I could really use a build 42 in my life right now
I could build a new life also
Amen!
@@AceDrgn you could really build a new life before 42 right now
Same bud, same
I'd just be happy if it came out before the end of my life.
The fact they showed up ramps for cars between levels got me excited. I cannot wait for a map with actual elevation. Imagine maps with mountain ridge roadways, valleys, and so forth.
Or just a large parking building, since I assume that is going to be the primary use of these ramps
I'm here imagining mines, or millitary bases/bunkers in mountains wich would be incredible
as someone who doesn't kniw anything about game dev, idk if this is something that'll be released in build 42, but even without actual elevation build 42 has a lot going on, so even some of it not making immediately in the game is a-ok for me, I'm a guy who waited 4 years for dwarf fortress to come out on steam and was fine with adventure mode not being implemented yet
i imagine myself driving of the side of a hill and absolutely totalling my car already!
Fingers crossed, that's the sort of thing they've got planned. Guess we'll have to wait and see!
The thought of having a subway or sewer system as an alternative way to get around a city is very exciting 🎉
The possibilities are endless and exciting!
Boutta do a Metro 2033 playthrough in build 42
Also sounds like the perfect death trap with ultimate jump scares, haha.
@@GameArchivesOfficial Probably safer to set your gun off in though to clear out any surprises then anywhere else
@@seamusfinnegan1164 Very true! And gain the hard of hearing trait afterwards 😂
Oh fuck finally, we're def getting a huge underground Metro map mod. Can't wait!
Can you imagine a 31 floor skyscraper emptying out? I hope sound has an upwards limit 😂
I support this avidly.
It already exists and he plans to port it into the underworld of B42 if possible :D
Some metro exodus shit where on the surface it is a winter wasteland where to survive you need to wear a gas mask and the only way to survive is to be underneath collecting gas canisters through the dark metro system.
There's also a super decent basements mod... But both of them are made by teleporting the player to a different map location currently (as far as I'm aware, not a modder), what I meant was an actual underground for the map, where you could travel from city to city without going outside@@thesugarbaron8712
I hope we can finally see new elevation in the map in terms of vertically. Even if we're not driving straight up mountains, being able to drive on minor cliff sides could be neat.
I can't say for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if that's the eventual plan with this sort of tech.
Check out there roadmap on google you'll find your answer there
Kentucky isn't particularly mountainous right? At least Knox. At most I'd expect hills, but modded maps including mountains would be amazing
Im so here for this.
Atomic duck, youve been a fantastic resource while learning this game.
I look forward to more.
My ancestors will really get a kick out of the build 42 release in a few generations!
The new sounds, lighting and animations that give immersion are almost enough for me to want to play this in singleplayer, NPCs would definitely make SP as memorable as MP, building your own settlement, managing your logistics and recruiting an army of survivors to fight the undead and other hostile settlements would be sick
NPC's are supposed to come back with build 43, though who knows how long that will take. At least build 42 will be full of things I'm really pumped about, hell, with the animal code, it's likely modders will give us good NPC's before the devs will.
@@lemax6865 Not even Build 43, NPCs are supposed to start coming Build 42 as a very weak foundation being the animals, B43 will have more fleshed out animals and NPCs, and build 44-45 will focus on finalising NPCs so they feel like they're apart of the world
@@SurroundSt I'm counting the animals as something separate from NPC's. Even though they're similar in many ways from a coding perspective, they're less like characters and more like resources from the player's perspective. That's why I said build 43.
@@lemax6865 Build 41 is actually apart of their Build 43 project as well, B41 was the foundation for the foundation of the experimental NPC code that would be used by the animals, and I assume the rest of Build 42 and maybe even start of Build 43 would focus on fleshing out the animal AI
Between the smoother new view cone and the massively improved lighting I believe they've also gone and upped the probability of jump scares exponentially! Even after 11 years of playing they still get me from time to time in B41, I can only imagine how much worse it's going to be with the atmospheric upgrades in B42. time to buy some more emergency pants!
But in all seriousness this devblog update is, as they've all been honestly, really getting me buzzing for Build 42. So many epic changes and upgrades coming it's going to be brilliant, and it's great to see how much they're paying attention to and looking out for modders especially in terms of map compatibility too, I know that's not always a guarantee with engine upgrades.
