Fucking festival sound engineers. Great performance, though. EDIT: Having listened to the whole thing again, it's kind of a nice novelty to have Goerge's vocals so high in the mix. It's not how the music was intended, but he really shines and tries out some new stuff (deeper tones on occasion and some more traditional black metal vox too).
So this very, very late but... it's not the engineer's fault. They probably took the mix straight out of the board and then didn't adjust it. What works through the festival system with on stage amps etcetera is going to sound weird coming out your headphones/stereo under very different conditions.
Haha, I'm currently playing in a doom / stoner band using just a bass, drums & occasional screeching. Fun stuff but it's definitely more difficult to write songs
The good thing about this is you can hear how on point the bass guitar, drums, and vocals are. Too bad the two guitarists are literally nowhere to be found.
Don't really give a shit about what metal elitists think that hate this band, still think they've created a unique and interesting sound mixing black metal and post rock together. Almost polar opposites in the metal/rock genre yet I feel like they fit together in an extremely interesting way.
I personally feel there are bands out there that do it a bit better than Deafheaven. Have you heard of Harakiri For The Sky? Definitely worth checking out if you dig Post Black Metal.
Having never seen them live, or watched any footage of them live before this, I was a little surprised at how lively the vocalist is. For some reason I imagined a "standing still" type of guy.

The sound is sooo bad... It is so hard to hear lead guitar! On top of that his guitar cuts out in a few parts of the song. This is the SONG that you don't want these problems to occur.

I think he adds "With You." So the final lines are "I want to dream. With You." And then there’s a final line I can't quite decipher. But the addition of "with you" makes this Cure fan cry a little.
See all those people who wouldn't ever mosh in there life moving around like that is awesome. This band knew wtf they were doing when they wrote this record....
funny thing. you can hear the guitars. at 1:27 you can't because of some sound malfunction. you can't really hear much of a difference throughout their set because they play mostly post-rock type chords.

If this is anyones first experience to this band and you dont like the vocals well the vocals sound completely different on the their records and most importantly on these songs.
I was here, and yes the sound guys were really that shitty. Kerry (lead guitarist) was basically taking care of everything himself for this entire song
Come on guys don't hate on all metalheads just cuz one or two of the dickhead purists rustled your jimmies. We're not all like that. Sure I may prefer traditional black metal to this, but I'm not gonna say it sucks. Well, this particular video kinda sucks due to poor mixing but I can dig the album every now and again. Most metalheads I know are generally quite open minded people. Every fanbase and subculture has those few die-hards who get their heads stuck up their own ass, its best to simply ignore them.
It's a nice change to actually hear the snare drum, but still, I must agree with everyone else. Pretty weird mixing for a video. This is why you record separate tracks when you plan on doing a video like this.
Artists making art = successful in their own minds and sometimes that's enough. Artists making money = successful in the world's eyes too. The minute art becomes financially successful, someone will surely hate it simply because it works. Everyone has to hate something, I guess?
Love the album so much, but this actually sounds horrible live. The vocals are mixed super loud and I'm pretty sure the lead guitar actually cut off :(. What are the techs doing?
Hhmm looked at the comments hoping id find why people call this black metal, but aside from the fighting im still left wondering, Why is this band labeled black metal?
So damn. I am really disapointed in the vocals on this live recording. doesn't sound anything like the album where his voice sounds good. this sounds damn close to just shitty. obviously i can tell the editing is off too cause of the guitars n what not. but does his voice always sound like this live? that would b sad n like i said really disapointing.
Just love some good ol' drum n' bass black metal
+Aldo Pinheiro eu também; bom demais.
I'm laughing so hard
Guitars need to be raised up. They're what really
Make the song and the whole album for me.
I actually like the way this sounds. It's cool to hear the drums and vocals this loud even though it messes up the song.
Fucking festival sound engineers. Great performance, though.

It sounds really cool on some part indeed
Guilherme Martins Believe it. Make the perfect equalization is a titanic work.
So this very, very late but... it's not the engineer's fault. They probably took the mix straight out of the board and then didn't adjust it. What works through the festival system with on stage amps etcetera is going to sound weird coming out your headphones/stereo under very different conditions.
i think the sound guy thought it was bring your kid to work day
lol
Actually, I just realised that a no-guitar, just bass, drums and screeching black metal band would be a fascinating concept.
I’d love that so much
Haha, I'm currently playing in a doom / stoner band using just a bass, drums & occasional screeching. Fun stuff but it's definitely more difficult to write songs
Already been done 30 years ago. Look up Necromantia
The good thing about this is you can hear how on point the bass guitar, drums, and vocals are. Too bad the two guitarists are literally nowhere to be found.
It does provide an interesting angle into their sound that you otherwise wouldn't get.
A little bit shameful that drummer fucked up that blastbeat in the beginning
Bad sound mix :
- the voice is too high
- there's too much drum
- too much bass
- not enough guitars
***** ?
***** I probably could considering I know what this song should sound like
***** ur fucked kid
*****
The band is not responsible for the mix. The sound ingeneer is.
Victor Malvolti Oddly, it's mixed 10x better on the full set video
Don't really give a shit about what metal elitists think that hate this band, still think they've created a unique and interesting sound mixing black metal and post rock together. Almost polar opposites in the metal/rock genre yet I feel like they fit together in an extremely interesting way.

