A very royally classic reaction 👸🏾! I see 👁👁 that you have reacted to Anita Baker before: Giving You The Best That I Got, Sweet Love and Caught Up In The Rapture. You Bring Me Joy wasn't released as a single from Anita Baker's 1985 album: Rapture. The song was written by David Lasley. It was produced by Michael J Powell. It wasn't eligible for the music charts. No music video was produced for the song. The song was originally recorded in 1980 by Norman Connors featuring the vocals of Adaritha for his album: Take It To The Limit. Yes, she took it to chuuurrch ⛪! Lenny Kravitz, in his book: Let Love Rule, called the song: "You Bring Me Joy", by Anita Baker "one of the sweetest R&B ballads".
    Critical Reception 🗣:
Stephen Holden of The New York Times wrote "In the verses of David Lasley's beautiful pop-gospel ballad 'You Bring Me Joy,' Miss Baker's voice looped from phrase to phrase in the manner of Sarah Vaughan. Then, for the song's climactic declarations, she became a pure gospel singer, testifying with a stirring fervor and directness".
Jeff Tamarkin of Billboard describes Baker's performance of "the devastating David Lasley-written 'You Bring Me Joy' to kick the show into high gear and create the charged mood that was sustained throughout".
Of the Sunday night Irvine Meadows show of singer Anita Baker, Steve Eddy wrote of the songs "The most notable Sunday evening was 'You Bring Me Joy' a David Lasley tune that has a pleasing Gospel tinge".
    Anita Baker Info 📰:
Anita Baker was born on January 26, 1958 in Toledo, Ohio. She is a singer and songwriter. Anita Baker is a contralto with a range of nearly three octaves. She is known for her Soulful ballads, particularly from the height of the quiet storm period in the 1980s. She was influenced by Ella Fitzgerald, Mahalia Jackson and Sarah Vaughn. She has released six studio albums, one compilation album, one live album, and twenty-four singles. Referred as the "Queen Of Romantic Quiet-Storm R&B/Soul", she is considered to be one of the top R&B artists of the 1980s. According to RIAA she has sold 13 million certified albums in the US, including three multi-Platinum albums, a Platinum album and a Gold album. She has also scored 5 number-one hits on the R&B Airplay chart and 13 top ten hits on the R&B chart.
When Anita Baker was two years old, her mother abandoned her and Anita Baker was raised by a foster family in Detroit, Michigan. When Anita Baker was 12 years old, her foster parents passed away and her foster sister raised her afterwards. By the time Anita Baker was 16, she began singing R&B at Detroit nightclubs. After one performance, she was discovered by bandleader David Washington, who gave her a card to audition for the Funk band called Chapter 8.
Anita Baker joined Chapter 8 in 1975 and the group toured until securing a deal with Ariola Records in 1979. The group's first album: Chapter 8, was released that year and featured the single: "Ready For Your Love", a duet between Anita Baker and bandmate Gerald Lyles, and the Anita Baker-led single: "I Just Want To Be Your Girl." After Ariola Records was bought out by Arista Records in 1979, Chapter 8 was dropped by the record label who were convinced that Anita Baker, as the group's lead singer, didn't have "star potential". Anita Baker returned to Detroit, working as a waitress and a receptionist until, in 1982, Otis Smith, a former associate of Ariola Records, convinced Anita Baker to start a solo career under his Beverly Glen Records record label.
Anita Baker released her first solo album: The Songstress, in 1983. The album produced four singles: "No More Tears" and its B-side, "Will You Be Mine", "Angel" and "You're The Best Thing Yet". The song: "Angel", became Anita Baker's first top ten single, reaching #5 on the R&B chart in late 1983. Her song: "You're The Best Thing Yet", reached #28 on the R&B chart.
