Once upon a time there was a farmer who had three sons: the youngest was a bit slow. Nevertheless, he acquires the golden slipper of the princess and hides it. To the great surprise of his brothers, the king's men find the slipper in the possession of the youngest boy and so - although he was once considered retarded - he gains the hand of the princess.
Made by the Kecskemét Film Studio.
Directed by: Ildikó Sz. Szilágyi, Marcell Jankovics
Storyteller: Gyula Szabó
Music: Kaláka band
The makers used the decorative art of a certain countryside region at each episode. The trio of folk art, folk music and folk tales are masterfully combined in the episodes, which have unique imagery, sometimes spicy folk humor in the dialogues. Thanks to the natural presentation of the storytellers, and the music of the Kaláka band, the viewer can experience something unique and special.

"Don't you mean wishes?"
"No."
I thought I misheard it but no whistles

lmao
😂
Lol
plot twist: John only wanted the golden slipper so he could become rich but then was forced to marry the princess
So... Why does the dad not get angry when his oldest sons continuously destroy parts of his property? Like The wall was one thing, the barn if no one is using it okay, but a corner of the house they are living in?! lol I would have words
This tale is likely a variant of Cinderella in a way and I love it
« The man’s youngest son was very simple »
And his two oldest were just Fabulous! 😂
The real question is, how did that golden slipper get way up there in the first place?
i bet the princess put it there herself, she already wears a gold dress, so perhaps she can climb it…or maybe because it’s one of a pair, she was able to climb with two golden slippers, but once she set down one she fell?
@@dowlotistapWell then that’s miraculous how she endured yet survived all that
That's where all the socks that disappear when you are doing the laundry go.
The do mention that the princess knew it'd fit her perfectly. Now, how could she know that?
All I'm saying is, don't commission shoes from crazy mountaineers
The artist really is generous with the mens' assets.
The older brothers were envious just because John was able to keep the straw tidy while the other two failed to do so. It's a very petty reason if I may say so.
No shit

Don't say stuff like that to me, please.
Don't underestimate human pettiness...
@@NessLover94 it means "no doubt"
I love these so much!!
Also, I just wanted to point out that at 6:35, the caption says "handsome who saw" instead of "handsome hussar"
For those who don't know, a hussar is a member of the European cavalry unit for scouting. Which is modeled after the 15th century Hungarian light-horse corps!
Caption confused me a bit, but I still really liked the story ⭐️
This is similar to the poor man's vineyard but I still love this tale.
this is literally male cinderella and I love it!
The later part of story is a little bit similar to Cinderella somehow
And 1:17 why their chewing faces are so adorable
This story is almost exactly the same as The Poor Man's Vineyard!
I, too, always grow sleepy and go to bed after failing to catch a mouse.
I love watching these before sleeping
“Oh how I wish it would be him that would get the slipper!”
Why did you have a ridiculous challenge decide your hand in marriage then?
Is this just an alternate telling of “The Poor Man’s Vineyard”? Because they both seem very similar 🧐
love the graphics
Popovers:- I really love the stories they make me get satisfied- * sorry I was eating butter cookies*
This is the same with the boy who guarded his father vineyard.
This is identical to "The Poor Man's Vineyard". A lot of these are really similar, so I have to wonder, what's the point of animating all of these? There's a lot of tales that were never animated that are much more original, so I don't understand why they skipped those yet made all thee near-repeats.
This one and the poor man’s vineyard are very similar
this is just like the story with the frog .. I may be wrong but if an animal come up to me and asked me for food .. I’m Giving It To Them !!! why would I hurt an animal especially if they are trying to help me.. That’s a setup 🤣🤣🤣
Oh were are we were in hugarian folktales and the story of the simple prince tresure your right nyle let's go inside were our frinds are in
Amazinggg
Did anyone else notice how this is similar to “the poor mans vineyard” story
This is like the other Hungarian tale, "The Poor man's Vineyard"
John's older brothers were total jerks. They didn't deserve the copper and silver uniforms after what they had done due to their jealousy
Did anyone not realize this is just like the
The Poor Man's Vineyard?
I dunno why I still watch this 😀
Jonique'a Smith:What is this Cinderella?
This better than Poor man's vineyard both both boys are cute
It never occurred to the brothers to check if they could see
Isn't this story like the "Poor man's vineyard"?
They fr used "simple" as an insult💀
Ways to survive a Hungarian Folk tales:
1. Be blonde.
2. Be the youngest.
That lets me out. As the older of two, I have always had trouble with folk tales.
...I am so dead. I am brunette and the oldest.
@@juno9286 Yeah, me too. Am still irritated about that.