"Soon (TM)".. 🎶"underground, overground, Zomboiding free. The zombies of Knox County killers we'll be!"🎶 Cheers Mr Duck!
My pleasure as always!
I appreciate ALL the work done so far and of course am looking forward to the future. I don't want to hear about ANY crunching, just keep up the fine work and when THEY'RE READY to release I'm sure I'll enjoy. Change can be a pain but hey it's the...zombie apocalypse gotta...improvise, adapt, overcome.
Given how slowly this game updates, I think you’re highly unlikely to hear about any crunching.
@@GaribaldiBiscuitI think the speed will start to ramp up after this build because they've already been working on b43 for a while now. Don't know why they did it, but I think they're planning on ramping up updates hoping that it'll get another popularity boost when 42 releases
@@GaribaldiBiscuit lmao
good to see some optimization, and them saying it is very noticeable, i really needed that
Fingers crossed!
Same, I like the game but it doesn't really run fantastically well on my mid-mid range system. Still very playable but just annoying. Supposedly the optimization is like night and day from what they said
This game is cpu killer
Thx for the info and the work
You bet!
Why is it that every time i see one of these update videos i get more and more excited for it? i call it sorcery!
In all seriousness, this is shaping to be a really interesting update and I'm all here for it
Hype train is in full motion 🚆
Subscribed, first time the statistics worked for me
Very much appreciate it! 😄
I'm subscribed. I love your videos. Great work.
Awesome, thank you!
Exciting news! Sounds like a beta release is coming up soon. The parking garage footage was a huge surprise, and the visibility cone looks like it got toned down and softer. Much better. The hype is starting to heat up!
Feels like we're really getting close to the finish line now :)
Great video thank you for making this videos. Its a gread add to playing the game and staying up to date! I also love to find out about new mods this way
Glad to help! Thanks for the support :)
@@MrAtomicDuck just a dumb question for a Zomboid noob. If build 42 comes out does that mean most of the mods will be broken/out of date?
Many mods will need to be updated, yes. It's not the modding apocalypse some people make it out to be as many will remain in-tact and unhampered, but anything working with crafting or inventories will likely need to make some changes for the new systems.
Optimization, lighting, and the cone view changes has me excited!
With the basement changes i can already see a mod to add the hive from resident evil into Raven creek map mod
Oooo... I like this.
Just picked up the game. Looking forward to digging in.
never heard the salsa music in the background intro, love it!
The visuals look so much better in these clips. The performance and rendering improvements will be game changing. Can’t wait to experience all of the new features. Thanks for the detailed update!
the performance upgrades r actualy pretty cool. I recently have transitioned from 3x zombie pop to 4x, and the fps decrease is nearly crippling. At most zoomed out I am lucky to hit 20 fps, and thats with 0 zombies on screen in Rosewood. It gets only worse when I transition to an area i havent cleared yet. Even when most zoomed in at my base which is relaticyl clear after 2.5k zombie kills, i only get around 25 maybe 30 on a good day.
I'm so excited about this update. 😍
Right?!
Yes. The zombie hoard update. I thought about a system like that. If you have a group, they can share some animations until the player or collider is near
Honestly the new Lighting system is the thing I'm most hyped about in 42
cant wait for this
Very cool!
Ive always wanted to take over a parking structure for rooftop farm and ample space for my car collection. Hopefully soon i can.
Ive had the itch to play for a few months now but im holding out for this update. Im extremely excited about the idea of going hunting and starting my own little farm
My steam deck oled 1 tb will arrive this January 30. I can’t wait to play this game. This game is already on my wishlist
The best Project Zomboid news channel, thanks.
I get the power of 2 computers thing and 32 levels above and below ground is quite good. However, I would think it would make sense to bias it towards more levels above ground and sacrifice some of the below ground levels via an offset. In real life, the current record seems to be 163 floors above ground but probably only around 10 levels down below. Wonder if these levels will enable outdoor terrain such as hills in the future.
