I really love DA42 content, thanks for showing us the checklist and runup procedures. As a student pilot learning how to deal with ATC I also really enjoy hearing your conversations with ATC, it helps me a lot in my learning process to see how other people do it.
As a Commercially rated pilot based in CA, this is the absolute best. Thank you for this and please, more flying vids! Also, you’re a great pilot. Decent actor too ;)
Brings back memories. I landed countless times on that very runway (36L/18R) 30+ years ago when it was Bergstrom AFB. Shot my very first ILS to minimums on 18R on that runway. No auto/no glass cockpit (instrumentation). Great memories.
whatever you decide to put in your videos is what makes the videos unique to you. your personality is what makes it unique. those of us who are airplane nerds appreciate whatever you're willing to show. you could even show an unedited video from start to finish and some of us would watch it.
Nice DA42...cool paint scheme. The leather seats impressed me...the best interior I've seen in a diamond. Nice job with the video and enjoyed the additional context you provided regarding the trip (i.e., from coffee the morning before departure, your lady friend's fun questions, and concluding with some clips of the wedding). You both seemed super happy to be on a trip in your private aircraft. That's why I enjoy flying...my wife and I going on weekend trips to fun and interesting destinations. It's like a time machine that maximizes our good times/memories together. Much better than just including the technical pilot stuff...although as a PA28R owner I enjoy that too. Suggestions for future might include: always discuss cruise TAS, GS, ALT, with GPH info; you seemed to take off VFR but landed IFR maybe something to say there; how long was the trip vs. driving or flying commercial. I haven't watched your other videos yet, but interested to hear how you came to own a DA42 vs. the typical SR22. Nice choice by the way! Look forward to your future videos.
I betcha he chose DA42 because... - Second engine redundancy - FADEC controlled engines greatly reduce pilot workload - Jet A1 is a lot cheaper than AVGAS Let us know, Mr. Middleditch!
A friend of mine has just started flight school... and with this video, I'm basically a pilot without all the hassle they're going through. Thank you!! SUPER interesting!
I appreciate the share. Looking to pick up info on the DA-42 for my simming. I was a bit surprised, but happy to see your face. My daughter and I saw you at the Satellite years ago when the Peach Kings were playing. Hope you are well and appreciate the flying vids. Cheers.
Take-off and landing are the most difficult parts but cruising is the most beautiful. I don't know if that's a metaphor but those butter landings are great to watch. Would love to see a flight sim on Twitch!
I am so happy to have stumbled upon this video. I will be beginning my MEI later this month in a DA42 NG. Great to follow along with all your checkflows. Will commit the LUPPS check to memory. Would love to see more of your flying videos. Fly safe.
I was about to be that guy said, “wow! you would like that one actor!” First off, love your work. Truly. But this is WAY more awesome. Thanks for sharing!
LOVE the flight content!! This was super interesting, so cool to hear all the communications over the radio, I've always wondered how that worked. Editing was great too!!
This is so sick!! Thanks for this inside look dude!! Would love more of this content as well! I’ve flown passenger in commercial flights a lot and recently a curiously for flying the planes has sparked, and this was the perfect video to get me more curious!
Thanks for sharing, Thomas. You are a very good pilot. It would have been interesting to hear the takeoff briefing. I'm currently working on my MEL rating in a DA 42 in Seattle. Best wishes and safe travels in 2024!
Very cool, man! Thanks for taking us along! I would love to see more aviation stuff like this(Just realized this came out in October, hopefully you've done more!) Was super cool seeing you go through the checklists and stuff. I recently started flying in MFS2020, and have been learning to fly the Diamond DA62 which has an almost identical setup to the 42 you're flying. I just flew my very first successful custom flight from Cincinnati to Chicago last night, so seeing you go through all the same checklists and knowing the different buttons you're pushing and all that was really cool! Love seeing all the cool shit you're into man. The Aviation, Red Dead, it's all great! Now I think I'll go fly the LA>Tucson>Austin flight in the sim :) Thanks for the inspiration!
