Your nervousness and care paid off, gentlemen. Years later, and this album is still winning hearts and minds. A real piece of art. The dichotomy of light and darkness is bone chilling. We love you.
Am I the only one who thinks the drums make this album? The guitars are nice, kinda wall of nice ambient noise and quite magnetic, but those drums just send it over the edge.
Kelly Moon couldnt agree more! so fun and almost unique feeling playing over the album. needs a few good dozen push ups before siting behind the kit tho. the guy is a fucking machine.
+Kelly Moon Hell yeah they do! without them the album would be less amazing. Im a metal drummer and i totally look up to the drummer of Deafheaven. He is crazy fast and technical on that set.
I've never had crazier chills than when I made it to the end of the video where George is screaming the end part of Dream House. Dude puts so much emotion into his lyrics and vocals. Can't wait to see them in February so I can actually experience this in person. Holy fuck.
The lyrics at that part really just push it that much further too. I saw then in 2012 with Alcest, I didn't even know who they were. They're fantastic live.
I am not even ashamed to say that the first time I listened to Sunbather I was in a shitty part of of my life. Deafheaven had me crying like a bitch by the end of the first song. I'm not even sorry, this band is legit. Respect from Yamoussoukro.
Same here. My gf had just broken up with me and I was already kicked out of my parents house so I had to keep living with her. I watched her slowly fall out of love with me and back into her abuser's arms. And I feel like I'm kinda back again now with Infinite Granite. My recent gf just broke up with me last month and their new album is helping me get through it. I'm a changed man and I can't let myself hit rock bottom again like last time. I'm thankful for Deafheaven. They've been there for me at my worst moments in life to help give me a reason to keep going on. Hearing George Clarke talk about how Sunbather was made when they were poor as hell and struggling connects with me in a way that I never expected. It makes me feel like we could be depression buds.
Its pretty awesome to see what the album looks like being recorded and getting to see them do certain takes. But holy shit. The fuckin vocals were crazy. Gives me the chilly willies watching it.
Wow.....those vocals are absolutely killer. Just look at the emotion and work ethic he's putting into them, it'll be amazing to see his live performance. I seriously can't wait for this.
I was in a really, really bad place when this album came out and from the first time I heard the album it was an incredibly cathartic experience. It was like the literal power of the instruments and vocals were pushing my demons out of me. Almost 9 years later and whenever I hear this album it takes me right back to that period of time and it reminds me of everything I was able to push through and I’m able to see how far I’ve come from that time in my life. They made and released an album that I needed at a time I needed it the most.
This album is so fucking amazing. Sooo, captivating and immersive, from the beautiful chords, the shrill, passionate vocals. Jeez, this was such a huge step up.
i wish there were a version with more present vocals though, just to hear them properly. what's the point in being 'shoegaze' if it takes a vocal delivery like and essentially turns it to nothing. more generally, i feel like these guys make some weird decisions in their songwriting that point you in different directions and don't seem to be made for any real reason, rather to just be experimental. new bermuda in particular was too eclectic for me. i sound critical here but this album still floors me. the first 3 songs are so incredible well written.
I'm dying. Is it blissful? It's like a dream. I want to dream. I want to dream. Holy testicles. I take back everything nasty I've ever said about metal or screamed vocals. That is human expression epitomized.
I was about to lay a comment asking if anyone elses heart broke at that mark, the amount of passion and force that he puts into that part alone, you can see it in his face and hear it in his voice. He gave it everything
Dat drumming was FUCKING intense!! Those guitars were FUCKING intense!! Those vocals were FUCKING intense!! And I can't FUCKING wait to get this!! One of the best FUCKING records of 2013 definitely!
it's almost certainly an ebow. Hard to tell from the angle of the camera, but that's generally what an ebow sounds like when you also run the guitar through delay and reverb pedals.
To be clear, I love black metal, death metal, doom metal, sludge metal, etc. I just don't want to hear Under a Funeral Moon and De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas over and over again, but if you do, that's fine.
Not sure how this is "mainstream". I don't know a single person that's heard of these guys and they're definitely not getting radio play or coverage in the (actual) mainstream media. It's fine that you don't like it, I'd just like you to explain why without saying something completely generic like "It lacks the spark of the previous releases". It takes balls to release an album like this. Trve kids hate anything that wasn't recorded in a cave on 8-track tape. Oh, and they really hate melody.
