Edward's logic for getting Al's body back is this: It is impossible to revive dead with alchemy. This was confirmed by re-examining the body of the creature the boys first transmuted, which they had intended to be their mother but upon closer examination turned out to have been simply an unrelated soulless corpse (like a basic template human body) all along. This, plus corroborating with Izumi's owned failed attempt and Alphonse's soul briefly inhabiting the template body, proved to Ed that human transmutation to revive the dead is simply impossible; you cannot return a soul once it has died. After the boys transmutation to revive their mother failed and Alphonse dissapeared, Edward made a last ditch effort to return his brother in exchange for his arm, which allowed Edward to bind Al's soul to a suit of armor. Because Al's soul still exists and is confirmed to actually be his original soul, added togethor with the confirmation that the dead cannot come back to life, must mean Alphonse is still alive in some capacity. His body was taken by Truth to the other side of the portal, and because Alphonse is still alive that means they should still be able to get his body back from the portal if they can exchange for it with something of equal value.

Yes we know Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham are married and their characters are murdering each other, but did you know that Travis still can't watch the scene because he can't bear to hear his wife even acting screams of pain? That's love there Mustang's gloves and the origin of Hawkeye's dog, Black Hayate, were covered in the 2003 series, in fact the same episode, but it was skipped mainly to avoid repetition for returning audiences. In short; Mustang's gloves are made of a special material that makes a spark and the sigil then manipulates the fire, Black Hayate was a stray Fuery (glasses guy) found and tried to find a home because his dormitory didn't allow pets, eventually Hawkeye took him in with the other squad members having similar reasons against or were deemed unfit by Fuery to be a pet owner, sadly at the same time Alphonse couldn't find a home for a stray cat - which has been casually mentioned as being a habit in the show.

The broad shoulders comment from Winry isn't so much about her recognizing her feelings for Edward and his growth but also Edward having a burden of responsability being lifted from his shoulders, and finding a new determination, a new "drive" in his ambition to bring Al back. Ed has been crippled by nightmares about the horrible things he thought he did to his mother, Hohenheim freed his sons from the guilt of having harmed their mother, because they never did to begin with. He's the one who helped them, and it is really interesting how the show does it: despite being absent, Hohenheim knows his sons, what torments them, and he chose to be there and act to help. Now ofc you can say he should've been there x years ago when Trisha died, sure, but he's also I feel, like atoning for not having been there for his sons.
In the manga, there was another fight going on while Roy and the others were fighting Lust. It was most likely cut from the anime for the sake of pacing, but I really wish it had been left in. So, to summarize what went down. When Gluttony attacked Hawkeye, Envy was nearby spying on things; but got ambushed by Lan Fan. Envy tried to slip away and blend into the crowd, but Lan Fan easily found him (due her being able to sense all the souls in his Philosopher Stone) and kept attacking. Shortly after Gluttony was blown out of the window (comedically landing on Envy), Ling arrived and joined the fight; hoping to capture Envy and Gluttony, after witnessing their regenerative power. Lan Fan and Ling managed to beat the two of them down so badly that Envy ordered Gluttony to eat everything, and also prepared to change into his true form. They were stopped, however, when Pride (off panel) ordered them to back down; while also berating them for losing so badly, making a public spectacle in the skirmish, and for allowing Mustang and the others to find their lair. Envy and Gluttony retreated, and Ling and Lan Fan decided not to pursue them; realizing just how dangerous the situation had become.