Folk tales are made from symbolism and metaphors. So we should not understand them directly. Being blond and the youngest could be a symbolism of purity and childlike kind heart. And usually this characters has a very honest, naive, kind and helpful characters. And they get rewarded by spirits and magical world, the justice get served on the way.
@@janetmiller2160 soo... Are you jealous?
Why does John always sit like he wants to be drawn like one of those french girls? 😂
Cause he is "simple"
AAAAASKSKSK I'M SCREAMING😂😂
STELLAR! coz he gay
saga2828 He can’t be if he married the princess. I think that joke was too far fetched.
I live for comments like yours 😂😂😂😂
Wait, the pretty princess isn't blonde this time? And the jealous brothers are rewarded instead of being punished..?
What a strange version of Cinderella we have here x)
They were just typical teasing older siblings so they aren't too bad. (other than destroying the farm for no reason) and he shows he's a better person by not holding a grudge or destroying anything for no reason.
@Alexandre Phaneuf élève yes thats what i was thinking about too
Alexandre Phaneuf élève he’s not talking about the original
Those teasing older siblings are the bad and weak parts of the main hero. As the older brother one fails, the middle one too and finally the youngest succeeds, is if fact how one man learns from his own mistakes.
@@KKristof100 interesting. Ive never heard that interpretation
At last a real gender switch for.... Cinderfella!!!
Yes, and actually the original title translates "Cinderella prince".
There is actually a subset of old fairy tales refer to as "Cinder-lad stories". My favorite is the Irish version which has Cinder-lad fighting a giant and a dragon. Another fun fact, in the Cinder-lad stories, the heros usually have big feet as opposed to their female counterparts who usually have small feet.
There was a ya book called cinderellis
I read a story similar to this. Cinderellis and the Glass Hill by Gail Carson Levine.
And he still has to put the shoe on the princess. I don’t see no princess putting the shoe on him. Cinder boy can’t wear shoes?
It cracks me up how the brothers literally destroyed everything just because they were jealous yet not only the dad wasn't mad, but at the end the house magically reappeared XD
I love the comments on these stories. Polite, mature, thoughtful, funny, inventive. That's why I hang around.
Also the delightful music, the growing vine, and the illustrations. Haven't encountered any surprises in plot, don't expect to.
And the brothers got suits of silver and bronze
But the father was upset that the straw had been messed up.
Do you think their father was upset that John's older brothers destroyed the family farm?
Jamestown Most likely.
Yes but they did rebuild the house at least before the King's men arrived. Seems like someone annoyed by the haystack not being tidy might be at least a little angry about the barn burned down and the boundary walls in a tumble.
I'm also wondering why John gave his other uniforms to his shitty brother's when he could have kept all his hot clothes.
Probably
I wondered about that. And was surprised to see the house again. I don't think we are being told Everything.
*Spoilers Alert*
I like that he gave the copper and silver uniforms and horses to his older brothers, in stead of keeping them for himself.
Chaya Miller Am I “unbalanced” if I’ve enjoyed binge watching Hungarian Folktales? Lol! These are good for my soul!
It was proof that he wasn't just clever but kind. Especially after how his brothers had been such jerks.

That's what made him different from the other sons; where they had wrath for the mouse, he had a bite to eat.

The simple prince= the poor man's vineyard
Just later, with a slightly tweaked story
So do you think these stories are really folktales or just ppl trying to make a buck? Lol jk
This is exactly what I thought.😂
I watched the poor man's vineyard yesterday so I was like "didn't I watch this video yesterday already?"
@@veerlevanmerwijk7862 This happens a lot in folk tales, as in all oral traditions. People move from one area to another, start telling the stories they knew from the old home, and make up bits to fill for things they've forgotten. Even the collection of the Brothers Grimm has three versions of the story of the princess whose brothers were turned into birds. The number of brothers changes, as does the type of bird. There are several stories in this series that are variants of other stories in the Grimm collection (The Diligent Girl and the Lazy Girl = Mother Hulda; The Slipper-Tearing Princesses = The Twelve Dancing Princesses). Every culture has similar stories. The Algonquin tale of 'The Rough-Faced Girl' is a variant of 'Cinderella'.
@@HannibalFan52 oh I know, I just think it's funny that I got so confused.
Little red riding hood also had multiple versions by different writers. And I recognised some storylines in a few Hungarian folktales that match other European fairy tales.
But thanks for your reply, I didn't think about the oral storytelling from the past when I wrote that comment.
I find it interesting that quite a few of these stories involve the youngest sibling out of a family in which they are shown as the smartest, kindest, etc. Being that traditionally the eldest sibling would inherit the family fortune or take over as head of household.
Yet middle children are still overlooked. Lol
that's because the youngest became writers.
