Man that looked freezing, but at least no wind. Loved the look at the start, the mist just looks cool. Always better to be safe than sorry and some nice catches to finish off your open water season.

That’s awesome you are still able to get the yak out Sean!! Great safety tips! 3 1/2 hours to get that 1st fish😳 way to stick it out. Nice one then u thought too. I went out on river myself yesterday and got the skunk. What made it worse was 35mph wind gust ☹️ Great to see you get on two more at the end of your day. Good stuff brother 👊

Well done! Glad you got out - I'm sure this blast of winter will shut things down and expedite the ice. We got a ton of cold and snow here in the Edmonton area over the last few days. 3 fish was a great session! Congrats on a great season in the yak!

Gotta love it when you can still get the yak out this late in the year! Even with the slow day on the water you still managed to land some nice ones. Great weather to do it. Looks like ice is right around the corner.

Good saftey points. I have been criticized myself for going out on Lake Superior in the Kayak without a dry suit. My points are pretty much same as yours. I watch the hourly forecast and will go based on last minute decision. I've been using a canoe/kayak for 30 years and never flipped, also my kayak is crazy stable. I try to stay within a couple hundred meters from shore.
Good video, you got a nice one. I had to go on facebook and go way back in history to find my latest open water fish. I caught one from shore December 1, 2016! 26.5" pike

Your precautions are pretty good but I would suggest having something to start an emergency shore fire, dry clothes are good but if you hit that water you got 3 minutes to get out, get dry and get a fire going. You WILL need some kind of heat source to warm up even with dry clothes on. you will be shivering badly, your hands will be numb and it will be difficult to think.
I suggest a butane lighter or preferably a torch with a couple rolls of hexamine tablets in a ziplock or water proof bag. a lighter that is easy to use and reliable is ideal as your hands will be totally numb from the water
Every survival course I've taken makes an emphasis on immediately starting a fire, stripping of the wet clothes and getting warm once out of the water.
of course a dry suit would be ideal or one of the newer water proof floating ski doo suits
nice fish for so late in the year

Thanks, great suggestion. I actually now have one of the floating ice fishing suits so I am set going forward!
