Oh wow. We thought this was a light hearted romp like Toy Story. So we watched it with our kids who are 4 and 6. By the time us adults realised this was going to be about loss, our kids were already so riveted by the story that we warily stayed with it.
And actually, I'm glad I didn't know what this was about, because I wouldn't have played it. And it was an incredibly rich, thought provoking and heart warming story. Its brutal. I cried a LOT. The kids didnt. They were horrified by Zozo's brutality, but also sympathetic to his pain. They wondered if if bully must have a mean family who make him mean. They LOVED the twist at the end, that that wonderful little girl at the beginning was going to be Ollie's kid afterall.
I think the maturity of children will surprise you if you give them the chance to experience feelings. That's what this film did for us.

Im writing this RIGHT after binge watching this short show and my thoughts on Lost Ollie, If Shakespeare wrote Toy Story. This mini series made me cry HARD. The last episode made me fight with my emotions trying to hold back very very painful tears clinching my teeth my nose getting stuffy and gripping on my phone I was watching. This mini series has it all! The twists work as twists should. Where Shakespeare shines is in the third episode when it’s main focus is Zozo and it gets really really Dark. The scene that I’m sure made everyone else feel how I felt was when Billy’s mom can see Ollie and what she whispers to him. Lost Ollie definitely gets a 10/10.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting anything deep at all. Just thought it was a feel-good Toy Story-esque series that me and my dad could passively watch. But I was _not_ ready for Zozo's backstory and him suddenly losing it and showing his true colours, not especially him literally tearing out Ollie's heart. Like, HOT DANG- I used to love Zozo 'cause at first, he sounded like that wise old man kind of friend. He may be a bit cynical and lost, but he's all out with supporting Ollie and it was wholesome, until his backstory was revealed and I was pleasantly surprised with him beating the absolute crap about that poor rhino.
Though, I absolutely love how EVERYTHING is tied together. I remember freaking out about it, because most movies just throw in random things and never get back to it later on, and it just makes me feel so unsatisfied. But even seeing Suzy actually being Billy's daughter, and Nina was bought by the mom and now metaphorically sort of living inside Ollie. Just seeing how everything plays a part within each other is just so extremely satisfying to me. I could say more, but I think this comment is getting way too long lmao.
All in all, the character designs and animations for the toys were really good. Ollie's floppy ears are hilariously adorable. The series was surely pretty sad. But it's really heartwarming to see Ollie restored, reunited with Billy, and now making the daughter's childhood.
Though I still wonder what actually happened to Zozo and Rosy. I mean, they got carried away from the rain, and then, they were just gone. I equally loved them both, so I really wonder what ever happened to them and if they also got their own happy endings somehow lol.

Now this is what I consider fantastic writing at 1st I felt the dad was kind of being a Dick to Billy but I didn't know why why and it was because he was suffering inside knowing his wife was dying or possibly dying and it was making him hurt and bitter and the story is written so well that it keeps you just where you need to be until pretty much the very end we're even what The Teddy bear was told from the dying mother my mother told to Billy as an adult to his own daughter is Finally revealed it was heartbreaking and made me cry it was such a sweet awesome amazingly beautiful movie that I wish would be shown in art schools and directing schools it's in directing schools and theater for people to understand how to construct and make a beautiful movie that is riveting

I like to think the different toys represent how Billy sees the situation he is thrown in. Ollie represents wanting to go back to simpler times, back when his mother was alive, and back when everyone was happy. Rosie represents how he probably felt alone after his mother died and abandoned, and Zozo is a bit of a stretch, but I think it represents how he sees his dad reacting to her death maybe?

Made me legit cry in a way no story has in a long time. What surprised me most though was that I couldn't hate or condemn Zozo, even at the end. An empathy which I did not feel for Lotso. I think it's because while Lotso was filled with hate, Zozo was filled with pain.

I wouldn't personally call being bullied by being called 'a baby' "ready to grow up" - Billy is being pressured to grow up, and, whether or not he's truly ready vs his mourning process doesn't really get addressed. I get that the nature of this show is simplified as it's told through a child's eyes, but it's one thing to lose his parent, another thing to say goodbye to childhood entirely after a couple of people make you feel bad for engaging with something he links so strongly to that parent he's lost. Ollie isn't just a toy, he's an item he personally bonded over with his mother after she made it for him.

    • @UnleashTheGhouls
      @UnleashTheGhouls  2 года назад +2

That's a very fair comment! I took the image of Billy seeing Ollie lying in the rain while being bullied as a turning point in his life when he decides to finally leave behind childish things. He absolutely is pressured too, which is a great comment Ellen!

if I'm being honest I had a hard time connecting with this series and the pacing was a little awkward, but having lost my mother at a young age Billy's loss was something I could deeply relate to. I absolutely love Rosy though, she was my favorite character and I really wanted to see her get a happy ending. her character design is adorable and cool

I didn't get it, why is NOBODY asking the question of how these toys move around and who can and can't see them? In Toy story there are set rules, in this it just seems that sometimes people can see them move and talk and yet others, they run under peoples feet and no one bats an eyelid, i just didn't get its logic.

Reading through these comments makes me realize we’ve entered an age where there just aren’t any intelligent adults around anymore.
I found this This movie damn near suicidally depressing. It was lazy screenplay writing, forced sentimentality, a mish mash of ToyStory meets chucky. They set you up with the first two episodes and then they take a hard U towards absolute Nietzsche level Existential Despair. I was actually angry at the end of the film because I got invested in the story. And then it takes a big dump on your head. It would have just been better to leave all the characters dead and rotting in the street, to really seal the deal if it being a dark saga. Instead of that, they try force feed you a Norman Rockwell ending as some sort of conflict resolution to the absolute onslaught of “nothing is permanent, love dies, we all die, everything you love ends up in the gutter, and you can’t stop it. This film is just horrendous.