That's precisely where this trope comes from. Traditionally the oldest sibling would inherit the family business, while the second could get a profession that was still influential such as a priest. That left the youngest sibling forced to strike out on their own and make their own fortune.
Aw, John was so nice to give the other horses and uniforms to his jealous brothers...only story I've heard where the antagonist didn't get punished in some way.
its basically a revamped version of the poor mans vineyard wich is another hungarian folk tale
I mean they were nice enough to not torture the youngest they were just a bit dickish to him.
For the elder brothers, it’s an old Magyar version of “You Had One Job”.
"I wish it were him that pick up my slipper"
New favorite euphemism
These tales are so addictive! I have watched 10 episodes straight and will watch the rest!
**Gold suit casually changes to green**
Me: Welp; he just had to match the slipper, now didn’t he?
KInda like that "gold" jewelry that turns your skin green.
😁❤
ive watched so many of these videos and im blown away because i have never heard a single one of these stories. sure there's elements that seem similar, like how this version of this story has a slipper just like cinderella has a slipper. but other than that, this story is similar to the poor man's vineyard video. this version is kind of better, though. like, it makes more sense that a MOUSE would beg you for food instead of a frog and makes more sense that a horse would strew hay around instead of destroying a vineyard. this version also builds suspense better with john not getting the slipper the first two days. I also like how it was the princess who devised the prize system instead of her father, of course.
Is it a theme that the youngest are the protagonists and blonde?
It's usually the youngest, yeah. I think they just draw them all blonde for some reason, it's never really stated anywhere.
The Lily Princess one the short man had brown hair and the girl had gray hair.
It's just a graphic code, what is fair and golden is pure and positive whereas what is dark or red is wicked and prône to do evil. It doesn't have a deeper meaning except helping visualize instantly good from bad, just like young and beautiful people are the good one compared to the ugly ones, their outer appearance reflect their morality. So a character using "untainted" color such as blond/golden ones shows that they are as pure as the ore (which was also considered to be the most fitting for holy representations). Not every tales uses that graphic convention but most do
Maybe it represents innocence
Ya friendly neighborhood Satan it’s because a long time ago people would value the eldest (still a thing around) and generally people would treat the youngest like garbage (as seen in this tale , call him “simple) while the eldest would usually receive property / business from the father. also another thing with them being blond is because most hungarians only had black / brown hair. blonde is a recessive gene so two people with black / brown hair could potentially have a blonde baby. it would make the fathers think it was a bastard child. so they would treat them even worse. these stories are more like underdog tales i’m assuming. most have morals and they’re trying to teach a certain group of people to think differently
That farmer's family is the most genetically diverse one... Two siblings have two different recessive traits.
Where was Daddy in all this? Letting wicked sons tear down his house, wall, barn with no punishment? And John rewarding them with horses? Tsk, tsk! We need this fairy tale torn down and rebuilt.
Why was there a slipper on a tree
you shan't question the logic of folktales!
The princess probably had it put there.
Princesses.
A magical creature put it there.
That's what you question? Not the mountain made of glass, or the animals talking?
Isn’t that where everyone puts their slippers?
the things that i've learned from all of your story is:
1.listen to the talking animals
2.the youngest child in the family must have a golden hair and the luckiest one
What's with the stories where horses come to farms and just destroy crops at night?! XD
Tbey are hungry for the hay.
The horse was looking for his needle.
This is a different version of another episode of Hungarian Folk Tales, the Poor Man’s Vineyard that I just watched! I love listening to different iterations of a story.
Also, maybe this story influenced or was influenced by the story of Cinderella.
* sees golden haired and white clothed guy *
EVERYONE! WE'VE GOT A MAIN CHARACTER
Finally, a prince without a mustache
It was so nice of him to give the other horses to his brothers, even though they had been so mean to him.
I really like this story especially since the simple man was kind and generous.
Aw! John is so adorable! His brothers are jerks though.
Burn the barn down! Nuts!
Clearly, you have never had a brother.
typical Hungarian tales:
*Magic
*Three sons/daughters
*The special one in the tail is blonde
*talking animals
*Random lifelesson
*Random journey
Hm! This one sounds familiar! I love how unusual these Hungarian folktales are. I fall asleep to a different one each night as if they were bedtime stories.
Same. Perfect bedtime stories
0:37 definitely the youngest
*DEFINITELY THE BLONDE*
If u want to succeed in life in a Hungarian tale, you have to be blonde and youngest in your family. _no exceptions_
This channel is lit. Fight me. I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time lol
Lol I'm 4 years late, all of the stories are funny and entertaining
This is my favorite story from Hungarian Folk Tales I have seen yet.
This is Cinderella in disguise.
Thank God that this time the princess didn't have blond hair like most of them do.
