what a perfect band. from the shoegaze/ambient influences to the black metal style riffs. granted the chords are a bit bright for traditional black metal, but fuck, this is great.
If you watch the full performance George mentions before they play the song that its new and that it comes out next month. So they probably changed the lyrics for the studio version before it got released.
feel like i am somehow growing a resilient backbone at the same time that i am feeling shook to the core thanks to this song, like some kind of incorruptible vulnerability (which is by far probably the most timelessly important emotion i can think of as of now) thanks deafheaven
+Josh Schulz How are Deafheaven received in the land of Blackmetal...Norway? Do they accept them into the manifold...I don't say this lightly as the Norse bands are very pure and protective of Blackmetal's image and sound! I myself though love this band and how they've expanded the genre to a new audience and generation.
Wayne Threadgate I'm sure Varg would like to stab the members of Deafheaven 26 times and call it self-defense, but that doesn't matter. The only opinions that matter in music are the opinions of the musician, and the listener.
theMFBH Exactly!! Why spend your time watching something you don't like?? Obviously you are not a fan of the genre? NO ONE in Black Metal "hits any notes"!!
I find this awesome, it's great that they add some variety to the vocals, the singer sounded a bit one dimensional on Sunbather. Otherwise great band, and the fact that they're hated so much makes it even cooler.
It's really weird that there are so many hipsters enjoy this. I think Deafheaven is great, but I already listen to death metal and some black metal. It's good that they're getting so much exposure though.
Michael Abramo I never met someone who liked Deafheaven, that wasn't already a metalhead. I guess you can be a metalhead, and hipster at the same time?
Josh Schulz Deafheaven really got popular because of the recent resurgence of shoegaze. Deafheaven borrows a lot of influence from shoegaze bands which is popular among hipster indie-rock types.
whining about this band is pretty much useless. They haven't "ruined" black metal, just decided to do something different with it. Contrary to popular belief, there are still way more "orthodox" BM bands than bands like this, so to assume that bands like this "destroy" black metal is just absurd to assume.
The vocal sounds so different from what I remember. When I recently saw them on live in May, it's fantastically amazing, George's vocal serves so well, and his "perfomance" on stage still get me some nights. I'm guessing the recording in this video has something to do about it? I dunno, George sounds like fucking Hitler from "Der Untergang". Maybe someone who attended pitchfork MF can share some thoughts on this? Also enough with the Metal or Non-metal thing, people don't listen to a band just because they're "Metal" outfit, they listen to them because they like them. Spreading the hate and trying to explain how shit this is or somehow they ruined the Genre are meaningless in all ways. But hey, do whatever you like. It's not like I can stop you from doing it or something.
George's vocals in this set are traditional black metal as fuck. Which is cool, but I think his usually screaming suits their style of music better. But hey, let em experiment.
I've seen deafheaven last week in vienna and it was amazing. it was the first time and i had no expectations. to judge music style´s, is only possible for yourself. to say this is shit, shows that person has no music understanding. simply immature and childish. judge for yourself, that's ok, but not generally.
He doesn't seem to have much of a techinque lol , he has even said in interviews he blew his voice out a lot when they first started But to be honest his "style" sounds painful as shit still XD
+Anthony James but they could put a shit laod more energy in their performance, jumping around and headbanging and shit but i guess this is not the scene for that
+Anthony James They sounds like depressive-suicidal black metal so I don't think if headbanging or jumping Is necessary. This music is more to just stand and listen to beatiful instrumental ^^
Compare this with some Drudkh albums...is it even remotely in the same ballpark or is Drudkh like the professors of this "aesthetic" and these guys are merely freshman.......
I agree. Classifications are useful if I am looking for new music, and want a very general idea of what a band will sound like, but I don't expect every band to be a cookie-cutter demonstration of the genre elements. And I don't judge a band by their adherence or non-adherence to genre convention. (Apparently a lot of people do, hence all the ranting.)