My first thought when I read and saw how the new height system is hills and mountains! I can already imagine how the modders are going to take advantage of this to give us actual height differences to the map. We can already see a little of it with mods like Bendy's Bunker but so much more now that they can go up or down and in multiple levels. Seeing the various mods adding bridges over the Ohio being elevated so that the boats from Aquatsar can continue to travel the river is also something I am greatly looking forward to. Of course, the thing I am looking forward to the most with B42 still remains animals. They'll will very literally breath to live into the game, finding something other then zombies around and also giving a sense of purpose to the character in this new world we are in. But also the ideas of just what the modding community will do with those animals and with the new coding. I can see even better rudimentary NPC mods coming out. Improvements to the animals themselves. New animals being added. It's going to be great!
So excited for December 29th (:
the new crafting system looks dope, I hope they can eventually expand that to vehicles so we have mad max style modifications to them
You know its gonna be a good year when Build 42 is coming out!
Love to hear there are optimization since I do lag a bit when im completely zoomed out with a lot of zombies on screen. I hope they also give us 60fps ui since we are still on 30 fps. I do play on 1440p
Kept checking if you were gonna put out a thursdoid video
Always! I usually get them out on Sundays :)
I wonder if the map will get a future overhaul to have elevation for areas. I'd love to set up a base on a mountain.
Very exciting news
Cant wait for this god damn update
Hold the line my friend!
Sexy update! Even have a ballpark estimate of beta release!
Finally, been on b42 waiting bench since forever!
Built 42 boutta slap me harder than my momma did when I was a kid 🔥 Finally ready to pick this game up again after taking a hiatus
Omg 😂
that light cone is a punch in the eye
Good job you'll be able to customize it then :)
When I saw the newer view cone I was really sad but now that they improved it my faith is restored. Super excited about all the weapons crafting stuff. Coming from 7 days to dies im so nervous about changes. Thank you for the PREMIUM content!
I have never been SO excited over a CAR RAMP befor
Just showed my wife some of the updates since were waiting for 42 to start playing again, shes excited 😊
That's awesome! Planning to play co-op when the build drops?
@MrAtomicDuck yessir, my wife and I are gonna build a little home stead, stockpile guns and ammo and clear Louisville hehe or more likely she's gonna freeze and I'm going to clear if her first helicopter event is any indicator 🤣
Let's hope it doesn't get delayed or break the game on release
Imagine digging an emergency tunnel from your base to outside in a forest or whatever in case of a problem
And in multiplayer the possibilities are insane i think
Right on my 18th birthday! How nice!
Happy birthday!
Has there been any news on if the new map areas will be fleshed out when 42 drops?
looking forward to all the new forged weapons breaking after 4 hits as standard weapon qal.
I can't wait for 4k being better supported. The UI is rather difficult to read clearly in 4k right now, certainly is running on my TV anyway.
Increase your font size dude it increases UI size
Yeah, glad for all you folks on larger screens!
As someone who is looking to enter the gaming industry as a game designer, I am so so so pleased to hear that there are companies who brag about their non-crunch environment. It shows in the game just how much the developers love working on it and playing around with its systems. I wanna work for a company like that when I’m done my program.
I really wish we had visuals for alarms etc. I have bad hearing, and it's really difficult to play because I don't always notice if a house alarm triggers, or if some zombies are banging on doors etc. Would be nice with some lines and "cartoon" kind of sound indicators.
That could be a very nice accessibility feature to see. I'll relay this one to the dev team :)
@@MrAtomicDuckwow, thanks!
they really are trying to have the longest early access game in history forever
They've made it pretty clear in the past that they just see the "Early Access" tag on Steam as a symbol the game is still being worked on, which to be fair, a lot of other games do too. Early Access has sort of lost its meaning over the years.
I fully support it
I'm super excited for basements and multi levels
Really want to start a new world once this update hits
Can't wait for the abandoned subway station base mods
Even better that Lemmy had confirmed on reddit that the update releases early this year
Yep! That was in the video :D
Excited to see what they do with the lighting. I’ve always wanted to survive and build my own base from the ground up. Or even tear down whole houses for supplies. But the lighting has always been an issues. Can’t make your own light switches and what not. Plus when tearing down buildings the light sources stay. Even after the whole building is gone.
Nice! At this rate my grand-grand-grand-children might maybe have a chance at playing a semi-stable release version...
What many may be looking for would be a fix to the visibility of stairs. The need to know whats on the above level and how dangerous it is to be unable to see until you're finally on the upper level is a must. And ofcourse, i will keep saying that the voice acting and revamped craft system is a huge plus.
