MCA (Adam Rauch, may he Reast in Peace) was easily the real leader of the band. He's argueably one of the best white rappers who ever lived - and probably wouldv'e done well had he gone solo - but he never wanted all the limelight on himself. Most band leaders almost always like to be in the center of their band during photo ops - MCA rarely did during random pictures of the trio - but especially never did on any of their album covers. He was a true, but quiet, team leader that never acted like one and for that I have so much more respect for the man than I already did. Love you MCA; you, Ad-Rock, and Mike D were a gift to the world and I'm happy to have lived during the era of the 80's, 90's, and some of the 2000's with you guys - great memories.

I don't think anyone has ever used award acceptance speech time so properly, or gotten as much value out of it as he did. The world needs more people like him. Respect.

i only just recently started to actually look more into their music but i grew up with listening to the beastie boys, between guitar hero and my mom loving them. i vaguely remember hearing one of the boys passed, but i was 11 and wasn’t as into music as i grew to be. now actually looking into the guys and each of them, i’ve come to love them. and i’ve come to really respect and relate to MCA. watching these videos and interviews it’s made me see how i have the same humor as these guys old enough to be my dads. i feel connected so much now with these guys and their music. we truly lost such a humble, generous, kind, and amazing human being. cancer fucking sucks, who knows what these guys could’ve done more. at this day in age we could use some Yauch insight, rip MCA. you’ve officially climbed up to be another huge inspiration for me, it was a real pick me up to get me more motivated to do what i myself want to do and to speak up for myself and others
These guys were the first and for a long time the only white rappers that got all the respect from black rappers. Which is an astounding feat! They were not just good at their craft, they were innovative and always shared, inspired and animated others, regardless of gender, orientation, nationality or colour of skin. They are just wholesome and I call myself lucky that a friend of mine introduced me to their music back then when Licensed to Ill came out. I was about 10 back then.

The MTV awards speech at the end on how most Arabic people need love belonged in any video on him. He grew with humility and kindness...and would still laugh at it all.

Seems like only the good die young. Had a chance encounter with all 3 at a Thai restaurant in Chicago during the Lollapalooza tour. I noticed them at their table on my way to the loo and gave them a nod. Yauch nodded back.

Saw Sylvester Stallone at my work just checking out some sporting equipment, could've gone and asked him if he needed help with anything, but just nodded and he nodded back, seeing a smile on my face and aware that I knew that he was the man and appreciating that I didn't go bother him. They just want to be regular people sometimes.

that's true, the wars in Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Palestine (on behalf of Israel) were the biggest waste of time for the US, it resulted in trillions in debt, most of the people that died were civilians, the so called terrorists were never stopped they just reappeared every decade. The wars actually made Saudi Arabia even richer, and so forth. Although MCA was clearly not a political science major and his wording was very basic, he still managed to get a point across, he took a moment to be serious for once, applaud him for that.
Basic is best. The point of speech is to communicate. English is best when talk is basic.

Biggest waste of time from your perspective, sure. But war is business for the US. Way too many people profit from it which is why this will always continue like that. They don't really give a crap about what the war is actually about as long as they can continue to produce and use weapons. "Military-industrial complex" is a term as old as 1961 when Eisenhower warned of the relationship's detrimental effects. The US spend more money on the military than the next 6 countries COMBINED. When you have that many servicemen, tanks, fighter planes, warships etc. you need to justify them and put them to use. Which means they are actively seeking for wars or even create ones - if there wasn't war for a longer period, they would get less funds, people would lose their jobs and industries that fund politicians campaigns would go bankrupt, so ... the vicious circle will never stop. For the US, EVERYTHING is business. They'll never stop.