It's pink metal!
@@QuadiePoo lmfao
Haters keep on hating. This is quality shit.
Exactly.
Love the straight shoegazy part of the song.
That one guy that's lost in the mosh pit at 2:00 haahahahah
haha! Yeah that guy does look totally lost with a big smile on his face lol!!!
oblivion and joy amongst chaos. love it, dance man, just sta
nd and dance :)
Lmao
+LagxCrispycreme it me
LagxCrispycreme that is so funny!!
I'm curious as to what the lyrics to this are, they don't match the studio version at all.
Evan Guzman I like that George is kinda like "Eh fuck it I'm writing new lyrics because I can. Suck it, haters."
thewagesofben1 no, thats just being a lazy fuck.
If you watch the full performance George mentions before they play the song that its new and that it comes out next month. So they probably changed the lyrics for the studio version before it got released.

The best if not... THE GREATEST Black Metal band of ALL TIME!!! Deafheaven, I salute you!
TheJeffum One of the best.

Is it just me or are the first verse's lyrics different than the studio version's?
Fucking sick vocals,,,,,,,hoping the new record all sounds like this??
Lame as fuck vocals. Screaming does not equal talent. Noise does not equal music. Hit some fucking notes already.
theMFBH Thank you the overseer of saying what is music and what is not.
theMFBH Hey, man. This is black metal. Just sayin.
theMFBH Exactly!! Why spend your time watching something you don't like?? Obviously you are not a fan of the genre? NO ONE in Black Metal "hits any notes"!!
I agree! I'm really loving his new vocal style
cat sound at 1:12
Homme at 4:02?
Josh Homme at 4:01 (y)
Stefan Sommer It looks exactly like him hahaha
Thank you
love the new song ahhh
Pretty solid set, lame crowd. What's with the happy faces? Don't they get what George was singing?
They got the shoegaze side
Americans.
I wonder if this song will be on a single track 7 inch, that would be dope
omg good new songe
Awesome band, one of the few good new bands around.
does anyone know what hes singing here? cause its obviously not the same as in the studio version
george clarke 👍👍👍👍

Someone please tell me what guitar Kerry is playing
It's a custom job, here's a link: dunableguitars.com/moonflower-kerry-mccoy-deafheaven/
***** It seems like you can get your own as well dunableguitars.com/moonflower/#moonflower-quote
raw
The lyrics sound different here than compared to the studio version
That's what I think too. It doesn't match up to the studio version.
He kinda Looks like g easy, great song!

Is it just me or are the lyrics in this video different to the ones the band published a few days ago??
n0i0h0i0l Yeah, the lyrics he sings in this video are different than the studio version.

which album is this from? I'd like a recorded version, mix here isn't great
It's a new song. They're releasing it as a single later this month.
thanks, the new album should be great
Check the adult swim singles page, if you haven't already. :-)
The vocals have a great influence by Chuck Schildner. It's a great voice :D
Joan Saag Pretty much all extreme metal is influenced by Chuck, somewhere in the music.
George's vocals in this set are traditional black metal as fuck. Which is cool, but I think his usually screaming suits their style of music better. But hey, let em experiment.
Scoop Scoopian This is his usual screaming, he was just really tired/didn't prepare right for that set.

I, of vengeance Hxc Black metal is supposed to sound that way.
I think it would be kind of strange to see Deafheaven during the day in a festival environment. Doesn't really suit their music.
yeah it sort of does...
buncha' Sunbathers I tell ya!
I am what I always waaaaaas
that,s fine, Fast.................FASTTTTTT............most.....almost......fine...,
Reminds me of Gaahl
Minus Satan
The reason i like this is probs cause i dont listen to much actual black metal so i don't think of it in that context
+Anthony James but they could put a shit laod more energy in their performance, jumping around and headbanging and shit but i guess this is not the scene for that

MultiKamil97 i guess so
+MultiKamil97 or people can just enjoy the music how they like. as long as they're not attempting to actively hurt or annoy anyone who cares?
+MultiKamil97 👍👍👍👍👍

people get way too worked up about these guys in either direction.
The music is good...just don't look at the video it doesn't match
The mix on the live stream I remember to be alright, but these videos are just terrible
1.It seems this band can not keep a steady line up for shit.
2.That singer is trying to hard.
pureeeeeeeeeeeeeee shitttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
problem BRA?!?
what the fuck is this
At least you admit you are confused, unlike everyone who is so annoyingly firm in their genre classification. haha
Aaron Jaco
its a rhetorical question
anaemiabag well at least your rhetoric is better than everyone who is so annoyingly firm in their genre classification