I started watching this video and kept thinking "wow this guy looks a lot like Thomas Middleditch" or if I'm being honest, "wow this guy looks a lot like the guy from Silicon Valley". Cool to see you're interested in flying!
I learned to fly at KAUS - that approach brings back a ton of memories. My knuckles sweating on my first solo. There’s way more traffic there now. It was class c back then so it was a good chill class c for radio training.
Hello Mr. Middleditch! I'm ATP rated and work for a corporate operator here in the states. I just want to say, I have always had the perspective that people in Hollywood have no idea how to fly airplanes (Ford pretending to fly a C680, Travolta, e.t.c), but after watching this video you have convinced me that this is not true! You have a great amount of airmanship and really seem to know the airplane you are flying even just at the PPL level. I would not have doubted it if you said you were commercially rated. Great callouts, flying, your replacement for GUMPS check (lol) and I really enjoyed the video, seeing an actor I liked in Silicon Valley sharing a passion I have had my entire life! Fly safe and tailwinds!
Love the mix of Flying / vlog keep it coming ! ... 😁 pickle ball is nice and all , but you should try Padel tennis ! cant wait to see your next adventure
Re: lights and birds, supposedly the optional pulsing LED landing lights available on 737-NG’s (and I would assume Max models) scare birds. I don’t know if there’s much in the way of science behind that however.
We definitely want more, and I think it's okay to simply place a phone or camera near the window as well to capture the scene. You know, it's very calm. Thank you so much man!
Great show, a salesman for Diamond told me to check out your channel because I'm in the process of buying a plane. Great stuff, also a big fan of Silicon Valley.
Hey man I remember you stopping in Starkville, MS last year. You came in with a 22 knot gusting 32 winds from the south with 400 feet minimums 😂. Glad I found your channel! 💯
"Wanna go in one of those but they must go really slow for me" 🙂 Great (and cool insert of "music" there ;-) ... Greetings from Land of Diamond Aircraft (Austria)
Love these kinds of videos -- a little details on the trip and process, then the destination and what you did. Perfect. I found your video because of your DA42, and I kept thinking your personality has a lively quirk and happiness that is familiar.. Oh yea, I know now. I'm more of a fan now because you love aviation.
Good video and I for one would love to hear more about your aviation journey - how and why you got interested, flight school, how you choose this airplane. Safe travels!
I forgot you were going to Austin in the video and then when you landed and the shots walking around I was like "Man that city looks so familiar" and then realized it is where I literally live.
This was recommended to me from the aviation side of youtube and it took me a few seconds before I realized it was Thomas Middleditch. Had no idea you were a pilot!
Got my PPL at KAUS. Lots of big boy traffic, jets etc. Always got vectored aggressively to get out of the way in the 172. Austin also has terrible weather for learning to fly. You should try DCS with a squadron or VTOL (can mod to flatscreen) for a simpler version.
Very well done on the video. I fly a DA42 VI out of the Seattle area. Such a great xcountry plane. It was interesting seeing the steps for navigating the LA airspace on a VFR flight!
Beautiful aircraft. Nice to get a Birds Eye view of the cockpit and flight ops. Would love to hear about what got you interested in flying and why you choose the DA42?
Dude, wtf! :-D I'm a pilot now and fly DA20, 40, 42, and got this video recommended on my start page. Was wondering why you looked familiar! Dooooooooobs!!!!! 😀
Super interested in flying and that is a nice ass plane. Those are the top of the line Garmin's and a turbo prop I believe. You have your twin engine cert too. I watch a lot of flying videos you're my favorite actor and finally I get both in one video!
Takes a lotta guts to improv as a pilot. I respect it
Love seeing the flying content! Beautiful aircraft 🤘
I really love DA42 content, thanks for showing us the checklist and runup procedures. As a student pilot learning how to deal with ATC I also really enjoy hearing your conversations with ATC, it helps me a lot in my learning process to see how other people do it.
