Everybody keeps saying "$60k???" You have to remember that only the fully loaded model with every box checked off sells for that much. The one most people will buy (Sport with Max Towing Group) is still priced in the $35-40k range which puts it squarely on par with every other truck in this segment. BUT....no other truck in this segment has a water resistant interior, convertible top, removable doors, 7,650 max towing rating, 1,650 max payload, a base engine that is a multi-year Ward's Best Engines award winner, or an upcoming diesel engine with 442 lbs/ft of torque. So......you're getting a L O T more truck for the money with the Gladiator.

I bought my zr2 for 38 and it easily does everything the gladiator does off road Some things better like high speed and some thing not as well like rock climbing so I’m sorry ur argument kinda sucks.

Keith, Same. In Austin/Central Texas area the sport S is going for about 44k-46k. Tacoma TRD offroads are averaging about 35k-38k. You’d spend less on the Tacoma even after heavily modifying it for hard off-road or overlanding use.

If you can afford 50-60k for a gladiator, and don't rock crawl, why not just get a ford raptor for 60-70k? It's as fast as sports cars, goes offroad, little depreciation, and is a much more credible status symbol.

@@RandomVideos-re9uxI drove both, Ford Raptors are much more drivable than gladiators unless you live in a city, in which case neither should be a good choice. Honestly, everything is getting expensive, especially if you want any luxuries. A pretty nicely outfitted Rubicon on our local lot is stickered $54,000, and they have top end Ram pickups at nearly $75,000 with dealer upgraded wheels and tires. Jeeps are going to kill you if you go for unnecessary options - leather is over a grand (and do you really need leather in a rough rider?) a top that matches the body color is a crazy couple thousand (or a dual top option will set you back too), the upgraded info screen (1.4 inches bigger than the 7") is also over a thousand (you get upgraded music that you'll never be able to hear in a Jeep and a nav system that probably isn't as good as your phone app.) Trailer tow is another pile of money to get a bunch of pretty switches you won't hook up (makes more sense for a Gladiator, you don't buy a Wrangler for towing.) I believe the LED lights are also over a thousand (nice, but THAT nice?) And if you want safety technology such as it is, you will have to pay a bunch for two separate packages. And if your butt gets cold, cold weather group is another thou. Consider what you really need and will use. With that said, at the price point for a Sahara/Overland or Rubicon, you would think you might get standard a decent size screen, LED headlights at least, front or surround camera, a roof liner, non-plastic bumper and a few basic safety tools like blind spot monitoring and front collision warning. Sport is fine with no frills, since people are going to buy them for budget or trade out a bunch of parts for off roading anyway.

The JT better for overlanding and moderate to difficult trails. On the road, which most people spend 90% of their driving, the JT is hands down the better ride. The JK is squirely on the road and requires constant driver input. The JT is more like driving a Taco or truck with IFS. I find myself using the JT more. In the future it will be riding on 40s with one ton axles. The JT also has the eco diesel and averages 23/25 even with 37s and has a butt ton more torque from 1800-2400 rpm than the Jk. I really believe for this price they should have lifted it and put 35s on it from the factory to get the specs closer to the Wrangler. It's just wrong in this configuration, and I would argue that it looks wrong too. A few will run them mostly stock but most are not and that makes it even more of a worse purchase choice. It's crazy that a ZR2 usually does better stock to stock. I think the Gladiator will easily out do anything modded out, but stock for stock its too close. Wrangler pricing has gone nuts. They cost more than a way better equipped (features, luxury and comfort) and better looking new Grand Cherokee! Back in '96, the Grand Cherokee went for about $26,000 base price, and Wrangler was half that.
It's exactly as another commenter pointed out, it's a friggin' fashion statement, a label, that's it. It's basically the Gucci of Jeep.

Is the Unlimited really that worse than the Gladiator as a truck? I mean maybe if you're going on theoretical maximums, but in a general practical sense? The Gladiator bed is only 60" long, whereas the cargo floor of the Unlimited with the seats down is almost 74" and that also keeps all the cargo inside, out of the elements. How often will you be hauling four people and cargo at the same time anyway? 60" is also too short for sleeping in, although you may just be able to make do with the tailgate down.
It seems like there's lot of overlap in usability between the two. I know the single cab market is dead, but the Jeep is a niche brand and never played by the rules of everybody else anyway. Make a single cab Gladiator - shorten the wheelbase, lengthen the bed, and it'd be great.
