    How interesting cut of memorable moments of Netherlands history. And how pleasent view to see a monarch (or ex-monarch) singing the national anthem with his or her people. Even without the proper coronation is the inauguration ceremony (I would call it an Inthronisation) very moving and respectable. Lang leve de koning Willem-Alexander! Lang leve de prinses Beatrix!

  • @SlothyGal
    @SlothyGal Год назад +90

    A quick note to add is that the ceremony did not change anthem wise. The only reason there's an organ in the primary role of playing the music is because that was the kings specific request. He hates trumpets with a passion it seems. But i expect the current heir to the throne to ascend with blaring trumpets, as it should be. Long live the king

    An observation:
    I've noticed that the "speed" of singing the song has changed (increased) as time went by. See how slow it sounds in the inauguration of Queen Juliana and how fast it sounds in the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander.
    Is that a sign of the world becoming more modern and fast paced? Is that why old people often complain about the speed of the world nowadays... because they're not used to it? Is this video a testament to this rapid acceleration in everything in the world? Are we, humanity as a whole, losing the patience we previously had?
    Maybe yes, but one thing is certain. The pride, devotion, loyalty and love with which the song has always been sung has been the same all along. There is still some time before the rate at which the world is changing has an effect on our overall mindset. It takes time to change the mindset of people. Which means that it also takes time to change it to what it was earlier. Maybe we haven't derailed too far. Maybe we can come back before it's too late. But becoming fast isn't inherently bad though. It just shows the impatience growing among humanity. It's major disadvantage isn't singing songs quickly; it is something much bigger. We all know that patience is a virtue, which we are losing day by day.
    As for the song, as long as the passion with which it is sung remains, the speed doesn't really matter.

      Yeah that's just me overthinking

    • @markvdakker99
      @markvdakker99 Год назад +2

      Well it goes a bit far to say that the speed increase is due to a rapid acceleration of the modern world. In fact, when this song (when it wasn't an anthem) was written (somewhere around the 15th century) the song was sung very different. It had a lot more speed and the rhythm was also very different. I think the slower previous versions of the anthem are more a matter of music taste during that time. Furthermore, in the twenty first century there was much more interest in the original versions of old music (take Bach music for example, nowadays you won't see a choir of over 100 people sing his music, but merely a 20 people or so, as it originally was). I think that contributes to the much faster tempo of 2013.

      Let me destroy the fairytale that this part of our anthem has anything to do with love for Spain, That it not ment to be kind sentence to the king of Spain and I would be proud of it as I was Spanish. The Netherlands was under domination of Spain and it was a big shame to betrayal the leader of your country in that time. The sentence actually ment to say; I want to kick out the king of Spain and dont see him as my king, but I can not say that, because it is betrayal. A few years after this song we finally managed to beat Spain out of our country.
      The sentence has nothing, but really nothing to do with love or compassion for Spain.

    Why do monarchs abdicate so often in Holland? In Britain it is taboo, why is it not the same over there? If the duties of the monarch become too arduous, then the Crown Prince should simply be given some of those duties.

    Today the song feels very distant at times because of the verse with "DUITSE BLOED" this is because today this would mean germand/deutsch blood, however its meant as Dutsch speaking, nederlands sprekende, this causes distancing from my current and younger generations

    • @LolLol-vk4rg
      @LolLol-vk4rg 6 месяцев назад

      If the younger generation paid even the slightest amount of attention they know that Duits in this context is a synonym for 'Diets' which is what the general people of this area have been called for ages. Thats why you see nationalist parties like PVV or Vlaams Belang advertising for a 'Groot-Nederland' or 'Dietsland'.

Misschien ook interessant is hoe prins Bernard naderhand geld heeft genomen van de wiedergutmachung om zichzelf te compenseren, want, zo was hij van mening, de Duitsers waren hem geld schuldig.
