All these years later and this live version of sunbather is still the closest sounding to the original record out of any of their other live performances of this song
It’s not as good though. Why is everyone lying? in all of his old live shows, like this beautiful live one, he would actually use like a screamo type scream for songs off their sunbather album, now he uses that gutteral squelching he used in new Bermuda for all his vocals. It’s lame but what can you do?
Have to credit pitchfork for the coverage of this song, captures the emotion and passion in their live shows perfectly. So stoked to be seeing these guys in August!
How do people not cry anytime they hear Deafheaven? They give me the same reaction i first had when listening to Tool, Puscifer, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Opeth & Sikth. Nothing short of pure, visceral emotion.
To all of you, this is black metal, made it the old way, the way it used to be, and the way it preserves its nature... Satyricon, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Emperor, Ulver, Immortal, Enslaved, etc, etc... That underground emotion, that dark feeling...
These guys are coming to NC on the 8th and I'm stoked to see them! I've always gone to shows with the same musical style (Intro breakdown, 2-step, breakdown again, 2 step again, final breakdown) It's nice to hear something different but not necessary breaking away musically
While there is something kinda interesting in someone screaming to the nth...just how sore is his larynx later? And why the need to pose as a norse pseudo-god a lot?
sounds like Krallice without the dissonance. is this a thing? I mean, do all of these bands sound the same? who started it? why is everyone copying them?
It would be funny to see the reaction of this audience to a classic black metal band such as mayhem or emperor, I'll bet you they would call it garbage...
I love trve kvlt black metal fans. They're so miserable and they hate everyone that actually ENJOYS shit instead of moping around. Go back to circle jerking Varg.
Kane Recardo hiphopfuhrer Blackgaze has been a thing for a while...mix of Black Metal and Shoegaze rock. Liturgy, Alcest, Lantlôs, etc...Deafheaven weren't the first band to do this combo by any means.
maybe if I started kissing people in the audience's hands, I could. Or started wearing leather gloves. Or started contemplating the meaning of a withering flower during a p4k proshoot to look "oh so deep".
***** Yep I liked that about joy division, their sound and aesthetic such a thing is very appealing because it gives you a sense of completeness like they're putting a lot of effort into what they do, not just doing music but interpreting it the way they want.
this band has changed my life.
You mean, you did the operation?
I know what you feel, bro!
Me too😺
same brother
this album singlehandedly has changed my whole outlook on life and got me out from so much bad shit
All these years later and this live version of sunbather is still the closest sounding to the original record out of any of their other live performances of this song
deafheaven is one of the most emotionally sincere bands out there. this IS what music is about
Speaking of still existing, yeah. You're probably right.
YESSS
relax
That guy is seriously the best live wretched vocalist I've ever heard . Amazing
Saw him Tuesday night, he's only gotten better. Absolutely powerful and terrifyingly awesome.
they sound so good live man. i hope george can keep that voice going for a long time.
He smokes, so probably not.
He has only gotten better over the years IMO.
absolutely! i saw them live about 2 months ago and George was completely on point
5 years later, can confirm his voice is just as good
It’s not as good though. Four years later this is still the best live video I have seen
How do people not cry anytime they hear Deafheaven? They give me the same reaction i first had when listening to Tool, Puscifer, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Opeth & Sikth. Nothing short of pure, visceral emotion.
Holysh so perfect, much wow, so awesome, many backgaze
Such an amazing performance, wish I could see them live.
It's intense, emotional and sincere. Their music breaks the barriers of hypocrisy.
Always and forever.
this is great but george is not wearing gloves
and his longer hair makes him look strange (not in a good way).
Awesome recording! Drums sound great!
Daniel Tracy is a beast behind the kit.
wow a giant thank you to whoever put the time and work into this video to capture such an amazing performance... god damn it I love this band
Nice to see people moving rather than just standing there
To all of you, this is black metal, made it the old way, the way it used to be, and the way it preserves its nature... Satyricon, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Emperor, Ulver, Immortal, Enslaved, etc, etc... That underground emotion, that dark feeling...
Alcest and Deafheaven are the best!
***** Agalloc? LAntlos? Damn so much good music. :D
Oh my God....Can't remember the last time I got goosebumps for ten mins straight

Absolutely incredible

We're in this together...
If only they could have covered Phoenix AZ in 2016 fuuuuck what a show
These guys are coming to NC on the 8th and I'm stoked to see them!
I've always gone to shows with the same musical style
(Intro breakdown, 2-step, breakdown again, 2 step again, final breakdown)

black metal out from the shadows with a bare heart
Where are the gloves??
sounds a bit like post-rock too
WOW
i wish clarke would work a little harder to enunciate his lyrics
Such a great performance. Gahh.
Psychedelic Metalgaze!
I like the exit sign behind them...not that I would leave the gathering.
I am mostly heterosexual
i n t e n s e.
Fuck yeah deafheaven
Yeah .. I can see it in this one "you would just love that if I told you all about it" ... Who is. That?
Stephen looks alike playing ukulele.
While there is something kinda interesting in someone screaming to the nth...just how sore is his larynx later? And why the need to pose as a norse pseudo-god a lot?
I gripped the wheel
sounds like Krallice without the dissonance. is this a thing? I mean, do all of these bands sound the same? who started it? why is everyone copying them?
this doesnt sound anything like Krallice. you trippin
was he sucking on his fingers?
It would be funny to see the reaction of this audience to a classic black metal band such as mayhem or emperor, I'll bet you they would call it garbage...
Wait. Black metal existed before 2013?! Please, tell us more!
i fuckin hate the shittiest shit called mayhem. MAYHEM are the real posers, with the fuckin hype around them name
I love trve kvlt black metal fans. They're so miserable and they hate everyone that actually ENJOYS shit instead of moping around.
Go back to circle jerking Varg.
I love hipsters
Eric Barbret Awesome comment. Very brave, very original.
nice death in june shirt
These guys get to much flack just like Krallice
so much drugs
😂😂😂😂 Antifa metal
not bad
until he started "singing"
yeah right
whatsuphotdog You are obviously not familiar with blackgaze then. It doesn't need to be clean vocals to be a good vocal performance.
ikurislives blackgaze? each week we have to create some new stupid music tag?
ikurislives lmao "blackgaze" im dying
Kane Recardo hiphopfuhrer Blackgaze has been a thing for a while...mix of Black Metal and Shoegaze rock. Liturgy, Alcest, Lantlôs, etc...Deafheaven weren't the first band to do this combo by any means.
What's with all the theatrics by the vocalist? Pathetic...
could you say anything more vapid?
maybe if I started kissing people in the audience's hands, I could. Or started wearing leather gloves. Or started contemplating the meaning of a withering flower during a p4k proshoot to look "oh so deep".
Alejandro Torres it's ok: your puberty has an end.
edgar v. l. lol
Oh well, it's entertaining, at least they are not dressed like fucking clowns and pouring fake blood on the audience.
***** Yep I liked that about joy division, their sound and aesthetic such a thing is very appealing because it gives you a sense of completeness like they're putting a lot of effort into what they do, not just doing music but interpreting it the way they want.
Cringe