1:26 when you try to kill a creepy bug but it disappears
Wait how is a pine tree able to grow on glass?
You didint pay attention didint you
Yep
The animals are _talking_ buddy, don't think about it too hard
It was probably placed there
a wizard did it
This is so cool. My mom was of Scottish descent, and of Scotland and its traditions I know much. My father was of Hungarian descent. But he knew nothing of his heritage and neither have I. It's great to see some folk tales from this side of my heritage.
They have something in common: bagpipes in folk music.
This sounds oddly like a few other Hungarian Tales. I think it's called "The poor man's Vineyard". Except this story seems far more complete than that one. instead of hay, it was a vineyard. Instead of a mouse, it was a frog. instead of one horse it was three. instead of a briddle it was three rods, instead of a glass mountain it was just he pinetree and three challenges.
The brothers in that story also broke down every thing that the youngest claimed to have seen the horseman riding.
What I have learned from the majority of Hungarian folk tales, the youngest child always gets the best deals in life
Sounds like pure observation by the older siblings.
Reminds me of a story I heard called "The Princess of the Glass Hill".
And "The Poor Man's Vineyard" too, for those envious brothers had done the same, destroying farm objects for the same futile reason.
Used to read that story a lot as a kid - was a total bookworm!
Reminds me of Simple Jack.
_"I g-g-g-got a good brain"_
isn't this like the other story "the poor man's vineyard?"
These remind me of polish fairy tales in the music and drawing style
This is the male version of Cinderella.
These are so random and weird, but I absolutely love them
Its a cliché the older brothers/sisters always lose and the youngest brother/sister always wins!
Looks like another tale with 3 magic sticks that he had to hit the horses with.
This really reminds me of the Russian folktale Ivan the Fool.
Thanks! I'd read the tale of sivka burka as a kid many years ago. But when I tried to search for it again on the Internet I couldn't find it because I'd forgotten the name of the story. After I saw your comment I searched ivan the fool and eventually found the story of sivka burka. Yay!
“yOu’Re To StUpId To GuArD tHe StRaW” 😂😂
This is exactly like Cinderella. hahaXD
(from Hungarian Folk Tales)
Yeah, although it’s been gender bended.
It definitely goes to show that you don’t have to educated and sophisticated to be smart. Smartness comes in many different forms.
yes. : )
@Chaya Miller the original title actually means prince Cinderella.
LEL. Thank you for sharing, that's so funny! : D
I remember reading this story in my school reader, but the challenge was catching golden Apple's thrown from the princess sitting on the glass mountain. Think they called it Cinderlad.
I swore I just recently saw another folk tale (here on this Hungarian channel) that is very much like this one.
Three things (silver bronze gold) that lets the youngest lad be draped in each with an armor and horse
Participates to win princess
And tells siblings saw it all, which follows them destroying they spots at which he watched (which is so strange.. why????!?)
Hate and envy.
That is the Poor man's vineyard episode.
Yeah, basicly it is the same story, with minor differences (vinegrapes instead of straw, frog comes not mouse, the boy gets three sticks not whistles, there are three tasks to reach something which is at the top of a tall tree, etc.). The fact that there are more versions of the same story is not very surprising. As these stories were originally folk tales, and they were told from one people to another without writing it. So the main events remained but some minor parts changed over the time.
It is very remarkable when you can randomly choose between episodes in a RUclips channel. However these cartoons were presented in the television in the '70-s, '80-s***, so there could be years between someone could see a same or similar episode again. And even most of the audience changed as kids grow up.
*** Yes it is true that many episodes were made later, until 2012 (Moreover, new episodes are planned to be made), but for the earlier episodes that statement was true-
This one is like the one about The poor man's vineyard, yet I like it better because in the end John was nice to his brothers, even if they did not take him seriously.
This is the same as "The poor man's vineyard"
This is exactly like another story that was illustrated here. About the farmer's son.
Young John is my spirit animal
The version of this story I heard, he gave the princess and king the other two horses because screw the brothers XD
It was nice of him to share with the other brothers even though they really were jerks!
running theme wit these hungarian tales.
if you're the older siblings, you're daft
if your the youngest, everything goes right in life for plus you're caring about animals
I have watched a lot of these videos, seems the end goal 99% of the time is getting a princess.
This is like reverse Cinderella XD (and it’s so sweet that he was so generous to his bros, even if they didn’t deserve it)
Isn’t this the same as the other Hungarian Folktales (poor man’s vineyard.)
Why all the tales always "the youngest sibling is the wisest and married first?"
My question is... How did the slipper get up there in the first place?
Also, a mountain made of glass? How did that happen?
Fairytale 🌈
This one felt a bit like Cinderella for a moment. Also a very old story. I love it when there are little overlaps in the old tales.