Until they add this, there is a mod called Stairs Alert which has your character say how many zombies are in their visions cone on the floor above you if you press E while on stairs.
Hopefully it will still work when build 42 drops.
@@DBZHGWgamer I saw it, but it's very unreliable sadly. It's a good temporary option while we get a adecuate fix to this issue.
Hello Mr Duck!
Hello!
I am a huge sucker for the ability to drive up ramps. I remember spending hours trying to get my car up onto a second story. I'm not sure if I can even wait
oh my goodness oh my god
This awesome news
I do understand why its taking too long i mean nobody asked for an engine upgrade, but damn do we need it and is it welcomed with opened arms.
Looking forward to playing again in 5 months.
Finally, some quality of life with ramps
I was starting to think that B42 was relating to the year of release...
Im so ready for b42!!!
These videos are always great, thanks MrAtomicDuck!
Is 32 up AND 32 down confirmed? As in, a 64 floor building. I feel like I've heard it as 32 total floors and they can be split between what is below ground and what is above ground floor.
I love your videos as a noob project zomboid player. After watching some videos of yours i decided to subscribe to you❤
Thank you so much!
I cant wait to make a basement gunshop in b42
The main things im excited for is many years later challenge and the all forest wild map
If the beta came out in Feb that would be a great birthday gift
Any sign of roofs fix? I'm looking forward to the day I can walk over them safely.
railroad spike through a bat might make a good pickaxe
I'd love it if the view cone would grey out areas you can't see
Vehicle animations PLEASE. Not knowing if your door or bonnet is open is silly.
Agreed. Fingers crossed.
I can't wait the game is awesome now and with the updates coming it will be even better, and then once the modders get their hands on it i doubt ill be going out for a while
Wide range, but one I am satisfied with. We've waited this long; what's another few months? I just want to know what I have to work with for creating mods and what areas they will even be needed. Considering the game has so many mods integrated now and the vanilla game (for B42) will be to a different level, who knows what will even require balancing by the modder.
build 42 is going to be a good update and 2024 is going to be a good year for project zomboid fans and developers.
Build 42 is exciting
Only two more years for the build YES!
If they add hills and stuff with the ramps they showed we BETTER be able to sled in winter.
I hope they put in medievil armour. There's could be a horde of medievil reinactors that are fully plated and near impossible to kill.
I'm super excited for everything, but short term I'm especially excited for the lighting and performance improvements. Even if it's just a 50% improvement, that would still be (at the lowest) 25 more FPS overall for me, which would leave me at 60 at all times. Anything else is bonus. Light propagation is just awesome though. It makes the game look incredibly realistic.
Still not sold on the new view cone though. I feel like its shadow should be darker so it's better at a glance, but it might work well with all things together.
The rest is all amazing however.
If I recall correctly, they mentioned in one of the Thursdoids that there will be an option to change the view cone's visibility
Lighting is such an underrated part of ambience, so I agree, it's a massive feature and I'm super looking forward to that. The view-cone can indeed be customized, which was mentioned in this video, so we should be able to tweak it to whatever we feel is best :)
I just want to be able to use the 100 bags of concrete powder I've collected. I'm trying to build a gun range and it's pretty tough without concrete.
I hope they will fix the fps drop bug not like other games when the say the will but dont
Looking forward to see build 42 being played by my grandchildren in 2064
I'm curious whats gonna happen to Raven Creek, it's probably my favourite map mod but while I enjoy the update I'm still wondering what will happen. It'd be a shame if it got bugged out due to it. I know it was said it won't invalidate it but I have my doubts.
I wonder if these sublevels go across the entire map. Or are these sublevels their own little "worlds"?
I could see these very deep sublevels being used in some military base, perhaps a military base where the infection started. I wonder how large these sublevels can be if they have a size limit, or if, for example, you could have an underground highway that goes across the entire map.
Imagine a secret underground subway connecting military bases and a secret gigantic military base that can only be accessed through this network with no above ground entrances. I wonder if something like that would be possible.
I can't wait for someone to recreate The Hive from Resident Evil
The update will help modders on a metro 2033 pz gameplay, I hope
Given all the unneeded copper around post-apocalypse, is there enough tin around to make bronze? Casting is easier than forging, after all...
March or April seems like when it would be put into beta