Seems like they truly perfected their craft. My only problem on Roads To Judah was that the drums where pretty repetitive, there were mostly blastbeats, i am really surprised that there's a lot of variation on the drum work now.
Your nervousness and care paid off, gentlemen. Years later, and this album is still winning hearts and minds. A real piece of art. The dichotomy of light and darkness is bone chilling. We love you.
yes, dichotomy is the first word that came to mind when I heard this band. It's beautiful
Literal masterpiece
George at the end tho, holy fuck. The album is an incredible gift to the human race.
I know right. So fuckin epic.
Jesus Christ those screams at the end so goddamm good
Am I the only one who thinks the drums make this album? The guitars are nice, kinda wall of nice ambient noise and quite magnetic, but those drums just send it over the edge.
Kelly Moon Guess not.
Kelly Moon sorry man
butters226 I agree sir. Absolutely love the god damn drums.
Kelly Moon couldnt agree more! so fun and almost unique feeling playing over the album. needs a few good dozen push ups before siting behind the kit tho. the guy is a fucking machine.

The lot of them got me
The lyrics at that part really just push it that much further too.
I saw then in 2012 with Alcest, I didn't even know who they were. They're fantastic live.
Really wish I could've heard Dream House live. That song changed my life forever.
@@TheOfficialTyro they still play it live all the time! you'll still probably have a chance.
@@ghost__chips It's funny I said that considering last year they happened to stop in Buffalo NY and I got to see them perform it live!
the album is nothing short of a Masterpiece
Completely agreed, the perfect crossroads of post rock, shoegaze, black metal, hardcore, and emo
I am not even ashamed to say that the first time I listened to Sunbather I was in a shitty part of of my life. Deafheaven had me crying like a bitch by the end of the first song. I'm not even sorry, this band is legit. Respect from Yamoussoukro.
Same man, this band just make me feel things i cant even describe, the recent single Great Mass of Color gave me tears, this is the definition of music

That outtro to Dream House always makes my eyes water.
Holy fuck, the power in his voice.
At the end right? Fuck yea...its overwhelming...i just recently learned to scream but my scream sounds like job for a cowboy scream...not like georges
Oscar Garcia It's just so emotional, you can almost feel the strain in his voice yet he makes it seem so effortless
Beautiful. I wish this was 3 hours longer.
Awesome
A had lucky to see this guys last show 2023 in São Paulo...
i wish i was there tbh
8 years later I discovered Deafheaven, it became one of my favorite albums ever
Welcome :)
9 years and 6 months later, it became one of my favorite albums ever
@@leandrometfan A sneaky classic from the 2010's. It is pure headphone magic. The songs are great and the sound is just as great.
Its pretty awesome to see what the album looks like being recorded and getting to see them do certain takes. But holy shit. The fuckin vocals were crazy. Gives me the chilly willies watching it.
5:34 George: I wish I can play guitar like that.
sunbather is what i feel the title of the song playing in the background is
truly "irresistible"
i love this album
that little bit of Dream House at the end. my god.
10 years! Omg congratulations this is such a timeless work of art
Wow.....those vocals are absolutely killer. Just look at the emotion and work ethic he's putting into them, it'll be amazing to see his live performance. I seriously can't wait for this.
6:51 when mom wakes me up
wish there was more videos for these guys
I don't care how blackmetal it is or not is, shoegaze, postrock whatever. It's a great album and it gets better the more you listen to it. Perfect.

calling it now. record of the year
Wow. That comment was really on point. And it's been considered as you said.
You were right
Welp, you guys did it. You made one of the top 100 overall best albums of the 2010's.
This is just pure art,the final part i screamed too a long with this video, thats how much i love this band
6:51 i cried
So powerful in places it's liable to knock over nearby trees. Amazing work.
This album is so fucking amazing. Sooo, captivating and immersive, from the beautiful chords, the shrill, passionate vocals. Jeez, this was such a huge step up.
Holy fucking shit, George.
Excellent album.
Those vocals at the end. Fucking hell.
6:21 perfection till the end
oh man his vocals sound so much better when you hear them raw. I think they get buried in the reverby mix on the album.
that's the intention. why do so many people not get this?
Thats the point...to make it sound distorted...still sounds nice
that's the shoegazy aspect of it.
i wish there were a version with more present vocals though, just to hear them properly. what's the point in being 'shoegaze' if it takes a vocal delivery like and essentially turns it to nothing.

Irresistible has been stuck in my head for days
I'm dying.
Is it blissful?
It's like a dream.
I want to dream.