More of this, please! We really need more people like you with a talent for timing and storytelling in the Aviation RUclips community.
This was super interesting! And you did great with the editing, thanks for sharing.
"Do we have time for a squawk?" I'm always saying that... Great stuff keep it up!
As a Commercially rated pilot based in CA, this is the absolute best. Thank you for this and please, more flying vids! Also, you’re a great pilot. Decent actor too ;)
Yes, more flight content, por favor!
Thomas STOP!!! being such an utter delight it’s really pissing me off!!! Love you, this was awesome.
Sincerely Thank You !!!
The Perspective is Perfection !!!
We Really Appreciate You Sharing this Experience With Us !!!
2 of my favorite things! Aviation and pasta boy! What a crossover.

This really was very enjoyable! I liked all the communication on the radio, it was really cool to hear!
First video I'm watching of yours. STOKED to see this aviation content! Would love to see more. Subscribed!
5:10 Love your editing skills
I appreciate the share. Looking to pick up info on the DA-42 for my simming. I was a bit surprised, but happy to see your face. My daughter and I saw you at the Satellite years ago when the Peach Kings were playing. Hope you are well and appreciate the flying vids. Cheers.
This is awesome content! Please more of this! Flight planning, pre-flight, en-route, etc! I really enjoyed the editing, commentary and views.
Was I the only person who only realized at the end of the video that his "best bud Martin" was actually Martin Starr? Congrats to Martin!
Got right to the meat of the vlog, which most people don’t do, love that! These are cool
Thanks for sharing your departure from Whiteman. As a helicopter guy, it's always interesting to see how fixed-wing ops work.
This was great, I can dig it, it was a nice balance of explanation and b roll. Also, that plane you got there is real purty. Good stuff
Wow - TM's a pilot! Who knew? Very cool.
Take-off and landing are the most difficult parts but cruising is the most beautiful.
I don't know if that's a metaphor but those butter landings are great to watch.

video is so interesting, love hearing you talk the pilot mumbo jumbo, and seeing martin at the end was the cherry on top
Great video! Love the personality that comes through and the creativity you have in the video. Please do more. Fly safely!
I genuinely thought he was playing a practical joke.
Well done, mate 👏✈️
Congratulations to Martin 🎉
This was super interesting and very cozy, loved it!
This was just recommended to me. I’ve been a pilot for 3 years. And I’ve watched you since the College Humor days. This is awesome!!!!
This is so sick!! Thanks for this inside look dude!! Would love more of this content as well!
I’ve flown passenger in commercial flights a lot and recently a curiously for flying the planes has sparked, and this was the perfect video to get me more curious!
This video was delicious. More flight videos would be awesome!
Thanks for sharing, Thomas. You are a very good pilot. It would have been interesting to hear the takeoff briefing. I'm currently working on my MEL rating in a DA 42 in Seattle. Best wishes and safe travels in 2024!
Firs time viewer here. I came for the ride-along to Austin. More content like this will keep me coming back. I love Whiteman airport.
Dude, this is so cool. Thanks for sharing!

Dude, you’re a pilot?! That’s awesome!
Really cool getting to go through the checklist with you. Beautiful plane. Safe travels
Great vid Tommy! Love the flying vids. Beautiful plane also sir.
That tiny hit of HDBeenDope was a lovely edit 😎 4:51
Love it! I came wait to see more! Thanks for sharing Thomas!
Amazing new intro Thomas!💚
Great edit! Loved the vibe of this. Keep it coming! :)
wow very interesting experience friend
Yes ! I’m always scouring the RUclips inter web for da42 content. I plan to purchase one in the next year!
I learned to fly at KAUS - that approach brings back a ton of memories. My knuckles sweating on my first solo. There’s way more traffic there now. It was class c back then so it was a good chill class c for radio training.

More please! I absolutely drool over the DA42 and 62!