Bro elitists love Deafheaven. Just hipster elitists
7:48
drooling is so black metal
What ever happened to your channel? Why are you watching videos by bands you hate? Are you a professional troll now?
guys, don't ask about the sound engineer, ask about why pitchfork even uploaded this.
Didn't know this band, it looks like it's gonna be one of my fav band now.
update : It is.
@@_amertume lmao thats nice
Having never seen them live, or watched any footage of them live before this, I was a little surprised at how lively the vocalist is. For some reason I imagined a "standing still" type of guy.
7:02
Is that a tear or a bead of sweat? Either way great performance, I wish the guitars where more audible though.
1:37 Kerry m says "FUCK this guy" lol
lol
DAT BASS!!!!!
This is a fucking amazing song ruined by a bad sound guy. WHERE ARE THE GUITARS
Curtis Young average music and overbearing vocals. hope the original song is more inspirational.
Vocals are much much lower in the mix on the record. Think Moss Icon low. Works much better.

Check out their full set video from this festival - the mix is MUCH better in that.
the mixing on this is actually pretty hilarious
A presença de palco desse vocalista é absurda!!!
Didn't know white nationalist Richard Spencer was in a band
Sir Fredrick Eggenhauser HAHAHAHA! I knew this guy reminded me of someone!
such an awesome band
On the plus side it's nice to hear the vocals a bit clearer. They're mixed so low on the record.
Leaving my comment here before the extreme metalheads come over here and fuck shit up.
Terrible mix...the drums and vocals are waaaaay too loud.
love it.. drums and bass should be loud!!
@@pattonPwr Not vox though

1:35 Guitar malfunction and bass takes over.
In between the final verses he adds a piece of lyrics which I do not hear in the studio version, what does he says? Before I want to dream
Those guitars sound like muddy oil. Shame on the sound-person.
It’s Deafheaven....and Pitchfork.....need I say more?
@@Glass_Caskets Yes, yes you do need to explain.
dude, why did they put this song on? I was there, and the sound dude kept fucking up the guitarists' sound. and it wasn't the only band of the weekend
Can anyone decipher the new lyrics George recently adds in Dream House after the sentence "It's like a dream"? Something about "flesh" and "soul"?
TheArcanist Anyone found out yet hahaha?

I would dare to say that in this band the guitars are the main instrument and you can barely hear them
Only in this video.
hard performance! And the bass-sound is amazing
2:18 SOOOOOOOOOO
The GREATEST BLACK METAL BAND OF ALL TIME!!
Now that’s a stretch… however you should say this in r/MetalMemes just to troll.

at 1:36 I mean
I really like this band, but the vocals have to be turned down for the recording and the camera needs to use less of the front-man in every shot.
First time I see a live video of this song, I'm dissapointed
Still excited because they are coming to my country !!!!!
You shouldn't be. The sound here was fucked up
Bad representation of them live

sounds like the sound guy knew what he was doing...
George’s vocals are sick here
something went serieusly wrong with this performance as i could not bear it any longer. The sound was all off. The mix on sunbather was all okay.
I was here, and yes the sound guys were really that shitty. Kerry (lead guitarist) was basically taking care of everything himself for this entire song

Mr. Boondoggle Dude - the lyrics are a series of words and phrases. He delivers them in an off-cadence style. Maybe you should stick with Rihanna.
i like his new vocal style a lot
I would love this band and its sound if Alcest doesn't exist. But it does so I feel something like uncanny valley effect instead.

Classic metalheads that cant see different arts other than a guy in black and white paint -.-
Somehow the full set video literally has way better mixing than this 8 minute one.

I pity the fool who was stuck standing behind the guy at 5:45.

holy bajs batman
Hilarious that everyone wants to critique the sound guy but no one has any idea how the sound on the footage was recorded. Morons.
Keith McNeill exactly hahahaha! Live this probably sounded a millions times better.
I overall enjoy this, but I kinda feel that it lacks energy.
When a black metal band is not a black metal band actually
damn the mixing on this is so horrid
I dig Sunbather, but this drummer deserves to be in a way better band.
He looks like an evil priest or something. Good shit though.
ugh the guitars make this song & they're missing.