I want to dream.
Holy testicles. I take back everything nasty I've ever said about metal or screamed vocals. That is human expression epitomized.
this record is always on my studio playlist so it's nice to see them in studio 👊
6:52 the feels.....
I was about to lay a comment asking if anyone elses heart broke at that mark, the amount of passion and force that he puts into that part alone, you can see it in his face and hear it in his voice. He gave it everything
Bryan Proteau does everything, man. He is an amazing tattoo artist in addition to directing this and just being an all around cool dude.
So awesome going back to this footage! That last scream gave me *goosebumps!*
Dat drumming was FUCKING intense!! Those guitars were FUCKING intense!! Those vocals were FUCKING intense!! And I can't FUCKING wait to get this!! One of the best FUCKING records of 2013 definitely!
Perfect! Cant wait!
06:50 scream goes next to william wallace "freedom" one on my bone chilling chart
The clip at the end is amazing
I think that focusing on being a 'commercial' band and focusing on trying to NOT be a 'commercial' band is two sides of the same coin.
6:50
singer: I want to DRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM
drummer: You could have asked bro
Zacny Marcin lfmao
I am so excited!!!!
It is! The track is called Irresistible!
god i am so psyched
very awesome stuff.
Roads to Judah was awesome. Sunbather will be a killer record as well, I'm pretty sure of this!
This album is going to be fucking ridiculous. I can't wait.
So stoked for this!
does anybody know what George is doing with his hand at 6:22?
+Troy Cope Either to mimic a microphone to get it close to a live feel, or dispersing the sound of his voice
I think he kinda stops the air coming out of his nose.
DefThrone This. As a vocalist I do this in the booth as well. Helps you get into the live mentality I think.
I literally cannot wait. Holy shit.
I am excite.
Yep, will probably love this album as well:)
Did anyone else put their hand over their screen and pet the dog at 1:13?
6:18. That was incredible!
Stoked
yeah, you hold that invisible microphone.
cant wait
On point it is.. And thank you!
6:33 freacking brutal dude..
Wow, that take of George at te end. Holy shit.
THOSE SCREAMS!!!!!
I'd be nervous too if I were them, I've got high expectations for this release.
Anyone know what effect is used to make the guitar sound at 5:46?
it's almost certainly an ebow. Hard to tell from the angle of the camera, but that's generally what an ebow sounds like when you also run the guitar through delay and reverb pedals.
SO juiced!
What is the name of the gadget that used the guitarist at 5:47?
Bendegúz Batke ebow
Daan Roes cool! thank you!
To be clear, I love black metal, death metal, doom metal, sludge metal, etc. I just don't want to hear Under a Funeral Moon and De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas over and over again, but if you do, that's fine.
@ 6:21 That's my hubby right thur singing!!!!! Get it baby! :D
The main guitarist looks a little like Robby from New Girl.... sorry, its a really KVLT tv show
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
tfw the defining album of my teen years
Taimir Gore currently defining my teen years
Drummer is a fucking monster holy shit
Thankfully it was :3
I WANT TO CRY ;___;
Deafheaven's Irresistible, track two on the album.
@Irfan Shamsuddin "Dream House"
that drummer man is a fucken god
THE.CHILLS.....
I keep coming back for 1:58 and 6:16
i cant believe the drums were recorded with entry level cymbals....
This just goes to show that’s it’s more than having the best equipment sometimes. Solid skills and excellent recording/mastering
I have no doubt that it will be.
whats the song at 4:00?
vertigo
Anybody know what kind of Les Paul he's playing from 3:15 on? Haven't seen one with a tremolo like that..
Not sure how this is "mainstream". I don't know a single person that's heard of these guys and they're definitely not getting radio play or coverage in the (actual) mainstream media. I hope that the backtrack in the beginning actually is part of Sunbather.
paiste pst 5 :O
I want a follow up to this album to be called Moonbather
that'd be so sick
What effect is he using at 6:05
how many guitars do u think these guys record per song for the heavy parts? 3 , 4?
I got long hair and wear leather and I fucking love this band! More people should be like me and you! :p
such an amazing band
What song is playing in the beginning? It sounds like Explosions.
i want it so bad my god
why have I never seen this
Seems like they truly perfected their craft. My only problem on Roads To Judah was that the drums where pretty repetitive, there were mostly blastbeats, i am really surprised that there's a lot of variation on the drum work now.
is the second track of sunbather "Irresistible"
Doesa anyone know what tunning do they use?