More please, also would like more explanation of what you’re saying to the tower and what everything means but loved every min of this one! 👌
Love the mix of Flying / vlog keep it coming ! ... 😁 pickle ball is nice and all , but you should try Padel tennis ! cant wait to see your next adventure
This was fantastic. The flying is wonderful but just seeing the casual is wonderful. Looking forward to the next! Keep it up and middle out for life.

Currently studying for my PPL and really enjoyed this!
Hey man I remember you stopping in Starkville, MS last year. You came in with a 22 knot gusting 32 winds from the south with 400 feet minimums 😂. Glad I found your channel! 💯
You and like the same things. I appreciate you sharing this. Keep it up!
Loved the video, keep them coming. I did my multi in a DA42, but it didn't look like your plane...lol. yup, those trainers are something else...
Congrats to Martin Starr on the wedding!
Absolutely MORE of this content! I had no idea you were a pilot, let alone a proficient one! Great vid!
Wait, this isn't AF95..
Love this content/editing style and would love love love more aviation vids!
Wow my favorite show’s main character is also a pilot lol I love you bro and silicon valley great content !!!
Great content, great flying! Being able to do this is pretty aspirational for me, so I love getting a chance to see someone else do it too
Flying Burrito Brothers*. Great vid!
I dig it my flying brother ! Liked and subscribed 🎉
definetely not cringe. Great video!
love it, man. from a person that doesn't fly too often but loves to mess around with flight sims, this is very enjoyable :)
leave whatever in you have to, in order to make these videos as long as possible. Love the content man it is so varying and interesting at all levels.
"Wanna go in one of those but they must go really slow for me" 🙂 Great (and cool insert of "music" there ;-) ... Greetings from Land of Diamond Aircraft (Austria)
Diamonds are the absolute most beautiful metal birds out there.
They're not metal! 😂
This was great! Absolutely would watch more about your air adventures. Loved the checklist and run up. The edit seemed perfect for me.
Fascinating. More please
Love these kinds of videos -- a little details on the trip and process, then the destination and what you did. Perfect. Very cool!!! Thinking about getting my pilot license!!
Coming fresh off your rewatch of Doobs with Jake and Amir this is wild
I forgot you were going to Austin in the video and then when you landed and the shots walking around I was like "Man that city looks so familiar" and then realized it is where I literally live.
you're at the same airport as @socalflyingmonkey - great guy and cinematographer!
Tucson has a cool air and space museum!
This was recommended to me from the aviation side of youtube and it took me a few seconds before I realized it was Thomas Middleditch. Had no idea you were a pilot!

Great jorb Tommy! Your pilot skills are impressive.
Beautiful aircraft. Nice to get a Birds Eye view of the cockpit and flight ops. Would love to hear about what got you interested in flying and why you choose the DA42?
This is beautifully shot and edited! Thanks for sharing. (Also Hanna’s tattoo is so pretty)
Great job! Luv the video, keep them coming. And Thank you for landing on the centerline. Not many Aviation RUclipsrs can do that.
Loved this! Keep 'em coming! It's all so incredibly interesting - Also...LOVE the Fair Dink 'Em jersey 🐀
Dude, wtf! :-D I'm a pilot now and fly DA20, 40, 42, and got this video recommended on my start page. Was wondering why you looked familiar! Dooooooooobs!!!!! 😀
No way!! I’m a relatively new pilot out of VNY (130 hours), let me know if you ever need a flying buddy! Loved the video!! More pls!
Great video, great editing. Great!
Super interested in flying and that is a nice ass plane. Those are the top of the line Garmin's and a turbo prop I believe. You have your twin engine cert too. I watch a lot of flying videos you're my favorite actor and finally I get both in one video!
Love the video! Thank you for sharing
I'm not a pilot, so maybe I'm easily impressed, but the checklist in your avionics in really cool :)
I've never had the tower open on the takeoff roll, lol!
I know, right? Are you supposed to abort the takeoff roll and ask for takeoff clearance? 😂
