- I suspect that I did not do a good enough job on the Tremec T5 rebuild I did earlier this year and now I have to tear apart the transmission and see what's wrong with it.

Hi Andy i am from Austria and did a T5 Swap on my 68 i just wanted to say thank you everything you did and every video you made helped a lot now i did my first drive and i have grinding in 2nd and 3rd lets see if i can fix the T5 :-) thanks again your a star
awesome, this should be an easy fix. If you look up Erik the Car Guy, he has a teardown and an assembly video with Paul Cangialosi, probably the best T5 guy out there. :)
Just did mine to put in my 66 comet and ran a 2 thousands preload. Working great so far. Used Paul's thrust plate and it is a great piece. T5 is easy to rebuild for sure.
Paul is the guy, and it’s awesome that he answers the phone when you call his shop. 😁
You wouldn't have bored me or us with anything - I love seeing you do what you do!
Thanks brotha!
A great investment for the T5 behind your 347 would be a "gforce" gearset from jegs. If you decide to purchase the set be sure to grab the mainshaft also by gforce. It supports 550hp the tires.
I purchased & built mine about 3wks ago. You wouldn't need the aftermarket T5 case really but purchased it also for more security...
The TKO600HD was my 1st purchase but I wasn't happy with it, the T5 shifts smoother.
Your 347 will definitely destroy the Current T5. There only rated for stock applications using weak metals in the gear design.
The gforce set is 9310 steel polished & treated for more then what your engine will send it.
Mine is a 306, 515hp na.
A aftermarket torque box kit would be nice. You're not racing im sure just as I'm not but it's nice to have things situated in the driveline just in case. The TKX is nice also but I just live the T5
Thanks for the heads up. :)
Wow that's a puzzle, hat's off to you!
Thanks! 😃
Awesome, my T5 is making the same noise as yours was. So hoping to get the time to strip it out over the next month or so, great video 👍
Hopefully you fix is as simple too. Good luck!! :)
Great job Andy! 🏁
Thanks! 👍
Nice work Andy!
Thank you!!
It's always fun tearing things apart to find out what is going on inside. That chattering didn't sound good!
It's fun to learn, but it sucks that I didn't do the rebuild correctly and it forced me to have to re do it. :)
Live and learn good job 👏
Nice bro
Thanks
Hey Andy you mind me asking what shifter that is your using not the knob but the chrome lever, it looks like a Hurst but I'm not sure! If you have a part # or anything it would help a lot cuz it's exactly what I'm looking for! Also Paul cangielosi is an awesome dude and knows his manual gearboxes like none other, he's got a lot of awesome stuff for the tremec wc t5 t56 transmissions and I definitely highly recommend buying his rebuild books if anybody's interested in how to do things to the T for performance or even just a basic rebuild!
It's a Hurst. I have the same Tremec T5 from Modern Driveline for my Cougar and that's what came with it. Check their website. They might sell it separately.
@@scarfaceaz is it Hurst part #5388022?
Yes, Hurst shifter, part number 4106. Size is 10" x 5.5" x 1.3"
Looks like you're doing good at staying busy while the engine is out. You going to be up and running for spring?
Thanks! I’ll be ready for sure, but all the snow we have around here is keeping me from doing anything even if the car was done. 😆
@Andy Kruse oh ya I can imagine. Have a Merry Christmas! I'm sure we can't wait to see what Santa brings your car 🤣
Merry Christmas Andy and family!!! Sounds like a little slop in there. Should be an easy fix. I had a T-5 in my 85 Gt. Always grinded a tad going into 2nd gear. It was nice to have a 5th gear when I ran 3:73 gears on the highway though.
Happy holidays!
is this the same t5 that’s in the 08 v6? no rebuild kits list the s197 v6s so i was wondering if it’s the same trans
@@shalerhenry9877 I think they stopped making the T5 for the Mustang in 2004. Beyond 2004 I don't know what trans was used for those cars. :)
Just put my T5 in and I've noticed that the shifter wobbles when I hit the gas - but only third does it. I'll get round to sorting it out eventually.
Yeah, sometimes it can be tough to diagnose problems with these transmissions.
👍🏿thanks for the video
No problem 👍
Maybe front bearing race in case wasnt seated all the way in and it walked in and made counter gear sloppy.
Possibly, it was only 0.033" worth of shims, so it could have been something simple like that.
Nice work Andy I enjoy your videos I have a T 5 in my 66 Coupe so far I have no issues with my T 5 but if I do now I know how to dis assemble it what is the name of that guy you referenced where I Can Purchase His Book and parts also Thanks Tom
Thanks!
Paul Cangialosi is the go-to guy for the T5 (and other transmissions from the 50s to now). You can buy his book on Amazon or other sites. There's also a handful of videos on RUclips where we goes through the rebuilding of a T5 and shows all the important steps. I've worn those videos out, grabbing every bit of knowledge I could from them. :)
Looking for a t-5 myself
I hear you, they’re tough to find. I’ve been looking since I bought mine (just in case I needed another one) and I have not found one. I wish you luck. 😁
Hi Andy did you purchase the box new or second hand
Used, from a local guy. I give a little more detail about it in the T5 Swap video I made. :)
Did you get this setup through Modem Driveline? Would they not cover this under warranty?
No, I bought this T5 used, off Facebook. I talk about it a little more in the T5 swap video. :)
When you were assembling it the first time if you had grease on the bearing that could throw off you shimming measurements. Just a thought not a true statement
Nope, I think I just wasn't paying attention. :)