Despite this early success, Anita Baker later complained that she hadn't received any royalties from the album. In addition, the record label delayed work on her follow-up album. By 1984, after two years, Anita Baker sought to leave the record label but was sued by Otis Smith for breach of contract in 1985. After months in court debating the matter, it was ruled that Anita Baker should be allowed to record for other record labels, winning the case against Beverly Glen Records record label owner Otis Smith. Anita Baker then signed with the Warner Music Group-associated Elektra Records label in 1985 and began working on her next album. Her Elektra contract allowed the singer to have creative control and produce her own music.
In 1986, she rose to fame following the release of her Platinum-selling second album: Rapture, which included the Grammy-winning single: "Sweet Love". While sales were initially slow following the release of the album's debut single: "Watch Your Step", Elektra Records released the mid-tempo ballad, "Sweet Love" (#2 R&B, #3 Adult Contemporary, #8 Pop), which became her first Pop hit. The album eventually released three more hit singles: "Caught Up In The Rapture" (#6 R&B, #9 Adult Contemporary, #37 Pop), "No One In The World" (#5 R&B, #9 Adult Contemporary, #44 Pop) and "Same Ole Love 365 Days A Year(#6 Adult Contemporary, #8 R&B, #44 Pop)".
Throughout 1986 and 1987, Anita Baker promoted the album by touring, headlining her first tour: The Rapture Tour, from which was later released on home video as A Night Of Rapture. By 1988, the album had sold over 8 million copies worldwide, 5 million of which were sold in the US alone. The album resulted in Anita Baker winning two Grammy Awards at the 1987 ceremony for Best R&B Vocal Performance Female ("Rapture") and Best Rhythm & Blues Song ("Sweet Love").
In 1987, Anita Baker collaborated with The Winans on their song: "Ain't No Need To Worry", which earned Anita Baker her third Grammy Award in 1988, this time in the Best Soul Gospel Performance by a Duo or Group, Choir or Chorus category.
In 1988, she released her album: Giving You The Best That I Got, and immediately gained success, topping the Billboard 200 and selling 5 million copies worldwide, 3 million of which sold alone in the United States. The album's title track: "Giving You The Best That I Got", reached #1 on the R&B and Adult Contemporary charts as well as #3 on the Hot 100, becoming her most successful charted single. The follow-up single: "Just Because", reached #1 on the R&B chart, #4 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #14 on the Hot 100. While the third single: "Lead Me Into Love", peaked at #4 on the R&B chart and #32 on the Adult Contemporary chart. The album resulted in three more Grammy Awards for the singer: Best R&B Vocal Performance Female ("Giving You The Best That I Got"), Best Rhythm & Blues Song ("Giving You The Best That I Got") and Best R&B Vocal Performance Female for the album: Giving You The Best That I Got.
Anita Baker would go on to release two more albums in the 1990s: Compositions (1990) and Rhythm Of Love (1994) winning two more Grammy Awards: Best R&B Vocal Performance Female for her album: Composition and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance ("I Apologize" 1996).
After taking a break from the music industry to care for her two sons she returned in the 200s with the albums: My Everything (2004) and Christmas Fantasy (2005).
Anita Baker had been working on a new album featuring the single: "Only Forever", since 2010. In August 2012, Anita Baker released her version of Tyrese's 1990s hit song: "Lately". The song made headlines for Anita Baker after the song was played every hour, on the hour, throughout the day on urban adult contemporary radio, making her the first artist to make this kind of debut. Though Blue Note Records set release dates for the album in October and December of 2012, Anita Baker decided she still needed to work on the album, causing delays. In February 2013, she returned to the national spotlight, performing the songs: "Lately" and "Same Ole Love(365 Days A Year)," on the ABC television series: Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The album was never released.
In January 2017, Anita Baker confirmed she had retired however she emerged from retirement in 2018 with her tour: Anita Baker: Farewell Concert Series (2018-19).
In 2023, Anita Baker completed her concert series: The Songstress Tour.
Anita Baker currently lives in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan and still performs her music live on stage in 2024.

That track doesn't have a music video, because it wasn't an official single. It was on the 'B' side. But urban radio played it back then and fans liked it as if it was a released single.
