    Let’s first start with what is a headphone amp:
    A headphone amp is a relatively low-powered amplifier that raises the low-voltage audio signal from a source such as a smartphone, rack component or your computer to a sufficient level to power the speakers inside of your headphones, much like a pair of bookshelf or tower speakers. Headphone amps can dramatically improve the performance and sound of your headphones as well, but we’ll get to how in just a moment.
    Why you would need a headphone amp:
    Your current setup doesn’t have a built-in headphone jack.
    You have a set of higher impedance headphones and your existing audio system cannot play them loud enough.
    You want to use your headphones in another room or on the go
    Finally, you want to improve the audio performance of your headphones
    Headphone amps can vary in size from a full-scale home audio component to a tiny piece that you can fold into the palm of your hand. Some are battery powered, while others need to be connected to AC power. You’ll also find a variety of different types of signals and inputs supported. We will break these down to help you decide the category that is right for your needs.
    Analog Only
    Computer Audio Only
    Many people love to listen to headphones on their computer but let's face it, the headphone jack on your laptop or desktop lacks quality.
    The good news, the right type of headphone amps will allow you to connect a USB cable from your computer to the amp. You’ll also benefit from the amp’s built-in DAC’s which are far better than the ones on your computer.
    There are two types of computer audio headphone amps.
    The first type will simply have a USB connector on it that plugs right into the USB jack on your computer. The other will be more of a component type where you will need to use a USB cable and will normally have its own volume control and full-sized headphone jack on the front.
    Multiple Audio Inputs
    This is the most common type of headphone amp. These will have some combination of USB audio input for a computer or smartphone, analog audio in, and/or digital audio in. Some home models will sometimes have more than one digital and analog input.
    Multiple Audio Input headphone amps are either battery-powered or portable. In addition to a great headphone amp section, these amps will have audio outputs capable of driving a power amp or feeding a pair of powered speakers.
    Last, but certainly not least - streaming capabilities
    A select few headphone amps give you the option of adding network streaming. This allows you to pull audio files off your network without being physically attached to your computer, and also to stream from your smartphone.

    scenario #2 means not that your headphones aren't getting loud enough but that the signal isn't high enough to give you the full picture of the sound. weird phrasing might make that confusing

I enjoy playing my iPod Classic (5.5) in my vehicle through my Nissan Rogue factory deck, and wanted to know if using such a device (e.g., small portable earphone amp) could enhance the sound quality through this. I only have the treble and bass adjustments on it, and would rather not bother swapping the deck out.

    Goodmorning-
    Almost pulled the trigger on the AER 60-4 AMP. My question is if it’s possible to connect and guitar and microphone for vocals and listen to it all using a headset? This to not disturb other people or neighbors. Also a perfect way of listening to my mistakes since an amplifier is unforgiving!
    I realy hope this is possible.
    Now if one day I want to video myself with everything plugged in- what type (!) of mic do you recommend in front of the AER speaker for recording ditectly.
    Thanks again

      @@origami74 I bought a Behringer HA 400 headphone amp that I connect to my Focusrite headphone out. I then connect my headphone/s to the Behringer which has slots for four headphones. The Behringer is AC powered. Look for Behringer headphone amp and Focusrite Scarlett on RUclips, someone has a nice video. I don’t know if this is the ideal solution and I think my Beyerdynamic headphones can maybe do even more but I am definitely getting more out of my headphones than before. So I am happy. P.S. I think the ideal long term solution is that your audio interface should have higher quality / higher impedance headphone outs. Or extra line outs at the back. Or get a stand alone headphone amp - although you’d have to find a way to connect it to the audio interface (like maybe what I’ve done). Please keep in mind I am just learning all this. Good luck.

    Hi there, great video. I have a sampler that has very low volume output power when listening with headphones from the sampler itself. It is the Novation Circuit Rhythm. I was looking for a solution to this and a friend mentioned a portable headphone amplifier. I searched on youtube and came across this video. I want to take my sampler with me to make beats on the go or when i'm traveling. I don't want to buy an audio interface for this unless i'm also going to record into a music production software. My sampler can save my work and when i return home i can dump it into say Reason 12 in my studio. which portable headphone would recommend for this? I'd like to know so i can purchase this asap.

