  • Juul Labs has rapidly overtaken the U.S. e-cigarette market. In the past year, sales have skyrocketed nearly 800 percent and Juul is now valued at more than $15 billion. But the company faces lawsuits and FDA regulation, and its popularity among teens could threaten its future. CNBC gets a rare look inside Juul Labs and talks to the founders, James Monsees and Adam Bowen, to hear how the company is facing its challenges while trying to eliminate cigarettes from the face of the Earth.

El Narcotraficante i still am gonna smoke weed obviously, but here’s the facts, “Risk of respiratory effects from inhaling marijuana smoke are heightened by the more intensive way in which marijuana is smoked -- when smoking marijuana compared to tobacco, there is a prolonged and deeper inhalation and it is smoked to a shorter butt length and at a higher combustion temperature. This results in approximately 5 times the carbon monoxide concentration, 3 times the tar, and the retention of one-third more tar in the respiratory tract. Higher levels of ammonia and hydrogen cyanide have also been found in marijuana smoke, compared to tobacco (Moir, et al., 2008; Wu et al., 1988; Tashkin et al., 1991; Benson & Bentley, 1995).”

50 mg/ml Concentration X .7 ml/1 pod= 35 mg of nicotine per pod. Pack of 4 pods is generally $17 with tax. 17/4= $4.25 per pod. Pods last generally 2-3 days so that costs you about $11.90 per week. By the end of the month you will have wasted $47.60. So really if your thinking about it a nice starter mod will cost you $70 with a battery. Another $20 for a 60 mL bottle of juice. These prices will break even within 2.5-3 months. The freebase nicotine has a much lower nicotine concentration. The e- liquids for mods will cost you around $0.33 per mL, while the juul pods will go for $6.07 per mL. No wonder why these guys are making so much.

Again, the royal college of physicians has stated that, according to their years-long research and studies, e-cigs are 95% less harmful than cigarettes. And I trust them more than this old guy you showed, even though nobody should glorify vaping. It´s probably still not as harmless as fresh air, although your cities don´t have any of that anyway.
Also, while a full Juul-CARTRIDGE truly contains as much nicotine as a pack of cigarettets, that pod also lasts you for the same amount of time. And all these claims about nicotine causing "worse" cancer may be true, but that wouldn´t be unique to vaping, even though you present it like that. Cigarettes also contain nicotine, you know?
And that stupid "vaping epidemic among kids" claim is a parental issue. If a store sells your kid alcohol, you messed up for not raising your kid properly and the store messed up for selling alcohol to a minor. Yet, if that same store sells vaping devices to your kid, it´s suddenly the manufacturers fault? Doesn´t make any sense to me.
This comment will probably be deleted anyway, so why not just add another fact:
Vaping saves lives. If you want to believe it or not, if you make the switch, it´ll save your life.
I know that big tobacco´s money is tempting, but the truth shouldn´t be hidden.

Their initial marketing campaign was different then other e-cigarettes, because it utilized social media and young models. Emphasizing being sleek and young established it in a younger market. The majority of smokers are older adults as anti-cigarette movement has reduced smoking radically. If their real intention was to sell to the biggest population of smokers, (most effectively fufilling their supposed mission statement) then they would have marketed the product entirely differently.

On my Facebook I have posted clips about transitions first from commercial cigarettes), potential transition off Juul to an Aromatherapy vaping system that still gets the Dopamine hit nicotine is known for. By introducing Juul for Teens where that product is the extension of the original Juul version a workable strategy is feasible to permanently nullify issues with teenager purchases by giving them a safe alternative.

My hopes for e-cigs is that people also use it as a method to break addiction.

Well, for starters, the Juul is intended for smokers. 1 pod = around 1 pack of cigs worth of nicotine fix, and a day to get through, so pack a day smokers don't have to replace the pod throughout the day. If it had no nic, it would be pointless for them. Second, it would definitely still get people hooked. For the longest time cigarettes were considered a habit rather than an addiction because for some people it can take years of regular smoking to get hooked to the nicotine itself, and social smokers still get hooked without being addicted to nic. The movement, getting something to do with your hands, the stress relief from breathing slowly, the social aspect, etc. People vape without nic for a reason. And some people slowly drop their nic to 0, but continue vaping nonetheless.
And by that logic, all caffeine brands should be forced to sell decaf. Caffeine is addicting too. Some people can't even get through a morning without their fix.

smoked two packs a day for fifteen years with never really thinking about ever quitting. i woke up every morning coughing my brains out... sometimes almost puking. i smelt like cigarettes and i was spending between 10-20$ a day of them. someone was smoking a jul inside and told me they switched and that he can smoke it where ever he goes because it doesn't smell. so, i decided to try it. i bought one. it took me a few days to adjust. and i can tell you without a doubt that my cough went away, i have more money in my pocket, i don't have to leave my girlfriend at the bar because i NEED to stand outside in the snow. I feel sooooo much better. i don't smell... If you're a smoker BUY one. anyone who says their as bad never went from smoking to vaping.

honestly the fda can’t do that to juul bc u can just go on another website and get pods i mean vape juice has a variety of flavors and they aren’t banned by the fda and u can just go get salt nic so if they wanna ban juul they might as well ban all vapes and vape juice

These e-cigarettes were invented years ago and weren't made for long term use. Like the patch, but a longer form of treatment, it is for weaning a person off tobacco/nicotine. But kids who weren't even smoking to begin with & would not even smoke if these weren't around, have taken it up coz it's cool to vape.

Just would like to point out that I am an avid vapor I chewed tobacco for a number of years and smoked before that. When I switched to vaping I instantly felt a change, my cravings went down, my teeth got better and my doctors visit are way better and I'd rather breathe in vape which is essentially nothing compared to toxic and polluted cigarette smoke.

Not to add people can alter them to make the nicotine stronger than a usual Juul or cigarette. It also makes thinks non smokers think it's safe to do it, and then they think can do it, get addicted. I've seen it happen, they'll do laugh and try 0% just the flavoring, cotton candy cool!, then acidentally mix it up with 10% percent and before they know it they're buying the altered 60% juuls not even legal.

How does big tobacco CEOs and the FDA sleep at night knowing that cigarettes kills 400k people a year including youth. Hmmm but vaping is bad cigs have 100s of chemicals that have proven to give cancer. Vaping has zero cancer causing chemicals. Look up the studies of the Royal collage of physicians and please educate to better lives.

just because its been around doesnt mean its ethical..

@@connermcmahan5528 I think there is a line to be drawn between nicotine and crack considering it's very similar to the legal drug, caffeine which many people consume daily.

Why is everyone hating on Juul so much? You should be mad for the expensive unrefillable pods for the Juuls...
Be glad kids only vape instead of smoke cigarettes because that's what we always did at my highschool, after beginning vaping I never want to inhale tobacco smoke ever again because its so harsh and tastes disgusting. Why would you change an healthier and nicer bad habit in for a unhealthy disgusting one?

They should have mentioned the waste issue. Lots of teens just throw out the empty pods about anywhere while they're supposed to be hazardous waste. It's hard for adults too, very limited info and no recycle program offered by the company and I haven't seen any third party companies offer juul pod recycling yet.
