and got amazed by the drums. Looked for his name and ended up watching this. I'm a drummer myself and I hope I can get to play like these guys if I keep it up.
Adam Nimmo? From The Most Serene Republic?
never noticed until now how much the intro sounds like the pornhub intro
It really doesn't
Steve is way better than the interviewer
I agree.
Awesome , such an iconic album , i grew up in Norway and this album has stuck with me since i was like 13 years old in 97/98 or whatever .... if u want a tip on an equally iconic band from Norway that might not be easy to come by in the U.S its the band Beezewax 's two first albums , "a dozen summits" and "south of boredom" , pretty sure they listened to american football aswell , so now you know
Thanks for the recommendation! This is awesome!
Would be cool to have an episode with the drummer(s) of Brand New
I could think of a song or two (or fifty) that I’d want to play on that episode.
@@DrummertoDrummer yes please!
Drummer to Drummer i need this to happen
american football is underrated as fuck
this is so badass
Big Happy Smile! Thanks x
Guys literally made a masterpiece album and didn’t know about that
This is the coolest. Thanks.
Pretty lame this wasn't longer
awesome!
just watching this video 5 years later and still lovin it
Steve is a master drummer, there’s no doubt about that, but it just doesn’t sit right with me that he the only other drum he has besides the snare and kick is a lone floor tom.
missing lamos so much now
What a legend.
Notice how tall his throne is screwed up !
One of the greatest beats of all time
cool
hell yea trad grip
This is damn good! So cool to see stuff like this on youtube!
the best guy
great drummer!!!
what's with the drummer on the left?
the way he plays looks uncomfortable as hell
he's the drummer from american football and he plays traditionally
@@ChuckTheNorris97 sitting like that has nothing to do with tradition playing style. look at how Buddy Rich was sitting. definitely not like that.
this makes me so happy what the heck, literally my favourite band. ever.
601th like! good stuff dude. good stuff
which song is this?
Never Meant!!!
Beautiful
3:12
So cool!