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  2 года назад +1

      Thank you. Almost all portable headphone amps are designed to take a digital input either via usb or toslink/coax. It appears your sampler only has analog out so we do not have one to recommend. However, the problem you are describing seems very odd for a studio piece like that. It could be your headphones are very high impedance and not the best match for it, or some setting on the output level is off. Thanks for watching

    Hello hello! I must say its absolutely amazing how many people you guys have respond to in the comments. That in itself gets you a sub from me.
    However im very very new to all this. Some terms i might not know or everything a amp can and cant do but here i go.
    Yesterday i got a pair of pc38x from Amazon in a "like new" condition and it was a scam im not gonna lie. I am returning them as they were very bad condition, very low audio on ps4 and on phone (it was a bad pair and im gonna buy a straight up new pair, not buying used again), however on phone it was also very choppy. However by hearing how low the volume was during the time i had the broken one i wondered if there was a way to amplify any sound and here i am.
    I chose those headphones because they were recommend for being very great for all gaming, music and movies, i think you get it. Now i would assume i would go with the computer like amp right? However i dont truly understand and hope your professional opinion would help me chose one. All i want is a amp that can help boost sound and id like to try something that can maybe boost bass if thats a thing for my headphones for ps4. It would be awesome if you could point me in some good directions and im not looking for something very expensive as im a bit of a budget. As long as its reliable and maybe im able to dabble around with settings(i heard you can do things like that) that would be wonderful!
    Thank you for your help!

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  2 года назад

      You might want to look for a set of headphones that come with an app that allows you to tailor the sound. Most headphone amps are designed for a more straight wire approach with no controls for changing the sound. Just go with a brand that has been around for a while and make sure the app has sound settings and you should be fine. For more details please reach out to our team at www.audioadvice.com. Hi! What about having a high impedance headphone out (10 ohms) in my audio interface, but having low impedance headphones (32), and don't want the frequency response to be altered by the high impedance output of my interface. Thank you.

      @donaldantonio999 4 года назад +2

      @@wazup3333 There are headphones that require a lot of power. These kind of headphones can be plugged in to your mobile phone but they'll be too quiet as a phone isn't providing the power it requires. This is measured in Ohms. If you have a headphone that is only measured at 32 Ohms, then you can use it with your phone. If you have a headphone that is rated at > 250 Ohms, you'll be disappointed if you plug it to your phone.

      Bradley,
      There are a few ways to go. We have helped customers with hearing loss in the past. A simple test would be to get a good headphone amplifier and a better set of wired headphones. The Receiver would be my suggestion but as it is more expensive may not be the place to start. We can help with some more details of your use. Please contact us at audioadvice.com and call or chat in to answer any questions. We are available Monday-Friday 8:30 AM - 7:00 PM EST and Saturday from 10:00 AM - 6:PM EST. You can reach us at 888-899-8776.

      honestly, with the sennheiser hd 599 (assuming you dont mean the ferrari) a fiio k3 will do. its 100$. its a desktop dac/amp combo and supports up to 384/32 pcm or dsd 256 if you fancy that. it even has a 2.5mm balanced output and you can use it as a dac and connect it to a different amp later down the road. i use a k3 with the hd660s. i tried different dacs and amps in a store, but could not justify the price, maybe with a fancier pair of headphones.

But I’ve seen people combining amps and dacs and don’t know if that’s worth the price. I’m wondering if I need a mic input on the amp or if that’s unnecessary

    Fast forward to 2021 and Apple Music now features lossless, hi-res lossless and Dolby Atmos. I have an iPhone and listen to music on the phone constantly. I recently purchased the $9 Apple lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter. It features a built in DAC. Why spend hundreds on a DAC for an iPhone when you can get this one for only $9. It also supports 24/48.
    I know Belkin makes one as well but they charge around $39. Does anybody else here feel the $9 Apple dongle is a great value for listening to lossless(CD Quality) music?

    okay..now I'm more confused than ever. So I purchased the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro set the other day and they just arrived with a KnoxGear 4 channel amplifier. ($179 for the combo) Now it is not a great amp I suspect as you can find it for about $30 bucks on Amazon. . The reviews said it was a solid combination but I'll have to be honest. I am underwhelmed so far with the set-up. While it sounds "good" it does NOT sound "great" to me. I am not audio "expert" but I expected to be blown away and instead it is simply "meh". Honestly does not sound that much better than my cheap over the ear Walmart specials. My guess is these 250ohm headphones need more power and this video has managed to NOT give me any useful information.

However, that audio is very quiet. How am I gonna use an amplifier to get the audio from the mixer through the amplifier, and then hopefully to my headphones?

    • @AudioAdvice

      If you do not need to mix the signals together, something like this would be ideal www.audioadvice.com/pro-ject-head-box-s2-digital-headphone-amplifier-and-dac You would run the USB out of your laptop into it and the Toslink from your PS4. You'll get better DAC's and plenty of volume. If you need to mix them, that is out of our domain and into the pro audio world. Thanks for watching
